This episode offers a lot to talk about, so we kept the intro really short - if you jump to about 14:55 you'll get to the recap. But if you do jump there, you'll miss... well, not that much. Marvel news is light this week and the Marvel joke book is truly punishing. There's actually a bit of DC talk on this Marvel podcast. In this episode of Marvelvision Derek and Devin talk about how to say Monica Rambeau's name, her history as Captain Marvel and Photon and more, they talk about why Devin is so angry at Avengers Endgame and they invite angry responses by talking dirty about the Marvel Netflix shows, which have a very dedicated fanbase. Welcome to our latest show; we hope wherever you are in the world as you read this or indeed listen to us you are keeping safe and well during these upside down times. This week's show is all about the Marvel Netflix series that were stand alone and yet set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The stories followed heroes in the city of New York; Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, the immortal Iron Fist and The Punisher. There were many seasons across each character and one team up spectacular called The Defenders. However a dispute between Netflix and Disney saw these shows end and now we are all left wondering what will happen once the rights expire and Disney / Marvel Studio's can bring the characters back to us again. We hope you enjoy the show!

Welcome back fellow Gothamites, Defenders, Angels and Demons, Boys and Girls and fellow Watchers. We're taking a look back at all the shows we discussed last year and give a sneak peak at the new shows we're covering in next year. Join us for our 2019 Recap and 2020 preview podcast. All the shows we discussed in 2019 and one of the shows we'll be discussing in 2020. 1. Gotham: Season Five (Fox TV US) After five years and one hundred episodes our first ever show came to an end on Fox in 2019. We discussed the show for almost 150 episodes on Gotham TV podcast. Even though these twelve episodes we're perfect there were a lot of great moments for the cast we've loved talking about for six years. Goodbye Gotham 2. Punisher Season 2 (Netflix) It was also the second and final season of The Punisher on Netflix. As each of the Marvel Netflix shows finished we got closer and closer to the end of Defenders TV Podcast. Jon Bernthal totally embodied Frank Castle this year and we hope we see more of him in the future. Farewell Frank Castle 3. Good Omens (Amazon Prime) Based on a 1990 book written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett this was the first show we covered on Amazon Prime. From the casting of Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as his earthbound devilish counterpart Crowley this show was a fantastic endeavour. We loved every second of chatting about this show. 4. Jessica Jones Season 3 (Netflix) Jessica Jones was the final show commited to Netflix from Marvel. The main cast of Krysten Ritter, Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville, Rebecca De Mornay and Carrie-Anne Moss were on top form throughout the season. With the addition of new office temp Gillian (Aneesh Sheth), possible love interest Erik Gelden (played by Benjamin Walker) and a new type of villain Sallinger (Jeremy Bobb) the show went out on a high. 5. Pennyworth Season 1 (EPIX) In July the creators of Gotham, Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon returned to the DC Batverse for a story of the early years of Alfred Pennyworth. Opening with a star making turn from Paloma Faith as Peggy Sykes the ten episode series was a blast. In a reimagined version of London we saw what the DC universe would do to the city. The show started slow but after a twist death in episode three it went from strength to strength. We're excited for season two in 2020. 6. The Boys (Amazon Prime) Based on the comic series from Garth Ennis Amazon made a bid for the most adult show of the year with The Boys. From flying dolphins to crashing planes Season 1 of the show was balls to the wall. But what surprised us was how much heart showrunner Erik Kripke was able to get out into the show. An absolute highlight of our year. 7. Watchmen (HBO and Sky Atlantic) It was an uphill battle for the Watchmen from the start. Based on a series of comic books that everybody from The New York Times to local comic shop owners have recommended for decades it was going to the be tough. But this sequel from Damon Lindelof and a team of extraordinary writers delivered far more than we all hoped. If this season is all we see from the Watchmen it will have been worth every moment. What's coming in 2020? Star Trek: Picard (Amazon Prime) From January 2020 we'll be going where we've never been before. We will be joining Patrick Stewart and his pit-bull discussing every episode about Star Trek Picard. We're so excited to see how the story of Jean-Luc Picard continues. The show will include special appearances from Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirts and Jeri Ryan but it is a brand new story in a new time for the characters. Engage! When you listen to today’s academy award winning guest, you’ll likely wonder how she manages to balance executive producing award-winning films, appearing as a series regular and recurring role on multiple TV shows, and raising a one-year-old. The answer, as Jaime Ray Newman shares today, is surprisingly simple. With the help of her creative community and collaborator-husband Guy Nativ, she’s managed to build a body of work that captures humanity with breathtaking honesty. From the Academy Award winning short, SKIN, to her upcoming role in the series, LITTE FIRES EVERYWHERE with Reese Witherspoon, she shares her journey and how she’s gone from creating her own theatre company at 16 in Michigan, to building a life in Los Angeles telling dynamics stories with prolific artists.  As an actress, Newman has been working steadily for almost 20 years. She was a series regular on multiple TV series, including The Punisher for Marvel/ Netflix, Midnight, Texas for NBC, Bates Motel for A&E, Eastwick (based on The Witches of Eastwick) for ABC, Eureka for SYFY, and most recently Midnight, Texas for NBC. Newman will next be seen in the feature film Valley of the Godsdirected by Lech Majewski, starring opposite Josh Hartnett and John Malkovich, and Midnight Climax directed by Joseph Sorrentino.  As a producer, Newman and her husband, filmmaker Guy Nattiv, run New Native Pictures. Their short film SKIN won the 2019 Academy Award® for Best Live Action Short, along with many festivals around the world. Manuel Billeter discusses his early career and getting his big break working in post production editing “Y Tu Mama También” for director Alfonso Cuarón, who encouraged him to pursue a path in cinematography. He talks about the high profile series he's worked on, such as “Law and Order,” and “Person of Interest,” how a show getting canceled or getting fired can lead to better opportunities, working in urban settings with night exteriors and the incredible energy it can generate. When creating the unique noir feel for “Jessica Jones” and “Luke Cage,” Manuel loved the look of sodium vapor streetlights, but most of New York has converted to LED lights, so each individual streetlight was gelled to get the yellower look.
