Happy Valentine's Day!Mrs Murray met the UK StrikeFans.com contingent and Badly WiredLamp (“and friends”) on Thursday to talk about the Cormoran Strike novels. Yesterday, Friday the 13th, Rowling tweeted about the secret she had told them — the title of Strike9:Nick Jeffery found the most likely source of the title Sleep Tight, Evangeline, assuming it is not an anagram, in six minutes:BadlyWiredLamp who was at the Rowling meeting congratulated Nick on twixter seven minutes later: “Well done for finding it Nick!” with a hand salute emoji. Which semi-confirmation from a witness suggests he is spot on.Even more impressive, Nick wrote up a flash post about The Whiskey Shambles and other ‘Evangeline' possibilities at the HogwartsProfessor weblog, ‘Sleep Tight, Evangeline – Title Release for Strike 9.' Nick and John will be discussing this news as well as the Psalter and Head of Persephone charms with miniature book, Tolkien, and mythology expert Dimitra Fimi this weekend for a post here next week. See her ‘Miniature Books in Children's Fantasy' to prepare for that conversation. Stay tuned! But it's Valentine's Day! John and Nick celebrate this Hallmark Holiday with a journey through the Cormoran Strike novels' V-Day celebrations and a discussion of the various Valentines and Cupid's in the story, with special emphasis on the Cupid and Psyche myth that Rowling has suggested is the series story template. That suggestion came the week after Hallmarked Man's publication in the first of her Public Service Announcements to “Robin and Strike fans:”This image came as a surprise even to Hogwarts Professor subscribers because, though we have been writing and talking about the Cupid and Psyche myth as one of the mythological templates behind the Strike series since early 2021, it was the first time Rowling had acknowledged this publicly. Since the September revelation of this connection by the author and the appearance of the head of Persephone at the end of her Strike9 clues Christmas Charm bracelet, Strike fandom is now on board with the idea. Which on-boarding Nick and John celebrate with this Hearts and Flowers conversation, in which:* Nick reviews the Valentines Day events in the Strike series, the importance of which makes 14 February to Serious Strikers what Halloween is to Harry Potter fans;* John discusses the post American Bar office scene in Troubled Blood that let the cat out of the bag about the Cupid and Psyche myth just beneath the Strellacott romance;* Nick updates that with Rowling's PSAs and charm pointers to the Trials of Psyche in Robin's story;* John lays out how and where Hallmarked Man features Valentine Longcaster, the character with the Cupid name, and a Valentine's Day conflict with dogs to Guard the Gates of Hell (from charting Parts Five and Six);* Nick journeys back to Cuckoo's Calling and explains how Lula Landry's death and Robin's first meeting with Strike are twist on Cupid and Psyche with Venus, Psyche, and Cupid, Hephaestus, and Ares all with their equivalents in Charlotte, Robin, and Cormoran;* John ups the ante of the conversation by bringing in Edmund Spenser and C. S. Lewis, two writers Rowling loves, both of whom wrote stories that turn on Cupid and Psyche, and suggesting that Galbraith, in using the Eros-Anteros distinction of those writers in the Strike series is answering allegorically the core question of human life: whether to focus the soul on the ephemeral body and its desires or on the noetic faculty of soul, the Heart, logos within us;* Nick and John then discuss Robin and Strike's individual relationships Cuckoo to Hallmarked in light of Cupid-False Cupid and taking turns going through the Strike novels with a look at the principal murder victim and murderer and their respective relationships;* John shares the Jungian interpretation of Cupid and Psyche as the mythic representation of feminine actualization, the chrysalis of female identity;* And more!Below are the links to posts on this subject mentioned in their back and forth and to a translation of the original myth. Happy Valentines Day — and stand by for more discussion of Sleep Tight, Evangeline, the Psalter and Persephone Charms, and all things Strike and Mythology with Dimitra Fimi.Links Mentioned in the Valentines Day Celebration Conversation:Rowling Points to Myth of Cupid and Psyche in order to Console Strike Fans Disappointed with Hallmarked Man (8 September 2025, Nick Jeffery)Nick shares the context of Rowling's tweet (fan disappointment!) and the background information about the illustration she chose for it.The Most Pleasant and Delectable Tale of the Marriage of Cupid and Psyche (Apuleius)A translation of the Silver Age Latin tale from Apuleius' Golden Ass.A Mythological Key to Cormoran Strike? The Myth of Eros, Psyche, and Venus (22 April 2021, John Granger)The first post to discuss Rowling's use of this specific myth within Cormoran