Today we'll meet Sheila Murphy. Sheila always wanted to be a lawyer. As Sheila approached her college years, she elected to attend Binghamton University. She completed her coursework early there, so she worked for a year before starting at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. After earning her JD, she was ready to meet her early vocational goal. She was now an attorney. Sheila went to work for the firm of Thacher, Proffitt and Wood, and with much consternation, became a litigator for them. She had a fear of public speaking and was certain she didn't belong in the position, but she decided she had to give it a shot. To her surprise and relief, she became increasingly better at the work as time went on. Her successes gave her a new confidence and maturity, and she enjoyed her career at the firm until it was time for a change when she and her husband began their family. Thus, Sheila's first professional pivot came after the birth of her child. Though she loved her work, she found herself looking for another position that might be more accommodating to her family needs. She had established a sizable professional network, and she began searching out leads for an opportunity to take her career in the new direction she wanted. She found that opportunity at MetLife. There she worked again in litigation along with business advising and some oversight of regulatory attorneys. Her years there were both happy and fruitful as she once more gained great experience and learned from the work she did. It was during these years that Sheila had a realization and epiphany that made a huge difference to her career. Listen as she recounts to Amy what occurred and how that event caused her to assert herself in her work and thus move forward professionally. She spent many happy years there, but she began thinking about what she should do next. As she thought over her idea of a bold move, she began what she calls an “interview tour”. She networked with knowledgeable individuals to gain clarity and insight into her possibilities. She did a verbal needs assessment to see where her skills might best serve. Then she pondered the “what ifs”. “What if I decide to do this? How would I go about it?” She refined her list of possibilities and made the decision that she wanted to continue to work with other attorneys. She tested her business concepts on many of them and they gave her great feedback. Eventually she was ready to resign from MetLife and become her own boss with her own business. Her business now focuses on working with two groups. The first group is comprised of women attempting to gain control over their careers. She helps them find their way to the next level and/or develop their own book of business. The second group is made up of business professionals who are not lawyers. They gain guidance on climbing their own career ladders and navigating the corporate climate. In her new role as a career coach, consultant and advisor, she is helping professionals shortcut those hurdles she maneuvered. She works to help her clients find their own path to forging the careers that they deserve. Though her life remains full of challenges, she says her happiness is now “through the roof”. Explore Enlighten Evolve - Celebrating 2018 Join Sheila as she celebrates a year of podcasting in 2018 with her producer Tim Edwards of The InBound Podcasting Network, the one and only Lisa May of 95.5 KLOS and Kala Maxym of 5 Senses Tastings. Kala created and presents a very special music and tasting story based on the Sound Mind & Body mantra – Explore Enlighten Evolve. Listen to the extraordinary music and tasting that Kala procured as Sheila, Tim, Lisa and Kala reflect on the year and discuss the different ways they have explored, been enlightened and evolved. EXPLORE: To seek out new experiences, information, and education with an open mind. To get outside your comfort zone and try out new territories of mind, body and soul. As Sheila says, “When I think of exploring I think of that feeling of excitement, and being a little scared when I’m trying something new. That’s what I call those woo-woo moments.” ENLIGHTEN: Through experiencing and learning, your mind, body and spirit are enlightened. You discover new thoughts and feelings, new ideas and attitudes, and new places for you to shine. The result of being enlightened is that you evolve. EVOLVE: Sheila believes this is a life purpose to do her part to evolve in this lifetime, which in turn will help the entire human race evolve. In order to evolve we must be open to explore and experience new things, new thoughts and new habits. Through that we are enlightened and see our world differently. We explored so many different topics during 2018 with all of our wonderful guests, what were some that resonated with you? The episode ends with a wonderful rendition of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” narrated by Sheila’s dad, Mike Melody aka Grampa Melody. Happy Holidays to All! Sheila Lamb battled infertility for six years before her dream of becoming a mother came true at 47. Before writing her first book ‘My Fertility Book – all the fertility and infertility explanations you will ever ned, from A to Z,’ Sheila founded an online fertility magazine called My Fertility Specialist – a quarterly magazine featuring articles from global fertility experts, latest news, book reviews, true stories and much more. It was while researching for material the magazine articles, that Sheila realized there was a huge amount of information that people needed to know, and also how difficult it must be for people to find jargon-free, easy to understand information online – she had qualified as a nurse and midwife years ago and even she often struggled to understand numerous fertility terms. The idea of writing a book of medical and non-medical fertility and infertility terms in a jargon-free language was born. Many of the terms are accompanied by simple but artistic illustrations. As Sheila understands what you are going through, she also tells her own personal experiences of egg collection/retrieval, miscarriage, the two-week wait and more. This