Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

"I took small snippets of the Imlil waterfall in Atlas Mountains recording to make digital noise and then composed a digital waterfall around them as they fire off at random. Waterfalls are natural wonders and they are beautiful to witness. They make an incredible noise which out of context (without the wonderful visual) can feel rather unnatural and undesirable. We are heading to - if not already in - very digital times. I wanted to create a digital cascade that surrounds and almost traps the listener. The only way out is to follow the melody of the guitar."Waterfall in Imlil, Morocco reimagined by Wanted Sound.

Alpha Warrior and Josh Reid finally get to take a victory lap. The leaked Trump and Netanyahu phone call dropped this week, the one where Trump reportedly told Bibi he would be in jail if it weren't for him, and even Mark Levin confirmed the leak was real. Josh argues the White House leaked it themselves as a strategic move, and the entire save Israel for last thesis Alpha and Josh have been pushing for over a year just got vindicated in public. From there the guys unpack Chevron's grip on Israeli oil infrastructure, why Trump fired Rick Grenell for trying to renegotiate the Chevron deal in Venezuela, the Israel to Gaza pipeline play, the six hundred billion dollar defense pacts that make Gaza essentially untouchable, and why Megyn Kelly went on Sean Ryan in full doom mode this week. The deep state operatives got caught flat footed and the unified messaging took hours to spin up. Plus Bill Pulte rug pulling Tom Cotton for DNI and the genius double hat strategy that gives Pulte mortgage fraud and intelligence community access simultaneously, the Iranian decentralized ELF command structure, the Q plus comms cascade with double posted patriots are in control memes, and Scavino's every journey has an end tied to Ender's Game.

Portland Public Schools threw itself a party last week to celebrate breaking ground on the new $460 million dollar Jefferson High School. And The Oregonian dutifully repeated the talking point that the building would be “all electric powered.” Sounds impressive… until you look at the details.Because PPS quietly admitted—right before the ceremony—that the school won't be all electric. Science labs still need natural gas for Bunsen burners. State law still requires diesel backup generators. And the other two high school rebuilds, Cleveland and Ida B. Wells, are in the same boat. So the “all electric” label is more marketing than engineering. But even if PPS could pull it off, it wouldn't change emissions. More than half the natural gas used in Oregon is burned to make electricity. So removing gas lines from the school just means the same gas gets burned somewhere else. Meanwhile, wind and solar provided only about eleven percent of Oregon's electricity last year. Fossil fuels provided at least thirty eight percent. The grid isn't magic. What is real is the cost. PPS's own consultant warned that all electric construction would add at least ten million dollars per school. And when Cascade asked the district for documentation on those added costs, PPS gave us nothing.New York's governor just backed away from its own climate mandate after projecting thousands of dollars in new annual energy costs per family. That's the future PPS is pretending not to see. It's not too late for the board to stop chasing slogans and redirect thirty million dollars toward improvements that actually help students. For Cascade Policy Institute, I'm Naomi Inman.Read more at www.cascadepolicy.org