Strike, it is essential reading and comes in four parts:* a discussion of Rowling's stated beliefs about the soul and how it is the focus of her story-telling,* a review of her psychological artistry in Potter and the post Potter novels and screenplays,* a synopsis of the Eros and Psyche myth, and* a point to point look at the parallels in the story thus far with speculation about novels to come.Robin's Two Perfumes: The Meaning of Philosychos and Narciso (9 June 2021, John Granger)The names of Robin's baseline perfume, Philosychos, and the one she and Strike choose at story's end, Narciso, both point less to the bedroom than to Robin's allegorical, psychological, and mythological role as Psyche in the series.Erich Neumann in his Amor and Psyche: The Psychic Development of the Feminine describes this discipline as a “prohibition against pity” which “signifies Psyche's struggle against the feminine nature.” …Psyche's last trial involves her having to confront death, a “marriage” to which she was condemned as a sacrifice at the story's start, a meeting she can only survive by transcending her feminine qualities of nurturing and pity. She must become, if only temporarily, a narcissist to pass through Hades and return to the world of the Sun and to Cupid. The myth, in Jungian lights, is about her transcending the accidental self, here her feminine and sexual relation to Eros or Cupid, for “ego-stability” leading to “individuation,” ascent to the greater, immortal Self.Robin as resident psychologist and loving soul is the Psyche-cipher of the Strike mysteries. She differs from the relatively passive Human Beauty of the myth in her active and determined “struggle against the feminine nature,” her “What. I. Do!” She not only wrestles with her desires for domesticity and maternity in her thinking but stands up to Strike-Cupid in their Valentine's Day Street Fight and demands his respect or at least more considerate behavior. But she is still struggling with her difficulty to be the narcissist rather than the Great Mother when circumstances and her heroine's journey of psychological individuation demand that.Reading Rowling as Myth Maker and Myth Re-Writer: A Conversation with Dr Dimitra FimiNick Jeffery and John Granger converse with Dr Dimitra Fimi about Harry Potter, Cormoran Strike, Tolkien, Jane Eyre, and the Mythological Artistry of J. K. Rowling, Hogwarts Saga to Hallmarked ManThe Hallmarked Man's Mythological Template‘Cupid and Psyche's importance for grasping the depths of Strike 8, from the “necessity” of the Silver Vault and the three men in Robin's life, to spaghetti carbonara and ‘Maid of the Silver Sea'Ink Black Heart: The Mythic Backdrop (10 September 2022, John Granger)What Rowling is depicting in Robin's journey through the events and mystery of Ink Black Heart include a trap set by Venus, one that takes Robin to a personal and professional underworld or hell, her survival and endurance of every temptation by her determination to be steely rather than empathetic, especially with respect to a certain “lame fellow” (!), and her re-surfacing from hell a changed person, one worthy of begrudging Venereal approval (or Zeus' intervention — Rokeby!).Ink Black Heart: Strike as Zeus to Robin's Leda and Cupid to Mads' Psyche (10 November 2022, John Granger)These traditional portrayals of the every person's human and divine aspects, soul and spirit as man and woman in dynamic, cathartic relationship — think Romeo and Juliet, Redcrosse Knight and Una, Cupid and Psyche — are perhaps, with her alchemical symbolism, sequencing, and coloring, Rowling's greatest literary ‘reach' and achievement in the Strike series, albeit one largely lost on her her vast reading audience. The deliberate conjunction-melange of archetypal psychology, mythology, and spiritual allegory in these novels is, especially in combination with her hermetic artistry, intertextual playfulness (Aurora Leigh!), and chiastic structures, testimony to the author being one of the most accomplished and challenging writers of the age in addition to the most popular (and least well understood, even by her fans).Hallmarked Man: Freemasonry and J. K. Rowling (7 February 2024, Nick Jeffery)The Royal Arch degree is unique in England for including the ceremony of “Passing the Veils” symbolising the path to enlightenment that a mason undergoes as he progresses in the craft. Given Peter Rowling's upward social mobility from working class apprentice to engineer and moving from the Bristol suburbs to middle class Tutshill, it isn't beyond reason to wonder if Peter might have been tempted by the social and career advantages that freemasonry might have offered him and exposed a young Joanne to some of the symbolism.Edinburgh, as well as being the home of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, is also home to if not the oldest lodge in the world, then at least the one with the oldest