Pagan Religions in Five Minutes (Equinox, 2024) provides an accessible set of essays on questions relating to Pagan identities and practices, both historically and in contemporary societies as well as informative essays on different Pagan groups, such as Druidry, Wicca, Heathenry and others. The book includes answers to a range of questions such as: How many Pagans are there? What do Pagans believe? Is Paganism a real religion or is it just made-up? Is Satanism a type of Paganism? Do all Pagans celebrate the solstices? Why is it written "Pagan" and other times "pagan"? Do they have sacred texts? Is Druidry the indigenous religion of Europe? What does the pentagram symbol mean? Can anyone be a witch? Are Pagans anti-Christian?  The book also covers issues with terminology, including the labelling of ancient, non-Western and indigenous groups as 'pagan', common assumptions and misconceptions about Pagans, and more. Each essay is by a leading scholar in the field, offering clear and concise answers along with suggestions for further reading. The book is ideal for both the curious and as an entry book for classroom use and studying Paganism. Because each chapter can be read in about five minutes, the books offer ideal supplementary resources in classrooms or an engaging read for those curious about the world around them. Angela Puca, PhD (2021), is an independent religious studies scholar and university lecturer. It's time to kick around an idea that gets brought up and used quite a bit these days. Unverified personal Gnosis are the terms used to describe a belief gained through personal subjective experience, not things which are confirmed by traditions or in groups. They usually inform the belief system of those that experience them. On this episode, we will be talking with someone whose entire practice is based around Unverified Personal Gnosis. That's right! It's the long-awaited return of author and animist sorcerer Aidan Wachter!

The words Pagan and Heathen mean a lot of different things.  In the mouths of modern Pagans & Heathens, they are badges of honor.  For Christians and religious conservatives, they are a shorthand for everything they see as sinful, degenerate, and unholy.  Join your host for a journey into their history, why they matter, and what they say in these times of increasingly aggressive Christian nationalism, Project 2025, and more!Sources:https://wildhunt.org/2024/04/editorial-new-book-is-ripe-with-dangerous-anti-pagan-rhetoric.htmlhttps://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/29/opinion/christianity-paganism-woke.htmlhttps://www.ncregister.com/in2:21 PM 7/30/2024terview/post-christendom-and-the-return-of-paganism-in-the-westhttps://www.npr.org/2024/02/29/1234843874/tracing-the-rise-of-christian-nationalism-from-trump-to-the-ala-supreme-courthttps://globalextremism.org/post/project-2025-a-heightened-threat-of-christian-nationalism-and-authoritarianism/https://www.au.org/the-latest/church-and-state/articles/destroying-life-and-liberty-a-christian-nationalist-playbook-outlines-a-broad-scheme-to-overthrow-american-democracy-and-install-a-theocracy/

John Pinna speaks with Josh Heath about Heathenry, a modern revival of Norse pagan religion. Heath discusses his personal journey to Heathenry, the beliefs and practices of the faith, including ancestor worship and the concept of fate, and how it differs from pop culture depictions of Norse mythology. He explains the community structure of Heathenry, from individual practice to larger organizations, and addresses the issue of white supremacist groups misappropriating Norse symbols. Heath also talks about his efforts to gain recognition for Heathenry in the U.S. military, his experiences as a Heathen soldier, and the faith's approach to death and burial. Throughout the conversation, Heath emphasizes the importance of community in Heathen practice and the faith's focus on supporting and protecting one's local community, regardless of racial or cultural background. Special Guest: Josh Heath.

Richard Allen's defense team has crafted an alternate theory centered around an alleged cult of "Odinists" who killed Liberty German and Abigail Williams as part of some kind of pagan sacrifice. The theory has garnered much press attention and general criticism. But heathens — those who practice pre-Christian Germanic faiths, many of whom are inclusive and anti-racist — are upset by the theory, which they feels maligns their faith. As president of the Troth — an inclusive, anti-racist, pro-LGBTQ heathen organization — Lauren Crow has seen firsthand the impact that the defense's strategy has had on the heathen community. So she was pretty surprised when she got a call from defense attorney Andrew Baldwin in mid-April.Here's a link to The Troth: https://thetroth.org/Here's The Troth's statement on the Delphi case: https://thetroth.org/position-statement/odinist-ritual-defense-indiana-murder-case/Check out Lauren's Heathen History podcast here: https://www.heathenhistory.com/Support The Murder Sheet by buying a t-shirt here: https://www.murdersheetshop.com/Send tips to murdersheet@gmail.com.The Murder Sheet is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Life is pretty busy lately and it's made a bit of a challenge to book guests. So I took a couple books off the shelf that I've had for a while adn thought I'd have a little review/chat about them.  Loki and Sigyn: Lessons on Chaos, Laughter & Loyalty from the Norse Gods  by Lea Svendsen. Llewellyn, February 2022. This captivating book takes you deep into the infamous legacy of Loki and the quiet power of Sigyn, the goddess of loyalty and compassion. As a controversial figure in Heathenry, Loki is often approached with trepidation. But this book introduces you to his true self: a trickster, but also a loving husband and creative problem-solver.   Elves, Witches, & Gods : Spinning Old heathen Magic in the Modern Day by Cat Heath, Llewellyn, 2021. Cat Heath has carefully pieced together and recreated Heathen magic techniques, and she shares the theories, skills, and tools you need to begin or deepen your own practice. This book provides explanations and hands-on techniques for galdr, seidr, fiber magic, herb craft, journeying, and going under the cloak.   Both books were received from the publisher for review.