In this episode, Brian sits down with author and researcher Norman Solie for the first half of their conversation, focused entirely on the encounters and experiences that pulled Norman into the world of Sasquatch research.Norman traces his fascination back to childhood, when he first saw the Patterson-Gimlin film while growing up in Washington. That early impression stayed with him, but it was a solo backpacking trip in 1980 to a remote lake in the Cascade Mountains that would leave him with questions he could not easily dismiss.During that trip, Norman heard a chilling wail in the night, discovered a large muddy footprint near his tent, and was overcome by an urgent, unexplainable feeling that he needed to leave immediately. As he made his way out, the sound of breaking branches behind him only deepened the mystery. After stepping away from the subject in the mid-1980s, Norman's interest was reignited years later during a 2006 retreat in Illinois, where he witnessed a small, black, fuzzy-edged figure watching people from a distance. What first seemed strange and difficult to explain would later lead him to consider the possibility that he had seen a juvenile Sasquatch.Norman also shares a series of unusual experiences from Alaska and Massachusetts, including the feeling of being watched, possible structures, tracks, scat, tree breaks, strange vocalizations, possible eye shine, and unexplained knocks both near his home and along trails around his remote cabin. This is Part 1 of Brian's conversation with Norman Solie, centered on Norman's personal encounters and field experiences. Part 2 airs this Sunday and will focus on Norman's book, Before Patty Volume One: Patrick The Sasquatch/Human Hybrid & Our Genetic Inheritance. Revisiting the God-fearer Thesis in the Development of Early Christianity (T&T Clark, 2025) examines in depth the theory, evidence, and trail of scholarly work on god-fearers. Thomas A. Robinson argues for substantial revisions in the depiction of the god-fearer phenomenon, the story of early Christianity and its engagement with both Jews and with the larger Greco-Roman population. Robinson provides a thorough analysis of the god-fearer theory, examining scholarly debate and primary literary and inscriptional materials put forward as evidence for the god-fearer theory. Robinson begins with an exploration of the god-fearing community, its definition, or lack thereof, and its role as a bridge to Christianity in the Greco-Roman world. He then examines the key features of god-fearers, and the scholarly appeal to circumcision as the primary barrier preventing god-fearer conversion to Judaism. The volume concludes with an exploration of Luke's Acts and its readers and a thorough investigation of inscriptional and literary evidence supporting god-fearer theory. Thomas A. Robinson holds a PhD in Religious Studies from McMaster University, having majored in Judaism and Christianity in the Greco-Roman Era and minored in Indian Philosophy. He has taught world religions courses for over thirty years and has published several books on early and modern Christianity, co-authored a world religions text, and developed books and software for New Testament Greek. Among his other publications on early Christianity, he has authored Ignatius of Antioch and the Parting of the Ways: Early-Jewish Christian Relations (Hendrickson, 2009) and Who Were the First Christians? Dismanting the Urban Thesis (Oxford University Press, 2017). Jonathon Lookadoo is Associate Professor at the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea. While his interests range widely over the world of early Christianity, he is the author of books on the Epistle of Barnabas, Ignatius of Antioch, and the Shepherd of Hermas, including The Christology of Ignatius of Antioch (Cascade, 2023). All through the summer of 1973, there was one song on the radio everywhere that you just couldn't get away from: Jim Croce's smash hit, “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.” Come to think of it, it's been very difficult to get away from that song ever since Croce wrote it. You probably are humming it to yourself right now: “Bad, bad Leroy Brown, baddest man in the whole damn town. Badder than old King Kong, meaner than a junkyard dog.” The little Cascade-foothills town of Boring once had its own Bad, Bad Leroy Brown — although when the song came out, very few people then alive were old enough to remember him. His name was Free Coldwell — or at least, that was what he called himself. Like Leroy Brown, he a proud, strutting tough guy who got a humiliating comeuppance. But his downfall didn't come from making a pass at “the wife of a jealous man” in a Boring nightclub or bar. No; Free Coldwell was taken down by the citizens of Boring, who basically played an elaborate practical joke on him — with the help of a professional prizefighter. (Boring, Clackamas County; 1900s) (For text and pictures, see https://offbeatoregon.com/21-05.bad-bad-free-coldwell-baddest-boxer-in-boring.html)

Metro is rolling out new strategies and transit plans in what looks more and more like a war on cars — and Cascade is calling out the baseless evidence they've leaned on for thirty five years. At an April council meeting, Cascade President John Charles delivered pointed testimony against two major actions designed to prioritize transit while punishing people who rely on their cars.At that meeting, Metro approved its Transportation Demand Management Strategy and pushed forward the gridlocking 82nd Avenue Transit Project — a plan that would dedicate miles of existing car lanes to buses only.Charles reminded councilors that Metro has been trying to engineer travel behavior since the early nineties, yet reductions in vehicle miles traveled have never materialized. Metro's own performance measures show the 30 year goals weren't met, so instead of rethinking the strategy, they stretched the timeline to 45 years and kept building plans on the same fantasy metrics. As Charles emphasized, driving isn't a luxury — it's a necessity. It's central to employment, wage growth, childcare, and basic mobility. Yet Metro keeps doubling down on failed strategies that make driving harder and daily life more expensive. After decades of missed targets, the region deserves transportation investments grounded in reality, not wishful thinking — investments that actually improve mobility and economic opportunity for real people. For Cascade Policy Institute, I'm Naomi Inman.Read the full story at Cascade Questions Evidence Behind Metro's War on Cars - Cascade Policy Institute

