In this episode of Challenge Accepted, Frank and Thomas dissect Daredevil: Born Again Episode 7, “Art for Art's Sake.” With Muse's storyline abruptly cut short and Kingpin's dark side reawakening, the episode leaves fans both frustrated and intrigued. We talk character motivations, missed opportunities, jaw-dropping moments, and what this all means as the show hurtles toward the finale. Also, shoutout to Apple TV's The Studio—we've got a hot new comedy recommendation you won't want to miss. ⏱️ Timestamps & Topics: 00:00 Introduction and first impressions 00:25 Muse's abrupt ending and missed villain potential 01:36 Muse's motivations vs. lost storytelling opportunity 03:24 The therapist connection and what was missing 04:30 Muse's character in the comics vs. the show 05:06 Alternate endings and writing what could've been 06:01 Vigilante task force development and character cracks 08:09 Vanessa's secret moves and Kingpin's true nature 10:25 Power shifts, betrayals, and Vanessa's motivations 12:04 Mirrored arcs of Matt and Fisk 13:22 The return of Karen Page and Daredevil's emotional grounding 15:29 Adam: Kingpin's punching bag or pressure valve? 16:40 Fisk's rise through legal channels mirrors comic roots 17:24 New York as a character and who really protects it 18:40 Sherry's confrontation with Matt and moral questions 20:41 Muse fight choreography and ADR fail 23:52 Fixing the series—rewrites and Bob Iger's intervention 25:40 Show Recommendation: The Studio on Apple TV 27:56 Final thoughts and listener shoutouts ✅ Key Takeaways: Muse's arc was a major letdown, especially given his deep comic origins as an Inhuman with sensory-disrupting powers. Vanessa manipulates Kingpin back to his criminal roots, proving she's the real power behind the throne. Daredevil and Fisk are perfectly mirrored this season, both believing they need to unleash their darker sides to save New York. Episode 7 suffered from rushed pacing, missing an opportunity to build suspense with Muse's obsession. The vigilante task force and North's internal struggle are promising but need more screen time. The rewrites are clearly working—shifting the tone back toward what fans loved in the Netflix series while keeping things fresh.

Welcome back to Collecting Issues – the comic book book club podcast – and our first episode of the year (even if it is March, don't @ us). This month, we're diving deep into one of the most iconic and influential superhero stories of all time: Daredevil: Born Again – collecting issues #227 to #233 from the 1986 Daredevil run, written by Frank Miller and drawn by David Mazzucchelli. In this extended breakdown, we take a long, winding look at the dismantling and resurrection of Matt Murdock, the defining portrayal of the Kingpin as a true menace, and the raw, uncompromising misery that Miller lathers onto every page. From gritty noir influences to intense Catholic imagery (and a nun who may or may not be Matt's mammy), we discuss the themes, legacy, and visuals of this masterwork – all while occasionally slandering Foggy Nelson and wondering what the hell Nuke is doing here.We also cover:The real golden age of Daredevil (hint: not the 1930s)Karen Page's tragic arc and women in 1980s comicsThe influence of Miller's crime storytelling and cinematic layoutsA very sweaty Kingpin in Speedos beating up six ladsWhat happens when a Daredevil comic becomes a Captain America comicShared universe highs and lowsAnd why Frank Miller definitely, absolutely, maybe just hates joyPlus, we ask the big questions: Did Miller create the heavy render era or just ride the wave? Is this still the definitive Daredevil story? And why won't Foggy just stop being the worst? This is a bumper episode, so get comfy, roll your eyes at how miserable it all is, and join us for one of the bleakest but most brilliant stories in superhero history. If you've got thoughts on Born Again or just want to shout at us for our hot takes, join the Collecting Issues Discord (link below) and let us know. Episode 54 - Murdock and Marvel: 2001 Part 2 The year 2001 has a dark shadow over it, and there are elements of this year that are pretty rough, because as the year closed comic books were trying to make sense of and deal with 9/11 just like the rest of America. But the start of the year brought a lot of great entertainment and for the first time in years sales held steady (mostly) This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2001. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil #14-26, Daredevil / Spider-Man #1-4, Daredevil: Yellow #1-5, Daredevil: Ninja #2-3, Marvel Knights #7-9 and #11-15, Black Widow #2-3, Spider-Man and Mysterio #1-3, X-Men #109, Big Town #4, Deadpool #52, Black Panther #31, Elektra #1, Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #7-8, 100 Greatest Marvels of All Time #1 and 4, Marvel Masterworks: Daredevil #2 and Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor #3. Writing: David Mack (#14-15), Brian Michael Bendis (#16-19 and #26) Bob Gale (#20-25) Pencils: Joe Quesada and David Ross (#14), Ross (#15 and #23-25), David Mack (#16-19), Phil Winslade (#20-22), Alex Maleev (#26) Inks: Mark Morales (#14-15) David Mack and Morales (#15) Mack and Pond Scum (#17) Mack (#18-19), James Hodgkins (#20-22), Hodgkins and Mark Pennington (#23), Pennington (#24-25), Alex Maleev (#26) After the wrap-up of the Parts of a hole storyline that included a trail of Kingpin before he's eventually blinded by Maya Lopez aka Echo, we get our first story from Brian Michael Bendis with David Mack moving over to art. The 4-book story, Titled Wake Up, is a fantastically told and beautifully brought to page by the creative team. It doesn't really have any action and is really only loosely about Daredevil. Interesting, right? This is, without a doubt, worth spotlighting this week – so we'll talk more about it then. The other main story we get this year is called Playing to the Camera in which Daredevil is sued by rich philanthropist Samuel Griggs and wants to retain Nelson and Murdock (specifically Matt Murdock) as his lawyer. Matt reluctantly agrees as he knows he wasn't involved with destroying the man's greenhouse and plants and wants to figure out who's behind it. As Daredevil, he hires a lawyer and they have their days in court surrounded by a media circus. The trial ends with 3 daredevils in the courtroom - Murdock as himself holding a video tape of himself as Daredevil earlier that morning, Peter Parker in a Daredevil costume with the defense attorney and a third Daredevil who crashes a window, admits to the property damage, offers the $50k needed to fix it and then reveals his true identity as Terrance Hillman. Confused? So is Murdock and Nelson. Apparently, Hillman decided on his own to dress up as Daredevil and crash the courtroom. He then used the reveal and announced retirement to swing fame and fortune (and help out the real Daredevil). We also learn that Hillman didn't destroy the property either and that the Ringmaster was behind everything. He was testing his ability to implant false memories in people. One interesting side note about the first issue of the Playing with Camera storyline. A second story appears in the issue “My Brother's Keeper” written by Stan Lee and Kevin Hall with art by Gene Colan. In the short story, we see Daredevil and Spider-Man during a night out. We did get one more book in December from Brian Michael Bendis but we'll save that for next year's discussion. Finally In Daredevil: Yellow we get a 6-book story in which Matt is writing letters to the late Karen Page about the early days of Daredevil and the Nelson and Murdock law firm as a way to find forgiveness for everything that happened between them. The story, by Jeph Loeb, artist Tim Sale and colors by Matt Hollingsworth, is another retailing of the first handful of issues from Daredevil volume 1 that ends with the Purple Man story and Matt finding the forgiveness he needs. Whether you're new to the character or just need a refresher on the Netflix series, this primer covers the essential elements that make Matt Murdock one of Marvel's most compelling characters.Who is Daredevil, and what makes him unique?Matt Murdock lost his sight as a child when toxic waste enhanced his other senses to superhuman levels. By day, he's a defense attorney at Nelson & Murdock with his best friend, Foggy Nelson. By night, he's Daredevil, a vigilante who uses his enhanced senses and ninja training to protect Hell's Kitchen. What separates Matt from other heroes is his constant moral struggle and complete lack of impulse control—he desperately wants to do the right thing but often makes impulsive decisions that damage his relationships and career. What role does Catholicism play in Daredevil's story?Matt's Catholic faith provides the moral framework for his vigilante actions. The show portrays his religious struggle authentically without reducing it to stereotypes. His conversations with his priest highlight his central conflict: "Are you afraid that you will have to kill this man and you don't want to? Or are you afraid that you won't have to kill this man and you want to?" This question encapsulates Matt's internal battle between justice and vengeance. How does Daredevil balance his dual life as lawyer and vigilante? The constant tension between working within the system as a defense attorney and operating outside it as a