A stronger primary care relationship can be the difference between constant crisis and steady health. That's the throughline of our conversation with Dr. Detwiler, the incoming Director of Osteopathic Medicine at the CMG Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency. Dr. Detwiler brings rural roots, 25 years of family practice and a clear mission, to train physicians who treat mind, body and spirit while delivering measurable results for communities that need care the most.We dig into what actually sets osteopathic medicine apart. It's not a split from modern medicine. DOs are fully trained in the same diagnostics, procedures and specialties as MDs. The distinction is a disciplined focus on human connection, structure and function and the body's capacity to heal with proper support. That lens changes the clinic room. Conversations include stress, sleep, work, beliefs and budget, because those factors drive adherence and outcomes. We also clear up misconceptions about OMT. Osteopathic manipulative treatment is a practical, hands-on tool for musculoskeletal issues, designed to complement medications and therapy, not replace them. At LFMR, we're building a curriculum that helps residents provide OMT efficiently within standard visits. There's a bigger system story too. Healthcare is shifting toward value-based care, where metrics like blood pressure control, A1C levels, and vaccination rates matter. LFMR's team-based model with residents, faculty, imaging, lab, OB care and social work under one roof makes it easier to close loops and lift those numbers. And the pipeline is real. By partnering with LUCOM and integrating trainees with local surgeons, hospitalists and specialists, we're creating the relationships that encourage physicians to stay at Centra for their care. That means more access, shorter waits and care that feels personal and effective. We're also launching an OMT clinic at LFMR for patients seeking targeted help with back and musculoskeletal pain from an osteopathic perspective. If you've struggled to find a primary care provider who listens and coordinates, we'd love to meet you. Subscribe, share this episode with someone who needs a steady healthcare home, and leave a review to help more people discover whole-person primary care in Lynchburg. For more content from Centra Health check us out on the following channels.YouTubeFacebookInstagramTwitter
In Part Two of our conversation on yoga and addiction recovery, we continue our discussion with Noelle, a trauma informed yoga teacher whose work bridges holistic practice, recovery support, and community healing. This episode moves beyond introduction and into impact, exploring what healing can look like over the long term and why recovery is about far more than willpower alone. Noelle shares insights on relapse, nervous system regulation, and the challenges individuals face when transitioning out of structured treatment and back into everyday life. We discuss how yoga can support the brain and body during recovery, how somatic practices complement medical and behavioral health interventions, and why compassion, safety, and dignity are essential components of effective recovery systems. Listeners will also hear powerful reflections from individuals who participate in Recovery Yoga, offering firsthand perspectives on what it means to reconnect with the body, feel safe again, and experience moments of ease without substances. This episode is especially relevant for healthcare professionals, public health practitioners, and anyone interested in community based approaches to healing. Dialed In for 2026 // Fasting for Mind, Body, and SpiritPastors JF and Ashley WilkersonMatthew 6:16–18 NIV16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”1. Fasting Helps Dial in Your MindDaniel 1:15–20 NIV15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead. 17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds. 18 At the end of the time set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king's service. 20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.1. Fasting Helps Dial In Your Mind2. Fasting Helps Dial In Your Body1 Corinthians 6:19–20 NIV19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.1. Fasting Helps Dial In Your Mind2. Fasting Helps Dial In Your Body3. Biblical Fasting Helps Dial In Your SpiritBIBLICAL FASTING - refraining from food for a spiritual purpose.3. Biblical Fasting Helps Dial In Your Spirit- Biblical fasting deepens our awareness of our dependence on God.Matthew 4:1–4 NIV 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”Fasting is a chosen wilderness that helps to teach your spirit Who sustains you.3. Biblical Fasting Helps Dial In Your Spirit- Biblical fasting deepens our awareness of our dependence on God.