records. Lodge of Edinburgh (Mary's Chapel) No. 1 has minutes of meetings from 31st July 1599. There have long been arguments between this Lodge and the one in Kilwinning on the other coast of Scotland as to which is the oldest. (see IVº of the Rite of Baldwyn above)J. K. Rowling's ‘G-Spot' and ‘Triple Play:' The Lake & Shed Secret of Her Success (21 September 2024, John Granger)I want to try tonight to explain as succinctly — and as provocatively — as possible why I think Rowling's ‘Lake and Shed' metaphorical explanation of how she writes offers a compelling reason for both why she writes and why readers around the world love her novels the way they do. I call this her ‘G-Spot' and ‘Triple Play' because it is her point of singular genius, the defining quality that separates her from contemporary story-tellers, which involves ‘Shed' artistry of three particular literary tools, all subliminal, which work together to achieve her aims. The Hallmarked Man's Flood of Names, Characters, and Plots (22 September 2025, John Granger)Rowling's seven Shed tools — psychomachia, literary alchemy, ring composition, misdirection towards defamiliarization, Christian symbolism, mythology, and inter-intratextuality (writing about reading and writing) — are all about the transformation of the human soul by cathartic experience in the imaginative heart, i.e., our spiritual reorientation. These traditional tools alone don't do it, of course; her capacity for creating archetypal characters that we care about in profound fashion is what gives the tools their grip on the heart. But, if a writer uses these tools in his or her Shed, the game being played and its stakes are not in question. Everything Rowling has written to date, with greater or lesser success (largely dependent on her control of the final product, cough*Warner Brothers*cough), shares this aim. Her global popularity testifies that much more often than not she hits her target to the delight of her readers.I assume this was her aim in Hallmarked Man. It's early days on the full exegesis of Strike8 in light of Rowling's Shed tools, Lake springs, and Golden Threads, but there are encouraging signs. My third reading of the book included my first ‘Aha!' moments with respect to the mythological template of the series, the Shed tool Rowling was openly urging her readers to think about in her recent Cupid and Psyche tweet.Jungian Interpretations of ‘Cupid and Psyche:'* Erich Neumann: Amor and Psyche: The Psychic Development of the Feminine (A Commentary on the Tale by Apuleius)* Paul Diel: Symbolism in Greek Mythology: Human Desire and Its Transformations (A “psychological study of the symbols condensed in the fate of the mythological hero”)* Robert A. News and Updates (00:6:07) Do you have a Menchie's Frozen Yogurt near you? If so, make sure you stop there on December 10! The new Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 posters depict the giants, Polyphemus, and even the sirens. Did you hear about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians official podcast? Rick is the Indigo Author of the Month, which means it's the perfect time to pick up the Sea of Monsters Deluxe Collector's Edition. (Rick shows off what it looks like on his Instagram.) Illumicrate is reprinting their exclusive Percy Jackson and the Olympians set! This is your sign to pick it up if you missed out last time. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 revisit (00:18:44) It's time to jump into our revisit of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, starting with–you guessed it–episode 1! Walker is so young in these episodes! And Young Percy is masterful in those early scenes (and the later ones, too!). We're still impressed with the CGI in this show. The cabin scene is so emotional–both Walker and Virginia bring their A-Game. Honestly, this pilot is one of the best we've ever seen. Our first question after jumping into episode 2 is whether we'll see the Council of Cloven Elders again. Will we get another montage in season 2 of all the things Percy got better at?? Was Annabeth watching Percy the whole time, or was she following Clarisse instead? How big are the other symbols going to be when kids start getting claimed? Clarisse is a textbook bully, and we're so excited to see her growth in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Grover is smarter than both Chiron and Mr. D, and we'll be taking no objections to that. Episode 3 is fantastic for so many reasons, but especially the growth of the trio's relationship. Percy earned a lot of Annabeth's respect when he talked about why he chose her for the quest. Grover stood up to his friends, and that's super difficult. Percy IS impertinent. Medusa was a standout in this episode–especially her speech about how the gods are the real monsters. Episode 4 begins with Young Percy in the pool and ends with current-day Percy in the river. It's