Hopefully, for you, the holidays are a time for connections, happiness, and joy. However, they can also be a challenging time if your family, friends, or social gatherings trigger emotions stress, and anxiety around food and your body. It's okay to set boundaries with family members who don't support your intuitive eating journey and desire to undiet your life.Undieting is a process of letting go of food rules and rigid exercise routines. This process can trickle into other areas of your life like work, friendships, and intimate relationships - especially if they create extra stress around food and body image. How can you reclaim happiness and joy this holiday season and still practice intuitive eating? By setting a couple of boundaries (or more). It's okay to decline traditional holiday gatherings if trigger anxiety and stress. Find joy in making new traditions - maybe with different friends or family members.  It's also okay to search for holiday happiness and joy even in challenging, unhappy circumstances.  Let's dig into the definition of happiness and joy more deeply.  According to my guest on this week's episode of the Savor Food and Body Podcast, happiness is a binary construct. You're either happy or you're not. Joy, on the other hand, is an embodied experience. It's a physical sensation you feel in your body. In our conversation about happiness and joy you'll hear:Dr. Sethi describes the difference between Joy and happiness, and how she's experienced both in her life. Why the wellness world's definition of resilience isn't helpful in times of stress and what you can do instead. Why finding joy is critical for marginalized communities as a path tohealing from oppression. How does healing trauma and finding joy affect your genes and heal your ancestral body story?Dr. Sethi leaves you with a few tools described in her book that you can use to activate your vagus nerve of the nervous system and help cultivate Joy. Brad admits his limited knowledge about the topic, and Peter shares valuable insights. They talk about exercising during pregnancy, emphasizing the importance of getting marching orders from a doctor and understanding the reasons behind certain restrictions. Peter explains that women can continue most activities they were comfortable with before pregnancy in the first two trimesters. However, in the third trimester, they should avoid lying on their back, as it puts pressure on the vena cava and affects blood flow to the heart. Peter stresses the significance of blood flow during pregnancy and postpartum. Regarding prenatal exercise, Peter advises women to keep doing activities they enjoy but avoid raising their heart rate above 70% of maximum capacity. The goal is to have a smooth postpartum recovery, and Peter suggests doing core exercises, especially rotational and anti-rotational exercises, to maintain core strength. He also emphasizes the importance of resistance training during pregnancy to improve posture and prevent issues like back and neck pain. The conversation shifts to common postpartum issues, such as separation of stomach muscles and pelvic floor prolapse, which Peter says are natural after giving birth. He notes that many women are not adequately informed about these issues and the benefits of exercising during and after pregnancy. Peter believes that with the right exercise and proper guidance, most postpartum issues can be fixed. On this episode, Ariel is joined by Kane Baron, one of Ariel's podcasting mentors, who teaches us about the many ways you can use podcasting to connect with people and grow your business. It's also a great tool for learning how to express yourself and just reaching the world with your own amazing message. KEY TAKEAWAYS This wasn't the plan, from a kid I planned to go into law, I did all my exams and got a law degree. But, during university I was always trying to find ways of making more money and I got into marketing for shops and cafes on social media to try and get them more business. I was an avid podcast listener though because they helped my revise. I worked in a coffee shop for the years I was at uni and every morning a guy called Rob Moore would come in, he had a range of nice cars, so I started giving him extra customer service and asked him about his businesses and his creative outlets like his podcast interviewing well known people. By the end of my second year I decided law wasn't for me. I DM'd Rob on Instagram to ask how we could work together and he took me up on it. We're not focussed on FTSE500 companies, a lot of other podcast agencies are very specific about the content and the people they work with and it's almost impossible to get picked up by these agencies – mostly, it's gatekept for celebrities. Our agency is for independent creators. The more niche and weird and wonderful your content is the more we want to work with you. There are millions and millions of people creating content every day across social media, it's very saturated and is very hard to stand out. The last few years the length of content has got shorter and shorter and is more about how it's edited and what tags and captions are used to hook you in for those few seconds, they're less bothered about giving value. That's great if all you care about is views, that's just vanity. If you care about impacting people, having important discussions, getting more business/leads for your company then you content marketing needs to focus on providing way more value for people. If you've got 100 people listening to you speak for 60 minutes every single week for a year, most people don't talk to their friends and family as much as they've listened to you over that year. If I've got a product that's worth a few grand or you're in a lucrative niche you don't need a million listeners, 100 is more than enough.   BEST MOMENTS “Shoot your shot. If you don't ask you don't get.”“It makes our days more interesting to work with a breadth of people, not people who have already got millions of followers or a PR company funding their campaign.”