The trustees of Stanford University established SRI in 1946 as a center of innovation to support economic development in the region.The organization was founded as the Stanford Research Institute. SRI formally separated from Stanford University in 1970 and became known as SRI International in 1977. SRI performs client-sponsored research and development for government agencies, commercial businesses, and private foundations.Herbert Hoover, then a trustee of Stanford University, was also an early proponent of an institute but became less involved with the project after he was elected president of the United States.In April 1953, Walt and Roy Disney hired SRI (and in particular, Harrison Price) to consult on their proposal for establishing an amusement park in Burbank, California. Sección en el programa El Remate de la Diez Capital radio con nuestro abogado particular, Juan Inurria. Ana Oramas dijo al representante de Vox, la semana pasada en el Parlamento Canario, que Abascal no viene a mandar en Canarias. Pero la pregunta sigue ahí: si Canarias no debe obedecer a Abascal, Sra. Oramas ¿por qué tendría que soportar sin rechistar las decisiones de Sánchez en materia migratoria, entre otros barcos? Ana Oramas tuvo la semana pasada su momento de gloria parlamentario que echábamos de menos. Desde la tribuna, y mirando al diputado de Vox, le espeto que si no le gusta esta Canarias se mande a mudar. Brutal, un bien queda de manual. Y dicho por Ani –con cariño, lo de Ani- esa política que tanto gusta a mi madre, que hasta piensa que es la presidenta de Canarias. Y es que me calza 84 años. Muy bien, diputada canaria, pero es que lo que está pasando no debe medirse por aplausos. Que los mismos que le aplauden no entienden que ha pasado con esa Canarias que parece representar Oramas. Y es que resulta curioso que Oramas se pone firme contra Abascal, pero su partido ha sostenido políticamente a Sánchez, bajo cuyo Gobierno Canarias sigue soportando una presión migratoria que se decide en Madrid, se gestiona en Bruselas y se padece aquí, por no hablar del barco y el ratón. Y es que siendo sensatos y serios, lo que aquí vengo a escribir y opinar es que no se trata de comprar el discurso de Vox. Se trata de algo más sencillo y es que, Sra Oramas, Canarias no puede ser el lugar donde todos deciden y los canarios aguantan y obedecen al imperio. Pero no deja de tener razón en que Canarias fue tierra de emigrantes, antes y ahora. ¿O no son emigrantes nuestros jóvenes que se marchan porque aquí no pueden? Pero me voy a centrar en el discurso que solo hablaba del pasado, es verdad, muchos canarios salieron de aquí porque no había pan suficiente, y se marcharon a Venezuela, Cuba, Argentina, Uruguay, a donde hiciera falta. Aunque soy de los que piensa que ese argumento no debería ser un cheque en blanco ni anestesia ante las evidencias diarias. Es tan sencillo para mirar un poco en los libros de historia reciente y vera que el canario que emigró no fue a exigir privilegios. Fue a trabajar, a integrarse, a empezar desde abajo con la boca cerrada y los pies en el suelo. No constituyó guetos ni se colocó por delante de nadie. Por eso, recordar que fuimos emigrantes no obliga a aceptar sin crítica una política migratoria que no tiene de humana más que el discurso. Una cosa es la acogida. Otra es que Madrid presuma de humanidad mientras Canarias pone los muelles, los centros saturados y la factura, por nombrar solo tres. Vox llevó al Parlamento canario su propuesta de prioridad nacional. Y viniendo de Vox sea lo que sea se rechaza, eso lo tienen en el manual el resto de partidos políticos. Se puede rechazar. Se puede criticar. Lo que no se debería de hacer es usar ese debate para tapar lo que cada vez más está en la calle. Y es que muchos canarios sienten que están quedando los últimos en su propia tierra. Y cuando una parte de la población canaria tiene esa sensación, la política debería escuchar a su gente, a mi gente, como cantaría Pepe Benavente. Y se llena la boca la propia interviniente, en el parlamento. Mi gente. Pues Ani, tu gente lo está pasando canutas. En Roma también se hablaba mucho de la República mientras el poder real lo ejercía César. Aquí pasa algo parecido. Se levanta la voz contra Abascal y se baja el tono cuando quien manda es Sánchez. Se defiende la dignidad canaria cuando el adversario es Vox, pero la cosa se vuelve más prudente cuando la responsabilidad apunta a Sánchez. Los mismos que han convertido la inmigración en un sermón permanente se preguntan después por qué crecen los partidos ultras. Crecen porque a mucha gente se le ha negado el derecho a preguntar. Crecen porque cuando alguien plantea dudas sobre seguridad, vivienda, servicios o menores, se le responde con una etiqueta moral antes de que termine la frase. La gente no se rebela contra ayudar. Se rebela contra ser tomada por idiota o pollaboba como dije la semana pasada. Si la nación de Oramas es Canarias, como ella misma dijo, entonces Canarias debe ser defendida siempre. No solo frente a Vox. También frente a Sánchez. Y sobre todo frente a cualquiera que pretenda decidir desde lejos lo que aquí se soporta de cerca. Salgan a la calle y escuchen, por el bien de Canarias. El nacionalismo canario no debe ser una pose. No debe ponerse firme contra Abascal y quedarse cómodo ante Sánchez. No puede usar la bandera para el aplauso y olvidarla cuando toca exigir cuentas. Digo yo. Que no soy nadie. Canarias debe ser solidaria, pero no sumisa. Debe acoger con humanidad, pero exigir gestión, recursos y respeto a quienes viven aquí. Porque cuando el canario acaba siendo el último en Canarias, algo se está haciendo muy mal. Y lo saben. Y cuando la política institucional no se atreve a decirlo, la calle termina buscando a quien lo diga peor, más alto y sin matices. Ni tierra de odio. Ni territorio de obediencia. La solidaridad sin gestión es propaganda para ser aplaudida un fisco. La acogida sin recursos es abandono, como pasa. Y el nacionalismo que solo se indigna contra Abascal, pero se acomoda ante Sánchez, no defiende Canarias: administra su indignación según convenga. Y eso, no es bueno. A Canarias, hay que defenderla, también de esos aplausos.

The SRA has launched a consultation on changes to its continuing competence regime, driven by the Legal Services Board's push for a stronger culture of professional ethics across the profession. In this recording, Partners Nick and Andrew discuss what the proposals could mean in practice. In particular, they discuss: • A proposed requirement for solicitors to record and retain evidence of their learning and development for at least three years, moving away from self-certification • The proposed introduction of a minimum of three hours of professional ethics training, focused on interactive, scenario-based discussion rather than passive learning • Practical challenges for firms arising from the proposals, including how larger firms could deal with the requirement to deliver training in small groups and tailoring content to real-world ethical dilemmas • The proposed new powers for the SRA to mandate targeted training in particular sectors or risk areas, with potential enforcement action taken against those who fail to do it • The wider direction of travel - a shift towards embedding ethical decision-making and evidencing competence in practice, not just technical knowledge The consultation is open until 15 July 2026.
