Streamer Presentations #7 -- Speed Leads and Lane Changes

Speed leads happen mostly in one lane, and they go faster than their parent current. Lane changes are exactly what they sound like — the fly is traveling in one lane, and then we deliberately bring the fly over to a nearby lane and travel down that one.The speed lead is a term coined by our friend, Josh Stewart. Way back in 2017, I published a few articles about low-riding streamer presentations, with streamers tied on lead ball jigs. I'd gotten the idea from Rich Strolis, and it was a bit of an underground thing at the time. I remember that Stewey got in touch after reading my article, and we started sharing ideas and presentation styles with some of these flies. When I described leading low but faster than the current, Josh said he called it a speed lead, and it was one of his best tactics for stirring up big trout. The Speed Lead is a big part of what we do with streamers. It's another animation to mix in while reading and working the water, searching for the best way to present the streamer. Lane changes are the perfect compliment for a speed lead. My friend, Austin Dando, joins me for a great discussion.ResourcesREAD: Troutbitten | Category | StreamersREAD: Troutbitten | Streamer Presentations -- The Speed LeadREAD: Troutbitten | Streamer Presentations -- The Endless RetrieveREAD: Troutbitten | Troutbitten Fly Box -- The Jig StreamersVisitTroutbitten WebsiteTroutbitten InstagramTroutbitten YouTubeTroutbitten Facebook Thank You to Pre-Roll Ad Sponsors:SkwalaandOrvis

Feras Alfuqaha's LIFELINE stars Josh Stewart as Steven Thomas. Steven's spending his New Year's Eve volunteering at a suicide hotline during the graveyard shift. He's the only guy in the office during a time of year in which folks tend to really feel their pain. The holidays can be rough on some of us.Steven handles a series of calls but one stands out: a college-aged kid who says he's gone to a motel with a gun with plans to kill himself at midnight. The kid's name? Steven Thomas. What's initially perceived as a prank reveals itself to extend beyond any wealth of coincidences. Steven knows he's talking to a younger self. As memories of his own abusive childhood begin to seep through repression, Steven knows he only has a few hours to A) figure out how this phenomenon is even occurring and B) convince his younger self to stay alive for the promise of a better day and life. The strength of this movie lies mainly in Stewart's performance. In his exhaustion, I see a man willing to carry the emotional burden of those to whom he extends a helping hand, regardless of the toll on his own body. As his younger, emotionally fraught self launches into self-destructive, nihilistic rants, Stewart's hesitation and expressions reveal that instinctual connection: Once upon a time, he did believe a version of this way of thinking. If you were to really crack the shell, I think he realizes he still believes in some of it, but also recognizes the need to adjust this perspective based on wisdom derived from experience. Older Steven isn't an easy role to bear and Stewart plays it thoughtfully and empathetically.Genres blend and the mystery unfurls in enticing fashion. Once all is revealed, I found myself seeing LIFELINE as poignant, hopeful even. It's an entertaining and heartfelt ode to one's desire to pursue hope against seemingly insurmountable pain. And it's less than 90 minutes? What a win!LIFELINE is currently playing in select theaters in L.A. & available to rent on VOD.---Please rate, review & subscribe to The Movies wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow The Movies on Instagram & Bluesky: linktr.ee/themovies_pod

Feras Alfuqaha loves to gab about moviemaking. His directorial debut, LIFELINE, premieres in select theatres and VOD on February 21st. It's the story of a suicide hotline volunteer (Josh Stewart) who receives a call from someone he believes to be his younger self (Judah Lewis). The caller says they're at a motel with gun in hand; they'll kill themselves at midnight. Clock's ticking.Based on my interview with Alfuqaha, if I had to associate a word with him, it'd be preparation. He discusses the research needed to understand his main character's work, the decisions finalized before ever stepping onto a set in order to maximize his indie budget's potential, the discovery of characters and their intents done months ahead of time, the amount of effort required before the shoot in order to earn the luxury of on-set flexibility and so. much. more. This interview's got grins and tangents aplenty, one of my favorites in recent memory.Watch LIFELINE here: https://linktr.ee/lifelinemovie---Please rate, review & subscribe to The Movies wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow The Movies on Instagram & Bluesky: linktr.ee/themovies_pod

