Sadness in the Anime USA community, a police officer was busted for taking upskirt shots at Anime Central, a CAPCOM VS. Osamu Tezuka exhibit, and Pokémon-themed streets! Also, Akiba Maid War Animation stage play visuals are out, Yen Press's latest acquisition from MCM London Comic Con, Anime Expo® announces more guests, and the Agency for Cultural Affairs website lists manga pirate site URLs for 6 months?! Meanwhile in Japan, sushi starts revolving again in Japan's largest revolving sushi restaurant and new English textbooks are crap. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/animejamsession/support

s08e04: In Conversation with writer CULLEN BUNN ** Originally Livestreamed on YouTube, Sunday 6th September 2020 ** Cullen Bunn is somebody I've been wanting to get on the podcast for literally years, certainly since a very brief 'passing of ships in the night' at MCM London Comic Con in 2018. A fantastic writer of comics, short stories and novels, Cullen is a born storyteller with work crossing all styles and genres, published under the banner of pretty much every company under the sun. But he is somebody who relishes in interacting with the fans at conventions so it'll be fascinating to hear how he has been coping in a year with comic cons. It is an epic bumper podcast on Geektown Radio this week as I'm joined by Bex from TristaBytes to chat about MCM London Comic-Con! We both spent a fabulous (if rather tiring) three days at the ExCel Centre in London checking out all manner of geekiness, from indie comic books, to card games about sandwiches, and some amazing panels. We talk 'Pennyworth', the new 'Alex Rider' series, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat's 'Dracula', and Netflix's 'The Witcher'. We also have the usual weekly tv and film news, along with a look at the next week on tv, and the panel from upcoming Apple TV+ series 'See'.'See' is set in the far future, where a virus has decimated humankind. Those who survived emerged blind. Jason Momoa stars as Baba Voss, the father of twins born centuries later with the mythic ability to see – who must protect his tribe against a powerful yet desperate queen who believes it’s witchcraft and wants them destroyed. Alfre Woodard (‘Luke Cage’) stars as Paris, Baba Voss’ spiritual leader, along with Yadira Guevara-Prip, Sylvia Hoeks, Nesta Cooper, Archie Madekwe, Christian Camargo, Hera Hilmar and Marilee Talkington. The panel consisted of creator Steven Knight (‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Taboo’), director Francis Lawrence (‘The Hunger Games’ films, ‘I Am Legend’), Jason Momoa, Alfre Woodard, and Archie Madekwe. We are back on the Geektown Radio podcast, as Ross returns for the first time in a while to review the week's tv and discuss the all the stuff we saw whilst he was in Japan, and I was down at MCM London Comic Con. We also have a stack of interviews this week with the cast and crew of Amazon Prime Original Series 'Good Omens'.On the podcast, you can hear interviews with 'Good Omens' stars David Tennant & Michael Sheen who play the Angel Aziraphale and the Demon Crowley, along with Adria Arjona (‘Emerald City’, ‘True Detective’) who plays the fabulously named Anathema Device. We also managed to talk to director Douglas Mackinnon, producer Rob Wilkins, writer and co-author of the novel, Neil Gaiman, and (because he was there, so why wouldn’t you grasp a chance to talk with him…) Monty Python legend, Terry Gilliam.Based on the beloved book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, ‘Good Omens’ follows an unlikely duo, a fussy Angel (Michael Sheen, ‘Masters of Sex’) and a loose-living Demon (David Tennant, ‘Doctor Who’) who’ve become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon. But they have lost the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware he’s meant to bring upon the end of days, forcing them to embark on an adventure to find him and save the world before it’s too late. This is season 6 episode 11 broadcast on Sunday 4th November, one week after MCM London Comic Con and six days before the crucial San Diego Comic Con Open Online Badge Registration, basically the general sale and the last chance for anyone to land badges to next years event. As is our want, we split the show into to two, the latter half talking the badge sale, but for the start we bring on special guest CJ who is one of the host of the Live Stage at MCM. It was great to talk to CJ as it gave a real perspective on how the show changed and evolved specifically over the past twelve months, under the auspices of ReedPOP. And we also have regular contributor Mark Searby chiming in as well - a fun show, this one. The jewel in the crown of the MCM / ReedPOP convention schedule, The MCM London Comic Con - taking over the ExCel Centre in London's Docklands over the weekend of Friday 26th-Sunday 28th October - was truly a breathtaking collection of the world's best media creators, from the world of comics, to manga/anime, to film and television, to role-playing and beyond. It was truly a sight to behold. And An Englishman In San Diego was part of it! Leonard Sultana hosted a number of panels and presentations at the show, both on the Comic Stage, the Centre Stage and also at a couple of satellite panels for invited VIP's - these are those recordings! The CBLDF (Comic Book Legal Defence Fund), represented by Alex Cox at the show, charged MCM to hold a roundtable discussion about the current state of comics coming from the US, taking on board recent arguments and conflicts within both fandoms, readership and creators themselves about diversity and representation, about the stemming of the tide of apparent falling sales and the landscape of comics, especially in regards to what are called the Big Two (Marvel & DC) and beyond. It was a fascinating conversation, in which Leonard was joined by Tara Ferguson, who works within the US and direct market with many creatives, retailers and publishers, and Lauren Klasik, representing one of the most exciting independent publishers on the shelves today, Zenescope Entertainment. Enjoy! Intro Music: 'Punky', bensounds.com

A true titan in the world of creative comic endeavours... but Chris Claremont was determined that, while we talked about his formative years in the industry and his many groundbreaking storylines as X-MEN writer over the years, we looked forward to his future output, not making this some kind of end-of-career Lifetime Achievement Panel! Here, Chris talks about his relationship with not only others in the industry but with the characters themselves, as he continues to play a role in their development and on-going legacy. And he spills the beans on a couple of storylines that could've been!! A cracking chat - enjoy! Intro Music: 'Punky', bensounds.com

On the Geektown Radio podcast this week, we have a very Con-lagged Dave and Bex as we talk all things MCM London Comic Con! It was a brilliant three days in the UK capital celebrating all sorts of assorted geekery. We chat about the Con in general, the guests, the interviews, the comic book creators, and of course, the cosplay. We also have the press panel interview from MCM with 'Doctor Who' star, Paul McGann. Paul McGann has starred in a host of tv, film, theatre and audio dramas over the years, but in our geeky circles, is best known as the 8th incarnation of The Doctor. Whilst he only appeared on screen in the 1996 television film (and reprised the role for 'The Night of the Doctor' mini-episode), he has been playing the part in the Big Finish audiobooks for years. Technically, he is the longest-serving Doctor, despite having the shortest amount of screen time. He's also famous for his part in classic British film 'Withnail and I', and has appeared tv shows such as 'The Bletchley Circle', 'Waking the Dead', and 'Holby City'.In the interview, he chats about his time as The Doctor, shooting the "film" (although, as he points out, it was really a tv pilot), and what he thinks of the current incarnation. He also discusses the 'Withnail and I' drinking game...Also On This Week's Show:I'm joined by Bex of TristaBytes in the co-host seat this week, so we chat about the tv shows, games, films and, of course, MCM Comic Con.We take a look at all the latest tv & film news, including renewals & cancellations. We give you our recommendations for upcoming TV in the next 7 days.
