Detroit's John 5 Talks Joining Motley Crue And Taking Chances

Great to catch up with John 5.  We talked about first concerts. John's first show was a massive show at a Michigan venue that's no longer around.  5 told me about a documentary he's been working on for some time now. He said it's coming out soon, and he's fired up about it. He said he thought they decided to wait on releasing it after he joined Motley Crue. "I took a chance and rolled the dice" is how he described his path to where is has gone, and where he is today.  "It was very difficult, of course" he said when asked about his leaving Rob Zombie's band. Again, he took a chance. "I was very nervous about talking to my friend (Zombie) about it"  As far as Motley goes, it's a dream come true for 5. "It was magical!" is how he described playing with the band for the first time. He spoke to how he studied the band and how well prepared he was to join them. He said the first show was unreal. What did he do for the second show? He had childhood heroes Ace Frehley and Peter Criss from KISS come to the show. As we were speaking, he thought out loud about playing warmup shows. Maybe it was because of him?? As for playing and hanging with the band, he told me about that experience, and it's crazy. He told me about the Motley "flu" that went around the band.  What about something that he didn't really know about the band, but has come to learn since joining? "Everything is very serious." He said from meet and greets, to making the show the best it can be, they are all in. "They're just wonderful, wonderful people. They really are. They care a lot, that's for sure." New music from the band? "We have songs recorded. I don't know when it's going to come out." He cannot wait for them to see the light of day. He said there's a few songs finished. Plus, he got to work with the legendary producer, Bob Rock.  He'll be going from the massive stage, to small clubs on his solo tour coming up. "I get so excited to play these shows." You can see him at the world famous Machine Shop on February 9th. A few tickets remain.  He also talks about a new song called "the Ghost", which drops on Halloween.

Motley Crue followed the platinum success of their debut record Too Fast For Love with 1983's Shout At The Devil. With a provocative title and a cover featuring a pentagram, The Crue were courting controversy in an attempt to gain fame and grow their teenage fanbase. Never known for their musicianship or lyric writing prowess, their sophomore effort helped define a sleazy LA sound that may have eventually been perfected by Guns N Roses. Thanks to their outrageous looks, stage show and attitudes, Motley were able to get airtime on MTV, opening act slots with bands like KISS and Ozzy Oxbourne and get invited to play big festivals. Looks That Kill became a hit on the radio and it helped buoy the album to over 5 million in sales worldwide. But does it stand the test of time? Hearing the album as a teenager in the 80s is a different experience than hearing it 40 years later and between the simple song structures, the purile yet x-rated lyrics and overall lack of prowess with their instruments, sonically this might not be a classic for the ages. However, thanks to the imagery, the attitude and pure punch of the Mick Mars riffs and Tommy Lee's drumming, this will always hold a place in the hard rock pantheon of albums and is what helped propel Motley Crue to the worldwide success they still enjoy today. RIP Sinead O'Connor, Hunter Biden's plea deal falls apart, Kevin Spacey's win streak, Unabomber was an OG incel, Ice Cube v. Covid vaccine, Cam Newton wants his Bentley back, a new Bonerline, and Livvy Dunne is too hot for school. No show tomorrow due to Shohei Ohtani being in town. Drew has a hot date. Motley Crue's tour fades away. RIP Sinéad O'Connor. We'll always remember her on The Sinatra Group. Kevin Spacey wins in court again. Elton John helped him out in his defense. Stuttering John Melendez is an awful "comedian". Megan Rapinoe hates Dave Chappelle. Politics: Hunter Biden's plea deal falls apart on him. The Biden dog story is wasting space in the news cycle. Mitch McConnell froze up and shut down during a presser. Malik Obama declares his brother, Barack, homosexual. Rudy Giuliani is a LIAR. Joe Biden "ended cancer as we know it". A California bill could make it illegal to try and stop shoplifters. Check out the fattest thieves possibly ever. Mick Jagger turns 80 years old. He threw himself a birthday party. Ice Cube is not a fan of the COVID-19 vaccine. Jack White hates Elon Musk so much that he's auctioning off his Tesla to help Clark Park. Olivia Dunne is too hot to go to class at college. Project Unabom is a new podcast about the Unabomber where we learn that not