- Biblical fasting should align us with God's heart and mission.Isaiah 58:3–10 NIV3 ‘Why have we fasted,' they say, ‘and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?' “Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers. 4 Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high. 5 Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for people to humble themselves? Is it only for bowing one's head like a reed and for lying in sackcloth and ashes? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord? 6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? 8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. 9 Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. “If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, 10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.1. In this rich and wide-ranging conversation, Ali sits down with yoga teacher, author, and anatomy educator Rachel Scott to explore what it truly means to live as a body – not just to have one.Beginning with a candid inquiry into modern yoga culture, Rachel gently peels back the layers of Western commodification to reveal yoga's deeper purpose: presence, self-regulation, and intimacy with the living intelligence beneath our habits and conditioning. From there, the dialogue opens into a profound exploration of embodiment as a spiritual practice – one that includes sensation, relationship, desire, stillness, and paradox.Drawing on decades of practice, Rachel shares how yoga, anatomy study, and contemplative stillness have shaped her understanding of consciousness, love, and human connection. Together, Ali and Rachel reflect on mindfulness versus “body-fulness,” nervous-system awareness in dating and relationships, and the wisdom of listening to the body's cues around safety, timing, and consent. The conversation also moves tenderly into themes rarely spoken aloud: fertility, choice, grief, freedom, and the many ways maternal love can be expressed beyond childbirth. Rachel speaks openly about her journey through wanting children, confronting ambivalence, and ultimately trusting the larger intelligence of life – an experience that reshaped her relationships, her work, and her sense of self.Weaving together yoga philosophy, Tantra, anatomy lab awe, and everyday relational practice, this episode is an invitation to slow down, feel more, and honor the mystery of being embodied. A heartfelt exploration of love, presence, and the courage it takes to listen deeply to the body's quiet truths.FOR MORE ALI MEZEY:ALI - WebsiteALI - LinkTreeALI BIO: Ali Mezey is a Body Therapist, Family Constellation Work Facilitator, Sexologist and Media Maker with over 40 years of experience. In this Healthy Waves episode, Avik Chakraborty sits down with Anjuly Rudolph to cut through the noise around yoga. They unpack why yoga is not just poses or flexibility goals, and how the original purpose is mind training, nervous system regulation, and emotional balance. Anjuly breaks down what gets lost in modern “fitness-only” yoga culture, shares beginner-friendly entry points for busy people, and explains why breathwork, grounding, and proper relaxation are non negotiable if you want results that actually stick. Expect practical, at-home micro habits you can run for 7 to 14 days to feel a real shift in stress, sleep, and energy. About the Guest: Anjuly Rudolph is a transformational catalyst blending yoga, hypnosis, energy healing, and coaching. Raised with deep yogic roots in an Indian family, she has carried this work across Uganda, Burundi, Syria, Tunisia, and Germany. She also trains yoga teachers in Germany and focuses on making yoga practical, grounded, and culturally respectful. Key Takeaways: Yoga is a full system for mind and energy, not just stretching or fitness. Asanas are only one small part of yoga. The bigger goal is calming mental fluctuations. A beginner does not need flexibility. Lack of flexibility is often the reason to start gently. Simple joint movements can be a low-barrier daily practice for mobility and stress release. Breath awareness is a fast lever for shifting your nervous system state. Grounding at the start of practice helps you actually “arrive” in your body. Final relaxation matters. Skipping it breaks the system and reduces benefits. Yoga Nidra is not the same as lying down quietly. It is a structured practice. Yoga supports emotional processing even when you cannot clearly name the emotion. A