J-Bunny sits down on Skype (while drinking beer from Ghost Hawk Brewing Co, of course) and talks to Donald Carpenter, vocalist of the band Blisskrieg, and formerly of Submersed, Eye Empire, and Apollo Under Fire. They discuss his journey in each band including how they formed, and in the case of his former bands, why they broke up. They also discuss why he has taken a more melodic vocal approach in Blisskrieg than he did in Eye Empire, and whether or not he would still write and sing a heavier vocal. And of course, J-Bunny asks Donald his thoughts on the current state of the music industry. Podcast intro "Rock Intro 3" courtesy of audionautix.com. "Inside Me" and “Waiting” appear on Blisskrieg’s debut album Remedy. Both songs were included with the permission of Donald Carpenter.

Colin Stetson is an unbelievably talented saxophonist who has been on a very personal musical journey since a young age. An undisputed virtuoso, he has been blowing the minds of audiences around the world with his solo concerts since the early 2000s. His personal language is incredibly lyrical, using extended sax and extra musical mic'ing techniques to add multiples layers of complexity and soul to his work. He's worked closely with the Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Tom Waits, Sara Neufeld and most recently with the quartet Ex-Eye. This conversation took place just a few weeks ago and was an utter delight.
NY native Greg Fox is the multi discipline, multi genre, electro, drumming, sensory percussion playing madman behind Liturgy, Ex Eye, his own solo records and much more. We get into opening for DMX, almost being in Jay Z’s band, what the hell sensory percussion is and how he used it to make a record, making a record by recording heart beats via a stethoscope, the forming of Ex Eye and Liturgy, his electronic pursuits, our mutual love for The Locust and Gabe Serbian's drumming and living in tiny NY tombs! A truly global podcast this week, with music coming in from as far afield as Ghana, Iran, and Israel. We have new music from closer to home too, with some jazzy goodness from On the Corner records, there's also the new one from Colin Stetson's Ex Eye project, techno from Mighty Lord Deathman, and rock sounds from We Wild Blood.
There's really no other way to say it: Music journalism is kind of in the sh@#@er in 2017. We're panling up in the basement to consider how things got this bad, could we all have done anything to stop it, and, most importantly, where do we go from here? Elder is a metal/prog band from Boston. We like Elder. Elder has a savage new album out, Reflections Of A Floating World. We like savage things. Seems like a thing we'd need to talk about, yea? PLUS! Colin Stetson is back and he's bringing his friends! This time the "heavy metal" wizard is diving headfirst in to metal/prog with his new band Ex Eye (featuring Stetson, Liturgy's Greg Fox on drums, Toby Summerfield on guitars, and Shahzad Ismaily on synths) and and the results are as wild as you would expect. "Xenolith; The Anvil" is your first taste of this righteous sonic assault that's coming for all of us later this month. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
EX EYE is the strong combination of Colin Stetson on saxophones, Shahzad Ismaily on bass and synth, Greg Fox on drums and electronics, and last but most certainly not least Toby Summerfield on guitar. The result is hard, heavy, and thrilling. We met the four members right after their show at Roskilde Festival and talked about their fluffy roles in the band and the extreme level of dynamics between them.
