Growing up in the 90s, many of us were unwittingly steeped in a toxic diet culture. From ultra-skinny models gracing the covers of magazines to the relentless promotion of fad diets, hello cabbage soup, Atkins, Slim Fast, etc. The message was clear; thinner is better, and self-worth is tied to appearance. Fast forward to today, and we're now navigating a journey towards self-love and improved body image, unlearning the damaging beliefs of our youth and trying to set up our daughters (and sons) for a more positive and loving body image towards oneself. Here are some of my favorite accounts to follow on Social Media that I talk about in this episode - Allison Marketti, Sadie Nardini, Ashley Turner, Lauren Cadilac ( feelgooddietitian), Same Previte (find.food.freedom), Alex Light (alexlight_Idn), Victoria Browne, Callie Gullickson, Dana Mercer Ricci, Erin from rawbeautytalks, Sarah Nicole Landry (thebirdspapaya), Kylie Kelce (kykelce), Abby Langer (langernutrition) These accounts are very inclusive for everyone and very body positive. In this episode: - Self-Compassion - How to Practice self-compassion. - Speak to yourself with kindness and recognize that self-worth isn't tied to physical appearance. - I use a few affirmations daily. You are worthy, You are kind, You are strong, You are beautiful Even if on some days I am not feeling it or believe it, I always say them. There is scientific research that this can really help rewire our brain and mood. Also mentioned in this episode daily walking meditations. The ones I do are my own and Cassandra Bodzak. This podcast episode was a total surprise for me, and this week I am excited to share the conversation with you all.Sadie's comments on teaching yoga online, marketing, and more are exactly what we've been talking about for the future of our profession in the online arena. Take a listen. Here are our key takeaways: -There is plenty of room for you to build an audience online. There are more students who are looking for a more nurturing experience, which we can build, even online. -We don't need to leverage our challenges and traumas in order to get likes. It is complicated and icky when we use our own challenges to get pity views---and it isn't the way marketing makes us feel good. -You don't need to be committed to the same niche forever. Shifting your content as you age and gain more experience makes total sense. Now don't change every 6 months, but also don't feel stuck doing the same thing forever. -Women don't need to be young in order to be valued, no matter what fitness and wellness IG accounts tell us. -Feedback is critical. It is sometimes hard to hear, but it is worth getting to know your audience so we connect with them and build nourishing content for them. -If you are not in the business of serving and helping people, go get a job that pays you better. Yeah, that times 100. When we are serving our purpose a lot of the things that seem difficult seem easier. -Creativity requires space. We need to build some time in our schedules to be creative, which is one of the best things about working for yourself. Embrace your creativity. Our SponsorSunlight Streams Virtual RetreatResources.Working In Yoga WebsiteRebecca's InstagramWorking In Yoga FREE Professional Development ChallengeJoin the NewsletterThe Connected Yoga Teacher PodcastSadie Nardini's Website
The Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast 306: Is There More Room for Online Yoga? with Sadie Nardini Description: If you have ever had the thought that “everyone is teaching yoga online, why should I add to the mix?” or felt like “someone else has already done what I want to do, why should I even bother”, you are not alone. This week's guest is a powerhouse with a mohawk - and so much more! She's all about owning your creativity, stepping away from the stereotype, and above all else, being true to your authentic self.Sadie Nardini is an absolute force. She's the founder of Core Strength Vinyasa (CSV) Yoga and The Yoga Shred, both of which have brought big, beautiful changes to the contemporary yoga game. She was one of the first yogis to take training to YouTube, currently runs the Fit and Fierce Club, and just when you think she can't get any cooler - she's also the lead singer of her band Sadie & The Tribe. But as audacious and spunky as she is, Sadie is no stranger to the world telling you who you should be. Too many female entrepreneurs have had to experience this, but the beauty lies in the way you fight back. And you can do that by simply showing up to work as yourself. In this week's episode, Sadie gets into the nitty-gritty of how she kick-started her career as a fitness creator, her entry into the yoga scene of New York after moving from Seattle, and the exact moment she chose to embrace herself over what she was expected to be as a yogini. Here's a peek at what else we discuss: Why you aren't answerable to haters, and the importance of putting your voice out there What joyful marketing looks like and how you can make it work for you Sadie's two-hour workday(!!!) and how she keeps her creativity intact How having a lean team can be better than making it all an exhausting one-woman show The power that comes with building an online empire How Sadie navigated her business through the pandemic and came out shining How you can approach social media with