good that Percy got to see that not all mythological creatures are monsters. Will we see more of the Mist in season 2? Echidna was super terrifying, actually. Episode 5 is a standout, for sure. We get Percy and Annabeth's first hug, so mark that down. But the real emotional epicenter of this episode is during the chair scene and Annabeth's speech to Hephaestus. Ares is the worst, but we still kind of love him. “Thank you for the cheeseburgers and the emotional abuse.” Yeah, they're not going to shy away from his abusive relationship with Clarisse. Oh, Leah Jeffries is a PROFESSIONAL. Will they have a callback to this episode once Aphrodite is introduced? Episode 6 brings us to the Lotus Hotel and Casino. We also meet Hermes in this episode, and it's interesting to see Annabeth's interactions with him. We talk about Clarisse a little, too, and how she differs from Annabeth but has her own strengths.. Percy misses out on his dad, unfortunately. In episode 7, we get the long-awaited mattress shop scene, even if it was pretty brief. Cerberus is super cute, and Annabeth is so smart! We don't always love flashbacks, but they work super well in this show. How do we feel about Hades' casting? The best moment from this episode might just be the diner scene when Poseidon shows up. Finally, we talk about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 finale. Percy vs. Ares was awesome, especially that ichor effect. It's amazing to see Percy own his abilities and the relationship with his dad. What did we think of the look of Olympus? Lance Reddick will always be our Zeus. Poseidon totally still has the hots for Sally. We can't help but notice the lighting for the scene between Luke and Percy at the end. Grover's Searcher's license is a flower!! We're so excited for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. It won't be long now! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 147, where we'll recap Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 1, as well as all the latest news. After a period in California doing pre- and post-M&A consulting (including carve-outs linked to the Vivendi break-up), he returned to Japan, became President of Paris Miki, and later pivoted after a Cerberus transaction collapsed on the day of the Lehman shock. He then founded B4F in Japan, building a members-only, online flash-sales model that sources only through official brand channels and emphasises simplicity of operations, trust, and process discipline. Armel Cahierre's leadership story, is less a straight line than a sequence of deliberately chosen reinventions anchored by one constant: clarity of purpose and an intolerance for unnecessary complexity. As Founder and President of B4F, he operates a members-only flash sales platform focused primarily on fashion and lifestyle brands, with time-limited sales and controlled visibility designed to protect brand equity. The proposition is simple for customers and brands alike: members access discounts without prices being exposed to the wider web, and brands clear excess inventory without training the mass market to wait for markdowns. Operationally, the model leans toward discipline—no grey market sourcing, no parallel imports, and minimal exposure to foreign exchange or customs friction by buying and selling in yen. That preference for simple systems was shaped long before e-commerce. Early in his management career, Cahierre was sent into difficult turnaround situations and learned that the fastest route to recovery often begins with information-sharing and dignity. In one formative case, he arrived at a unionised boiler manufacturer with a catastrophic defect cycle and discovered frontline employees had never been told the company's true position. Once he made the economics and the problem visible, alignment followed—less because of charisma, more because people could finally see the same "game board". In Japan, he argues, the same outcomes are possible, but the route is slower and more socially coded. Ideas rarely appear instantly in open forum; trust must be earned, roles must be read correctly, and influence may sit away from formal hierarchy. Where some foreign leaders push targets and individual incentives, he sees higher leverage in process: process KPIs, well-defined routines, and a shared understanding of "how work is done"—a philosophy that maps cleanly onto kaizen, consensus-building, and the reality that nemawashi often precedes the formal ringi-sho. He also warns against confusing "culture" with "excuses": claims that "Japan can't do X" frequently hide uncertainty avoidance, fear of accountability, or simple inertia rather than any immutable national constraint. On technology, Cahierre is pragmatic and a little provocative. If AI is framed as replacing white-collar work, the CEO should not imagine immunity. The agenda, in his view, is training and judgement: equip teams to use