vigilante defines Matt's character. Season one explores whether he can trust the legal system to handle Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) or must take matters into his own hands. This struggle affects everyone in his life, especially Foggy Nelson, who keeps their law practice running while Matt disappears to fight crime.Other topics discussed:How the Netflix series portrays Hell's Kitchen and its gentrificationMatt Murdock's complicated romantic relationships and flirtatious tendenciesThe portrayal of Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin and his relationship with VanessaThe importance of Foggy Nelson as Matt's moral center and best friendHow Daredevil's disability is represented in the seriesThe connections between the Netflix series and the upcoming Disney+ showThe role of supporting characters like Karen Page and Claire TempleHow the Punisher serves as a foil to Daredevil's moral codeThe hosts wrap up by highlighting the unique male friendship between Matt and Foggy, noting how rare it is to see such emotionally complex male friendships portrayed on screen. Episode 43 - Murdock and Marvel: 1996 Part 2 Well, here we are, Duane. At the End of Days. I have been promising you that everything was going to explode eventually. And finally we have arrived. Welcome to the fateful year 1996, when Marvel came crashing down. This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 1996. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil #348-359, Punisher #4, What if…? #83, Marvel versus DC / DC versus Marvel #2-3, Green Goblin #6 and 12, Doom 2099 #40-42, Over the Edge #6 and 10, Wolverine #103-104, New Warriors #73, Spider-Man Unlimited #13, Essential Wolverine #1, Essential X-Men #1, Spider-Man #74, Elektra Megazine #1-2, Essential Spider-Man #1 and Age of Innocence: The Rebirth of Iron Man, Spider-Man's Greatest Team-Ups and Elektra Lives Again graphic novels Writing: J.M. DeMatteis (348-350), John Rozum (351), Ben Rabb (352), Karl Kesel (353-357), Joe Kelly (358-359) Pencils: Cary Nord (348-349, 353-357), Ron Wagner (350), Shawn McManus (351-352), Pasqual Ferry (358), Nord and Larry Hama (359) Inks: Bill Reinhold (348, 350), Al Williamson (349), Shawn McManus (351-352), Matt Ryan (353-357, 359), Pasqual Ferry (358) The year begins with Matt trying to reconcile his recent identity crisis while Foggy is angry about the secret he's finally learned. Matt tries visiting with his mother Maggie, but it's his old Mentor Stick that helps him – though in the process he ends up taking on the Chaste. Foggy and Matt begin practicing law together again. From there, things return to normal (or at least what's normal for Daredevil or Matt Murdock), He takes out Agent Vice who's extorting money from other criminals. Daredevil must take on Mastermind who is also Matt Murdock's client. In June we get a new creative team that was teased at the end of issue 352. Karl Kesel and Cary Nord. We also get a re-imagined Mr. Hyde from John Romita Jr. Hyde seems to be totally unhinged (with an equally terrifying look). Daredevil confronts Hyde in an old Osborn warehouse where a woman has been murdered. Hyde continues to act crazy and is ultimately arrested. During this issue Foggy and Matt (mostly Matt) are asked to partner with hotshot lawyer Rosalind (Razor) Sharpe. Sharpe tells Matt privately that the two are a package deal. She doesn't just want Foggy. Foggy seemed weirdly eager to join her so Matt accepts. And as a first case under the new partnership, Sharpe was Murdock to represent Mr. Hyde. At first, Murdock doesn't want to do it, but after meeting with Hyde – Matt doesn't think he killed the girl. The leads to Daredevil taking on Pyro and looking for clues at the warehouse – with the help of Misty Knight – which leads to a secret tunnel and a group of criminals called the Enforcers and their newest member the Eel – who captures our hero. The story ends when Daredevil escapes and captures the Eel and presents the Eel to the courtroom waiting for the trial of Mr. Hyde to start. The year ends with two standalone stories that have a much different look and feel from the rest of the year. In the first, Daredevil takes on Mysterio who's working on a super-hero insurance scam. This fun story will be our spotlight story for the week. In the second, we see a night of Daredevil fighting crime while Karen Page talks to people of New York about their thoughts on Daredevil (now that the Fantastic Four and Avengers are gone) during her late-night radio call in show. Episode 41 - Murdock and Marvel: 1995 Part 2 It was a tough year in comics, especially for the big two. Comic shops were having trouble, readers seemed to be moving on to other things, and corporate overlords continued to demand ever higher profits. 