In this episode of Talk'n TRM: The Traveller Files, Bex and Jessica Inglis delve into a harrowing business trip experience that began with severe jet lag and escalated into a debilitating case of food poisoning during a trip to India. They discuss the importance of staying vigilant about what you eat and drink while traveling, and the critical need for preparation and awareness to ensure safety on the road. Amidst the recounting of this ordeal, Bex shares the poignant story of Simone White, who tragically passed away from methanol poisoning after consuming counterfeit alcohol in Laos. The episode also highlights a campaign raising awareness of methanol poisoning, inspired by a traveller's tragic experience. The morning after Homecoming week hits different. P wakes up at Dizzy's house pretending everything is fine, even though nothing is fine. The letter from St. John's is in his pocket like a weight. The DeLorean didn't show. The note he wrote is still in his head.Outside, Kev and Dizzy shoot hoops like the world is normal. P pretends right along with them. The kind of pretending every kid knows too well. Then real life barges in, and the moment they were waiting for disappears before it even starts. At the video store, things get even tighter. Bex is behind the counter. Kev is cracking jokes that cut deeper than he realizes. P is trying to disappear inside a ruined shirt and a smile that doesn't fit anymore. He escapes to the back room, plays a fighting game, and chooses the one character who feels closest to the person he can't say out loud. For a second, he can breathe. Then everything and everyone he's avoiding walks right in.Act Two is where the mask slips. Where jokes stop being jokes. Where P realizes he can't keep pretending forever.SMALL BLOCK is a feature screenplay by Ashley Lauren, performed live and mixed like a feature film for your ears. It's Homecoming week in Pondhill, 1994. Fourteen-year-old P is barely holding it together, shaving a single whisker in the bathroom mirror, writing a note he almost can't take back, and dialing his best friend Kev before a Zippo flame turns fear into momentum. At school, P's movie-trivia fluency sabotages Kev in a "battle of the sexes" quiz, earning heat from Kev and former best friend Bex. After class, the band - P, Kev, and Dizzy - argues Pantera vs. Korn, then mainlines '90s VHS nostalgia with Ace Ventura and The Crow. Then the impossible slides by in stainless steel: a DeLorean. Its driver, "Miss World," knows her metal, quotes regrets, and won't take three teens on a joyride yet. She'll be back tomorrow at 11 A.M.Under Friday-night lights, P pulls down a highlight-reel TD in a scrappy eighth-grade pickup game while Dizzy's hustling block saves the play. Back in the stands, P's parents pitch football and fitting in. P keeps tugging his shirt straight and his purple beanie low, but the question won't leave him alone: who is he allowed to be, especially if the words for it don't exist here?SMALL BLOCK is a feature screenplay by Ashley Lauren, performed live and mixed like a feature film for your ears. Bex Frucht is a force of nature—a storyteller and community builder whose work blends performance, land, and small-town life in the American West. Based in Livingston, Montana, she's the founder of TMI Live, a storytelling series that celebrates vulnerability, humor, and human connection, and for the past three years, she's been the “vibe steward” of the Old Salt Festival, where her talent for bringing people together has become legendary. Whether she's hosting a show, coaching storytellers, or emceeing a fundraiser, Bex radiates generosity, intelligence, and positivity in a way that elevates every room she's in. Like so many of my favorite people, her career path is as winding as it is fascinating: a Morehead-Cain Scholar at UNC Chapel Hill, she spent her early years in media and entertainment in New York and Los Angeles, then pivoted to environmental work before landing on a ranch in Colorado to learn about land stewardship from the ground up. Those years on the prairie, combined with her creative life in cities and her Southern roots, helped hone her rare ability to connect seemingly opposite worlds—artists and ranchers, movie stars and cowboys, locals and newcomers—through the shared power of story. In this conversation recorded at her home in Livingston, we trace her inspiring journey and talk about the lessons she's learned along the way: what it means to find your authentic voice, how storytelling can build bridges across divides, and why embracing your weirdness can be the key to a meaningful life. It's a funny, authentic conversation that's as instructive as it is entertaining. For anyone who's ever wondered how to forge their own path, live creatively, and stay grounded in community, this episode is for you. Be sure to check out the episode notes for a full list of all the topics we discussed and links to everything. And give Bex a follow on Instagram to stay in the loop about her upcoming storytelling shows and appearances in Montana and beyond. In this episode of Talk'n TRM: The Traveller Files, Bex shares a story that is equal parts shocking and mortifying. Imagine arriving at your hotel room after a long day, only to find your boss—naked—inside. What follows is a whirlwind of misunderstandings, frantic apologies, and a stark reminder of how quickly a business trip can spiral