Somewhere in Time Podcast continue their discussion of albums celebrating 30-year anniversaries and breakdown the Propagandhi album, "Less Talk, More Rock". If you're familiar with the podcast, it will be no surprise that this was a Keith recommendation. The discussion covers everything from their very politically driven lyrics to a history of the band and where they are now. Also featured on this episode is a quick review of the new Anthrax and Mastodon songs. In my MA thesis, I analyzed Baron d'Holbach's rhetorical strategies and his reliance on natural philosophy to construct a materialistic interpretation of mankind's physical origins and social development. From there, I developed a larger interest in perceptions of the human body as the mediator of social experiences. My research builds from questions posed by theories of embodiment and examines the ways in which relationships between humans in society were perceived to be channeled or stymied by corporeal properties. My dissertation explored how eighteenth-century writers employed the language and theories of physiology and medicine to map new foundations for society, especially in the burgeoning field of political economy and the "debate over luxury." Contemporaries used a new "corporeal vocabulary," based largely on sensationalism and theories of the nervous system, to address the growth of commerce and consumption of material goods and point toward both the degenerative and optimistic aspects of both. Since 2020, I've shifted gears to merge my academic historical interests with a lifetime of devotion to punk rock music. My new project asks when individuals listen to punk rock, what historical messages do they hear? Alongside that central question, I ask how punk lyrics appear when filtered through an historical lens. In what ways do punk musicians use history to sustain economic, environmental, political, racial, religious, social, and sexual critiques? How is the past given shape and meaning by punk lyrics? How visible, so to speak, are the historical elements? Essentially, what purpose does the past serve in punk music? Historical examination is not only central to how we define punk, and how punks define(d) themselves, but punk treatment of the past should be integrated into how we evaluate public consumption of history. They impart meaning to the past and challenge contemporary understandings of the past, present, and future. While punks do not create new knowledge, their music acts as an alternative historical epistemology that tracks alongside professional historians. They treat both the content of the past and the craft of History. I'm hoping to have a completed book manuscript on this topic by the summer of 2026: "Echoes of a Dreadful Past": Making Meaning of the Past through Punk Rock.
This week we dark a dark turn with the Album Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde. A dark work, the album would mark the last time the band would be able to handle such material again. Long a favorite band of many musicians including local megastars Propagandhi, the album cemented a place in my own greatest albums of all time list, with a perfect 10 out of 10. But just why is that and why does this album not get the spins on Sean's CD Player that often anymore. We go deep folks and travel into some dark territory, so be warned and take heed, this episode might not be for you. If you are triggered by content that deals with death, depression and suicide, please skip this one. This episode was helping me deal with my own trauma and I needed to do this for me. Patreon Goodness In this episode I am joined by the legendary main man of Canadian thrash pioneers Sacrifice, Rob Urbinati. They released their latest album "Volume Six" earlier this year which I was tipped off about by Todd from Propagandhi (thanks Todd!) and its an absolute old school banger. Having both been around since the 80's we had a lot of common ground to cover and cover it we did, this is a long one and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. As always there is in depth coverage of the latest metal news afterwards, some of it interesting and some of it AI rubbish. This Is 50th Anniversary Box Set Bollocks. Kreator

Patreon Free Access One of the reasons for starting this podcast was to get to interview some of my favourite bands. My history with Propagandhi goes way back and Todd and I get a chance to talk ALL things music. By that I mean of course we talk about their new album but boy do we go DEEP into thrash metal and our very similar experiences in the 80's trying to get hold of records by thrash bands. The news is actual news which starts off incredibly sad but soon turns around. This Is Moneyfied Bollocks. Video Interview

This week on Toilet Radio: Summer Slaughter sold by Ash Avildsen, Jamey Jasta proud new owner of a lemon. Related: We look at Ash's new women's wrestling movie and are awed by new heights in nepotism. An original Possessed guitarist (not the guy you know) got shot by the cops in a lawn care dispute. We get more depressing information on Ozzy's upcoming final performance. Propagandhi and Hideous Divinity are backing out on US tours for very valid reasons. Finally, we have a mostly pleasant conversation about the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame (no Eddie Trunk). Music featured on this show: Chainsword – Butcherhorde Want more Toilet Radio?