practical 14-day test: 2 minutes of conscious breathing morning and night, plus joint movement before sleep. Hot flashes occur when the hypothalamus becomes hypersensitive during menopause, triggering rapid blood vessel dilation and sweating. These vasomotor symptoms affect 80% of women and often persist for years A recent randomized clinical trial found that a six-week self-hypnosis program reduced menopausal hot flash frequency and severity by about 53%, with sustained improvements at 12 weeks About 90% of women using self-hypnosis reported noticeable relief, and those who practiced most consistently achieved the strongest reductions in hot flash frequency and daily interference The therapy was especially effective for breast cancer survivors, a group unable to use hormone-based treatments, producing a 64% reduction in symptom severity without adverse effects Beyond hypnosis, evidence also supports cognitive behavioral therapy to reduce how disruptive symptoms feel, relaxation practices to ease stress, and natural progesterone to help rebalance hormones during menopause

In this first episode of our two part series on yoga and addiction, we sit down with Noelle, a trauma informed yoga teacher who leads Recovery Yoga in Iowa City. Her work brings movement, breath, and community into addiction treatment settings, creating a space where people can reconnect with their bodies and experience healing without judgment. Host Lauren, a yoga teacher of nine years, reflects on attending one of Noelle's Tuesday night classes and witnessing firsthand how intentionally crafted the environment is. The conversation explores Noelle's path into yoga, the experiences that shaped her interest in addiction and trauma, and the unique role yoga can play for individuals in recovery. Listeners will hear about what yoga looks like inside treatment programs, why safety and choice are essential, and how even simple practices like breathwork can begin to shift long standing patterns of disconnection. Part Two continues next week with a deeper look at trauma, healing, and long term recovery through yoga. Mind–body training is widely recognized as a pillar of healthy aging. Research suggests that how we move — and how we think while we move — are deeply connected. When breath, focus and technique align, we sharpen cognition, reduce stress and build the kind of resilience that keeps us active for life.In this episode of Move for Life, fitness coaches Nate Wilkins and Shebah Carfagna explore why the mind–body connection is more than a trend — it's a practical framework for living longer and living well. From tai chi and yoga to strength training or a simple daily walk, they highlight the unifying theme of intentionality: paying attention to what the body is doing and why.Even small rituals — stepping outside for a dose of “ecotherapy,” or taking a mindful decision-making walk — can transform everyday movement into powerful brain-training moments. Studies now show that moderate physical activity can ease anxiety and depression as effectively as some medications. It's a compelling reminder that exercise isn't just for the body — it's one of the most potent tools we have for lifelong mental well-being.This is the latest in our 20-part series, Move for Life. You should consult a doctor or qualified fitness professional before beginning a new exercise program, especially if you have an existing health concerns or limited mobility.-----This podcast is supported by affiliate arrangements with a select number of companies. As we close out Season 3 (!!), I'm bringing you a cozy, nourishing final episode all about reflection, integration, and preparing your heart for the year ahead. This time of year holds such a unique energy: the slowing down, the looking back, the deeper exhale our bodies crave. And inside this episode, I'm walking you through the exact mind-body-soul reflection ritual I use every December to integrate the year, honor my growth, acknowledge the hard moments, and set aligned intentions for what's coming next. We talk about: ✨ How to do a powerful timeline look-back using your photos + calendar ✨ The Mind, Body & Soul framework I use to understand each season of my life ✨ My personal lessons from 2025 ✨ Navigating waiting seasons, fertility challenges, and unexpected timelines Plus, I share a little update about my coaching for 2026 and one last spot available at 2025 pricing. Thank you for being here for 120 episodes, whether this is your first or your fiftieth. Your presence, messages, shares, and listens mean more than you know. This show exists because of you.
