Jimmy Palmiotti has worn just about every hat in comics, artist, writer, editor, publisher, and creator, but today we're focusing on some of the stories that have defined his career and some exciting new work hitting shelves right now.Jimmy joins us to talk about his latest return to Marvel's hardest-edged vigilante in the new Punisher miniseries with artist Dan Panosian. We'll discuss Frank Castle's latest mission, the collaboration with Dan, and what makes the Punisher such a compelling character decades after his debut. We'll also dive into Jimmy's Daredevil/Punisher crossover series, bringing together two heroes whose ideas of justice couldn't be more different. Then we'll look back at one of Jimmy's most celebrated runs, his long partnership with Justin Gray on Jonah Hex and All-Star Western. From weird western adventures and horror stories to the streets of Gotham in the Old West, those books helped redefine what a western comic could be and remain fan favorites to this day.And we'll wrap up with Denver, the acclaimed creator-owned graphic novel from Jimmy and Justin Gray that's now back in print through Mad Cave Studios. We'll talk about revisiting the book, why its themes still resonate, and what it means to see a new generation of readers discover the story.

This week on Fantastic Forum, we are taking a look at two very different stories making waves in comics and streaming. First up is The Punisher: One Last Kill on Disney Plus, the gritty new Marvel special starring Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. Pulled back into a war he tried to leave behind, Castle finds himself facing old enemies, unfinished business, and one final mission soaked in violence and reckoning. We are breaking down whether Bernthal's return delivers the brutal intensity fans have been waiting for and how this story fits into Marvel's darker corner of the universe. Then we turn to If Destruction Be Our Lot #1 from Image Comics, written by Matthew Rosenberg and Mark Elijah Rosenberg with art by Andy MacDonald, colors by Francesco Segala, and letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. Set in a future where humanity is extinct and only the robots left behind remain, the story follows an animatronic Abraham Lincoln named Abe who begins questioning the empty routine of a machine-run world. Blending existential sci-fi and dark humor, the oversized debut explores what it means to keep searching for something more when everything else is gone. Welcome to our show discussing The Punisher special presentation on Disney+ from Marvel studios. The Punisher aka Frank Castle is in a bad head space... and then while we are getting our head around that but while still trying to work out when this is happening as continuity is confusing... he has a John Wick style one against 1000 fight and its violent and brutal... with some dodgy CGI and then its over... This was advertised as a special and was the length of an average episode of episodic TV; yet had the plot points and story of a film / mini series... Some very odd decisions in making this BUT we discuss it and hope you all enjoy our chat!

Do it right, or don't do it at all. In episode 179, Nick Koumalatsos returns to Veteran Made to talk about his work as a consulting producer on The Punisher: One Last Kill and his collaboration with Jon Bernthal to bring Frank Castle back to the screen with honesty, weight, and realism. Nick shares how his own background as a Force Recon Marine and special operations veteran helped shape the character, from the tactical details to the deeper emotional truth of a man who has lost his identity, his purpose, and the people who mattered most to him. We talk about how Nick's book, Excommunicated Warrior, influenced parts of Frank's arc, why the story needed to show rock bottom instead of explain it, and what it means to portray veterans and special operations service members as human beings rather than untouchable icons. We also get into the craft behind the film itself — working with Jon Bernthal and the stunt team to build realistic action sequences, refining weapons manipulation and close quarter combat, and understanding the difference between what is real in life and what reads as real on camera. This is a conversation about transition, accountability, purpose, brotherhood, pain, and the responsibility of telling these stories the right way in the most grounded depiction of a modern veteran in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. An evil-looking mustache! Troubling goth makeup! Danny Masterson getting beat up for being a creep! A heart attack-inducing evil stare! Chekhov's butterfly knife! Snazzy suits and golden guns! Reused props from the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie! Castor Troy's box of fun! Child endangerment! Awkward use of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow!" Efficient establishment of a bitter rivalry! Lengthy explanations of illogical pseudo science! Copious melodrama! Possibly the least subtle use of mirrors you've ever seen! Random sci-fi elements! Highly quotable lines! Bold parenting strategies! Hand waterfalls!  