only was he a murderer, but he was a terrible son and an incel. Some chicks in Colorado decided to live off the grid and were killed by mother nature. Brandon has his list of 'The Top 15 Movies Rolling Stone Magazine Kept Out of Their Top 70 List'. The Top Rockstar Cameos in Film. Gisele Bündchen is FURIOUS that Tom Brady is getting new booty while she's "hanging out" with the jiu-jitsu instructor. Cam Newton really wants his Bentley back. Some chick with huge tubes tossed her bra at Drake and is reaping the rewards from it. Glastonbury highlights, DTE power outages, more Titanic submarine fallout, Mick Mars v. Motley Crue, Cardi B v. Offset, 90 Day Fiancé Gino tries to grow a spine, and Tom Mazawey got stoned. We were right. Not-a-Prince Harry and that beast Meghan Markle are NOT good at producing content. Jeremy Zimmer declares her talentless. Taylor Swift once again made the right choice. The Titanic tourist kid just wanted to beat the world record for solving a Rubik's Cube near the ship wreckage. Bud Light is trying to woo the "frat boy crowd" back with a spot full of dumb white people. They're bringing back that Knight character too. We check in on Gino from Canton in his adventures on 90 Day Fiancé. Glastonbury was full of a lot of great performances. Look at those crowds! The BET Awards also aired and featured Drew's favorite hip hop song of all time. Patti LaBelle forgets Tina Turner lyrics. Porscha Coleman spills the beans on Jamie Foxx... except she doesn't. Katie Holmes is worried sick, but no one is answering her phone calls. Jon Hamm married a striking young lady. Mick Mars is still very angry with "Da Motley Crue". Julian Sands... gone too soon. Michael Jackson... gone too soon. Red Table Talk... gone too soon. Paris Jackson performed in front of tens of people at Bonnaroo. DJ Diesel (Shaq) performed at Electric Forest in Rothbury. Tom Mazawey got stoned live on Woodward Sports for the very first time in his life. Michael Jackson fired somebody while performing on stage. We experienced a "once in a generation storm" again. Don't stick your hands in shark infested waters unless you want to make us laugh. It's Detroit Fireworks day, baby! Troy Smith (the artist, not the Heisman Trophy winner) sent us some badass prints of his DMP artwork. Tickets are going fast for the WATP live show. We're still reeling from John Bobbitt talking about "baby gravy" on our program yesterday. Sextortion schemes are hitting 66% of teens. SC State Rep, Brandon Guffey, lost his son to suicide following the scams. Documentaries: The Hillsong doc taught us that Carl Lentz and his tendrils thought they were so hot. Drew recommends the Out of Time: The Material Issue Story rock doc. A new Rock Hudson documentary is on it's way to Max. Cardi B vs her husband, Offset. Bam Margera left rehab early. Be on the lookout for him. Karl will join us tomorrow. Super producer Bob Rock is from Winnipeg, and has also worked with some of the biggest bands in music like Metallica, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, and Canada's favorite sons, The Tragically Hip! Bob does a deep dive into the writing and recording process for Metallica's “Black” album, and the controversial “St Anger.” He shares the one lyric suggestion he gave James Hetfield, the changes he helped the band make to the bass and drum sound, how he got James Hetfield to actually sing in the studio, and the biggest differences between the process of the “Black” album versus “St. Anger.” He also recounts his time with Motely Crue from their first meeting to their recent studio work with new guitarist John 5. He's got great stories about David Lee Roth and Cher, and even more about The Tragically Hip and late singer, Gord Downie. Bob explains how he and Gord came to collaborate on the new (and truly amazing) “Lustre Parfait” album (which was just released this month), and why it took so long to finish and release.  Thank you for supporting our sponsors!Gametime – Download the Gametime app, create an account, and use the promo code TIJ to get $20 off.Factor – visit https://factormeals.com/TIJ40 and use code TIJ40 to get 40% off your first boxeBay Motors: get the right parts, the right fit, and the right prices. https://ebaymotors.comMetro By T-Mobile: Switch and get unlimited 5G starting at $25 a month per line for 4 lines, and a FREE 5G phone.Toyota: Visit https://toyota.com/GRFamily to find your perfect Toyota!Bosch Tools: learn more at https://www.boschtools.com/us/en/SlingTV: check out https://www.sling.com/ for special offers  STAY CONNECTED:TikTok: @TalkIsJericho Instagram: @talkisjericho @chrisjerichofozzy Twitter: @TalkIsJericho @IAmJerichoYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisJerichoFozzyWebsite: https://www.webisjericho.com/