AI well (as companies should have done with Excel and PowerPoint years ago), understand where it accelerates work, and retain human decision intelligence where context, responsibility, and ethics matter. Q&A Summary What makes leadership in Japan unique? Cahierre frames Japan's leadership challenge as less about "mystical difference" and more about how alignment is formed. Teams often respond best to clearly defined processes and shared routines, rather than blunt target pressure. Consensus is frequently built informally first—akin to nemawashi—before decisions become visible through formal approval mechanics (the ringi-sho mindset), meaning leaders must manage the unseen steps, not just the outcome. Why do global executives struggle? He sees many global leaders bringing a KPI-and-bonus playbook that freezes people rather than mobilising them. When targets are pushed without an equally clear process map, staff can become defensive, quiet, and risk-minimising—especially in environments where standing out carries social cost. He also calls out a "guru layer" of advice that over-indexes on etiquette and language theatre while ignoring business fundamentals. Is Japan truly risk-averse? His view is more nuanced: behaviour can look risk-averse, but it often reflects uncertainty avoidance and accountability anxiety. Autonomy can feel like exposure. The leader's job is to reduce ambiguity with system clarity, make responsibility safe, and remove the fear that initiative will be punished. What leadership style actually works? He advocates clarity-first leadership: leaders must know why they are in Japan, be able to "cover" for head office rather than hiding behind it, and set simple, easy-to-grasp goals. The style is firm on direction, generous on trust, and disciplined on processes. Praise is handled carefully: group praise in public is often safer, with individual recognition delivered in ways that do not isolate the person. How can technology help? Technology (including AI) is framed as a productivity multiplier when paired with training. Cahierre argues organisations underinvest in capability-building, then pay the price in wasted hours. AI can support decision intelligence, scenario work, and even "digital twins" of operations if used thoughtfully—but banning it is usually counterproductive, especially when younger workers adopt it as a learning partner rather than a shortcut. Does language proficiency matter? Language and cultural literacy help, but Cahierre's sharper point is that leaders should not let "Japan is different" become a shield for poor execution. Credibility is built more through transparency, consistency, and the ability to explain goals and trade-offs than through performative cultural fluency. What's the ultimate leadership lesson? He returns to trust as a strategic choice. Trust creates speed, openness, and a healthier workplace, even if it occasionally leads to disappointment. Distrust creates paralysis. In Japan especially, he argues that trust must be paired with a simple system: clear rules, clear processes, and a leader willing to be transparent about risks without being ruled by worry. A weary wish turns a princess into a raven and launches a map of descent: a forest thick with symbols, an old woman's tempting cup, a heap of alchemical tan, and a precise appointment at 2 PM when the sun's power wanes. We follow that map step by step, using a Grimm story to illuminate the eighth house as lived experience—where unprocessed memory, shame, appetite, and inheritance ask for contact rather than conquest.I walk you through the seeker's predictable failures and the deeper lesson they reveal: the unconscious will not be bullied by willpower. Then the tale widens—endless bread and wine, a name-inscribed ring, and a letter that points toward the Golden Castle of Stromburg. Giants appear as the embodiment of hunger. Instead of slaying them, we feed them, win their help, and unearth an ancient map that remembers what modern maps forgot. That's the eighth house in practice: respect timing, befriend the beast, and let old knowledge guide the next mile.At the base of a glass mountain we wait—a year of vigil—until trickster tools arrive: a staff that opens doors, a mantle of invisibility, and a horse made for impossible slopes. With a touch of Hermes, we ascend. The ring sings in the chalice; the raven-princess and seeker reunite; inner masculine and feminine align. Along the way we thread white, red, and black through the story's veins, and connect ravens, crows, Odin's messengers, Apollo and Coronis, Perseus and Pegasus, and the alchemy of the negrito. If you're navigating Scorpio season or moving through your own eighth house work, this journey offers a practical myth: how to enter, endure, and exit the underworld with something worth bringing back. Broadcast from KSQD, Santa Cruz on 10-30-2025: Dr. Dawn opens with Halloween-themed