On the latest episode of this new Talkhouse Podcast spin-off series, host Nick Dawson sits down with visionary writer-director Michel Gondry, whose delightful new film, Maya, Give Me a Title – a hand-drawn 60-minute feature he originally made just for his young daughter – is currently on the festival circuit. In a wide-ranging conversation, the two talk about childhood, him learning a sense of play from cats, the pivotal moment when he decided to work only on his own terms, taking David Lynch's advice for his 2015 movie Microbe and Gasoline, watching that same movie alone a plane, why people's fixation on the Bermuda Triangle is nonsense, and much more.

In this Diana Wynyard Acteurist Oeuvre-view episode, we look at probably her best-known film, Gaslight (directed by Thorold Dickinson), and consider its pros and cons relative to the Cukor/Selznick Hollywood version of a few years later, as well as the question of how "gaslighting" became an internet meme and how well the source fits the popular meaning. Then we turn to an oddball film with an anti-nationalism message, Freedom Radio (Anthony Asquith), set in Nazi Germany but with a broader application, and consider how Wynyard's screen persona informs her tricky role. Then, in Fear and Moviegoing in Toronto, we battle it out over Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (cluttered or perfect screenplay by Charlie Kaufman?) and find accord on John Cassavetes' revealing potboiler, Gloria (love story between a tiny man and a deadly goddess). In this episode of Visual Intonation, we meet Ibrahim K. Muhammad—a director, photographer, cinematographer, and editor who's redefining the boundaries of storytelling. Based in London, Ibrahim's journey began not with a formal film education, but with the lens of a mobile phone and a childhood passion for recreating 'Lego' movies. His path took him through the BRIT School and the University of Westminster, eventually leading him to co-direct his first short film, 'SHEEP', in 2019. Fast-forward to now, Ibrahim's journey has collided with global names like John Boyega and Converse, resulting in his latest short film, 'ONLY CHILD'. But how did this all start? In a Zoom call with Converse and other emerging filmmakers, Ibrahim found himself stepping into a world where creative potential meets unparalleled resources. The rest, as they say, is history. But Ibrahim's story isn't just about cameras and editing suites; it's about the power of storytelling itself. His work is a reflection of his deep connection to history, culture, and identity—elements that are woven into every frame he captures. Inspired by figures like Gordon Parks, whose work bridged the worlds of photography and social change, Ibrahim views his craft as a tool for manipulation, not just of light and shadow, but of reality itself. For him, photography and film are more than mediums—they're vehicles for creating truths that resonate far beyond the screen. In this episode, Ibrahim shares his insights on the evolution of his artistry, how he's shaping the future of visual storytelling, and the impact he hopes to leave on the world. This episode dives deep into Ibrahim's evolution—from weekly cinema visits with his dad to the visual mastery he commands today. We explore his love for photography, his influences from legends like David Fincher and Michel Gondry, and his unique take on visual storytelling. Get ready for a conversation about making art, breaking barriers, and finding your own voice in the ever-changing world of film.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a sci-fi romance film directed by Michel Gondry, who co-wrote the film with Charlie Kaufman and Pierre Bismuth. It opened in theaters on March 19, 2004. In the movie, Joel (Jim Carrey) learns that his ex-girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) had her memory of him erased through a medical procedure.

You'd think with the combination fo Seth Rogan & Evan Goldberg the minds behind The Boys, Superbad and TMNT Mutant Mayhem, director Michel Gondry from Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and the cast of Christoph Waltz, Jay Chou and Cameron Diaz that The Green Hornet 2011 would not be terrible. But it is.