“A lot of the time, independent creators have got much better stories or more experience and that's much more valuable.”“It's our job to get you out there so people know who you are so that they'll care about your message.” ABOUT THE GUEST Kane Baron received a law degree but then pivoted to become the lead trainer at the UK's largest Podcast training company as well as head of growth at Progressive media, a podcast agency specializing in helping independent creators monetize their message. One World in a New World with Karen Pascal - Author, Entrepreneur, Life Coach & Podcast Host An Apocalyptic Chat with host, Zen Benefiel, MA, MBA, Transformational Coach (https://BeTheDream.com) Karen's jovial demeanor certainly adds to the sharing of her journey from Guyana to the U.S. Cultures are different and yet she responds similarly to many guests in the knowing and yet not knowing how. She recognized over time that her sensitivity was different than most, yet everyone has the ability to recognize subtle impressions. Her early inquiry began with the curiosity of what others were thinking. How do we deal with the varies voices we hear from time to time? Karen shares that at times the voices are in other languages and at times her inner sight revealed other life forms, too. Throughout this conversational exploration, she shares several instances where she paid and attention to the 'inner voice' and others where she did not. Listen in for your own insight. Her stories are perhaps typical and yet not. Moments of authentic and raw reflections will warm your heart. When queried about her learning of the functionality of her awareness and sensitivity she shares her internal process of learning to let go of the outcome, whether she heeded the voice or not. Karen reflects and reviews, apocalytically, how the advice from within was there, subtly, always. What situations have you found where 'something' offered a message so clear and so quietly? Karen shares her grandmother gave her wise advice when she was younger; don't be attached to anything. She found that this unattachment actually emerges from unconditional love. She feels we are lucky to be here and the importance of enjoying each moment with love and compassion allows freedom to experience more in life. Insights are sharred from a recent Friendship Bench, sponsored by BizCatalyst360, regarding the process of transformation being slow, like a snake shedding its skin slowly, or like a lobster that is quicker in changing yet has a greater vulnerability in doing so. Karen offers that the transcendence is going beyond ego, surrendering to the higher self or the natural connection we all have with creation. In the subtle world, does the outer world become a challenge or distraction to flow? Karen recounts some instances in Guyana where precarious situations became safer when she remained still inside and offered no attention to the outer event's temptation. The conversation goes deeper in exploring out-of-body experiences, which Karen describes in greater detail as Zen inquires further. Although the topics are serious, some pushing boundaries of understanding, Karen's authentic joy and openness is certainly refreshing. Karen and Zen discuss the congruency of science and spirituality in exploring the dynamics of inner sensitivity and relationships with self and others. She will surprise you with how easily she shares what most of us are recitent to do. Thanks for your attention and time. Please do subscribe and share our channel. How to respect your body in midlife with the help of gentle nutrition.   If we haven't already met, I'm Amanda Bullat RDN - registered dietitian, certified intuitive eating counselor, and a strong advocate for helping you savor food and body in midlife.   As a former athlete with a disordered relationship with food and a woman in my 40s, I live for helping women in midlife undiet their lives through intuitive eating, mindfulness, and wellness without obsession.   During the Month of January, I've been teaching you how to be great at intuitive eating in midlife - based on the Principles of Intuitive Eating.   If you've missed the previous 4 episodes of this How to be great at intuitive eating in midlife series, you can listen to the past recordings here on the Savor Food and Body Podcast, episodes 65, 67, 69, and 71   This week we'll wrap up the series by talking about body respect and gentle nutrition.   To be honest, when I'm working with 1:1 clients, these principles are woven throughout our work - especially as they relate to nutrition and body image in midlife.   When it comes to the intuitive eating principle of Body Respect, the original definition encourages positive body image by honoring your genetic blueprint with kindness and compassion. Listen as I explain why, for women in midlife, I like to go a little deeper with this definition to include your physical and mental health and how to treat both with respect. As far as Gentle nutrition or compassionate nutrition as I like to call it, midlife is more about adding than subtracting.  If you've been on and off diets for years, you've subtracted enough foods to know that strategy doesn't work in the long term.  In this episode, you'll hear why it's critically important to eat enough food consistently, enjoy variety, and honor your satisfaction. Hit play and I'll show you how to make healthy eating in midlife easy and tasty.  