Imagine a small town where neighbors gather for every celebration, and people stay remarkably healthy simply because they're deeply connected. Research shows that meaningful relationships—not achievement, diet, or even exercise—are the strongest predictor of long-term health and happiness, while loneliness can be as harmful as smoking two packs a day. Our social bonds influence gene expression, lowering stress and inflammation and activating the body's natural healing pathways. By prioritizing kindness, investing in uplifting relationships, and creating simple moments of togetherness, we tap into one of the most powerful longevity tools we have. And the hopeful truth is that building just a few authentic connections can change your life in profound, measurable ways. In this episode, I discuss, along with Radha Agrawal and Jeff Rosenthal, why deep, authentic connection is one of the most powerful determinants of our physical health, happiness, and longevity. Radha Agrawal is the co-founder, CEO, and Chief Community Architect of Daybreaker, the early-morning dance and wellness movement. Daybreaker currently holds events in 25 cities and more than a dozen college campuses around the world and has a community of almost half a million people. She is also the author of a new book called Belong: Find Your People, Create Community, and Live a More Connected Life. Jeff is the Co-Founder of Summit, a cutting-edge organization best known for hosting global ideas, festivals and events, and is the co-owner, principal designer, and developer of Summit Powder Mountain and Powder Mountain ski resort in Eden, Utah. SIBO is usually described as “too much bacteria in the wrong place,” but what if it's really an overgrowth of emotional responsibility, guilt, and other people's chaos living in your gut? In this episode, Heather McKean explores the emotional and metaphysical blueprint behind SIBO—over-responsibility, self-punishment, delayed reactions, fear of change, and inherited family patterns. Through a client story and practical reflection questions, she shows how restrictive diets can often reinforce the very emotional architecture that created the problem in the first place. You'll learn how to begin releasing what was never yours to carry, rebuild trust with your body, and support true healing using the Mind Change method. Episode topics:
In this wide-ranging and eye-opening conversation, Ginny sits down with Debra Williams, a health and wellness advocate, mom, and creator of Mind Body Blend “healthy advocacy” apparel. Debra shares her journey from working in a children's hospital wellness center to questioning why true preventative care like nutrition, toxins, time outside, and lifestyle, rarely shows up in mainstream medical conversations. She and Ginny talk candidly about asking hard questions around childhood health, their own experiences with vaccine injury, and what it means to make genuinely informed decisions in a system that often discourages dissent and critical thinking. From there, the conversation widens to the larger forces shaping childhood today: the normalization of AI and GPS that quietly erode our memory and attention, the peer pressure around smartphones and social media, and the way online culture is collapsing “middle childhood” into grown-up beauty standards and consumerism. Debra shares how her family is choosing a more low-tech, play-filled path, including starting local low-tech and holistic parenting groups, moving toward homeschooling, and helping her 10-year-old daughter stay a kid a little longer, still riding bikes, playing with stuffed animals, and creating instead of scrolling. If you've ever felt uneasy about screens, school, or the speed at which childhood seems to be disappearing, this episode will leave you both challenged and deeply encouraged to build real-life community and protect a simpler, more human way of growing up. Chronic pain affects over 50 million U.S. adults, but research shows that pain resilience — your ability to adapt and stay active despite discomfort — matters more than pain severity itself Pain resilience acts as a mental shock absorber, helping people maintain physical activity even with significant pain, while fear of movement has weaker influence when resilience is present Five components define pain resilience. These are emotional self-regulation, psychological flexibility, self-care behaviors, religion and spirituality, and internal strengths like optimism, persistence, and problem-solving skills Building resilience requires practical daily habits, including consuming healthy carbohydrates for energy, training your brain toward optimism through reframing challenges, and learning new skills or hobbies Physical activity and quality sleep strengthen resilience. Walking around 8,000 steps daily improves metabolic health and pain management, while good sleep helps you handle stress
