Send us a textAs promised, this week on episode #109 of "Fabulous Film & Friends we're going to weigh in on the two big ticket super hero extravaganzas from the Summer of 2025: James Gunn's Superman starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisando, Wendell Pierce, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Sara Sampaio and Nicholas Hoult up against The Fantastic Four: First Steps directed by Matt Shakman and starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Julia Garner and Ralph Ineson. Returning for yet another daringly detailed deep dive into the world of fantastical four colored fantasies is nephew to a comic bookstore Kingpin, author, teacher and hypnotherapist, Joe Field. Before we blast off into the Ultra-Negative Zone, the synopses: In 2025's Superman, it is 3 years into his mission and Earth's Champion, The Man of Steel has met his match in Lex Luthor who causes a distraction with a giant monster and breaks into Superman's secret Fortress of Solitude where he translates a message from Superman's parents in which they instruct their son Kal El –Superman's Kryptonian name-- to take over earth and spread his seed. Using this jarringly awkward info to turn public opinion against our hero, Luthor has also made a clone of Superman called Ultraman who continually batters and beats the Man of Steel into submission. On top of that, Luthor has a Pocket Universe where he jails his enemies including his ex-girlfriends. And Lex has Ultraman place Superman in a cage with another a super powered being named Metamorpho who can weaken Superman by turning his hands into Kryptonite. Ultimately, Luthor's cruelty overwhelms Metamorpho who helps Superman escape the pocket universe but it in doing so, the unstable dimensional rift threatens to swallow Earth. It is only with the help of scrappy reporter Lois Lane and a team of heroes called The Justice Gang that Superman that is able to beat Ultraman, Luthor and close the rift. There's also some political stuff going on with two made up countries going to War because of Luthor's manipulations. In The Fantastic Four: First Steps it has been four years since Reed Richards, Sue Storm, her brother Johnny and Ben Grimm were transformed by cosmic rays into the world's protectors, super stretchy genius Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and the rock man known as The Thing who are biggest celebrities on the planet. The exciting news that team leaders Reed Richards and Sue Storm are expecting their first child is put on the back burner by the arrival of the Silver Surfer the herald of the planet eating Celestial known as Galactus. Galactus tells the Fantastic Four that he will spare Earth in exchange for their yet unborn child, but that his too high a price to pay. With the public opinion against them, and world watching nervously, the team springs into action and devises a incredible plan to teleport planet earth into the far reaches of space. But then the Surfer and Galactus arrive and put the kabosh on the plan so the FF amends the plan to send Galactus himself into the far reaches of space, which seemed like the better strategy to begin with. So which movie was dumber and more suitable for booger eating six year olds? Find out!Watch to the video podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/cZCszsepEVM

The epitome of 21st century takes on 20th century _ from space movies, this James Gunn classic references Henelotter, Tremors, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, The Toxic Avenger, Goosebumps, Alien, Predator, Society, Shivers, and possibly even Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The make-up and practical effects pair perfectly with 2006's digital effects and the over-the-ham acting of Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Rooker, and Gregg Henry. This one will fill you up to bursting but still leave you hungry for more!