Multiple amazing action set-pieces including an opening sequence that lesser movies would save for the finale! Environmental destruction, explosions, stunts, and sparks for days! Legendary filmmaker John Woo let loose with a big Hollywood budget, delivering a dose of pure cinematic adrenaline, that despite its somewhat silly reputation is a masterclass in action filmmaking! All that plus Nicolas Cage and John Travolta perfectly matching each other's crazy in the best body swap movie ever made! Come for the overacting, stay for the over-the-top action! In addition, the gang shares their spoiler-free thoughts on Mortal Kombat II with Karl Urban, The Punisher: One Last Kill, Robert Rodriguez's Once Upon a Time In Mexico, Hokum, Ben Affleck's Live by Night, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Paul W. S. Anderson's Soldier, Donnie Yen's The Prosecutor, and the Korean action/crime drama series on Netflix, Bloodhounds! Geek Freaks is back with a packed episode covering the latest Lanterns trailer, the return of Westworld, new release dates for VisionQuest and Crystal Lake, and a full review of Punisher: One Last Kill. Frank and Squeaks break down what the new DC footage could mean for Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and the larger Green Lantern mythology. The episode also gets into what a new Westworld movie needs to do differently from the HBO series, how VisionQuest could bring Ultron and Wanda back into play, and whether a Deathstroke and Bane movie could actually work as a darker action comedy. The back half shifts into Punisher: One Last Kill, Dungeon Crawler Carl, network updates, and weekly recommendations. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Back in the Studio!, CCS Recap, and Convention Stories 02:35 Question of the Week: Posters and Box Art That Started a Fandom 05:08 Lanterns Trailer Reaction and Green Lantern Theories 16:25 Westworld Movie Announcement and Franchise Potential 25:00 VisionQuest and Crystal Lake Release Date Discussion 31:42 Deathstroke and Bane Movie Talk 37:26 Punisher: One Last Kill Review 44:24 Dungeon Crawler Carl, Network Updates, and Weekly Recommendations Key Takeaways The new Lanterns trailer sparked a big discussion about whether the show can balance grounded detective drama with the cosmic scale fans expect from Green Lantern. Frank and Squeaks dig into Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and the possibility that the series could explore the morality and purpose of the Green Lantern Corps. The newly announced Westworld movie has Frank excited because the franchise can work as a smaller survival story set against a much bigger sci-fi collapse. VisionQuest and Crystal Lake landing back-to-back in October could make for a huge week of Marvel and horror viewing. The Deathstroke and Bane movie raises questions about tone, especially with Greg Mottola's comedy background, but the hosts see potential if it leans into a Suicide Squad style dynamic. Punisher: One Last Kill earns praise for its action, Jon Bernthal's performance, and emotional shift for Frank Castle, though Frank wanted more story before the ending. Quotes "Some of these games are just developed by one person, and what they do with that lack of help is phenomenal." "That's the Lanterns trailer they should have released first." "I think that's the button we're going to see: what is the morality of Green Lanterns?" "We got bad taste with how the HBO series ended, but I think we all fell in love with how it started." "The action was phenomenal. The killings were great. It got straight to the point." It's 1986 and the cereal is sugary, the TV knob is warm, and the Saturday morning cartoon wars are officially underway! Shua and Jay travel back to the golden age of animated chaos to decide which network truly ruled the weekend lineup. From Muppet Babies and Real Ghostbusters to Schoolhouse Rock and Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n Wrestling, the guys relive the cartoons, commercials, trivia, and unforgettable memories that made Saturday mornings legendary. Plus, Jay quizzes Shua on Schoolhouse Rock in a battle for educational cartoon supremacy.   News Atari has officially acquired the legendary RPG franchise Wizardry, bringing the classic BASIC-coded dungeon crawler under the company's retro gaming banner.   Nintendo surprised fans with a special "Star Fox Direct" presentation that officially confirmed a brand-new Star Fox game for the Nintendo Switch 2.   Top Gun fans can celebrate the film's 40th anniversary with collectible Maverick and Goose helmet popcorn buckets available during opening showings.   Star Tours: Last Launch is an impressive fan-made film packed with love for Disney Parks and Star Wars, including appearances from several franchise legends. Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying Jay checked out Daredevil: Born Again along with Punisher: One More Kill on Disney+, and found the new season to be a major improvement with smoother storytelling and stronger pacing. The gritty tone was intense and the Punisher special delivered exactly the kind of brutal action fans expect from Frank Castle. Shua sampled the new Firecracker Pop Oreos inspired by the classic red, white, and blue Rocket Pops, and somehow they actually taste remarkably close to the frozen treat. They're sugary, nostalgic, and absolutely worth trying at least once for the novelty alone.     Sci-Fi Saturdays -  This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay focuses on the 2020 time-loop comedy Palm Springs. He explains how the movie unexpectedly became the perfect film for audiences during the COVID lockdown era, with its themes of repetition, isolation, and emotional burnout resonating in a strangely timely way. He also praises the clever writing from Andy Siara and the direction from Max Barbakow for taking the familiar time-loop concept and making it feel fresh, funny, and surprisingly philosophical. The film balances absurd comedy with meaningful emotional depth, elevating it beyond a typical indie comedy. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. This week he's added some new locations from Daredevil: Born Again season 2. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.   Enjoy Saturdays in 1986!  This week, Shua and Jay climb aboard the nostalgia rocket and head straight back to the glorious cartoon battleground of 1986 Saturday mornings. We explore the origins of Saturday morning cartoons from the earliest days of Crusader Rabbit all the way through the animation boom created by Hanna-Barbera and the toy-driven explosion of the 1980s.   Then it's time to choose a channel as we break down the legendary 1986 lineups from ABC, CBS, and NBC featuring classics like The Real Ghostbusters, Muppet Babies, The Smurfs, Pound Puppies, Kidd Video, and more. Along the way they relive the cereal-fueled excitement of planning your morning around the TV schedule, revisit the magic of Schoolhouse Rock, and test cartoon knowledge with a hilarious trivia showdown.   How did you do on the SHR quiz? What cereal goes well with Kissyfur? Let us know! First person that emails me with the subject line, "Unpack your adjectives" will get a special mention on the show.  Let us know. Granny's Peach Tea – Episode 233: The Boys, The Punisher, and One Last MessGranny's Peach Tea is back with Episode 233, and Ed and Jason are once again walking straight into spoiler territory like two guys who saw a warning sign and said, “Yeah, but what if we ignored that completely?”This week, the guys dive into their spoiler discussion of The Boys Season 5, Episode 7, breaking down the latest madness, betrayals, blood, chaos, and whatever emotionally unstable nightmare fuel this show decided to throw at everyone right before the finish line. With the season barreling toward the end, there's plenty to unpack, question, scream about, and probably blame on Homelander because, honestly, that usually works. Then the conversation shifts to The Punisher: One Last Kill, because apparently one violent, morally messy franchise wasn't enough for this episode. Ed and Jason dig into Frank Castle's latest round of revenge, punishment, trauma, and questionable life choices — you know, the usual lighthearted Punisher stuff for a peaceful afternoon. It's spoilers, mayhem, superheroes behaving badly, vigilantes behaving worse, and Ed and Jason trying to make sense of it all without needing a full emotional reset afterward.#TheBoysSeason5 #ThePunisher #ThePunisherOneLastKill #GrannysPeachTea #PopCulturePros

It's our 600th episode! And we're marking this auspicious occasion with one of our more random episodes. Here's what we reviewed this week on Breakfast All Day: MORTAL KOMBAT II. This sequel was a huge hit last weekend, so we decided to catch up with it. Plus, we apparently reviewed the first "Mortal Kombat" five years ago, which wasn't a particularly memorable experience for either of us. Karl Urban IS Johnny Cage. As video game adaptations go, it's not terrible, but it's also not stupid enough. In theaters. MARTY, LIFE IS SHORT. The delightful Martin Short is the subject of this warm and affectionate documentary. Name someone you love from the Canadian comedy world and they're probably in this movie. Lawrence Kasdan's film features intimate home movies and candid interviews. Streaming on Netflix. THE PUNISHER: ONE LAST KILL. This one-off installment in the Punisher franchise finds Frank Castle contending with old demons and taking on new foes. Jon Bernthal is a formidable presence as always, and he co-wrote the script with director Reinaldo Marcus Green. Streaming now on Disney+. This is the kind of TV recap we do every week on our Breakfast All Day Patreon, so if you enjoyed this conversation, come join us here. Thanks for hanging out with us! Keep an eye out next week for reviews of "The Mandalorian and Grogu," "Obsession" and more. Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/
