It's the final episode of the Punisher. With so many characters needing a payoff we discuss how successful it was in our Punisher 213 Review podcast for "The Whirlwind". We talk about our top five bullet points about this episode in our Spoiler filled discussion. As always make sure you've watched the episode before listening to the podcast. Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) and Amy (Giorgia Whigham) take a moment out. Punisher 213 Review Spoiler filled Synopsis Episode Written by: Steve Lightfoot Episode Directed by: Jeremy Webb After witnessing Krista Dumont's fall and believing her dead, Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) full of rage tries to kill Dinah Madani (Amber Rose Revah) in retaliation. He is shot by her and forced to escape from the police as they arrive. Badly wounded Russo attempts to get help from a whiskey swilling back-alley surgeon Doctor Charles (E.J. Carroll), who true to his name dumps Russo in a back-alley wheelie bin after taking all his money. As Russo awakes in the bin with his wounds still open and bleeding the irony of his situation is not lost on his dark sense of humour. Elsewhere and unbeknownst to Russo, both Dinah Madani and Krista Dumont (Floriana Lima) are still alive. As Krista awakes in hospital she is visited by Madani who forgets to bring flowers, chocolates and a bunch of grapes but remembers to bring lots of attitude! Meanwhile, a deal made between the Schultz’s and Frank Castle to exchange David Schultz (Todd Alan Crain) for Amy (Giorgia Whigham) gets complicated. As Amy notifies Frank of Pilgrim's whereabouts, she is only kidnapped by the Pilgrim during the ensuing shootout between him and Frank. At the same time Curtis Hoyle (Jason R. Moore) goes off script to free David and turns him over to Detective Sergeant Brett Mahoney (Royce Johnson). As the non-exchange of David and Amy gets crazy Pilgrim and Castle engage in a brutal hand-to-hand fight that Frank wins; but he doesn’t kill the Pilgrim after being asked by him to spare his sons. Instead Frank uses the man in black to secure a path to the Schultz residence where bullets go bang. Finally, as Russo takes shelter in Curtis' workplace basement, he waits for Curtis to sit with him until he dies. However, Curtis has called Frank who, with no chit-chat, executes Russo off-loading two bullets into his chest, killing him instantly! Three months later, after sending Amy to Florida to learn scuba-diving, Frank resumes his duties as the Punisher while Madani (conscience clear) works for the C.I.A. (who she previously fought against)! Happy ever after! Contact us and subscribe to the podcast Thank you so much for listening to our Punisher 213 Review Podcast. The embargo is over and we've seen all thirteen episodes of The Punisher. Join Derek for a quick podcast for our Punisher Season One Spoiler Free Review. Synopsis for our Punisher Season One Spoiler Free Review After blasting his way into Season 2 of Daredevil it wasn’t long until Netflix added to their roster of growing Marvel TV shows by announcing The Punisher was getting his own series. Thanks is no small part to the outstanding performance of Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Baby Driver) it was easy to see why Netflix felt so confident that he could carry his own thirteen episode series. Listen to the Defenders TV Podcast review of The Punisher Episode 1 “3AM” from Friday the 17th of November at defenderstvpodcast.com New episodes will be released every Friday. The story so far Frank Castle went on a rampage to take out the gangs involved in the murder of his family. Nicknamed The Punisher, Castle laid waste to The Kitchen Irish, The Dogs of Hell and his former comrade in arms “The Blacksmith” as punishment for the losses he had suffered. At the end of Punisher’s arc on Daredevil we are left with a number of questions. Schoonover, the blacksmith reveals that Frank might have been responsible for the death of his family and Frank finds a memory card tagged with the very familiar name “Micro”. The New Cast The new cast is where the Punisher really shines. This is a new phase for Marvel’s shows on Netflix and it feels like it. Stand out performances are in abundance here. Unlike Iron Fist it doesn’t take multiple episodes to understand why the storyline is focused on multiple threads. Ebon Moss-Bachrach as tech genius Micro creates an interesting partnership with Frank. Amber Rose Revah as Homeland Security agent Dinah Madani is a well written, complex doggedly determined character. I’ve always been the defender of Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page. She’s used well in The Punisher with some smart use of her history and motivations. Ben Barnes as comic book character Billy Russo brings a great presence to the show. There are other great performances here but I don’t want to spoil any more. Verdict While tied to Punisher’s previous exploits in Daredevil season 2 this feels bigger as it should. The exploration of P.T.S.D., politics, shady covert dealings and yes gun violence isn’t new to TV but is new for the Marvel universe. There are times that feel like Homeland, House of Cards and Generation Kill this is a serious show. I was nervous coming into the Punisher that it was going to be dour, preachy or a slog to get through. Thankfully in the hands of showrunner Steve Lightfoot (Best known for Hannibal) it was constantly compelling. The Netflix trademark end of episode cliffhanger absent since before Luke Cage is back here and I constantly wanted just one more episode. While never boring the show does move into thoughtful contemplation at times. Episode one shows us what the show could have been in the hands of someone else but from episode two the series pivots into a much more complex show. Overall Marvel and Netflix first collaboration on a non powered hero is well worth a watch. We're back after our mini-break to MCM London Comic Con last week, and we are full of tv news, tv premiere date info... and cold in the case of co-host Bex... We do, however, have a fantastic interview with Amber Rose Revah, a lead actress from one of this year's most anticipated new shows - 'The Punisher'.Amber started her on-screen career in 'I Can't Think Straight', which has since become a worldwide cult LGBT movie. She made her TV debut on BBC/HBO Emmy-nominated 'House OF Saddam' in 2008 before performing alongside John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers in Luc Besson's 'From Paris With Love' in 2010. Since then she's played the lead role of Vidya Kahn in the BBC’s four-part mystery drama 'What Remains', Mary Magdalene in History Channel's 'The Bible', and had guest lead roles in 'Silent Witness', 'Foyle’s War', and 'Midsummer Murders'. Most recently you may have seen her as Leena Prasad in Channel 4's huge hit drama 'Indian Summers' and as Miranda in NBC's 'Emerald City'.She now takes on the leading female role of Dinah Madani, an Iranian-American Homeland Security agent pursuing Jon Bernthal's 'The Punisher' in the Marvel/Netflix series. In the interview, we discuss working on the show, learning about stunt work and fight training, and getting her own shotgun prop! Also On This Week's Show:A very ill Bex Trista (TristaBytes) returns the show, so we chat about MCM London Comic Con, plus the tv shows and films we've been watching (or not watching in Bex's case), including 'Red Dwarf', 'Stranger Things 2', 'Spiderman: Homecoming' and 'Marvel’s Inhumans'.We take a look at all the latest tv & film news, including the ‘Lord of the Rings’ TV series, the new version of '24', Nathan Fillion's new show, and the reboot of ‘The Twilight Zone’.We give you our recommendations for upcoming TV in the next 7 days.
