On the 164th episode of Piecing It Together, I'm joined again by David Quinones from Bird Road Podcast to talk about Regina King's directorial debut, One Night In Miami. Set in a hotel room where a fictionalized meeting between real life friends Cassius Clay, Malcolm X, Jim Brown and Sam Cooke takes place, One Night In Miami features four powerhouse performances in a very play-like film. Puzzle pieces include Frost/Nixon, Malcolm X, Ali and Loving.
On this special cross-over episode, I'm joined by David Quinones for a conversation we had on our Bird Road Podcast about the fascinating 2020 film, Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets. Filmed to look like the closing day in the life of a Las Vegas bar and its regulars (but actually a scripted narrative film), Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets provided us the perfect opportunity to reminisce on our 20s when we spent nearly every night in bars like this. We also get into a bunch of puzzle pieces including Cinema Verite, Another Round, Last Night at the Alamo and Anomalisa.

Hello everyone!! Tonight we have have the pleasure of talking with the host of 'Piecing It Together' David Rosen. Piecing It Together is a podcast where we take a look at a new movie and try to figure out what other movies may have inspired it.Created by award-winning music composer and film lover David Rosen, the show started as a way for David to talk movies with his friends. Rather than just do a regular movie news or review show, he wanted some kind of angle to approach discussing films from, and when he realized he usually describes a film as x meets x meets x meets x… He was already on his way to forming the theme of the show. Rather than have a constant co-host, he opted to have a revolving cast of co-hosts to keep things fresh and exciting, and also because he has a lot of people he loves talking movies with! Over time he hopes to continue expanding to have more co-hosts, we well as episodes with multiple co-hosts. For now, he just wants to keep talking movies and keep making episodes while continuing to make Piecing It Together bigger and better. David Rosen is also co-host of the Bird Road Podcast with his best friend.

On the 23rd episode of Piecing It Together, returning co-host David Quinones and I actually do our first ever cross-over episode with our other show Bird Road Podcast by covering the politically charged Sorry To Bother You. The story centers on a man in an alternate near future (played by Atlanta's Lakeith Stanfield) who discovers he has a special gift that will lead to a fast rise up the corporate ladder at his telemarketing job. As his career begins to take off, his friends begin to organize a protest against the corporation, and the anti-capitalism messages mix with plenty of weird dystopian imagery in this wild movie from first time writer/director Boots Riley. Puzzle pieces include the work of Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry, Office Space, They Live and Dope.
On the 12th episode of Piecing It Together, we're back with a break from giant superhero movies to focus on a more personal story featuring heartfelt themes and moving drama... Just kidding, we're talking about Deadpool 2, the raunchy, violent, bloody action-comedy superhero sequel starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with the mouth and a great expanded cast featuring Josh Brolin, TJ Miller, and Zazie Beetz. After the first Deadpool came out of nowhere and set all kinds of records, this sequel had a lot to live up to, and we get deep into whether or not it did the series justice. Puzzle pieces include Shoot Em' Up, Spaceballs, Terminator 2 and Problem Child. As always, SPOILER ALERT for Deadpool 2! https://www.foxmovies.com/movies/deadpool-2 David Quinones is a writer, reporter, podcaster and my best friend.
