Hollywood says Krampus is an ancient Christmas demon with roots in pagan mythology — but there's no evidence any of that is true. The real story of how this monster came to be is stranger than any legend. #HolidayHorrorsIN THIS EPISODE: We're all familiar with the poem “A Visit From St. Nicholas” – better known as, “Twas The Night Before Christmas”. But while we know the poem, we can't be quite as sure about who wrote it. (The Christmas Poem That Started a Feud) *** One of the great (and now, sadly, lapsed) Christmas traditions is the telling of ghost stories. On one particular year, a British teenager took this pastime to a whole other level. He didn't read about a Christmas Eve haunting. He experienced one. (The Phantom Choir of St. Albans) *** The past few years have made Krampus, the Christmas devil, a star of the big screen. But have you noticed that every version of him is different than the others? This may of course be in part to creative license, but it might have just as much if not more to do with the fact that none of the filmmakers had any idea of just what Krampus truly is, what he is all about, and how terrifying he can be. (Krampus, The Christmas Monster) *** Disaster strikes a small Illinois town on Christmas Eve, stripping away all that was merry and bright for the families who lived there. From an inexplicable force that turned a woman to ashes in her farmhouse, to strange phenomena that transformed a quiet English town into a UFO hotspot, these chilling Christmas mysteries continue to baffle investigators and haunt communities long after the holiday decorations were packed away.IN THIS EPISODE: A nurse was found dead in her bed - and her boyfriend and his nine-year-old son vanished, leaving behind only a truck full of bloodstained presents. (Christmas Murder in Lockhart) *** A little girl vanishes on a winter road trip to Las Vegas, and twenty Christmases later, a detective's search for answers leads to a desperate couple's final confession - but not to the truth about what really happened to two-year-old Nikole Betterson. (Nikole's Christmas Farewell) *** Behind one of the most beloved Christmas poems ever written lies a centuries-old mystery: was "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" penned by a scholarly professor for his children, or did someone else create the story that shaped how we see Santa Claus? (‘Twas The Mystery Before Christmas) *** When Patty Vaughan left her home on Christmas Day 1996, she left behind three children and a trail of mysterious clues - including an abandoned van, suspicious blood stains, and a red work uniform that would puzzle investigators for decades to come. (The Patty Vaughan Vanishing) *** When farmhand John Larson awoke to find soot on his pillow on Christmas morning 1885, he never imagined he'd discover his employer Patrick Rooney dead from smoke inhalation and his wife Matilda mysteriously burned to ash in a perfectly circular hole in their kitchen floor - with no other fire damage to the house. (Matilda Rooney's Christmas Combustion) *** In the quiet town of New London, Connecticut, what began as a simple flat tire on Christmas Eve 1973 turned into one of the community's darkest mysteries when twenty-year-old Kevin Showalter was struck and killed by a driver who vanished into the night - leaving behind a grieving mother, whispers of a cover-up, and questions that would haunt the town for decades. (The Hit And Run Death of Kevin Showalter) *** A teenage girl's first office Christmas party should have been a celebration of new beginnings, but for Rhonda Hinson, it became her last night alive - and the start of a mystery that would puzzle investigators for over forty years. (Rhonda Hinson's Only Office Christmas Party) *** A mother's quick errand turns into a decades-old mystery when Tracy Mertens vanishes from her Birmingham flat days before Christmas, leaving investigators with a yellow Ford Escort, two mysterious men, and questions that remain unanswered to this day. (The Tracy Mertens Mystery) *** On Christmas morning 1964, the quiet town of Warminster, England woke up to strange sounds that would mark the beginning of one of history's most puzzling mysteries - a series of unexplained events that would become known worldwide as 'The Thing. This Natchat episode explores the evolving challenges faced by CISOs in balancing sprawling legacy infrastructures with the need to deliver innovative digital experiences. Cloudflare's Shaz Camali and Mike Awford highlight how organisations can address these issues through platform consolidation, modernising legacy systems like VPNs, and adopting zero trust principles. A major focus is on the secure integration of AI, including managing risks around “shadow AI” and sensitive data exposure. They stress the importance of continuous verification, granular policy controls, and visibility to enable safe AI adoption without stifling innovation. The discussion underscores that AI use cases are rapidly expanding, making security and agility critical for businesses to remain competitive.

