Does the IEEPA allow the president to impose tariffs? Wetherell says yes. “IEEPA grants the President broad economic powers to deal with ‘any unusual and extraordinary [foreign] threat … to the national security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States' on which a national emergency has been declared.” Wetherell spells out the historical legal cases in his order, which lead him to say, “IEEPA is a ‘law … providing for … tariffs.'” Source: thefederalist.com nowhere! This week on The Tracklist, we're diving into Piece By Piece — the visionary new film about the one and only Pharrell Williams. From beat-making to boundary-breaking, this doc is a sonic journey through the mind of a musical icon.
Today on the Good Music Show - we make another drastic format change to discuss a "Good" Music Movie! Brick by Br...err I mean Piece by Piece is a LEGO animated documentary about the life and career of PHARRELL WILLIAMS. Directed by Morgan Neville, and starring several artists who've worked with Pharrell, we dissect the central question surrounding this movie: why?Joining us is LEGO film expert Danny Vincent, who also happens to host a few great podcasts as well. Danny V guides us through the film's journey, and we ask the hard hitting questions that everyone wants to know. Is Kelis mentioned? Do they show the hat? How much do they reveal about Williams' relationship to Chad Hugo? All of that plus extremely dated discussions of our Super Bowl predictions, Grammy's recap, and thoughts on the Lilo and Stitch teaser (not the trailer which has since come out).Link to Piece by Piece Soundtrack PlaylistPlease check out Danny Vincent's podcasts at the links below:Looking for the Ocean: A Pixar Journey: a podcast about everything Pixar with episodes featuring Danny and Julius! It Happened One Podcast: a podcast about relationships in movies! The Snub Club: a podcast about film history!Danny's Letterboxd Page: chock full of a ton of great reviews!Send us a text message! You can follow us here: Instagram Twitter Tiktok Send us a message, we'd love to hear from you! We've been waiting for this one since the beginning! Your co-hosts are all obsessive about the Scream franchise (the original trilogy, at least), and Scream 2 is the earliest chapter in Sidney's saga we can cover, since the original never went to number one. Will our obsessions propel Scream 2 to the very top of our all-time rankings? This week's recommendations: Kahmeela likes PIECE BY PIECE, Sean likes the 1946 BEAUTY AND THE BEST and Robin recommends watching the Oscar shorts, but not at all at the same time.

Mosaics are defined as a picture or pattern produced by arranging together small colored pieces of hard material, such as stone, tile, or glass, resulting in the creation of something often ornate and beautiful. Sometimes, mosaics tell the story of what was, what is, or what can be…. Each mosaic is uniquely different and yet shares a common history - simply created from something else. As I was putting together this podcast episode, I couldn't help but think about our lives that resemble mosaics in that we set out to create a plan or pattern that is predictable, or so we'd like to think, like a ceramic, glass or stone object, when in actuality, it can often be quite different. Sometimes our life plan is shattered, and it takes strength, energy, and determination to keep moving forward to put the pieces back together to form a new life plan; each time we experience this manifesting into a new life plan, we build our resilience and become perhaps more strategic or smarter in putting pieces together, and sometimes, the circumstances make it harder than we could ever have anticipated… such circumstances are poverty and homelessness. Piece by Piece is an employment-related social enterprise designed to support individuals who have experienced homelessness or economic insecurity. Participants create mosaic art, as well as small-scale housewares and large commissioned pieces, and by doing that, earn income and master soft skills while beautifying Los Angeles; one of their mantras is: Recycled Art for a New Cycle of Life. Please check out their website: www.piecebypiece.org Their new address is: 6417 South Main Street, Los Angeles, CA. 90003

My earliest awareness of Pharrell Williams' music came circa 2004, but in the most obscure way possible. Despite producing some of my favorite tracks from the likes of Usher, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, and No Doubt, Pharrell, along with his production team The Neptunes, wasn't the name I had attached to these zeitgeisty songs.
This week's Empire Podcast isn't so much jam-packed as marmaladen with great guests, as Chris Hewitt talks to Paddington In Peru stars Hugh Bonneville and Emily Mortimer (the new Mrs. Brown) about tarantulas, Paddington tantrums, and shooting in the wilds of Basingstoke [20:47 - 35:27 approx]; the great British director Andrea Arnold about her new film, Bird, working with non-actors, and shooting in Gravesend [51:56 - 1:07:39 approx]; and Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer, in an extended excerpt from our spoiler special interview, about [SPOILER], [BIGGER SPOILER] and shooting in [SPOILER]. Listen to that one only once you've seen Agatha All Along, naturally. [1:34:29 - 1:50:10 approx] Then, Chris is joined in the podbooth by Helen O'Hara, James Dyer, and Alex Godfrey for a merry old show in which they break down their viewing habits, discuss the week's movie news (and yes, this was recorded before the news broke about Simon Kinberg writing a new Star Wars trilogy; we'll discuss that next week), and review Paddington In Peru, Blitz, Bird, Piece By Piece, and Red One. Orange you glad you picked this episode? Enjoy.

