Shauna and Olivia want to share their favorite movies with each other, and you! This time Olivia shares one of her favorite movies, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Directed by Michel Gondry from a screenplay he wrote with Charlie Kaufman and Pierre Bismuth, Eternal Sunshine asks and answers the question 'If you could totally erase an ex-lover from your memory, would you?' Jim Carrey plays mild-mannered Joel Barish, who meets and falls for free-spirited Clementine Kruczynski, whose hair changes to match her moods. They fall in love then fall out again, and after their break-up, Joel discovers Clementine has quite literally forgotten he exists. The movie follows Joel as he undertakes to wipe his own memories of their relationship. The Junkies ask themselves (and you) if there are any memories they'd pay to erase, and if not, why not? Note: there are spoilers in this episode, so do watch the film before listening. We have affordable and rewarding Patreon tiers! Be the first to hear new and uncensored content, if you dare! Prior to joining Amazon, Hope produced over 70 films, as well as co-founding and co-running the production companies Good Machine, this is that, and Double Hope Films. Phil and Emily are joined by Katey Rich, awards editor at The Ankler and host of the Prestige Junkie podcast, to discuss Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Michel Gondry's Charlie Kaufman-written love story and one of the defining films of its generation. This episode is part of the ongoing miniseries on the 2000s films of Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry.Jim Carrey plays Joel and Kate Winslet plays Clementine, former partners who independently undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst, and Elijah Wood. Released March 19th, 2004, it opened against Dawn of the Dead, The Passion of the Christ, and Starsky and Hutch, earned only two Oscar nominations, and somehow still became Charlie Kaufman's highest-grossing film.Phil, Emily, and Katey dig into how a movie that felt like a March dump release became a Sight and Sound list entry and a Letterboxd top 5 staple, why the Academy of 2004 simply wasn't ready for it, and how Jim Carrey managed to get overlooked by Oscar voters again six years after The Truman Show. They also get into how the Gondry and Kaufman collaboration works so much better here than it did on Human Nature, what the ending means when you come back to it older, and why Everything Everywhere All At Once couldn't exist without this film.Katey saw it right after her first real breakup and was completely walloped by it. Emily has seen it over ten times and has been happily married since college. Phil was 24 when it came out and was in exactly the right kind of romantic chaos for it to hit hardest. Three very different relationships with the same movie.Follow the show and guests:Podcast Like It's...: https://www.instagram.com/podcastlikeitsPhil Iscove: https://www.instagram.com/pmiscoveEmily St. James: https://www.instagram.com/emilystjamsKatey Rich: https://www.instagram.com/kateyrichtalkingPatreon (bonus episodes and video): http://patreon.com/Podcastlikeits Hosted on Acast. Phil and Emily are joined by Colby Day to discuss Human Nature (2001), Michel Gondry's feature directorial debut and Charlie Kaufman's second produced screenplay. The trio dives into this offbeat comedy about a woman with hypertrichosis, a scientist obsessed with teaching table manners to mice, and a feral man raised in the wild. They explore how Kaufman and Gondry use this absurd love triangle to interrogate what it means to be "civilized." They also discuss the film's place in the early-2000s Kaufman canon, how it compares to Gondry and Kaufman's later collaboration Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and why this strange, underseen comedy deserves a second look. "Wish me a happy Valentine's Day when you call. That'd be... nice!" We watched "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" with our friend Amber Shaw, and we need to wash the Blue Ruin hair dye out of our hands. Could this be the most romantic movie of all time? To a generation of millennials, the answer just might be yes. This loopy, Möbius strip, timey-wimey love story could only have been constructed by writer Charlie Kaufman and put to screen by visionary director Michel Gondry, and it has forever left a stamp on our impressionable minds. Jim Carrey gives a rare but memorable dramatic performance as the nebbish, lovelorn Joel Barish, and Kate Winslet delivers an Oscar-nominated performance as the prototype Manic Pixie Dream Girl, Clementine Kruczynski. Gondry's analog, sci-fi world brings us back to a pre-social media era in which one could plausibly have an entire relationship erased from their memory, and a mere postcard could seal the deal to your friends and family. Maybe smartphones would have been the death knell for Lacuna Inc., but we're glad to harken back to those naive days in the before times. There are theories about Joel and Clem's future relationship and whether or not they continued to have the erasure procedure done over and over again. Maybe meeting each other for the first time is their happy place. This movie just might be ours.  Thank you for listening, and don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review us on Apple Podcasts! www.patreon.com/moviesthatmadeusgay Facebook/Instagram: @moviesthatmadeusgay Bluesky: @MTMUGPod.bsky.social Scott Youngbauer: Twitter @oscarscott / Instagram @scottyoungballer Peter Lozano: Twitter/Instagram @peterlasagna Cover Art by Shaun Piela

This week, the boys grabbed some beers and kept it positive while they fired off some mini-reviews before featuring a conversation about “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. As part of the random year generator series, 2004 was a great year for movies, with over 50 $100m movies and many likable ones. While “Eternal Sunshine” didn't gross in the top 70, it may be the year's greatest film. Props to Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman for giving Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet some juicy roles and incredibly shifty worlds! Kulttuuriykkösen keskustelussa MTV Europen juontajana vuosina 1993-1997 toiminut europarlamentaarikko Maria Guzenina, pohjoismaisista musiikkivideoista tietokirjan juuri julkaissut musiikkitieteiden professori John Richardson Turun yliopistosta sekä Oulun musiikkivideofestivaaleilla omaa kuratoitua musiikkivideotapahtumaa vuosia vetänyt musiikkitoimittaja Veli Kauppinen.

In this episode of Visual Intonation, we meet Ibrahim K. Muhammad—a director, photographer, cinematographer, and editor who's redefining the boundaries of storytelling. Based in London, Ibrahim's journey began not with a formal film education, but with the lens of a mobile phone and a childhood passion for recreating 'Lego' movies. His path took him through the BRIT School and the University of Westminster, eventually leading him to co-direct his first short film, 'SHEEP', in 2019.  Fast-forward to now, Ibrahim's journey has collided with global names like John Boyega and Converse, resulting in his latest short film, 'ONLY CHILD'. But how did this all start? In a Zoom call with Converse and other emerging filmmakers, Ibrahim found himself stepping into a world where creative potential meets unparalleled resources. The rest, as they say, is history.  But Ibrahim's story isn't just about cameras and editing suites; it's about the power of storytelling itself. His work is a reflection of his deep connection to history, culture, and identity—elements that are woven into every frame he captures. Inspired by figures like Gordon Parks, whose work bridged the worlds of photography and social change, Ibrahim views his craft as a tool for manipulation, not just of light and shadow, but of reality itself. For him, photography and film are more than mediums—they're vehicles for creating truths that resonate far beyond the screen. In this episode, Ibrahim shares his insights on the evolution of his artistry, how he's shaping the future of visual storytelling, and the impact he hopes to leave on the world.  This episode dives deep into Ibrahim's evolution—from weekly cinema visits with his dad to the visual mastery he commands today. We explore his love for photography, his influences from legends like David Fincher and Michel Gondry, and his unique take on visual storytelling.