The horror genre, particularly the slasher part of it, has a long-standing history of “final girls”. Many of them brilliant and iconic and for good reason. My guest today has had the rare privilege of becoming one of the few great final guys in a series that has established its place in the horror hall of fame.He has also starred in many other horror films, most fiercely independent ones, and even directed one. He's been in plenty of non-horror films as well including working with auteurs such as David Fincher and Christopher Nolan (with whom he has worked with several times). He has evaded being typecast and always brings the kind of gravity and thoughtfulness that makes his presence in any film a highlight. Maybe the best way I can describe him and his contributions to the genre is to say that if he's in something, I'm going to see it. I don't need to know anything more about the film than that for it to become something I'll watch. It's a system that thus far has served me well as he has given some of my personal favourite performances and led me to some films that I admire that I may not have seen otherwise. My guest today is Josh Stewart. Many of you know Josh from his role as Arkin in the beloved films “The Collector” and “The Collection” (there's a 3rd on its way at long last). Arkin immediately became an outlier in pantheon of horror leads in that not only is he a rather reluctant hero (if you can call him that at all) but he is relatable in that he has is own real-life problems and a psychopath, who sets up an elaborate series of traps that would make Jigsaw proud, seriously screws with his day. It's a quiet and heavy hitting performance and one of the great ones in the history of horror.Let's pull up a chair with one of genres finest actors, Josh Stewart! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