scary medical stories, beginning with food toxins lurking in refrigerators and pantries. She explains how molds on grains and nuts, particularly Aspergillus species, produce aflatoxins that bind to DNA and cause liver cancer, making peanuts especially risky. Fusarium on wheat produces trichothecenes and fumonisins damaging cell membranes. Penicillium molds on fruits like apples produce patulin creating reactive oxygen species that harm organs. She advises discarding soft moldy foods entirely since fungal hyphae penetrate deeply, while hard cheeses can have moldy portions cut away. Meat spoilage involves bacteria producing cadaverine and putrescine, with E. coli, Campylobacter, Salmonella, and Clostridium causing severe illness through heat-stable toxins. A caller asks about yogurt-covered peanuts tasting rancid and confirms Botox contains botulinum toxin A in different salt forms, used medically for migraines, hyperhidrosis, and strabismus. The caller also describes paper-thin skin on sun-exposed forearms that bleeds easily. Dr. Dawn explains UV radiation damages collagen and elastin, making blood vessels vulnerable to shear forces. She recommends topical vitamin K products like Dermal K and protective lycra sleeves or gardening gauntlets to prevent injuries, emphasizing the need for annual dermatologic exams after extensive sun exposure. An emailer asks about RSV vaccine recommendations before overseas travel. Dr. Dawn disagreed with the couple's physician, citing US Preventive Services Task Force guidelines recommending RSV vaccination for all adults 60 and older, plus those 50+ with chronic conditions. She discusses FDA-approved home testing options including the PIXEL by LabCorp test for COVID, flu, and RSV, and iHealth rapid tests. She notes RSV point-of-care tests are available to medical practitioners and recommends thorough vaccination before international trips. Dr. Dawn presents a frightening investigation into private equity hospital bankruptcies, focusing on Steward Healthcare's 31 hospitals and Prospect's 16 facilities. Private equity firm Cerberus earned $700 million while Steward 650 documented incidents of deficient care including deaths. One woman died from hemorrhage after vendors repossessed equipment due to unpaid bills. She explains the shell game where companies sell hospital land to Medical Properties Trust, forcing new operators to pay rent while private equity extracts profits. The Brookings Institution study reveals systematic prioritization of investor returns over patient care, with courts failing to prevent these practices despite some states passing protective legislation. She discusses stillbirth rates being significantly underreported, with Harvard research showing actual rates of 1 in 147 pregnancies versus CDC's 1 in 175, worsening to 1 in 95 for black families. Over 70% involved known risks like obesity or diabetes, but 30% had no identifiable factors. Dr. Dawn emphasizes unconscious bias in medicine where women's complaints are dismissed, particularly affecting women of color and non-English speakers, noting both patient and provider biases require training to address. Dr. Dawn warns about HPV-related oral squamous cell carcinoma in young men, explaining that changing sexual practices over 30 years have created new transmission routes from genitals to mouth. Major risk factors include smokeless tobacco and hard alcohol which damage DNA. She mentions newly available saliva tests for persistent HPV detection, recommending risk factor reduction for positive cases. She concludes optimistically with a breakthrough Huntington's disease treatment using microRNA molecule AMT-130 delivered via virus to brain striatum. The treatment mirrors toxic Huntington protein's RNA, creating double-stranded structures cells destroy, preventing toxic protein accumulation. The three-year trial of 29 patients showed 75% slowing of disease progression with few side effects, offering hope for 100,000 Americans carrying the mutation, including 40,000 with current symptoms.

Radix DLT is a Layer-1 distributed ledger—think blockchain for DeFi, but without the clunky blocks. It's built from the ground up to make decentralized finance smoother, safer, and more scalable. Why you should listen Radix DLT is a full-stack Layer-1, distributed ledger technology (DLT) platform purpose-built for the next wave of decentralized finance (DeFi) and Web3 development. Unlike traditional blockchains, Radix isn't chained to blocks—it's a true DLT leveraging its novel Cerberus consensus algorithm, offering atomic composability across shards and effectively limitless scalability. That means DeFi dApps can interoperate seamlessly in a single transaction without choking on traffic—Radix is engineered to scale to the needs of global finance. Radix isn't just about raw speed—it doubles down on usability. On the user side, the Radix Wallet brings