We're kinda scattered all over the place this week, but we'll always come back to you here at Breakfast All Day. Between Christy's jury duty and travel for both of us, we tried to squeeze in as many reviews as we could. And they're super random! First, our good friend Bibbs returns to help Christy with a review of "Smile 2," the sequel to the 2022 horror hit "Smile." Naomi Scott is tremendous as a pop star possessed by the evil smiley-face spirit, just as she's about to launch a world tour. Not exactly the era you want to revisit. In theaters. Then, Alonso and Christy discuss one of the year's best films, Sean Baker's "Anora," winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Mikey Madison gives a star-making performance as the titular stripper, who gets swept up in a whirlwind romance with the impetuous son of a Russian oligarch. We loved it. In limited release now before going wider in November. Finally, we catch up with "Piece by Piece," the LEGO animated documentary about prolific producer/singer/songwriter Pharrell Williams. We loved this one, too. Beyond the impossible cuteness of seeing LEGO Snoop Dogg and Gwen Stefani, we were impressed with the clever details and surprising emotion. In theaters. And for our Patreon friends, we have recaps of "The Penguin" (featuring a knockout Cristin Milioti performance) and episodes 5 and 6 of "Heartstopper" season 3. We'll catch up with "Only Murders in the Building" and "Agatha All Along" when we're both back in town early next week. Thanks for your patience and support! Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter for goodies you won't find anywhere else: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/ Join us in person at The Frida Cinema in Santa Ana, where we're hosting a screening of John Carpenter's 1980 horror classic "The Fog." Mark your calendar for Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2pm, then stick around afterward and watch us record a podcast review of the film. Tickets are available here. We hope to see you! https://thefridacinema.org/movies/the-fog-presented-by-breakfast-all-day/

Pharrell Williams' new biopic Piece by Piece was just released - and it got me thinking that there are three MASSIVE lessons learned that I needed to tackle some serious convention-breaking norms in a very fun and colorful way. I can't wait for you to hear this one. I've been really experimenting with new formats and sharing some big confessions of why this has been so hard and why I think it might be harder than it needs to be for you, too.Notable Timestamps:[00:01:44] Cultural deep dive on innovation.[00:07:22] Synesthesia and creativity in music.[00:09:00] Feeling different as a child.[00:15:12] Outgrowing your emotional container.[00:20:51] Shifting podcast format and focus.[00:24:57] Curiosity as a key trait.[00:27:27] The burden of being a fixer.[00:30:41] Break up with hard.[00:38:49] Creative experimentation for personal growth.Resources mentioned:Piece by Piece Official Trailer (big thank you for the audio clips)Get your free Reinvention Roadmap delivered weekly to your inboxBook a free 1:1 reinvention strategy call with meDownload your free energy guide (BOOM!) Pharrell Williams is—well, let me just say, he's a big reason why Song Exploder exists. He's a singer, songwriter and producer, and in the 90s, when I first heard the work that he was doing with the Neptunes, which was his production duo with Chad Hugo, it blew my mind. It made me want to know where those sounds came from and where those ideas came from. Pharrell has won 13 Grammys. He's been nominated for two Oscars. He's produced iconic songs for Kendrick Lamar, Britney Spears, Clipse, Gwen Stefani, and so many others. And on his own, he's made songs like “Happy,” the giant hit for Despicable Me that was the best-selling song of 2014. And now, there's a movie about his life called Piece by Piece. But it's an animated Lego film. For this episode, I talked to Pharrell about the title song from Piece By Piece. So, coming up, you'll hear how Pharrell built that song, including a first draft that never saw the light of day. You'll hear how he built “Piece by Piece” by programming it, on his own, with MIDI instruments, and then adding and replacing those parts with other musicians, including the high school marching band that he used to play in. This week, David is still absent, so Katey, Patches, and Da7e talk about superhero TV with Penguin on Max and Agatha All Along on Disney Plus, then Patches wonders if we have to endorse an American political candidate before Katey and Da7e break down the surprising and kind of beautiful(?) Pharrell documentary in Lego: Piece […]

Nick welcomes film critics Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy to the podcast to discuss the box office failure of the new *Joker* movie and review several new films, including *Piece By Piece*, the dreadful horror sequel *Terrifier 3*, and *The Apprentice*, a film starring Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump in New York. Then, Esmeralda Leon joins Nick to chat about the beauty of never making weekend plans and reflect on pop culture that has aged very poorly, such as Long Duk Dong from *Sixteen Candles*, *The Cosby Show*, ridiculously oversized jeans, and the movie *American Beauty*. They also continue their culinary journey by taste-testing a snack from Korea. [Ep287]
