An. impromptu debate over the question of the Neo-pagan revival. Our debate revolves the question of whether paganism and in his case, Asatru, are objectively true and can be proven in terms of logical, rational and philosophical discourse. How are claims justified? What is a universal claim? How is it justified? Is logic just a word trick? Send us a text(#35 with Rúnahild is only available on Youtube due to unfortunate audio issues on my end)Today I am joined once again by Nils Edström, the man behind Hindarfjäll perhaps best known for his performance of My Mother Told Me with Peter Franzén from the Vikings television series. I've had Nils on before, but now he is back to talk about his latest album Seden which released almost a month ago to the day. In this interview, Nils talks about his trips to Italy and his experience at this year's Midgardsblot before we turn the conversation to his origins in the pagan/viking music genre. As is tradition, black metal plays a part in introducing Nils to the old ways, though he himself is not the most dedicated listener of black metal, showing us yet again that the ideology of black metal seems to transcend the music itself. Nils takes us through his nature walks as a kid with his friends as well as his walks with his grandmother learning the names of the trees, where from a young age Nils had an inclination towards animistic questions and perspectives. He was brought to this genre by the way of Wardruna, Månegarm, and Anders Hagberg, which gave him a more suitable expression for his love of nature, mythology, and older ways. In talking about his growth through the years leading up to Seden, Nils and Jameson talk about the importance of being self-critical (in a healthy amount) to grow as a musician, as well as the experiences he's had writing and making the music of Seden. We talk about that pesky “is this folk music” question, as well as conflicts of theory and intuition when it comes to writing music. We then spend a long time diving into the mythology of Seden in which Nils takes us through his perspectives on things like Odin, Yggdrasil, Asatru, and thanks to a misunderstanding on Jameson's part (it keeps him humble): Seidr vs Seden and reconstructionists.Thank you for coming back on the podcast, Nils, and congratulations on a stellar album.0:00 Intro2:57 Midgardsblot4:20 Performing with Peter Franzén5:45 Filling in for Gåte7:21 How Nils got into Pagan folk music10:21 Nature walks with Nils12:30 Early Hindarfjäll inspirations15:17 The rise of Nordic Animism18:55 The Black Metal influence20:35 Hindarfjäll's instrumentation23:40 The Folk Music Question30:20 Seden37:00 The harmonies of Hindarfjäll41:38 The mythology of Seden1:04:32 The songs of Seden1:08:58 Seden restrospective1:15:17 What's next?1:20:02 Nils turns to ScuzzlebuttSupport the show

This week on America's Podcast! We are reviewing Metal Church's "Congregation of Annihilation," and we have the Metal Master himself, Metal Mike Tyler, joining us as a guest. Will it be a new metal classic that annihilates us, or will it fall flat? Well, you must listen to find out! But that's not all, folks! It's also the debut of their new vocalist, Marc Lopes! Exciting times ahead. Now, let's talk about the tracks of the week. We have Jerry's pick, "Asatru" by Satans Taint. Metal Mike's choice is "1916" by Sabaton. Marc brings us "Pig" by Overkill. Sean Ragon has been active in industrial, and experimental music communities for over fifteen years, and in DIY punk in general going back to the 90s. He's primarily known as the frontman of neofolk collective Cult of Youth, which triumphantly returned from a long hiatus last year. Sean also makes electronic music as Venerence. He's deep in the culture, and his contributions over the years have been truly original and widely respected. Sean and I talk about runic yoga, Asatru, attempting to remain apolitical in polarized scenes, being married by Genesis P-Orridge , Cult of Youth's comeback album, “With Open Arms”, and why Sean had to flee America to Berlin.

In this episode, I talk with author and gang investigator D.J. (or David) Schilling. He has worked in the Criminal Justice Field since 2006 as a Correctional Officer, Security Threat Group specialist, and gang instructor. His specialties are the use of the Runes & Norse Pagan symbology used by white supremacist groups, criminal intelligence processes, and alternative religions/beliefs, such as radicalized Asatru & Odinism, Christian Identity, and various occult topics. He is the author of “Norse/Germanic Runes & Symbols: Field Reference Guide for Law Enforcement & Corrections.” https://amzn.to/3zHME3yDavid talks about the history, differences, and ideology associated with different runes. Heavy Pod Is Heavy Cast! This week, we talk about some music, but also the responsibility of certain groups, like Asatru, which have some degree of overlap in iconography and ideology with various supremacist movements but claim to be against them; to examine their beliefs and how anyone can be a more responsible consumer of media. But yeah, also stuff like new music from Origin, Lamb of God (also funny discourse around this and bubbles in the metal scene), Greylotus, Conjurer, Sadist, Hyper Planet, and a bunch of other stuff. Then, cool people time with Weird West, Citizen Sleeper, Dune: Spice Wars, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and of course, The Boys Season 3 (spoilers!). Enjoy! Join our community on Facebook! Steve and I share our experiences of blót and symbel, in terms of both communal reward and supernatural intervention. We talk about the AFA's great success in acquiring hofs and community-building. Conversation then moves onto the subject of Transhumanism; why and how we as heathens must oppose it.