A guy dressed as Santa comes in and kills the vibe. It's Glen. He owns the bookstore, and he's very passive-aggressive about how no one in this town comes to his bookstore. Glen has a past. He's banned from the diner, and everyone seems to hate him. He gives presents to everyone and tells Emily that he picked this one specially for her—it's rare he finds a fellow mystery lover. The night continues, and Emily sees Glen in his Santa suit scurrying quickly outside. She goes to follow him, finds his hat on the floor, and then sees a car speed off. Just as that happens, she hears a scream. She runs inside and sees Sue, who was throwing the party. She's crying as she looks at Glen, who has been stabbed in the heart. When Emily gets home, she opens the gift. It's a special green edition of A Christmas Carol. We get a flashback of Emily visiting the bookstore and meeting Glen. She tells him about this edition of A Christmas Carol that her parents used to read to her. He remembered and tracked the book down. As she opens it, a letter falls out, inviting her to a very special event at the law offices tomorrow at 8 p.m. What is Glen up to?!So, she goes to tell Sam, and he says, “How would you feel about me being a plus-one so I can take a gander?”They show up, and the video plays—it's Glen, predicting his own death and setting up a treasure hunt. Sam tries to get everyone to give him their books so he can search for clues. They're like, “Nah. There's treasure to find!”It doesn't take Emily long to find the first clue using a UV light on her book. She thinks the other books have clues too and that they all need to work together on it. She gets two others on board—a hot dog stand owner named Harry and Brooke Carmichael. But Glen's nephew, Fred, says he and his wife don't want to participate (mainly Fred's wife—she didn't like Glen). To make matters worse, there's one book still missing. She thinks maybe he gave it to the diner owner, Sue, but Sue says she threw the book out.Sam finds out that Glen had Huntington's disease. After Fred finds this out, he decides that they want to participate. Even though they're missing one book, they decide to put all the clues together and try to figure out what they're pointing to. It has something to do with a precious memory. Fred says, “The only memory I can think of with Glen is him reading Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Emily says, “Go see if he has that book in the bookstore. Maybe there's a clue.”As they're walking towards the store, Emily sees the car that sped off and notices a letter that clearly came from Glen in the front seat. Just then, Fred realizes the bookstore is unlocked. Sam goes in first and finds a guy there. It's Fred's brother Noah. They haven't seen each other in a long time. Apparently, when their mom got sick, Noah left. Sam takes Noah in for questioning and presents him with some pretty tough evidence—they found Glen's Santa suit in the trunk and the USB drive with Glen's video on it from the lawyer's office, which was stolen. He gives reasons for all of it, but it's not looking great.Fred tells Emily that he did finally go find the book and found a USB drive! They agree to all get together tomorrow to watch what's on it.As Emily's going home, an SUV speeds at her, and she has to tuck-and-roll out of the way.The next day, they all get together, and it's another video with a very cryptic clue. We find out that someone is sitting in a car, listening in on their conversation.Later, the group gets back together, but Fred is nowhere to be found. Turns out he was attacked from behind. He says he doesn't know who did it. Sam gets a call—they found Fred's wife's DNA on the Santa suit. She says she found out that the first editions were missing and went to talk to Glen. She found him dead and knew it wouldn't look good that she found him, so she put the suit on and ran out.Emily finds Noah in the diner—he's been released. She convinces him to join the group in solving the mystery. He comes to her store and sees there's a hole in the wall—she has a leak. He says he thought maybe it was one of the secret compartments these old buildings have. That gives them the idea to look for one in the bookstore, and they find it! Inside is a suitcase—a go-bag, if you will. They discover a folder with a plane ticket to Switzerland for the day of the party and a brochure for a place in Switzerland for end-of-life care. He was planning to leave and die in Switzerland. Emily recalls that the tape says, “If you're seeing this, that means I'm gone.” He didn't know he was going to be murdered. He was just planning on disappearing. They find the final clue and watch the video. Suddenly, Harry, the hot dog guy, is gone, and so are all the books. Emily puts it together—he killed Glen and was just trying to solve the mystery. She goes to confront him in the cemetery where the final clue leads to. We find out that he showed up to steal the first edition A Christmas Carol and threatened to kill Glen to get it. Glen laughed in his face, knowing he was dying. That offended Harry, so he stabbed him.Emily then fights him, takes him down, and puts him in plastic cuffs to get the treasure! She figures out it was the lawyer who hired this guy, and he gets arrested. She gets the group back together and hands out what Glen left for everyone. It's very sweet. The