clarity: no more blind signing or seed-phrase nightmares. Transactions are human-readable, and multi-factor, decentralized account recovery makes losing access a bore of the past. For developers, Radix gives you Scrypto—the world's first asset-centric smart contract language—and the Radix Engine, a DeFi-optimized “game engine” for building secure, composable dApps fast. Think of it as trading in clunky old engines for a sleek, intuitive ride that actually encourages innovation. Radix wasn't tinkering around—it's OECD-scale serious. With integrated, platform-native identity solutions baked right into its design, Radix is tackling one of the biggest barriers to real-world adoption: bridging crypto and compliance. That means institutional investors can actually bring capital on-chain, using verifiable, on-ledger identity in a way that's compatible with KYC/AML frameworks. If Web3 is ever going mainstream, it needs to solve identity—not just scalability and UX. Radix aims to check all three boxes. For this week's Bonus Episode we're padding through mists on silent paws and peering, with eyes of flame, at the history and folklore of Hellhounds! With so much to talk about, there's no mucking around: we dive straight into prehistory, discussing how humankind's domestication of the dog set the stage for conceptions of the Hellhound. From our earliest rock art through to the very first toys and statues, dogs were with us.But what about their dark double - the 'Demon Dog' or 'Hellhound?' From vengeful Ancient Mesopotamian afterlife creatures like the Shadu and Sharru to the role the Jackal (and Jackal-headed deity Anubis) played in Ancient Egyptian belief, via Classical notions about dogs and Hellhounds like Cerberus, it's startling how consistent beliefs about these 'Not Dog' monsters have remained. And descriptions of Demon Dogs across time have been wild and absurd. But, from Roman notions of the 'Duties of a Dog' through to Medieval and Renaissance attitudes to the fae and 'Other,' we, as a species, kept it nice and weird, trying to define the paranormal pooch as uncanny and terrifying, even though individual Hellhounds are often quite nice to people! From England's most famous example in the shape of Black Shuck to monsters with dog bodies and human heads, canine boggarts that grow to the height of houses to talking Hellhounds that just want to snuggle in your pocket, we're embracing it all. So, join with us beneath the light of the moon, and let our howls float on the breeze, singing of doom and portents. For in this episode, we look into the dark mirrors of our minds, and see what is reflected there. Not 'man's best friend' but something else with fur, four legs, a tail, and its own agenda that we simply cannot understand. Therefore, we howl. The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Hosted on Acast. The Third Circle of Hell – Gluttony (Canto 6) Musa explains the third circle and the contrapasso, “the shades in this circle are the gluttons, and their punishment fits their sin. Gluttony, like all the sins of incontinence, subjects reason to desire; in this case desire is a voracious appetite. Thus, the shades howl like dogs—in desire, without reason; they are sunk in slime, the image of their excess. The warm comfort their gluttony brought them in life here has become cold, dirty rain and hail.”[1] The beast Cerberus—a “three-headed doglike beast”—dwells in the third circle.[2] The beast both represents the sin of gluttony through its own immense appetite and further punishes those shades in the third circle as he “flays and mangles” the shades of that circle.[3] Musa also notes “with his three heads, he appears to be a prefiguration of Lucifer and thus another infernal distortion of the Trinity.”[4] On their way toward the fourth circle, Dante the Pilgrim asks Virgil whether the punishment of the souls in hell will be increased or lessened on the Final Judgment.[5] Virgil explains that the pain of those in hell will be “more perfect” after the Final Judgment, as the souls in hell will be reunited with their bodies after the bodily resurrection.[6]30. The Fourth Circle of Hell – the Prodigal & Miserly (VII)As Virgil and the Pilgrim enter into the fourth circle of hell, they are greeted by Plutus (Pluto), the Roman god of wealth, who speaks incoherently and whom Virgil dismisses by calling him “cursed Wolf of hell.”[1] The reference to “wolf” recalls the she-wolf at the beginning and reminds the reader the Pilgrim is still journeying through the circles of sins related to incontinence. Here the Pilgrim sees shades “to the sound of their own screams, straining their chests, they rolled enormous weights, and when they met and clashed against each other… screaming ‘Why hoard?,' the other side, ‘why waste?'”[2] The Pilgrim sees the contrapasso of the miserly and the prodigal, who, forming two semi-circles, push their heavy weights (symbolizing their material wealth) and shove against each other (as their disordered uses of wealth were opposite).[3] Virgil teaches the Pilgrim about Lady Fortune, who serves as an angel of God determining the fortunes of men and nations.[4] Note that Lady Fortune is often depicted with a wheel, and that this circle of hell resembles a giant broken wheel of the shades that mismanaged their...