The contentious life and times of the most widely cited book of the New Testament. Written some two thousand years ago, the Gospel of John is the only Christian Gospel to place Jesus at the creation of the world, and the only one where we find the stories of the raising of Lazarus, the woman taken in adultery, and the changing of water into wine at the wedding in Cana. The Gospel of John also points an accusing finger at Jesus's Jewish opponents and has been used by medieval crusaders, Protestant reformers, and white supremacists to legitimize antisemitic violence. In The Gospel of John: A Biography (Princeton UP, 2026) Kim Haines-Eitzen traces the legacy of this complex, beautiful, and at times deeply troubling work, from its composition in the late first century to its enduring power today. Haines-Eitzen sheds light on the book's reception by early Christian gnostic and patristic commentators, its use in the Crusades and Reformation, its revered status among American evangelicals, and the many ways it has inspired novels, films, music, and art. The earliest papyrus fragment of an identifiably Christian Gospel is a fragment of John, and John is the only canonical Gospel that depicts Jesus as a savior who teaches openly about his divinity. Haines-Eitzen shows how John simultaneously carries a message of inclusion and intolerance, and how its story teaches us about the nature and enormous influence of scriptural religions. Compelling and provocative, The Gospel of John reveals how this dynamic, malleable biblical work has both unified and divided Christians over centuries of translation, interpretation, and creative reimagining. Kim Haines-Eitzen (Ph.D., University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, 1997) is a Professor of Ancient Mediterranean Religions with a specialty in Early Christianity, Early Judaism, and Religion in Late Antiquity in the Department of Near Eastern Studies. Her most recent book is Sonorous Desert: What Deep Listening Taught Early Christian Monks and What It Can Teach Us (Princeton University Press, 2022), a project that traces how desert sounds shaped early Christian monasticism and includes field recordings she has made in desert environments. She is the author of Guardians of Letters: Literacy, Power and the Transmitters of Early Christian Literature (Oxford University Press, 2000), a social history of the scribes who copied Christian texts during the second and third centuries; and The Gendered Palimpsest: Women, Writing, and Representation in Early Christianity, which deals with the intersection of gender and text transmission (Oxford University Press, 2012). She is a member of the programs in Religious Studies, Jewish Studies, Medieval Studies, and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Cornell. Can Naftali Bennett defeat Netanyahu? Inside the Israeli opposition's big gamble

War-weary Israelis have clearly tired of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership, but it is still uncertain as to whether opposition forces will be able to put aside their wide ideological differences to defeat him in the October election, Dr. Dahlia Scheindlin told the Haaretz Podcast. Scheindlin, a veteran political analyst and strategist, said the recent announcement that Netanyahu challenger and former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will join with Yair Lapid – also a former prime minister – is a harbinger of an opposition seeking to run in a united bloc. What is unclear is whether this push for a united opposition is “an extremely sophisticated political strategy based on mathematical calculations, or it's absolutely an arbitrary guess – a finger in the wind.” Lapid and Bennett are joining forces despite the fact that Bennett’s right-wing pro-occupation positions are firmly in line with Netanyahu’s, “minus the corruption and populism,” said Scheindlin, while Lapid supports a two-state solution. Asked if this election is indeed as fateful as it is being framed, Scheindlin replied that in her experience, every election in Israel’s history is expected to “change the course of the country. And every time it was true.” The difference is, she said, that even if Netanyahu is defeated, “Israel has gone so far in the direction of an undemocratic transformation and becoming a permanent expansionist, occupying undemocratic state – it will be much harder to turn the clock back.” Read more: Explained | What to Know About Israel's 2026 Election Analysis by Dahlia Scheindlin | The Problem With Naftali Bennett Far-right Minister Smotrich Says Forming Government With Arab Party Chairman 'Worse Than October 7' Top Israeli Elections Official Resigns, Risking Electoral Integrity Despite the Cascade of Crises, Israeli Politics Remains Stuck Analysis by Dahila Scheindlin | Israel's Biggest Existential Threat Isn't IranSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Polypharmacy is one of the most common—and often overlooked—challenges in modern healthcare, especially in older adults. It's not just about the number of medications a patient is taking, but whether each one still has a clear indication, is providing benefit, and isn't causing harm. As medication lists grow, so does the risk of adverse effects, drug interactions, and something we see all the time in practice: the prescribing cascade. A prescribing cascade happens when a medication causes a side effect that is misinterpreted as a new medical condition, leading to the addition of another drug. Over time, this can snowball into unnecessary complexity and increased risk for patients. In part 2 of this podcast, we outline 5 more examples that I’ve encountered in my geriatric pharmacist practice. Feliks Banel's guest on this BONUS EPISODE of CASCADE OF HISTORY is Barbara Swift of Gas Works Park Alliance with an update on the demolition currently underway at historic Gas Works Park in Seattle, and ongoing frustration with documents prepared by Seattle Parks and Recreation. Demolition began on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 with a ladder and cage being removed from one of the west towers just before 8:00am. Work has continued for two days, and the structures - the "cracking towers" - are noticeably different in appearance. Meanwhile, Barbara Swift of the Gas Works Park Alliance is trying to determine if the documents prepared by Seattle Parks and Recreation were adequate for the complexity of the demolition project. Jeremy spent two tours in Iraq and came home carrying things he couldn't name. In October 2006, he went alone into the deep backcountry of the Washington Cascades for a week-long solo elk hunt, hoping the wilderness would do what it had always done for him. It didn't.Something else was in that drainage, and it had been aware of him long before he was aware of it.This is one of the most carefully told accounts we've received at Backwoods Bigfoot Stories. Jeremy is a veteran, a lifelong hunter, and a man who spent nearly twenty years deciding whether to say any of this out loud. He describes strange resonant knocking that didn't always sound like it came from a surface. Depressions in soft ground that stopped him cold.A food hang disturbed in a way that didn't match any bear behavior he'd ever seen. And then, on the fifth night, three of them surrounding his camp in the dark, with eyes that weren't reflecting light so much as generating it. One of them stepped out into the clearing and let him see it. That was enough. He broke camp before first light and walked ten miles out in the dark. He's never told his wife. He's never told anyone. The experience lives in the same interior room as the things he brought back from the war, and he's kept that room closed for a long time. He opened it here.I f something has been sitting with you, you know where to reach us. brian@paranormalworldproductions.comEmail BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter? Polypharmacy isn't just about medication count—it's about cumulative risk and unintended consequences. One of the biggest drivers is the prescribing cascade, where a drug side effect is mistaken for a new condition, and another medication gets added instead of addressing the root cause. You see this all the time in practice. A patient starts amlodipine and develops edema, then gets placed on furosemide. Or donepezil leads to urinary symptoms, and oxybutynin is added—potentially worsening cognition. These patterns add risk quickly. In this episode, I’ll break down common examples that I have recently encountered in practice. Be sure to check out our free Top 200 study guide – a 31 page PDF that is yours for FREE! On this BONUS EPISODE of CASCADE OF HISTORY, Feliks Banel digs into the audio archives for his interview from October 28, 2020 with Kathi Rennaker, spokesperson for Tacoma-based Brown & Haley, longtime local makers of Almond Roca and Mountain Bars. On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Seattle Times reported that Brown and Haley has officially merged with its “longtime import and distribution partner in China,” an entity known as BHM Group LTD. The Times also reported, “That company's leader, Sam Meng, has been named Brown & Haley's new CEO.” In this interview from 2020, Ms. Rennaker, who, according to the Times' story, has been named Chief Operating Officer of the merged companies, goes into detail about the origins and history of the Mountain Bar, which had a few different names early on, and which remains popular in an era when many regional candy bars have gone away. She also lets us in on the unique distribution method she was planning to use on Halloween of that pandemic year to get Mountain Bars into the hands of the trick-or-treaters she expected to visit her house. Fasting For Life
Ep. 326 - Time-Restricted Eating Without Calorie Counting Lowers Blood Pressure | 6-10 Hour Windows | Preventing Medication Cascade | 12-Week Metabolic Shifts | Root Cause Therapy | New Fasting Persona Quiz!