movie ends with Emily coming down to her store and seeing Sam fixing her wall. They end up making out HARD!!! She says, “Let's go for a walk in the snow.” She has to go change, and that's when he gets a phone call—he's been investigating Emily and noticed some discrepancies in her story. He got a call from his higher-up to drop any and all research into her. So, clearly, she isn't who she says she is. The episode ends with him asking her, “Who are you really?” Fade to black. The Nature of RedemptionWhen Christ institutes the Lord's Supper, he captures the uniqueness of the Passover in contrast to the familiar myth-making found in "' Twas the Night Before Christmas." While the poem crafts a benevolent Santa Claus who rewards the good, Christ's Lord's Supper, which builds on the Passover, underscores the necessity of violent redemption, revealing humanity's deep need for a savior who does more than merely reward or punish based on merit. Christ's appropriation of the Passover demonstrates that redemption is not a gentle or sentimental transaction, but a costly one that addresses the fundamental brokenness and unworthiness present in every person.Christ's TransformationCentral to the message is how Christ's celebration and redefinition of Passover radically departs from tradition. Instead of recounting a distant act of salvation, Jesus identifies himself as the sacrificial lamb, instigating the new covenant through his body and blood. These actions confound expectations and overturn religious scripts, compelling the disciples and all who remember the story to reflect on the true meaning of remembrance and participation in God's redemption. The meal serves not merely as a memorial, but as a sign of ongoing spiritual communion, nourishment, and transformation that only comes through Christ.Kingdom Values and DiscipleshipFinally, the sermon challenges listeners to reconsider their attitudes toward significance, worthiness, and power in God's kingdom. The disciples' arguments over position at the table reveal human tendencies to seek status, even at a sacred moment of redemption. Christ responds by redefining greatness in terms of humble service and dependence on divine grace. The text calls believers to find joy not in our achievements or entitlement, but in Christ's radical grace that alone makes the recipients worthy to draw near. Ironically, we find our significance by emptying ourselves of significance.

Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTHIt's the night before and an elf band is out in the snow and they beginning playing an absolute banger of a song and that's when Dan found out this movie was a musical. Santa begins to sing a song all about preparing for Christmas. It's showtime baby! There is one letter that got left behind, so these elves run to try to get it to Santa before he takes off. One of the reindeer, Robin, gets sick and has to stay home. The elves come running out just in time and Santa opens up the letter. It is from a little girl, The Princesss of Hearts, in Wonderland who is hoping Santa will finally visit them this year. He decides that they're going to visit Wonderland first. The reindeer aren't having it. They've read the book. Wonderland is mad! Santa reminds them that he's Santa and everyone deserves a gift! Robin realizes that Santa left the reindeer SOS button behind, so they fly off.We head to Wonderland and we find out that some of the folks in Wonderland secretly celebrate Christmas but hide it from the Queen because she's outlawed Christmas.  She heads off to sleep just as Santa lands on the roof. Her cat hears some commotion on the roof and won't stand for it. So they go invisible mode, sneaks downstairs and knocks over a lamp to wake the Queen up. She comes downstairs and finds Santa and she says OFF WITH HIS HEAD! He runs off and she fall out the window. Santa tries to find the princess but ends up opening a door which causes him to fall through the door and into a maze. It's mad out there! He discovers a girl named Alice who is also there and she's a giant - she's been eating the apple shrooms. Luckily, she's given a potion which shrinks her back to regular size. They go to enjoy some tea and treats with the Mad Hatter. But the Queen isn't too far behind. We find out that the Queen tried to send a letter to Santa when she was a kid, but the White Rabbit goofed on getting it to the mailbox in one piece. Since Santa never came to Wonderland, she began to hate Christmas. she catches up with Santa and he is put on trial. It's in the trial that the Queen finds out that St. Nick has only just now discovered her letter. Via song, we find out all she really wanted was a bandersnatch. She gives it some thought and decides to give St. Nick one last chance to give her the bandersnatch she's always wanted. But Santa and the gang took some of the shrinking juice to escape from jail. When Queen gets to the jail, she finds it empty and gets real sad. She tracks Santa down and he gives her the gift and it's coal. He explains that's what happens to a gift if you haven't been nice. The only way to get the gift is to be kind. So she decides to let Alice go but keep Santa in jail until the gift turns back. Alice helps the Queen learn how to be kind again. She finds Santa and tells him to give the gift to someone who deserves it and they all enjoy tea together.

Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTHThe Fletchers Grove real estate party is FINALLY HERE!!!

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE RIFLE SEASON Written by Tim Biebel CUZ STICKLAND 'Twas the night before Rifle Season and all through my mind, Were images of big bucks that were one of a kind. My Gear was in a pile on the bench by the door, The next morning I'd be wearing it at quarter past four.   ROBBIE KROGER I snuggled into bed but not a wink did I sleep, For I only saw deer as I tried to count sheep. My wife slept beside me and I thought, “Oh, how I'm blessed”, She was excited for me, but still got plenty of rest.  HEATHER JONES SHEPHERD I laid awake for hours on end, Able only to think of how the next day would trend. My eyes were heavy but I couldn't seem to shake Visions of a buck that only big dreams could make. HAL BLOOD Then suddenly in front of me was the buck of my dreams! I brought my gun up but only heard screams. My safety was stuck and I could not get it off, And as the buck stood and stared he just seemed to scoff. JOSH CARNEY The safety was stuck and try as I might, I fiddled and fiddled but couldn't get it right. At that moment it seemed that life was not fair, And I succumbed to the fact that I didn't have a prayer.  MICHELLE SCHEUERMANN Then oddly enough he looked at me with a grin, And said with a smile “You'll never win!” I finally got it fixed but was just out of luck, For by the time I was ready out of sight ran the buck. JIM KELLER When the woods settled down I heard a strange noise, Ringing in my head was a sound that usually annoys. Then I awoke to discover it all just a scare, For the buck in my dreams was not even there. DUSTY PHILLIPS I sat up in bed and took a look at the clock, My alarm was sounding loud and I was still full of shock. I gathered my strength and hopped out of bed, Threw on my clothes and buttered my bread. JAY SCOTT AMMANN Out in the forest the bucks were in wait, And going back to sleep would only spell fate. I smiled when I looked at the sky crystal clear, For I'd soon be after the buck I dream't of all year.

Christmastime is here, and to celebrate I've got five Suspense seasonal stories that - in a departure from the usual fare on this podcast - all have happy endings! Eddie Cantor stars in a tale of clerical crime at Christmastime in "Double Entry" (originally aired on CBS on December 22, 1949), and Greer Garson joins a little girl in her long wait in "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" (originally aired on CBS on December 21, 1953). Jack Kruschen plans to rub out a rival gangster with an explosive Christmas gift in "A Present for Benny" (originally aired on CBS on December 13, 1955). A little girl wants a dog for Christmas and gets one in the strangest way possible in "Dog Star" (originally aired on CBS on December 22, 1957), and a soldier gives a buddy a ride to remember in "A Korean Christmas Carol" (originally aired on CBS on December 20, 1959).

Tonight, for this month's Snoozecast+ Deluxe bonus episode, we'll read a selection of classical Christmas poems, starting with “A Visit from St. Nicholas” written by Clement Clarke Moore.  We hope that our Deluxe listeners enjoy tonight's sleep holiday poetry. If you are interested in learning more about what Snoozecast+ and Snoozecast+ Deluxe offer, please go to snoozecast.com/plus  Moore was an American writer, scholar and real estate developer. But he is best known to this day as the author of the poem with the opening line “Twas the Night Before Christmas” that has become "arguably the best-known verses ever written by an American," from its opening line “Twas the Night Before Christmas…”  The poem was initially published anonymously, or rather under a penname, which was customary for poetry at the time, in 1823. As the poem's popularity grew so did curiosity about its author. In response to a query in 1829, a newspaper editor wrote that "We have been given to understand that the author ... belongs by birth and residence to the city of New York, and that he is a gentleman of more merit as a scholar and a writer than many of more noisy pretensions."  Fourteen years after initial publication, the author was revealed. It was his children, for whom he had originally written the piece, that encouraged him to submit it for publication. Snoozecast wishes a happy Christmas to all our listeners, and to all, a good night.  — read by 'N' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus!