Get additional resources at www.alpinenutrition.org/blog Watch the video on the Savor Food and Body YouTube Channel How's your relationship with food? Hunger-Fullness Spectrum with Satisfaction on the Side If we haven't already met, I'm Amanda Bullat RDN - registered dietitian, certified intuitive eating counselor, and a strong advocate for helping you savor food and body in midlife. As a former athlete with disordered eating and a woman in my 40s, I live for helping women in midlife undiet their lives through intuitive eating, mindfulness, and wellness without obsession. In this series, I'll be teaching the principles in the order I typically use with my 1:1 clients. So far we've talked about how to reject the diet mentality and make peace with all foods (episode 65). Last week I shared how to identify your food-police thoughts and how focusing on satisfaction with food can keep those food-police thoughts at bay (episode 67). Today, let's take a look at what I call the hunger-fullness spectrum, why it can be hard to honor subtle signs of hunger, and how satisfaction plays a critical role in finding comfortable fullness. Here's what you'll learn: What is the hunger-fullness spectrum and why I don't call it a scale? Why it's difficult to hear subtle cues of hunger, especially if you've been pursuing weight loss for decades, experienced trauma of any kind, are feeling stressed or burned out, or have experienced food insecurity?  How ravenous hunger relates to uncomfortable fullness, bingeing, and bargaining. How the practice of satisfaction (mindful eating) with food can help you find comfortable fullness without following food rules Remember! This is a spectrum to help you get to know your hunger-fullness cues better and learn to trust your body's needs as they fluctuate throughout life. Practice not perfection is the name of the game! She didn't know that she could be more fulfilled, more peaceful, a better mum, a better volunteer and a better wife. She had found herself really good at doing but not so good at being. It took a neck injury to stop her in her tracks. After trying many different ways of healing, there was only one way which worked for Dana and that was healing from the heart.   KEY TAKEAWAY “You do have a WHY. You're not an accident. You're here on purpose. You have a gift. You have something to offer the world. So I encourage you to invest in that. If you want to have great sex in midlife but feel like your relationship is lacking the lust and passion it used to have in your 20s, maybe it's because you're compromising.   The first time I heard Dr. Alexandra Stockwell, MD say, "if you want to have a bland, passion-less, companionship with your partner, compromise," I thought, wait, what? That's what I've heard all my life...a successful marriage is based on compromise.   And while that may be true, it says nothing about having a successful AND passionate marriage or partnership that includes great sex.    We're rounding out season 2 of the Savor Food and Body Podcast with the first (of hopefully many) conversations about sex, intimacy, body image, and intimate relationships.    My guest, known as “The Intimacy Doctor,” Alexandra Stockwell, MD is an Intimate Marriage Expert who specializes in coaching couples to build beautiful, long-lasting, passionate relationships. She is the bestselling author of “Uncompromising Intimacy” and host of The Intimate Marriage Podcast. For over 20 years she has shown men and women how to bring pleasure and purpose into all aspects of life-- from the daily grind of running a household to intimate communication and ecstatic experiences in the bedroom.  A wife of 26 years and a mother of 4, Dr. Alexandra believes the key to passion, fulfillment, intimacy, and success, isn't compromise--it's being unwilling to compromise. Because when both people feel free to be themselves, the relationship becomes juicy, nourishing, and deeply satisfying.  Dr. Alexandra has been featured in the Huffington Post, Rolling Stone, USAToday, Cosmopolitan, Business Insider, thrive global, mind body green, FOX NEWS NYC, and Disruptors Magazine recently named her one of “30 Inspiring Women to Watch in 2022." Our juicy conversation includes... How Dr. Alexandra went from a thriving medical practice to becoming the "intimacy doctor" and relationship coach.  What are the biggest challenges her clients face when it comes to emotional intimacy in midlife? How the relationships we have with our bodies impact our intimate relationships? And what suggestions Dr. Alexandra has for women in midlife who struggle with negative body image in the bedroom? Finally, Dr. Alexandra shares what long-term couples can do to cultivate more curiosity in their intimate relationship during midlife and beyond. Whether you've been in your marriage for decades, a few years, or haven't found the right person to spend the rest of your life with yet, this episode will put savoring your body into a whole new perspective.  Get show notes and resources at www.alpinenutrition.org/blog Do you have an unhealthy relationship with food? I know it's hard to hear. But before you click away from the show, unsubscribe, and tell all your friends how un-relatable the Savor Food and Body Podcast is, hear me out - or rather, hear out my guest Dacy Gillespie, online personal stylist, and owner of Mindful Closet. Dacy's mission in life is to help women release the patriarchal standards they've been conforming to for way too long, and uncover their true, authentic personal style and beauty. In this interview, you'll hear... How Dacy went from professional bass player to online stylist and what inspires her to focus on debunking the arbitrary standards of fashion for women in midlife. A brief history lesson on where those arbitrary standards came from and how they're reflected in fashion culture today. Dacy shares her thoughts on why holding on to clothes that no longer serve you is like holding yourself to a previous life's standard that likely wasn't obtainable, and what you can do to help yourself move towards body acceptance by owning your authentic style. How it's rarely about just the clothes, but more about the story behind why you're wearing what you think you should be wearing instead of what you want to be wearing. Finally, Dacy offers 2 key strategies to help women in midlife start to develop their own authentic style and step into their authentic beauty - from the inside out. Like what you hear?