Cantos 32-34 (4.15.25) with Evan Amato.Questions from our Reader's Guide:What is the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri? The Divine Comedy (or the Comedy as Dante called it) tells the story of Dante the Pilgrim's penitential journey through hell, purgatory, and heaven in three volumes or canticles: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. It is called a comedy in the classical sense of ending well, as opposed to tragedy which ends poorly. Dante the Poet masterfully weaves together Holy Scripture, Greco-Roman mythology, Aristotle, Roman history, St. Thomas Aquinas, and more to present the reader an excellent map of the human soul and its loves. “It is the Summa Theologiae in poetry,” says Dr. Prudlo, “and I think it's one of the greatest, greatest achievements, single achievements by a human being that's ever been attained.”What is the Inferno? The Inferno tells of Dante's pilgrimage through hell alongside his pagan guide, the Roman poet Virgil. The Inferno is less an eschatological treatise attempting to explain the actual geography of hell and more a moral tale on the reality of human desire and the soul. It not a mystical vision akin to St. John's Revelation or the ecstasies of St. Teresa of Avila. As such, Dante the Poet will place mythological characters in hell, like the three-headed dog Cerberus or the Roman god of the underworld, Pluto. The purpose is not literal but pedagogical. In a similar fashion, the placement of a soul in hell, like a Pope Nicholas III or Helen of Troy, is not a eschatological claim of who is actually in hell but a moral one. Everything in the Inferno is intended to instruct us in virtue and the proper rectitude of the soul. Why should we read Dante's Inferno? The Inferno is an invitation to examine your soul. Dante the Poet is a master of the soul and its loves. He tears away the acceptable veneer on human desire and exposes the ugly reality of sin and its transformative effect upon the human soul into something imploded and bestial. And Dante the Poet invites the reader to contemplate his or her soul and its loves within an ordered whole. As stated, the Divine Comedy is St. Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologiae is poetic form, and Dante the Poet weaves together Holy Scripture, Aristotle, mythology, astronomy, and more into one intelligible cosmos. Reality is intelligible and holds lessons for our sanctification and salvation. We are invited to become...

BEST OF: Seven bowls of God's wrath are poured out in the Bible by divine spirits - angels or demons. These plagues include sores, frogs, and hailstones, which can be attributed to demons like Lucifer, Bufonite, and Belial. The biggest bowl, Super Bowl 56, takes place on the eve of Valentine's Day or Lupercalia, a Roman festival of cleansing and fertility heavily focused on the goat, dog, and wolf. These creatures also act as guides in the Underworld throughout various mythologies that involve the soul/spirit of the butterfly and the shadow-self. The Big Game kicks off with the horned beasts, the Rams, against the Bengal Tigers. The 56th Halftime performers include Dr Dre, the GOAT, and Snoop Dogg, the dog or Lion, as his other name suggests. The Lion/Tiger and Goat also appear in images of Bauer and Azazel. The dog can be found in Cerberus. The other performers are Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar, all three aligned with the High Priestess, the shadow self, and the butterfly of the soul. Lupercalia also initiates the new year, and in 2022 it is that of the Tiger. The Chinese called Sagittarius the tiger, otherwise known as the archer linked to Jupiter, Ammon, Orion, Osiris the Hunter, Cupid, and Otherworldy guides like Anubis, the jackal. Combing these symbols at Halftime, coupled with the teams playing in the game, there is certainly enough to pick through for meanings that are both present and non-existent, including commercials depicting Zeus/Jupiter. These archetypes and themes can be used to summon the most Divine or the most Infernal. When Eminem says "it must be the ganga", implying marijuana, there is the possibility that the rap community is referring to Ganga-Gramma, the demon who pours out bowls with a pitchfork. At the very least, the event initiates the new year with a mass of energy, and those clever enough to see and understand its symbols may find divination for the future, and a marker for our current state of affairs.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.