Why does groundbreaking research on mind-body medicine disappear without a trace? How do emotional factors create conditions for chronic illness and autoimmune disease decades later? What happens when a Harvard study shows severe PTSD doubles ovarian cancer risk—and the medical system simply ignores it? Dr. Gabor Maté joins me to discuss the writing process behind The Myth of Normal, his 19-week New York Times bestseller bringing together decades of research on trauma, nervous system dysregulation, and how emotional factors drive physical disease. We explore why mind-body unity—understood since Socrates 2,600 years ago—remains controversial in mainstream medicine despite overwhelming scientific evidence. Gabor addresses the most damaging misconception about his work: that he blames parents and patients. Whether we're trauma-informed practitioners, healing from chronic illness, or parents navigating guilt and shame, we'll understand why this conversation about mind-body medicine is finally reaching people—even when the medical system isn't ready. In this episode you'll learn: [01:59] The Myth of Normal Journey: How 10 years of research and 20,000 articles became a 500-page synthesis of trauma biology [04:00] Writing for Critics Made Me Sick: Why trying to convince skeptics creates the very trauma biology we're studying [06:00] Harvard's 1939 Buried Truth: Soma Weiss's lecture on emotional factors equaling physical factors—and why it's still ignored [07:42] PTSD Doubles Ovarian Cancer Risk: Harvard study the average gynecologist never read—and what it means for trauma healing [09:40] People Are Ready, Systems Aren't: Why this trauma revolution is happening at the grassroots level first [13:53] New York Times Bestseller Doesn't Equal Happiness: The personal lesson about achievement and inner state [16:00] The Biggest Misconception: Addressing the damaging claim that Gabor blames parents and patients for illness [18:00] ADHD, Genes, and Environment: Why genetic sensitivity plus stressed parents creates attention dysregulation—without blame Main Takeaways: Mind-Body Unity Isn't New Science: Socrates recognized 2,600 years ago that separating mind from body was medicine's fundamental error, and Harvard professor Soma Weiss lectured in 1939 that emotional factors equal physical factors in disease causation and healing. This isn't cutting-edge discovery—it's forgotten wisdom the medical system repeatedly buries. Scientific Evidence Disappears in the Bermuda Triangle: Hundreds of peer-reviewed studies demonstrate trauma's biological impact on chronic illness, autoimmune disease, and cancer risk, yet research doesn't change medicine when ideology creates blind spots. A Harvard study showed severe PTSD doubles ovarian cancer risk, but the average gynecologist never reads it. Empowerment, Not Blame, Changes Lives: Understanding that stress affects multiple sclerosis relapse risk or that the environment acts on ADHD genes doesn't blame patients or parents—it empowers them. Knowledge of how trauma creates conditions for illness provides agency to address root causes rather than remaining passive recipients of symptomatic care. Mitochondrial Dysfunction Extends the Mind-Body Framework: While The Myth of Normal covers mind-body unity comprehensively, Biology of Trauma® goes deeper to subcellular levels—showing how trauma affects mitochondria, cellular energy production, and the biology underneath symptoms. Notable Quotes: "Socrates said 2,600 years ago in ancient Greece that the problem with the doctors today is they separate the mind from the body." "Emotional factors are at least as important in the causation of disease as physiological factors, and must be at least as important in the healing." (From the 1939 Harvard lecture) "You can have the same genes and have ADHD or not have ADHD. What makes the difference is how the environment acts on those genes." "Trauma is so ubiquitous in this culture and it's so poorly understood and addressed in the healing profession." "The change will happen at the level of people, not at the system. The people will demand the system change." Episode Takeaway: What struck me most in this conversation with Gabor is how the desperate need to convince skeptical colleagues stems from our earliest attachment patterns where authority figures' opinions determined our safety. This is why writing to prove ourselves to critics creates the very nervous system dysregulation our trauma work addresses. Mind-body unity isn't revolutionary new science—it's 2,600 years of wisdom that mainstream medicine repeatedly buries. When Harvard published research in 1939 showing emotional factors equal physical factors in disease, and recent studies demonstrate severe PTSD doubles ovarian cancer risk, the medical system's silence isn't about lack of evidence but about ideological blind spots. The