into chaos. Bex is joined by Jessica Inglis to reflect on the situation, discussing hotel key safety, the importance of communication, and how even the most awkward travel moments can offer lessons for employees and organisations alike. This week, Bex & Laura dive deep into the fascinating (and sometimes downright confusing) world of the menstrual cycle, ovulation, and fertility. Whether you're trying to maximise your chances of conceiving, wanting to learn a little more about your lovely lady bod, or just wondering what the bloody hell cervical mucus is all about — this one's for you.Together with their guest Hannah Pearn, fertility acupuncturist, they unpack the phases of the cycle and talk about what's really happening each month. From spotting the signs of ovulation to understanding the role of our old pal cervical mucus, it's all about getting to know your body better — without the shame, stigma, or medical jargon. They also explore how technology can help (and sometimes stress us out) when tracking fertility, how contraception and age can affect your chances of conception, and the importance of managing expectations — because despite what we're told, getting pregnant isn't always as straightforward as we think. It's educational, honest, and full of those “why did no one ever tell me this before?!” moments.Takeaways:The menstrual cycle is key to understanding fertility.Ovulation usually happens between days 12 and 20 — but it can vary!Cervical mucus is one of the best indicators of fertility (don't be afraid to check it).Technology can be a great tool for tracking — but don't let it add pressure.Medications, infections, and contraception can all affect cervical mucus.Contraception can temporarily impact fertility and hormone balance.Looking after your general health supports reproductive health.Timing sex around ovulation can make a big difference when trying to conceive.Managing expectations helps reduce stress around conception.Hannah Pearn can be found here - https://hannahpearn.com/We are The Worst Girl Gang Ever Foundation. They discuss the evolution of Broly's character, the nostalgia surrounding the original films, and the critiques of Gohan and Videl's roles. In this engaging conversation, the hosts delve into the complexities of Broly's character and powers, exploring the narrative arcs of the Dragon Ball franchise, particularly focusing on the movies featuring Broly. They discuss the simplistic plot of 'Broly: The Second Coming', the portrayal of Vegeta, and the critical reception of 'Bio Broly'. The conversation also touches on alternate timelines and character dynamics, highlighting the potential for new narratives within the Saiyan legacy. The hosts reflect on the importance of character design and memorable moments in the series, ultimately pondering the future of Broly and the Saiyan race.Follow our socials by clicking through the ALL POWERFUL LINKTREE OF MIGHT: https://linktr.ee/thebrothaship Listen to us on Apple Podcasts here:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-brothaship/id1645000686 Listen to us on Spotify Here: https://open.spotify.com/show/0WTmVFsC3z7sdl0UEZiP2X?si=PZJVuRa7QuasiAupkAo3hA&utm_medium=share&utm_source=linktree&nd=1&dlsi=0fb09c5746294757 Check out our Musical contributors AOX by following their linktree: https://linktr.ee/aoxmusic
This week we're joined by the brilliant Olly Brown, who opens up about his family's experience of miscarriage and the arrival of his daughter afterwards. Olly talks honestly about the devastation of loss, the ripple effect it has on partners, and why community support can make all the difference when you're navigating grief. As if that wasn't inspiring enough, Ollie's taking on a frankly bonkers challenge: 39 marathons in 39 weeks (yep, you read that right!) to raise awareness and vital funds for miscarriage support. Naturally, this led to Bex blurting out-on record-that she'll lace up her trainers and take on another marathon too. No backing out now, Bex… it's in the episode forever. We chat about why miscarriage is still such a taboo subject, how damaging the silence can be, and why acknowledging past losses matters even when you're holding new life in your arms. It's a moving, uplifting, and at times slightly chaotic conversation (thanks to the marathon madness) that reminds us just how much power there is in sharing stories.Takeaways:Miscarriage affects both parents, but partners are too often overlooked.Community support is everything when you're living with loss.Talking openly helps smash the stigma and myths that surround miscarriage.Acknowledging past babies doesn't take away from future ones—it honours them.Olly's 39 marathons are creating a space for stories, solidarity, and awareness.Oh, and apparently Bex is running a marathon now too (send snacks and supportive memes). We are The Worst Girl Gang Ever Foundation. Bex shares the deep challenges she faced growing up — including loss, pain, and the search for purpose — and how those experiences ultimately led her toward a life in recovery. Through the 12 Steps, yoga, and holistic healing practices, Bex found a new path to peace and purpose. Now a certified yogi, she's helping others do the same as one of the visionaries behind Crossroads' EVIC outpatient program, which blends yoga, art therapy, and other creative modalities to support recovery in non-traditional yet deeply meaningful ways.
