Professor Judy Lowthian leads a multidisciplinary research team as Head of Research and Principal Research Fellow at Bolton Clarke, a national not-for-profit aged and community care provider. She is an Adjunct Professor with University of Queensland's Faculty of Health and Associate Professor with Monash University's School of Public Health & Preventive Medicine. Her early professional career was as a speech pathologist in rehabilitation following acquired brain injury, and in management of interdisciplinary child and adolescent health services. Judy is internationally recognised in the field of gerontological health services research in emergency care, hospital-to-home care transitions, frailty, cognitive impairment and dementia, loneliness, palliative care, and implementation of new models of care with a focus on patient and family experience. He enjoyed extensive command experience included an infantry battalion, the Australian Medical Support Force Rwanda, the Land Warfare Centre and the 7th Brigade. He also served overseas with the British Army in Germany, as an exchange instructor at the British Army Command and Staff College, Camberley and with the UN in Rwanda.Pat resigned from the Army in 2002 due to a family illness. He established a financial planning business in Brisbane and worked in the business until 2015.Pat joined the board of RSL Care in October 2010 and was elected Chairman in July 2012 after developing and implementing a significant business transformation program. When RSL Care merged with RDNS (Royal District Nursing Society) in October 2015 the Group adopted the trading name Bolton Clarke. Pat is the Chairman of Bolton Clarke, Altura Learning, RDNS New Zealand and RDNS Hong Kong.Pat has extensive experience in leadership, management, finance, training and strategic planning. He has degrees in personnel management and accounting. His post graduate qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Management and a Master of Business Administration.Pat was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross in 1995 for service in command of the Australian Medical Support Force in Rwanda and was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2002.Pat was appointed to the SCCU Board as a casual director on 29th June 2021 and elected as Audit Committee Chair in November 2021. This week I interview Max and Lorna Holmes on site at the Bolton Clarke aged care facility centre. Max and Lorna take us through their story, which begins when they were 16 years old. They were forced to go long distance when Max joined the Navy. They had a small, simple wedding, with only close family and friends present. Betty & Jean met as young women, whose friendship started when they joined the army as young women. They lost contact for more than 50 years, and recently discovered one another at a Bolton Clarke event they both attended. They share the story of this enduring friendship.
One of the founders of the Ferguson Plarre pastry empire, Alan is now 100 and lives in the Bolton Clarke community at Banora Point on the Gold Coast. As a young boy growing up in Melbourne, Alan learned pastry from his father who was part of the group who founded what is now William Angliss. Alan talks of war and family and growing up in Melbourne.
Dot is a Bolton Clarke volunteer. She has always been a volunteer and after the passing of her husband, she was encouraged to join the Milford Grange family in Ipswich. Dot loves how much volunteering fulfills her and what it brings to her life.
Matiu founded One Good Street, a social networking platform to encourage neighbour initiated care for older residents at risk of social isolation and loneliness. Matiu is Design Integration Lead at Bolton Clarke, driving innovation and creativity in the aged and community sector. Matiu has a Master's degree in Public Health and broad clinical and managerial nursing experience, including working in Tijuana, Mexico with Nobel Prize Laureate Mother Teresa in international border aid, and as an emergency, oncology, intensive care nurse and is a sexual health Nurse Practitioner.Matiu contributes to health system innovation through involvement with Better Care Victoria as a board member and the Emerging Leaders Clinical Advisory Committee and mentors the next generation of undergraduate and postgraduate science students through the University of Melbourne Science Industry Mentoring Program.