revolution happening now shows people are ready for this conversation even when systems aren't. As chronic illness increases, people seek understanding of how stored trauma, nervous system dysregulation, and emotional factors create conditions for autoimmune disease, cancer, and ADHD decades later. This isn't about blaming parents or patients—it's about empowering us with agency to address root causes. External achievement doesn't heal unresolved trauma, but the gratitude when we stop trying to convince critics and instead empower people with truth makes it worthwhile. We're catching a wave we're also generating. The system will change when people demand it. What if changing what kids eat at school could transform their behavior, boost learning, and even save lives? Studies show that when kids swap junk food for real, nourishing meals, behavior problems drop, focus improves, and learning soars—with one study finding a 100% reduction in suicides among youth simply by changing their diet. Across the country, schools are proving that scratch-cooked, colorful meals made from whole ingredients can fit tight budgets, reduce waste, and make kids excited to eat. By putting nutritious food at the center of education, we can help raise a generation that's healthier, happier, and ready to learn. In this episode, Jill Shah, Sam Kass, Kimbal Musk, and I talk about the powerful connection between nutrition and education, showing that healthy school meals can transform not just kids' diets but their futures. Jill Shah is the President of the Shah Family Foundation, which drives innovative work at the intersection of education, healthcare, and community in Boston. Her leadership focuses on improving access to healthy school food, supporting neighborhood food equity, and fostering collaboration between schools and healthcare to strengthen children's physical, emotional, and social well-being. Before launching the foundation, Jill was a successful entrepreneur involved in several internet startups, including iXL, RxCentric, and Mercator Software, and later founded Jill's List, which she sold to MINDBODY in 2013. A graduate of Providence College, she now serves on the boards of the Red Sox Foundation, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Museum of Fine Arts, Belmont Hill School, and the Winsor School. Jill's commitment to community innovation has earned her honors such as the Boston Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Bostonian Award and the Playworks Game Changer Award. Sam Kass was senior policy advisor for nutrition policy in the Obama Administration and is currently an investor in several food technology start-ups. One of Michelle Obama's longest-serving advisors, Sam was the executive director of her Let's Move initiative and helped create the first major vegetable garden at the White House since Eleanor Roosevelt's Victory Garden. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago and was trained by one of Austria's greatest chefs, Christian Domschitz. Kimbal Musk is the co-founder of The Kitchen, an American bistro with restaurant locations in Boulder, Denver, Chicago, and soon Austin. Now marking its twentieth anniversary, The Kitchen serves thoughtfully sourced, Seasonal American Shared Plates with global influences. Musk is also the co-founder of Big Green, a philanthropic organization devoted to getting every American growing food. His personal mission is to empower and invest in the next generation who are building a healthier, happier future. The Wall Street Journal has called him a "cheerful crusader for real food," and The Guardian has lauded how he “takes the tech entrepreneur ethos and applies it to food.” Musk has been named a Global Social Entrepreneur by the World Economic Forum. Musk currently sits on the board of Tesla Inc. and formerly served on the board of Chipotle Mexican Grill and SpaceX. This episode is brought to you by BIOptimizers. She blends behavioral science with trauma-informed, somatic coaching to help clients release shame, reconnect with the body, and build honest, enjoyable intimacy. Key takeaways: Play shifts the brain out of protection and into exploration, reducing walls that block intimacy and self-connection. Genuine fun lowers cortisol and calms the nervous system, supporting mood, energy, and healthier choices. Shame thrives on self-consciousness; small, safe acts of silliness (dancing alone, laughing at awkward moments) rebuild confidence. Laughter during imperfect moments can transform embarrassment into bonding and positive sexual experiences. Authenticity over performance: performing is fine if you enjoy it; it becomes harmful when it's a “should” that disconnects you from yourself. Start tiny: make a “feel-good” list (music, baths, nature, reading) and schedule one micro-dose of joy daily. Protect decompression time after work; short