Far flung humanity, a “winner-takes-all” battle with humans and AI teamed up, yet orchestrated by other AI, and lesbian sex all combine to make for a very interesting novella from Thai author Benjanun Sriduangkaew. Braeden is a fan, Peter was unfamiliar until now, and together they discuss this third installment in The Machine Mandate series.

Being that the episode was coming on 2+ hours in length, and the fact that we could not get both interviews on the show in their entirety, we decided to release both episodes back-to-back in a separate release. This way, you dear listener, can have a chance to engage more with the authors' points themselves. A big thank-you goes out to Benjanun Sriduangkaew and J. Moufawad-Paul for their participation and patience while we got this collaboration underway. That, and much love to Brett and Dave at Rev Left Radio, without whom we would not have been able to do the episode. We hope you enjoy it!
In this very ambitious episode, Shashank and Barry have teamed up with our good friend Brett O'Shea from Revolutionary Left Radio, a political science/philosophy/activist podcast, to talk about the book 'Methods Devour Themselves: A Conversation' co-authored by Benjanun Sriduangkaew and J. Moufawad-Paul. The book itself represents a conversation between Speculative Fiction/Fantasy (SFF), which includes Sci-fi, and political philosophy. The works book to imagine new realities and ideas that emerge from the strange new worlds created by SFF, along with the socio-political themes explored in that genre - something Trek fans are no strangers to. The episode is a conversation between PoliTreks (representing SFF) and Rev Left Radio (political philosophy), where we try to continue that conversation through discussion of the book, lacing in the interviews that Barry and Brett did with the authors. We hope this episode will encourage more discussion with our listeners and encourage everyone to pick up 'Methods Devour Themselves'. It was a great read and will entertain along with incite new ways of looking at how we consume SFF!
Do you like political philosophy? Do you like science fiction and fantasy? Do you like breaking down the artificial cultural and intellectual barriers between the two? Then we have a treat for you! This episode is a totally novel collaboration between our show, PoliTreks (a podcast which combines Trekky Fandom with cultural and political analysis), Benjanun Sriduangkaew and J-Moufawad Paul (co-authors of Methods Devour Themselves). DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK: "Methods Devour Themselves is a dialogue between fiction and non-fiction. Inspired by Quentin Meillassoux's Science Fiction and Extro-Science Fiction that was paired with an Isaac Asimov short story, this book examines the ways in which stories can provoke philosophical interventions and philosophical essays can provoke stories. Alternating between Benjanun Sriduangkaew's fiction and J. Moufawad-Paul's non-fiction, Methods Devour Themselves is an interstitial project that brings fiction and essay into a unique, avant-garde whole."