creativity and optimism Sadie is as real as it gets, and that's just one of the reasons we had such a blast recording this episode. Her honesty, incredible sense of humor, and the grace with which she carries her truth inspire you to “be the mohawk on the inside”, as she puts it. If you're feeling a little low on the creativity side and want to be jolted into action, you need this episode! So go grab a snack, and listen away.Resources Sadie's Instagram Sadie's Facebook page Links to Sadie's programs This week's Joy: Sadie's current joy (like many of us) is watching the world finally open up!. She's looking forward to traveling to Sweden to make music, take a break from wellness, and to explore something new! This week's Hustle: Sadie's hustle these days is her perspective on digital creation. She urges business owners to refresh their attitude towards building an online presence to “I get to” and not “I have to”. She's all about posting what you're truly passionate about. Quality Each piece of Moxie Malas is hand crafted in the United States using only the highest quality of genuine semi-precious gemstones and crystals. When creating the intentions for the bracelets we look at what kind of support the wearer might need and what combination of stones and crystals would best support that intention. The stones are picked based on their own unique healing energies. Aromatherapy We also believe in the power of combining different healing modalities. Many of our bracelets and malas combine crystal healing and aromatherapy through the use of porous lava stones. Moxie Mala Maven Owner and creator Jessica Hoch has been a yoga teacher for 10 years now and with a degree in Apparel Design Moxie Malas was the perfect love child of the two worlds. What originally started out as gifts for family and friends has blossomed into a collection of meaningful jewelry for the person who wants what they wear to be intentional and a reflection of their journey. “The jewelry combined with the energy of the stones and crystals is the perfect vehicle for the message of self-love, personal power & peace within. We are all on a journey & need to be reminded of how supported & connected we all really are.” ~ Jessica Jessica has been practicing and teaching yoga since 2009. Her journey has taken many different paths since then and has always come back to the yoga mat. What started out as a simple curiosity has transformed into a deep love and respect for the yogic path. What she loves about the practice is that it's unique for each individual. She believes we have so many different roles in life and it's the one place where we can find peace, reground, and feel the strength and ease that exists within. When you take care of yourself on your mat, you are then able to step from your mat and serve others with the best of who you are. Jessica is a 200 E-RYT instructor originally trained at CorePower Yoga in St. Paul, MN with additional trainings and workshops with instructors such as Jules Febre, Sadie Nardini, Johnny Kest and Alexandria Crow. Jessica is now a 500 RYT instructor certified through Devanadi School of Yoga and Wellness. She is also certified in prenatal yoga and loves working with mamas throughout their pregnancy and beyond. A little more about Jessica personally, she is a mother of two beautiful boys, a wife, yogi, gardener, artist and biker chick! She loves to try anything once, meeting new people, and enjoying a day in the garden. She originally started making Malas because of her love for the energy and power behind the stones and crystals and what it does for the person wearing it. It brings her so much joy to create something for someone who is going to feel wonderful wearing it and inspired to meditate because of it. Part 2 of Sheila’s update with a few of our past guests who she connected with at the MindBody BOLD conference in San Diego a couple weeks ago – and in this episode we talk to Sadie Nardini and Cory Sterling. As Sheila mentioned in the last episode, MindBody is one of her favorite “conscious companies” in the world! Sheila uses their software to manage her strength-training studio (www.informfitnessla.com), and for the past 3 years she has attended their BOLD Conference -- and each year it gets better. Last year we were introduced to Sadie Nardini – she was doing a talk about making $6 figures while you sleep. That sounded pretty good to us, so we went to her seminar. We had no idea who Sadie was – and we were delighted to see this Fierce Rock Chick with a Mohawk up there talking about doing her own style of Yoga to “Guns n Roses” -- we were in! Not only was she an amazing teacher, she was so inspiring to help us find our own unique voice. After her one hour of time ended in the conference room, she told everyone to meet her at the pool bar and she continued to show us her social media tricks for at least another hour, while enjoying a glass of Pinot Grigio. What’s not to love! We had the chance to meet her again early this year at a BOLD event in Los Angeles and Sheila invited her to be on the podcast. She graciously said yes, and you can hear our first interview on Episode 26. This year at BOLD we connected again and had the chance to sit down at the same pool bar and talk about what she’s been up to. We also had the chance to catch up with Cory Sterling at BOLD. You might remember him