Send us a textWhat defines a hero? Not the powers they possess, but the choices they make when facing impossible situations. Superman 2025 stands as a testament to this fundamental truth, reintroducing audiences to a Man of Steel whose greatest strength isn't his ability to fly or lift mountains, but his unwavering compassion and moral clarity. While exploring James Gunn's fresh vision for Superman, we dive deep into what makes this interpretation both faithful to Superman's 85-year legacy and boldly innovative. David Corenswet breathes new life into both Clark Kent and Superman, crafting distinct personalities that somehow feel like two sides of the same genuine heart. His Kansas farm boy humility shines through even when he's soaring above Metropolis, creating a Superman whose power is matched only by his humanity.Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane emerges as the perfect counterpart - fierce, brilliant, and unwavering in her commitment to truth. Their chemistry crackles with authenticity, particularly during that electrifying interview scene where professional integrity clashes with personal connection. We dissect how this relationship anchors the film, giving Superman something worth protecting beyond abstract ideals. The film's most controversial element - the revelation about Superman's original purpose on Earth - transforms from potential stumbling block to profound statement about nurture versus nature. Superman isn't good because he was sent to Earth to be a savior; he's good because Jonathan and Martha Kent raised him with values that transcend his alien origins. His heroism becomes more meaningful precisely because it's a choice, not a destiny. From Nicholas Hoult's calculating Lex Luthor to Nathan Fillion's hilariously accurate Guy Gardner, we celebrate how the supporting cast enriches this world without overshadowing its protagonist. And of course, we couldn't resist gushing over Krypto the Superdog, whose presence captures the perfect balance of comic book whimsy and emotional resonance that defines this film.Whether you're a lifelong Superman fan or newcomer to the character, join us as we examine why Superman 2025 succeeds by understanding that what makes Superman super has never been the "powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men," but rather his fundamentally human heart. After all, anyone can save the world - but it takes someone special to care about saving one scared, not-very-good dog.Twitter handles:Project Geekology: https://twitter.com/pgeekologyAnthony's Twitter: https://twitter.com/odysseyswowDakota's Twitter: https://twitter.com/geekritique_dakInstagram:https://instagram.com/projectgeekology?igshid=1v0sits7ipq9yYouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@projectgeekologyGeekritique (Dakota):https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBwciIqOoHwIx_uXtYTSEbASupport the show

We discuss what works, what worries us, and what we're hyped for.David Corenswet dons the red trunks and cape, delivering a Superman we've been missing. Clark Kent, however, barely gets a byline. Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane sugar addiction has us all a bit concerned. James Gunn stewards a new DC Cinematic Universe with the hotly anticipated Superman. Starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, and Edi Gathegi, this new version of the Big Blue Boy Scout attempts to turn over a new leaf for a floundering franchise by taking pages from a rich tapestry of comics. Is it successful? We review the film, rank the silver screen Supermen, and talk about the future of DC at the movies.
In this episode we talk about what is no doubt the most anticipated movie of 2025, James Gunn's “Superman.” Gunn is more known for his quirky movies with unusual characters engaged in constant frenetic action. This time he takes on the most well-known superhero, the first son of Krypton. No small feat. Can he make everyone with their own idea of who they think Superman should be happy? In this latest Superman movie, Superman (David Corenswet) has been protecting Earth for a few years along with working at the Daily Planet with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan.) In the meantime, his arch nemesis Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) is hatching plans with the government to rationalize taking Superman out. Superman just might need all the help he can get and he might get that from the Justice Gang with Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific and Hawk Girl. Also, we can't forget Superman's furry friend, Krypto. Can Superman survive what Lex and the government got coming for him? Is it worth going to the theater to find out? All will be revealed in this episode of Movies Merica. “Superman” also stars Frank Grillo, Alan Tudyk, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Sara Sampaio, Dinesh Thyagarajan, Wendell Pierce, Michael Ian Black, Beck Bennett, Skyler Gisondo and Mikaela Hoover. Superman is a 2025 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Superman. Written and directed by James Gunn, it is the first film in the DC Universe (DCU) produced by DC Studios and the second reboot of the Superman film series. David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent / Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced. In the film, Superman must prove to the world that he is their protector after billionaire Lex Luthor enacts a plan to turn public opinion against him.Development on a sequel to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film Man of Steel (2013) began by October 2014, with Henry Cavill set to reprise his role as Superman. Plans changed after the troubled production of Justice League (2017) and the Man of Steel sequel was no longer moving forward by May 2020. Gunn began work on a new Superman film around August 2022. In October, he became co-CEO of DC Studios with producer Peter Safran and they began work on a new DC Universe. Gunn was revealed to be writing the film in December. The title Superman: Legacy was announced the next month, Gunn was confirmed to be directing in March 2023, and Corenswet and Brosnahan were cast that June. The subtitle was dropped by the end of February 2024, when filming began in Svalbard, Norway. Production primarily took place at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with location filming around Georgia and Ohio. Filming wrapped in July. The film takes inspiration from the comic book All-Star Superman (2005–2008) by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, among others.Superman premiered at the TCL Chinese Theater on July 7, 2025, and was released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on July 11. It is the first film of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Superman received positive reviews from critics and has grossed $220 million against a $225 million budget.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