comprehensive, useful guide will not only assist people who are personally battling infertility, but is also a fantastic resource for people who are planning a family in the future and, if you work with people or support people who are trying to get pregnant. Accompanying this book is a free resource ‘The Best Fertility Jargon Buster; the most concise A-Z list of fertility abbreviations and acronyms you will ever need’. Part 2 of Sheila’s update with a few of our past guests who she connected with at the MindBody BOLD conference in San Diego a couple weeks ago – and in this episode we talk to Sadie Nardini and Cory Sterling. As Sheila mentioned in the last episode, MindBody is one of her favorite “conscious companies” in the world! Sheila uses their software to manage her strength-training studio (www.informfitnessla.com), and for the past 3 years she has attended their BOLD Conference -- and each year it gets better. Last year we were introduced to Sadie Nardini – she was doing a talk about making $6 figures while you sleep. That sounded pretty good to us, so we went to her seminar. We had no idea who Sadie was – and we were delighted to see this Fierce Rock Chick with a Mohawk up there talking about doing her own style of Yoga to “Guns n Roses” -- we were in! Not only was she an amazing teacher, she was so inspiring to help us find our own unique voice. After her one hour of time ended in the conference room, she told everyone to meet her at the pool bar and she continued to show us her social media tricks for at least another hour, while enjoying a glass of Pinot Grigio. What’s not to love! We had the chance to meet her again early this year at a BOLD event in Los Angeles and Sheila invited her to be on the podcast. She graciously said yes, and you can hear our first interview on Episode 26. This year at BOLD we connected again and had the chance to sit down at the same pool bar and talk about what she’s been up to. We also had the chance to catch up with Cory Sterling at BOLD. You might remember him from Episode 31 – he’s the Heart Leading Lawyer who calls his company Conscious Counsel. I actually told Cory about the MindBody BOLD conference – and sure enough, he showed up! He lives in Vancouver – that is, when he’s not traveling around the world! This was our first time meeting in person, and it was such a blast! Cory is an incredibly kind and intelligent person, who also happens to be a kick-ass attorney who leads with love. We ran into each other several times during the conference, and he was often barefoot – it’s so inspiring to see someone living and enjoying the present moment so fully, while also doing his work as an amazing attorney -- and it was great to sit down with him and find out what’s new with Conscious Counsel. http://sadienardini.com/ @sadienardinioffical www.counsciouscounsel.ca @consciouscounsel Check out our Sound Mind & Body YouTube Channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4EanYu-gJYsBydq-i4vz2Q Contact Sheila with what's the most Woo-Woo thing you've ever done to soundmindbodypodcast@gmail.com or visit www.soundmindbodypodcast.com Sound Mind & Body is brought to you in part by Audible. Truth of the Spirit with Patti Brunner welcomes Sheila Canup for the series on Prayer-Reaching Out to God. As Sheila teaches on Deliverance, Protection and Cleansing Prayer, she shares her “on the job training” deliverance experiences. Unless you know your authority in Christ and are sure of the Holy Spirit’s power working in you leave it alone! Because like the woman sweeping her house and had it all cleaned out of spirits, and did not fill it, seven more came back. But sometimes when we are praying for people deliverance prayer becomes necessary. When it does, we need to know what and how to minister in the area of healing and releasing. We have all had something that had to be taken out of us that we didn’t know was there. We’ve been affected by childhood traumas and just life in general by people we are around, by literally being unaware that spirits can come within us. Now, we are not talking about possession. We are talking about oppressed, being attacked by demonic forces as when prayer for inner healing seems to accomplish nothing—the “constant loser” script, falling back into the same thing over and over and over. The Gift of Discernment is really necessary with deliverance. Prayer for deliverance is directed towards the opposing demons, oppressing demons—not at you! Demons cannot stand against the authority or the name of Jesus. Philippians 2:10 “Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.” That means the demons have to, too. Pray for the protection of the Blood of Jesus.
For many of us, a disappointing experience with an unripe or tasteless pear has coloured our opinion of what was once thought of as a superior fruit: "gold to the apple's silver". Sheila Dillon travels to Kent to meet Dr Joan Morgan, who is just publishing 'The Book of Pears - The Definitive History and Guide to over 500 Varieties', the product of years of research into and fascination with this fruit and all its manifestations. Joan shows Sheila the pear orchard at the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale, one of the biggest fruit collections in the world, revealing the secrets of this unique collection - some 500 varieties of pear growing in one place. Domestic production is falling, imports are rising, and just one variety of pear, the conference, dominates the UK market. The once-prized varieties of cooking pear have been almost completely forgtten. Sheila invites cook and writer Nigel Slater to share his passion for what this fruit can do and how to look after it, and visits fruit farmer Clive Baxter who has invested in new technologies around storing and ripening. Dan Saladino tracks down the Gloucestershire-based distiller and cheesemaker Charles Martell, who has become enchanted by the intricacies and joys of the perry pear and the drinks it can make. As Sheila discovers, some people are working hard to restore a sense of enthusiasm around this ancient fruit, its flavours and its possibilities. Presenter: Sheila Dillon Producer: Rich Ward.