rituals (e.g., music on the commute) can reset the body before hard conversations. Presence fuels desire: think “pilot light” at your core—fun and permission help it burn brighter. Balance matters: use fun to fulfill, not to avoid; if life tasks suffer, recalibrate without moralizing. A quick practice: breathe into your belly, recall something that gives you butterflies, notice sensations, accept them without judgment. As I explore the significance of breath, I highlight it as a fundamental, yet often overlooked, tool for achieving a state of tranquility and balance within our bodies and minds. Drawing inspiration from James Nestor's enlightening book, "Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art," I emphasize how the way we breathe can dramatically influence our overall well-being.Throughout the discussion, I unpack the automatic nature of breathing and how our typical patterns can betray us, especially in moments of anxiety. When we are overwhelmed, it's common for our breathing to become shallow and rapid, sending distress signals to our brain and maintaining a state of hyperarousal. I reflect on my own journey of discovering the benefits of long, slow exhalations and conscious breathing, which not only transformed my personal anxiety management but also allowed me to assist others in making similar changes.I stress the importance of breathing through the nose, as highlighted by Nestor, reclaiming what he describes as the "lost art of breathing." I detail the physiological benefits of proper nasal breathing — it calms the nervous system and activates the parasympathetic response, ensuring that our bodies can transition to rest and digest mode. Practical exercises are woven throughout the episode, allowing listeners to engage with their breath in real time, guiding them away from stress and towards a newfound sense of safety.#AnxietyCoachesPodcast, #Breathwork, #AnxietyRelief, #NervousSystem, #MindBody, #JamesNestor, #BreathTheNewScienceOfALostArt, #NasalBreathing, #SlowBreathing, #Calm #Mindfulness, #RelaxationTechniques, #VagusNerve, #SelfCompassion, #HealthAndWellness, #StressManagement, #ConsciousBreathing, #RestAndDigest, #AnxietySucks, #BreathingExercises, #ReduceStress, #PodcastLife, #DailyPractice, #InhaleExhale, #InnerPeace, #EmotionalHealth, #MentalWellness, #NaturalCalm, #ResetButton #GinaRyan #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In this episode, I had the most high-vibe, queen-energy conversation in Dubai with one of the city's finest expanders, the queen who pulls the energy of expansion forward in all of us, Regan Hillyer. Regan is an internationally renowned manifestation teacher whose work bridges energetics, embodiment, and the quantum field. Her teachings remind us that we can literally sculpt our reality, collapse time, and create new visions for our lives that we never thought possible. When I recorded this, I was in a moment of deep expansion, learning to stretch my capacity to receive and anchor into my royal frequency. Dubai, to me, represented that energy — a city of limitless possibility and creation. Together, Regan and I explore:

Read along with the original article(s) here: https://mindbodywise.com/blog/conquering-your-feelings-phobia/ Quotes to ponder: "Many of us have a phobia of our feelings, a fear of fully feeling our emotions." "When we resist what we feel, our emotions intensify, linger, or show up in other ways, such as anxiety, irritability, or physical pain." We hear the word “surrender” all the time in spirituality, but what does it actually mean? For most of my life, surrender didn't make sense. My mom fled war in Iran, my dad too, and everything I learned growing up was about fighting for freedom, not giving in. So when people said “just surrender,” I thought it meant giving up. It wasn't until my marriage ended that I learned what real surrender was. I didn't have a choice anymore. I had to trust that Spirit was guiding me somewhere greater, even if I couldn't see where. That moment opened the door to a year of complete flow. I left everything behind, traveled the world with one suitcase, and discovered new archetypes within myself that I never knew existed. But eventually, I realized there's a paradox in all of this. If we only surrender, we can lose direction. If we only control, we block the magic. The truth is, we need both. ✨ In this episode, I explore: What surrender really means and how it shows up in our lives The balance between trusting the universe and taking aligned action The archetypes of “Surrender Sarita” and “Control Candace” How to know when life is asking you to release versus when it's time to focus Why both structure and flow are needed to create your dharma This conversation is a reminder that surrender isn't about giving up. It's about trusting that Spirit may have a bigger plan than the one you made for yourself.