There's a reason we love to see our favourite monsters return time and time agin but recently its been a period of transition. Shy of the original master slasher Michael Myers, who's reign of terror thankfully continues, many favourites have been benched or transitioned into the world of television like everyone's favourite good guy doll. So, the time was ripe to unleash some new ones. Our guest today has been a part of crafting the way forward for two iconic horror heavies. In one as the writer of several of the franchises most adored entries and the other, a work of his own creation. In doing so he has cemented his place as one of the contemporary masters of horror and in my estimation, one of its greatest filmmakers. The two franchises I'm referring to are “Saw” and “The Collector” and the filmmaker is the masterful Marcus Dunstan.I should note that the two “Collector” films are among my personal favourites. With taut, stylish, nail biting direction from Marcus and a pitch perfect performance by the films star, the indispensable Josh Stewart, “The Collector” films have become an audience favourite so I think I can safely say we're all rather excited for the upcoming third film (more on that later).Marcus has a new film titled “#AMFAD All my friends are dead” that is one of the most fun times you could have with this years crop of horror films. Equal parts terrifying, scathing and laugh out loud funny, it's decidedly lighter brand of Marcus Dunstan film and yet also fits into his roster perfectly. Original and with a hell of an ending, well, horror fans are in for a serious ride with this one.“#AMFAD” is in select theatres now and is available on streaming.Marcus and I discuss the happy accident the got him his first writing gig on a Saw film (he wrote 4 of them), his commitment in creating “#AMFAD” to not sticking to the usual tropes of a film about social media obsessed characters, how “The Collector” films could be so grizzly but still have heart and oh yes, some details on the 3rd film.Alright, let's join the terrifying and twisted world of Jigsaw and the Collector with writer/director Marcus Dunston! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Tennessee and Texas A&M face off in the College World Series final, and Chris Lee, Graham Doty and Alfred Ezman break it all down with their preview and predictions. Topics include: - The Vols and the Aggies look like the country's two best teams. - Tennessee's lineup did historic things, and had five members (Christian Moore, Kavares Tears, Billy Amick, Blake Burke and Dylan Dreiling) in the 20-home-run club. - But the Vols have hitting depth off the bench, too, with Dalton Bargo and a cast of others giving coach Tony Vitello some mix-and-match options. - Tennessee's starting pitching comes in on a tear, with Drew Beam's stuff ticking up a notch in Omaha and Zander Sechrist having shown rock-solid consistency of late. - The Vols' bullpen of AJ Causey, Nate Snead, Kirby Connell, Dylan Loy, Marcus Phillips, Andrew Behnke and JJ Garcia has also been elite. - The Aggies have battled season-ending injuries to All-American Braden Montgomery and bullpen ace-turned-starter Shane Sdao, and in spite of that, have gone unbeaten in the NCAA tournament. - However, an injury to outfielder Jace LaViolette has the Aggies further hobbled, even though LaViolette played through a hamstring injury on Wednesday. - Texas A&M starting pitchers Justin Lamkin and Ryan Prager have been at the top of their games in Omaha. - The Aggie bullpen, led by Evan Ashenbeck, Chris Cortez, Josh Stewart, Brock Peery and Brad Rudis is one of the country's best. Knew it but didn't do it. A couple of months ago I spent a whole week in flight safety school. Specifically, I was studying what makes the difference between safe pilots and dead pilots. I learned that 93% of all accidents were caused by bad choices. And most of the choices fall into one of three categories:Disregarding of risk.Ignorance to following a process.Clinging to EgoAs our instructor went slide by slide, deconstructing the events that led up to countless horrific accident scenes, every pilot in the room would shake their head in disbelief at how unbelievably stupid, and preventable it all was. I couldn't help but think about how the same is true for good leadership. Companies crash when leaders:Disregard riskIgnore the process. Can't let go of their Ego And the rest of us review their accident footage, shaking our heads in disbelief at how remarkably easy it would have been to do the opposite. Can I tell you the most numbing story I heard the whole week? Our instructor reviewed the accident report involving a student who had sat in this very classroom only months ago.“He was sitting here just like you all were, saying, ‘I would never do that.' And then he did.”And he killed his wife, his father-in-law, his best friend, and his three-year-old son.All because he knew, but didn't do. I saw grown men cry that day. I saw the most experienced of aviators humble themselves, and ask some serious questions. And now, I have a question for you:What do you know for sure is good for you, but haven't decided to do?As my friend Josh Stewart so wisely says, “Standards are more important than goals. Because a standard is what you're willing to accept. And you'll never allow yourself less than a standard you've set.”Let's set a higher standard, my friends. Don't risk what you're not willing to lose. Follow a process. Check your ego when your friends share a concern for what's up. Happy, Safe Flying out there.BWDo you have a marketing problem you'd like us to help solve? It's over. Criminal Minds Season 16 is over, the manhunt for Sicarius is over, Doug Baby is over, it's all over until they start shooting again and we must begin contemplating Season 17. "Dead End" boasts a number of highlights, from apparitions to Josh Stewart having to deliver expository dialogue like a person. Of all the finales, it definitely is one, complete with stupid, stupid open ended ending that Ronnie and Jazz will no doubt speculate over.

With our buddy Josh joining us once again, we gush over Panda Bear's 2007 touchstone indie record Person Pitch. Trading in the usual guitar for a Roland sampler, Noah Lennox created a record made up almost entirely of samples ranging from Cat Stevens to a hooting owl. His reverb-drenched vocals, often densely layered to create harmonies on par with Beach Boys, paired perfectly with his introspective lyrical themes focused on his marriage, his newfound fatherhood, and even deeply personal stories like his reliance on anti-depressants. Person Pitch laid the foundation for countless indie bedroom poppers in the decade to come, and a sound that became the stepping stone for the chillwave movement.Tracklist: Comfy In Nautica Take Pills Bros I'm Not Gothic Voices - Rose, Liz, Printemps, Verdure Ponytail Visit tiestatea.com and use promo code NOFILLER15 for 15% off at checkout.