from Episode 31 – he’s the Heart Leading Lawyer who calls his company Conscious Counsel. I actually told Cory about the MindBody BOLD conference – and sure enough, he showed up! He lives in Vancouver – that is, when he’s not traveling around the world! This was our first time meeting in person, and it was such a blast! Cory is an incredibly kind and intelligent person, who also happens to be a kick-ass attorney who leads with love. We ran into each other several times during the conference, and he was often barefoot – it’s so inspiring to see someone living and enjoying the present moment so fully, while also doing his work as an amazing attorney -- and it was great to sit down with him and find out what’s new with Conscious Counsel. http://sadienardini.com/ @sadienardinioffical www.counsciouscounsel.ca @consciouscounsel Check out our Sound Mind & Body YouTube Channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4EanYu-gJYsBydq-i4vz2Q Contact Sheila with what's the most Woo-Woo thing you've ever done to soundmindbodypodcast@gmail.com or visit www.soundmindbodypodcast.com Sound Mind & Body is brought to you in part by Audible. Sheila’s guest is wellness expert Sadie Nardini, a lifelong yogi and anatomy expert who enjoys bringing holistic fitness and fierceness to a massive audience. Sadie is one of the world’s bestselling independent online wellness and fitness course creators. She is the Founder of Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga and Creator of the Yoga Shred, a yoga and HIIT fusion style. As a teen, Sadie's neck was broken in 3 places and she was partially paralyzed for 2 years. Doctors doubted if she would walk again. She fought back for the next decade, working her way into movement that was supposed to be impossible. Instead of investing in a wheelchair as she was encouraged to do by physicians, she invested in yoga, a whole food diet, and mind-centering techniques to create a miracle. Now she teaches others to transform into their most possible selves too -- to "rock who you are" from the ground up, and the inside out. Through experience, Sadie realizes that giving out until you burn out is no longer an option if you want to stay sane, energized and creative. Today she invites you to work smarter, not harder on all levels. Sadie’s main intention is to make fitness, healthy lifestyle, financial success and Self-centering simple, fun, engaging and clear, so you can take charge of designing your own future, starting today. http://sadienardini.com/ Facebook: http://www.Facebook.com/SadieNardiniOfficial YouTube: YouTube.com/SadieNardini The Sound Mind & Body Podcast is brought to you in part, by audible - get a FREE audiobook download and 30-day free trial at www.audibletrial.com/InBound. Yoga instructor Sadie Nardini has built her business on teaching classes online, even while she's sleeping. In this episode of the MINDBODY BOLD Show, Sadie shares her tips about your Facebook ad strategy and how you can make money by virtually teaching.
If I could get a t-shirt made that says “SADIE NARDINI IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL” I would wear it often. And because she has just moved to Southern California (found out the night before this interview) I’m thinking we will have to find some time to get together, karaoke, hit the piano bar in Santa Barbara that we talk about here, and grab some fries from Veggie Grill for the perfect girlfriend date! Sadie has given me a new perspective on yoga that will never be the same and I’m betting the same thing will happen for you once you learn all about her. She is kind, creative, on a mission, fierce, fun, and deeply generous. (She is also a rock and roll star, but if you want to learn more you have to listen in!) Check out today’s amazing podcast of this Warrior Woman, Sadie Nardini!

Welcome to Episode 6 of The Book Love Foundation Podcast! And thank you for joining us in this celebration of teaching and the joy of learning. Subscribe in iTunes Donate to the Book Love Foundation Episode 6 Show notes We re going to talk about leadership in teaching, but maybe not in the way you think. In the words of Sadie Nardini, Becoming a master takes stubbornness, dedication, and focus. And it starts right now. Transformation was, is, and always will be a DIY–a do-it-yourself process. I was struck by how much that mirrors teacher professional development. We can t wait for someone else to develop us–we are in charge of how we grow. Teaching is always a draft–always an approximation–but just like with the young writers we teach, we want each draft to show evidence of revision and improvement. After 31 years of teaching, I m always hoping next year I will be a better teacher–next week, even. As Lolly Daskal, President and CEO of Lead from Within says, Leading is about striving to become better than we are, and helping everything and everyone around us to become better too. And in this episode, we explore what that means for teachers. If you want to know more about the Book Love Foundation, please visit booklovefoundation.org. We are currently reading applications and struggling to decide which classrooms we will fund this year. We could sure use your help. Any contribution will help us. 100% of donations go to teachers we know will put books into kids hands. Thank you for believing how important that work is.