1995 was a bit of an…apocalypse. This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 1995. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil #336-347, Elekrta: Root of Evil #1, Marvel Super-Heroes Megazine #4 and 6, Spider-Man: Power of Terror #2 - #4, Sabertooth Classic #11, Marvel: Portraits #2 - #4, What if…? #73, Ghost Rider #61, X-Universe #1 – #2, Ruins #1, Incredible Hulk #434, Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe #1, Over the Edge #1, and Double Edge: Omega graphic novel Writing: Gregory Wright (336-337), Alan Smithee [actually Dan G Chichester] (338-342), Warren Ellis (343), J.M. DeMatteis (344-347) Pencils: Tom Grindberg (336-337), Alexander Jubran (339-340), Keith Pollard (341-342), Pollard and Arvell Malcolm Jones (343), Ron Wagner (344-347) Inks: Don Hudson (336-337), Andre Parks and Hudson (338), Parks, Hudson Bud LaRosa and Rodney Ramos (339), Parks, Hudson and Marie Severin (340), Art Nichols (341), Tom Palmer (342-343), Bill Reinhold (344-347) The year begins with the final 2 chapters of the Fathoms of Humanity story arc that started last year. You'll recall that story stared with Daredevil following a homeless man into the sewers and coming befriending him and a whole group of people who live there. He battled the King of the Sewers and defeated him again. And we also saw the kingpin attempting to slowly grow his power back. In these final two chapters we learn the homeless man Daredevil followed was once a superhero himself – peacekeeper – in order to help Daredevil and his community against the Sewer King's attempts to take back control of the community and defeat Daredevil. From there, we get the story of Victor “Kruel” Krueller and the Ghost of a Chance diner in flashbacks to explain why Kruel is going after those near and dear to Daredevil/Matt Murdock (Foogy, Glorianna, DA Malpher, Ben Urich). Seems he double crossed Wilson Fisk and at the diner, Fisk caught him and nearly killed him – then covered it up by drugging those same people to wipe their memory. Now Kruel is bent on revenge and is seeking out the witnesses to help him remember what happened. During the quest for information, Kruel kills Glorianna which causes Fisk and Daredevil to team up to locate and confront Kruel. When they do, Fisk ends up killing Kruel. There's a side story going on in this story as we see Karen Page trying to get information about some troubling images, she saw on a CD given to her by her former adult movie producers. After a stand-alone book that was part of the Over the Edge event that didn't really make a lot of sense involving the Punisher. We get the start of the Inferno story arc. In it, we see a second Daredevil in the original red and yellow costume and a bonding around the city and talking with Foggy and Karen (as well as leaving taunting messages with Matt). We also see a villain names Sir who's attacking and killing women. At one point, the two meet and Sir beats up Daredevil so badly, Sir is able to take his costume. This leads to a very confusing confrontation in which Sir as Daredevil fights the red and yellow daredevil – who happens to be Murdock as an alternate personality. In the end, Batlin as Daredevil defeats Sir as Daredevil and Karen and Foggy come to realize that Batlin is actually Matt Murdock! Elektra: Root of Evil Daito of the Snakeroot kills himself with the Sakki sword and makes it impure. So the rest of the snakeroot need to kill three specific people to purify the blade again. (not sure how they know who). There's a brief cameo by Daredevil is issue 1 where he stops Elektra from killing some random mercenaries who are after her. Elektra wants to form her own Ryu (ninja group like the Chaste) and works with Nick Fury to get recruits. We briefly meet Target, Lynch, Impact, Masquerade, Niko and Salvo before most are killed in their very first battle against the snakeroot (like the X-force in Deadpool 2). Via flashbacks, we learn Elektra has an older brother, Orestez who saved Elektra when she was a child and whom killed their mother for seemly cheating on their father. Though Elektra did turn out to be their father's daughter Other flashbacks show Elektra was a member of the Snakeroot and fell in love with Tekagi – whom she ends up killing at the end of this series with new sais covered in poison before they could kill all 3 purity people. Joshua and Jamie Do Daredevil: A fantastic podcast that does a deep-dive into Daredevil comics. This ran from 2018-2020, and covered most of the first volume of Daredevil, and was a fun way to get an in-depth look at each issue of Daredevil from 1-377. My