Fasting For Life

In this medication-prevention focused episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling analyze a late-2025 systematic review from Frontiers in Nutrition examining how simple time-restricted eating without any calorie counting significantly improves blood pressure and cardiometabolic markers in non-diabetic adults. They reveal that participants using 6-10 hour eating windows experienced drops in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, fasting glucose, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, BMI, and triglycerides—all without tracking a single calorie or changing food choices—challenging the eat-less-move-more paradigm that fails 95% of dieters long-term. The hosts explain why blood pressure and cholesterol medications are typically the first dominoes to fall in the medication cascade, and how this study demonstrates that compartmentalizing eating times creates deliberate decreases in insulin levels across the day, making it harder for your body to guard long-term fat stores. They break down critical timing insights showing that metabolic benefits truly kick in at the 12-week consistency mark, with weight loss predicting blood pressure improvements more than duration alone, while emphasizing that even a modest eating window serves as foundational root-cause therapy that can help listeners avoid dependence on the medical system and medication cascade that dominates American healthcare. Take the NEW FASTING PERSONA QUIZ! - The Key to Unlocking Sustainable Weight Loss With Fasting! Resources and Downloads: SIGN UP FOR THE DROP OF THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO BLOOD SUGAR CONTROL GRAB THE OPTIMAL RANGES FOR LAB WORK HERE! - NEW RESOURCE! FREE RESOURCE - DOWNLOAD THE NEW BLUEPRINT TO FASTING FOR FAT LOSS! SLEEP GUIDE DIRECT DOWNLOAD DOWNLOAD THE FASTING TRANSFORMATION JOURNAL HERE! Partner Links: Get your FREE BOX OF LMNT hydration support for the perfect electrolyte balance for your fasting lifestyle with your first purchase here! Get 25% off a Keto-Mojo blood glucose and ketone monitor (discount shown at checkout)! Click here! Our Community: Let's continue the conversation.