In this episode of Talk'n TRM, host Bex Deadman is joined by Jade Oakley, Founder of We Move Travel, a data-driven travel platform dedicated to making travel safer, more inclusive, and more personalised for underrepresented groups. Jade shares her personal story of a hotel stay gone wrong, where an incorrect check-in led to a frightening incident, her door being opened in the middle of the night by a security guard. When she shared her experience on LinkedIn, the response was overwhelming, with many travellers coming forward to say they had experienced similar situations. Jade is also an advocate for safety differences for different demographics and why travel risk management can't be a one-size-fits-all approach. Jade and Bex explore how organisations and travel providers can build more depth and empathy into their risk management strategies, ensuring that all travellers, regardless of gender, background, or identity, feel safe and supported. Jade also talks about how her work with We Move Travel aims to fill critical gaps in travel data, using technology and insight to create safer and more equitable travel experiences for everyone. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in the intersection of diversity, inclusion, and travel risk management, and how the industry can evolve to protect all travellers, not just the majority. This week, Bex & Laura sit down with the wonderful Carys and Tasha to talk all things IVF, loss, and love. Their story begins back in December 2021, when they started their IVF journey with all the excitement and nerves you'd expect. Along the way, they faced some of the hardest challenges- hyperstimulation syndrome, medical miscommunication, and heartbreakingly, the loss of their baby, Poppy. As a same-sex couple, Carys and Tasha shine a light on the extra hurdles they've had to navigate, from the lack of clear information to the added emotional toll when professionals don't quite get it right. Through it all, they've shown resilience, strength, and a determination not just to keep going, but to use their story to help others feel less alone. We talk openly about the importance of advocacy in healthcare, the need for better understanding and training for professionals, and why keeping conversations about their little one, Poppy, alive means so much. Looking forward, Carys and Tasha are planning their wedding (cue the happy tears) and holding on to hope as they continue their journey to parenthood. It's a powerful reminder that community, compassion, and talking honestly about the messy, beautiful bits of loss and love can make all the difference.Takeaways:IVF is not just physical - it's deeply emotional, and that side is often overlooked.Same-sex couples face unique challenges and gaps in information.Miscommunication from medical professionals can have lasting emotional impact.Talking about lost babies keeps their memory alive - Poppy will always matter.Advocacy and better training for healthcare workers is vital.Community support brings connection, understanding, and strength.Love, resilience, and hope run through every part of Carys and Tasha's story. We are The Worst Girl Gang Ever Foundation. In this episode of Talk'n TRM: The Traveller Files, Bex is joined by Jessica Inglis to unpack a story that takes “open-plan” a little too far. Picture this: you're on a business trip, sharing a hotel room with a colleague, only to discover the bathroom door is made of clear glass. No frosting. No privacy. Just awkward compromises and towel improvisation. Bex and Jessica explore the very real challenges that come with situations like this, from blurred personal boundaries with coworkers to the responsibility hotels have to ensure guests are comfortable and respected. This story isn't just about bad design; it's about dignity, responsibility, and the duty of care that both hotels and companies hold for their people when they're on the road. Bex flips the script and puts Michelle in the hot seat. We get into the messy middle: pivoting from acting to construction to podcasting, the burnout that forced a reset, money honesty, why community matters, and how to build something you care about without losing your mind (or your keys).Key takeawaysYou don't need to burn it all down to pivot—build the bridge while you're still on it.Self-awareness is a double-edged sword; pair it with action and data, not doom-scroll metrics.Ask for help. We're unlocking an episode from the subscriber feed. Enjoy! *** This is the first part of Andrea and Dr. Bex's coverage of the Peacock documentary series “Anatomy of Lies”. The show dives into the story of Elisabeth Finch, who was best known as a head writer on “Grey's Anatomy”, and the lies that her life was built on. In their conversation about the first part of this docuseries, Andrea and Dr. Bex discuss Munchausen syndrome, the impact of false narratives in storytelling, particularly when it comes to claims of personal trauma, and how Finch's claims intersected with the public discourse of the Me Too era. *** Listen to the rest of this series: https://www.patreon.com/collection/1433425 Watch “Anatomy of Lies”: https://www.peacocktv.com/watch-online/tv/anatomy-of-lies/6024435431465947112 Order Andrea's new book The Mother Next Door: Medicine, Deception, and Munchausen by Proxy. Hello, Kaiju Lovers! In this, the penultimate episode of the “Monster Island World Tour,” Nate is joined by MIFV staple (and Jessica's "bestie"), Becky “Bex” Smith, but this time, she brings her “husbando,” Encyclo, along! They discuss arguably the best (or at least most iconic) British kaiju film, Gorgo, the last of the 1961 European kaiju movies. Why? To pay off a joke that goes all the way back to episode 18! This is the third Eugene Lourie monster film Nate has discussed on the show, so he may have to bent the podcast's purview to include the fourth and final one. Bex is full of hot takes about the monster suit and special effects, while Nate argues this has the first ever "Kenny" in a kaiju film. That's just a taste of what they discuss! Since this film takes place partly in Ireland and there are tensions between Ireland and England, the Toku Topic is Anglo-Irish relations. “Jimmy's Notes” on this episode COMING SOON!