Marvelous Year: This is a reading-club style podcast where Dave Buesing and friends chose important or interesting books from a particular year to read and discuss. This helped me remember some fun and crazy stories, and would be a great companion piece to Murdock and Marvel for those who want more comic-story-specific coverage. BOOKLIST The following books have been frequently used as reference while preparing summaries of the comic history segments of our show. Each and every one comes recommended by Dan for fans wanting to read more about it! Licari, Fabio and Marco Rizzo. Marvel: The First 80 Years: The True Story of a Pop-Culture Phenomenon. London: Titan Books, 2020. This book is sort of a mess, as the print quality is terrible, and Titan doesn't even credit the authors unless you check the fine print. It's like this was published by Marvel in the early 60s! But the information is good, and it is presented in an entertaining fashion. So its decent, but I would recommend you see if you can just borrow it from the library instead of purchasing. Wells, John. American Comic Book Chronicles: 1960-1964. Raleigh: Two Morrows, 2015. Not cheap, but a fantastic series that is informative and fun to read. Wright, Bradford. Comic Book Nation: The Transformation of Youth Culture in America. Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 2001. This is the revised edition. Marvel Year By Year: A Visual History. New York: DK Publishing, 2022. Stan Lee starts as editor to start the year, but Roy Thomas takes over in issue #91. Stan Lee is still named in the other issues as “presenting”. The year starts with Daredevil trying to convince Black Widow to trust the police and his friend the District Attorney and she ultimately goes to prison. The case is eventually dismissed because the body of Scorpion was lost in an explosion during a battle between Daredevil and Mr. Hyde. I should note that we aren't actually sure if there ever was a body. A plot to blackmail Foggy Nelson by Mr. Klein causes him to resign as District Attorney. Yet he seems to have remained D.A.? Not sure what happened there. In the Hulk books, Matt Murdock represents Bruce Banner and ends up angering the Hulk despite trying to follow Bruce Banners wishes and getting his client a fair trial. Black Widow heads to Switzerland and meets with a doctor who says they can restore sight to the blind. She calls Murdock in New York and he heads there only to find out the doctor was Mr. Klein/MK-9/The Assassin. We learn the android is a being known as Baal from the future who's traveled back in time to stop the end of humanity. Two Executioners from Baal's time arrive and kill him during a final confrontation. Next, Daredevil and Black Widow take on the Gladiator during their flight back to the U.S. They are able to defeat him and his accomplices with Daredevil then landing the plane. Back in New York, It looked like Karen Page and her Agent Phil were going to end up together in California but upon arriving in New York, Matt runs into Karen at the airport and the two share a kiss and an embrace, causing heartache to Natasha. Daredevil takes on the Ox after his release from prison but during the battle, the Ox's radiation builds up to a point that he explodes. After the battle, Karen admits to Matt that she still cannot handle him being Daredevil, and leaves him to return to L.A. Matt then rekindles his romance with the Black Widow and the two move to San Francisco. Once in San Fran, the two must take on Electro and Killgrave separately before the two team up in an effort to take down Daredevil – none of which actually works. The team-up issue will be our Spotlight issue this week. Black Widow talks about Danny French and Project 4 from her past with Daredevil and Ivan Petrovich and thinks it may be related to bouts of fear that is causing issues with them crime fighting. Turns out it was a new Mr. Fear whom Daredevil confronts and takes down at Jason Sloan's law office. Starting with issue 92, The covers list the title as “Daredevil and the Black Widow” The year ends with Daredevil and Black Widow taking on Indestructible Man who's after the Project 4 sphere. The final battle goes poorly until Danny French throws a spear at the glove providing Damon Dran's powers. The resulting explosion destroys Dran's powers and seemingly kills Drann. However, this victory comes at a cost, Danny bore the brunt of the explosion and dies in Black Widow's arms with Daredevil looking on. Episode 7 - Murdock and Marvel: 1969 Its 1969, and comics are returning to normal after the disruptions of the Marvel Age and Batmania. Small publishers continue to fail, even as Marvel and DC expand their offerings, and small