In this episode the hosts discuss the fifth episode of the fifth season of Merlin, "The Disir". We talk about our energy levels, FFXVI, drinking an entire bottle of vodka, how none of these people from the old religion are making sense, and how Camelot should be following the one true lord.
Hello! This week, Wyrdos Jai, Sif, Kenna, and Theo talk about Feminism in Heathenry. We tackle some of the views of the worst groups in heathenry in regards to women in Pre-Christian Scandinavia, including the nonsense that there were no women warriors in the sagas. We also touch on the sexualisation of the Valkyries and how the gods themselves transcend gender. Disclaimer: Trans rights are human rights. Infuriatingly the academic language sticks rigidly to the gender binary, with little consideration to the greater spectrum. For reference, Sif would like people to know that the women she mentions in the sagas are as follows (the captions decidedly did not like these names) Saxo writes about Hetha, Visna and Vebiorg, Alvild and her daughter, Gyrith Lagertha (not mentioned in the podcast, but is an obvious one) Freydis Eiriksdottir Thordis Sursdotir Audr and Thuridr Thorhildr Vadlaekkja Hervor Bjarmarsdottir Olof, Queen of Saxaland in the Saga of Hrolf Kraki And dozens of unnamed women warriors that pop up here and there in the sagas Mythologically speaking, we have the Disir, Fylgjur, Hamingjur, Valkyries and Nornir (Fylgjur and Hamingjur sometimes show themselves in more feminine forms). Skadi. Thorgerdr Holgabrudr and her sister Irpa in Jomsvikings Saga. We also have giantesses as warriors throughout the mythological sagas. - Join the Heathen Wyrdos Discord Server (beware, may contain cheese and bagels)- https://discord.gg/vyXntbzSxN Want to support the Wyrdos? https://ko-fi.com/heathenwyrdos We now have a Redbubble store as well if you're after some Wyrdos merch: https://www.redbubble.com/people/heathenwyrdos/shop Find Heathen Wyrdos Podcast on Youtube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podbay, Overcast, Pocket Casts, and other places where podcasts live. Episode 57 of @fortheloveofmerlinpodcast! No one seems to actually want to help or listen to Merlin, so he makes an epically bad decision.
This week we have the attack of the Disir and Nidhogg attacks our crew and rampages through Paris. Josh gets brave and gets awakened, but still no love from us, and he needs his sister to come save him from his own stupidity. We discuss Dee and Machiavelli's motives and approaches to Josh, and we start to see Josh's skepticism rubbing off on Sophie. Ultimately though, we end book 2 in a relatively good place. Nicholas is safe with both twins awakened, Perenelle rules Alcatraz, but Scatty is still underwater. Next week we will be reading chapters 1-35 of book 3 in the series, The Sorceress.

In this episode we are talking about shield-maidens and valkyries. We go deep into the stories about shield-maidens and female warriors in the Icelandic sagas, and we also touch upon the recent archaeological investigations that have suggested that there were indeed female warriors in the Viking Age.
The scrolls are in our bones, and an embodied relationship with our ancestors can bring countless rewards and reveal things a merely intellectual path cannot. Through myth, ritual, and creative expression we can remember the feminine magic of our grandmothers and reap their blessings. Lara Veleda Vesta is an artist, writer, and educator with strong, well tended ties to her Northern European ancestors. Her works and offerings focus on folk spirituality, archaic magic, mythology, ritual, and women’s remembrance. Our conversation runs deep and meanders from the cultural legacy of the burning times to the language of symbol to the nature of fate to the illusion of linear time and its effect on our modern lives to mold toxicity to snake medicine. The Night before the Solstice is known as Mothernight, Modraniht and is the veneration of the Disir, the Idisi, the Mothers- the female ancestors. People tend to know about the Warriors who, when they died, went to Odins Hall to feast and fight until Ragnarok, but what about the women? They tended to stick around and watch over the family. On the night before solstice, the Disirblot, or sacrifice to to the Disir was celebrated in the areas of Germanic and Celtic culture before the coming of Christianity. Many of current Christmas customs are remenents of those practices. Tchipakkan will talk about these.
This week you’ll get to hear the presentation that Alvilldr has given at Trothmoot, the Mystic South Conference, and the Conference of Heathen Women. Winter Nights is the holy time when we of Asatru honor the Disir - the female ancestors of our line, often thought of as being led by Freya, the Goddess of love and fertility. Is death merely a curtain, a veil, through which the love and inspiration of our foremothers (and all our ancestors generally) can reach us? Asatruar say "Yes!" - the line of ancestors and descendants transcends time and space, and mortality. Join us as we describe how to honor your own Disir, the mighty women who gave you the gift of life!