independent publishers begin to test the waters. Marvel continues its expansion, but does so in some new directions, and Daredevil decides to stop keeping so many secrets. It's another busy year in the world of comics! Preshow Announcement: Off next week. Next episode will be March 27th. Stan Lee greenlit three new romance / teen titles, two horror/suspense books, and a western in 1969, while continuing to publish all the Marvel superhero titles that the company had expanded with in 1968. Signs of change were everywhere at Marvel, as Jack Kirby moved to California and new faces popped up in the bullpen with increasing regularity. Foggy wins the election for District attorney Matt Murdock briefly decides to give up by Daredevil, only to get pulled back in Saxon's robot is defeated by Daredevil and is re-programmed incorrectly by Saxon to take out Biggie Benson – which it does before Daredevil can stop it. Daredevil is in need of an antidote or could potentially die, but is nowhere to be found. The Black Panther assists in finding him before it's too late. Issue 54 was a retelling of the Daredevil origin story that convinces Daredevil that Matt Murdock is no longer necessary – leading Murdock to fake his own death because Saxon knows Murdock is Daredevil. Now only Daredevil, he's challenged by Mr. Fear (and old foe from early in the DD run) who gets the better of him and makes him look bad. In the rematch, we learn that Mr. Fear is actually Starr Saxon. Saxon battles Daredevil and loses, breaking his neck in a fall from a flying hovercraft platform. Daredevil follows a grief-strickened Karen Page to Vermont and her parents' home where he must help tangles with a horseman threatening people that go near the estate – which turns out to be Karen's father. It is after the events of this story he shows Karen that Matt Murdock and Daredevil are the same person. Daredevil finishes off the year taking down Stunt-Master and Torpedo, who were hired by crime boss Crime Wave, much to the dismay of Karen who agreed to marry him if he retired his DD identity. Episode 2 - Murdock and Marvel: 1964 On last week's show we discussed the long history of Marvel Comics from 1939 to 1963. This week we finally see where Stan, Jack and the rest of the Marvel bullpen had been leading up to. It's time to talk about 1964, and the debut of the World's Most Interesting Superhero – Daredevil! New Comics, Creators & Characters Big Moments Best Selling Books... and Marvels The Year in Marvel By the start of 1964 most of the characters that would headline the Marvel Universe were already in place. Disney is pretty much starting over with Daredevil: Born Again, and recent leaks suggest they're making it a direct follow-up to the Netflix series by adding Foggy Nelson and Karen Page back into the mix. Can they fix what was reportedly a TRAIN WRECK? Speaking of which, another rumor says Iron Fist might also be returning, but with a FEMALE lead... ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 ➡️ Gaming News: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A7VIqE3r5MQkFgL9nifNc Additional Context: In the ever-evolving world of superhero entertainment, Disney is taking a bold step with "Daredevil: Born Again." This upcoming series, set to premiere on Disney+, is generating buzz with rumors that it will be a direct continuation of the acclaimed Netflix series "Daredevil." Fans are curious to see how Disney will handle this transition, especially considering the mixed reactions to the original series' final season. The Netflix version of "Daredevil," starring Charlie Cox as the titular blind lawyer-turned-vigilante, was widely praised for its gritty tone, compelling storytelling, and intense action sequences. However, its abrupt cancellation left many storylines unresolved, leading to disappointment among its devoted fanbase. With "Daredevil: Born Again," Disney has the opportunity to address the lingering issues and give fans the closure they crave. The challenge, however, lies in maintaining the dark and mature themes that made the original series a hit while aligning with Disney's typically more family-friendly approach. If recent leaks are to be believed, Disney seems committed to embracing the spirit of the Netflix series, potentially creating a seamless transition for the fans. Adding to the intrigue, there's another rumor swirling around the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – the potential return of "Iron Fist," but with a twist. Speculation suggests that the character, previously portrayed by Finn Jones in the Netflix series, might be reimagined with a female lead. This move could breathe new life into the character, addressing some of the criticisms faced by the original series, particularly regarding its handling of cultural representation and martial arts authenticity. Both "Daredevil: Born Again" and the rumored "Iron Fist" reboot represent Disney's continued efforts to integrate the Netflix Marvel characters into the broader MCU. By potentially continuing the storylines and possibly recasting key roles, Disney is signaling its commitment to both honoring the source material and pushing the envelope. As with any beloved franchise, the pressure is on for Disney to deliver something that satisfies both longtime fans and new viewers. The question remains: can they pull it off and redeem what some considered a "train wreck"? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure – the MCU is about to get even more interesting. Daredevil is not the only Netflix series confirmed now as MCU canon - the entire Defenders saga can be seen within the MCU Timeline on Disney+. This is a big deal for fans of the Netflix shows who have called for them to be canonized for years. The Defenders shows fit into the timeline starting with Daredevil after I Am Groot and ending with The Punisher before Doctor Strange. There's also a rumor Deborah Ann Wolf and Elden Hansen are set to return as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson in Daredevil: Born Again. Trekkies will soon see their favorite franchise back on the big screen with director Toby Haynes on the bridge in the captain's chair. Haynes recently directed several episodes of the Star Wars hit show Andor. With Seth Grahame-Smith writing and JJ Abrams' Bad Robot producing, it has been 8 years since the last Star Trek movie - though this one is to take place decades before the 2009 Star Trek movie plot. Paramount has had recent Star Trek success in the television world, streaming Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Picard, and Discovery. Though this prequel may not show the Chris Pine-led cast we are used to seeing, there are still plans to have a final movie with that crew in the future. We keep talking about Tom Cruise and now for an even bigger announcement…a Top Gun 3 movie is officially in development to bring back that loving feeling. Top Gun: Maverick writer Ethan Kruger is already writing for the new installment and sources report director Joe Kosinski will also be back to pilot the film. This news comes to us shortly after the partnership announced with Cruise and Warner Bros. Discovery. Top Gun: Maverick raked in an astounding $1.5 billion in 2022 and Cruise looks like he's willing to continue the legacy with a third film. Rumors are flying that DC Studios will begin their search for a Supergirl actress soon. In the mix for frontrunners we have Milly Aycock of house of the dragon, Emilia Jones from Coda and Locke and Key, and Meg Donnelly of the Zombies franchise and DC Animation where she plays supergirl. James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the Supergirl, Woman of Tomorrow movie in 2022 based on the comics by Tom King. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, the director and writer of the 2002 zombie horror film 28 Days Later, are reuniting for 28 Years Later, a sequel to the original. The pair are hoping to launch a trilogy of films set in the universe. Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss opened up for the first time about their canceled Star Wars movie in the cover story for last week's Hollywood Reporter, stating that the concept for their film dealt with the rise of the first Jedi and how the Jedi Order came to be. The Last of Us Season 2 has cast Beef star Young Mazino as Jesse. The series is expected to start production soon. Isabela Merced has also been cast as Dina. Barbie and Shang-Chi star Simu Liu will host the 2024 People's Choice Awards which will air live on NBC, E!, and Peacock on February 18. Director David Gordon Green, who was initially set to direct a sequel to last year's Exorcist: Believer titled Exorcist: Deceiver, has exited the project. Universal originally planned for the film to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, but the timetable is now unclear as the studio searches for a new director. Noah Hawley, the showrunner of the upcoming FX series "Alien," revealed in an interview that the series is set on Earth approximately 70 years in the future, preceding the events of the original film series. Despite discussions with Ridley Scott, Hawley explained that he won't incorporate the backstory from "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" into his series, expressing a preference for the original films' retro-futuristic technology over the more advanced tech featured in the prequels.
