Et c'est dans les loges de « la cinquième salle », que nous accueille un quinqua au visage adolescent qui n'a de cesse d'envisager la musique comme un jeu...Pour suivre Kid KoalaYouTube / Facebook / Instagram / XKid Koala en tournée Titres diffusésExtraits de l'album 12 bites Blues (Ninja Tune – 2012) : « 1 bit blues - 10,000 miles » ; « 2 bit Blues  » Extrait de l'album Creatures of the Late Afternoon (Envision Records – 2023) : « Things are gonna change » feat Lealani Extraits de l'album Somme of my best friends are djs (Ninja Tune - 2003) : « Shanky Panky » ; « Vacation Island »Extrait de l'album Floor Kids - Original Video Games Sound Track (Arts & Crafts - 2018) : « Five Spot Stomp »Et aussi :« Crazy in love » (Kid Koala version) par Emeli Sandé, extrait de la B.O. du film de Baz Luhrmann, The Great Gatsby (2013)« Strictly business » par EPMD (1988)Extraits de l'album Deltron 3030(2000) de Deltron 3030 : « Positive Contact » ; « 3030 » ; « St. Catherine St. »Extraits de l'album It takes a nation of millions to hold us back (1988) de Public Enemy : « Security of the first world » ; « Night of the living baseheads » ;  « Show'Em whatcha got » ; « Mind terrorist » « Terminator x to the edge of panic »« Its All Over » de The Slew Extraits de l'album Doing it to death (1973) des J.B.'s : « Introduction to the J.B.'s » ; « Doing it to death part. 1 »Journaliste : Hortense VolleRéalisation : Benjamin SarraliéMixage 3D en Dolby ATMOS pour une écoute immersive au casque :Jérémie BessetResponsable d'unité de production FMM – RFI Labo : Xavier Gibert

There's over 4GB of audio from the experiments I did with the Oxi one using a custom tape machine, wild analog gear and generally odd stuff to yield those good samples. ok, let's get on with the show! Kid Koala is not like the others. I mean who else gets the idea to do a scratch routine with moon river? Who thinks (and pulls off) a show where everyone has their own turntable in the audience to interact with a performance? He's the creator of wonderful graphic novels Nufonia Must Fall and Space Cadet He's opened for Radiohead He's worked on movies like The Great Gatsby, Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim vs the world Creativity to the max. Joy to the max. It really is a treat to have him on the show. I've always been a big fan and Eric really couldnt be any more humble and wonderful ! ___ in the show the MUSIC is back ! Yes for this episode, the musical connections come from the rather brilliant mind of bossada I got the cassette of this btw and it's a thing of beauty. This is great work. We sit down with Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Dave Bassett at his studio in California. He is also the songwriter behind hundreds of songs and many global hit songs over the years, including Rachel Platten's Fight Song, Elle King's Ex's & Oh's and Vance Joy's Riptide. We have a real talk about his life in, with and around music. A former rock band singer and writer Dave found a sweet spot eventually as a therapist of sorts. Dave began to understand the process of writing was an experience he was addicted to. We learn about listening and investing in the solitude of the present moment and tapping into the ether – and how he brings others with him. We talk about quitting the noise, shedding the ego and embracing the real mystery of music. We also hear about Dave's experience in the music industry and its changing complexion – for better and for worse. And Dave explains to us how we need to reconnect again with the actual physical investment of the musical experience and with our curiosity of the unknown.   Patience.   Listeners might want to try a few of our other conversations with musical guests, including Kid Koala (ep 28), Troy Johnson (ep 48) and Raine Maida (ep 65).   Dave, Website: http://davebassettmusic.com/ Playlist of songs written: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1EFFNj4npSCgoa?si=3f517166bc39465d

There's no such thing as half-measures in Kid Koala land. Take, for example the recent release of Creatures of the Late-Afternoon. Most would be perfectly content to issue 20 tracks half as innovative and vibrant at this point in their career. Koala, on the other hand, created his own accompanying board game. For nearly 30 years, the Canadian DJ has pushed musical boundaries, fusing a broad range of genres together, with little regard for status quo. He's also elevated the work of others, from scores to films like Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim, to influential projects like Deltron 3030, Lovage and Handsome Boy Modeling School. Hosted on Acast. Eric San, a.k.a. Kid Koala, on creating his own board game to accompany his new album “Creatures of the Late Afternoon,” why he made the switch from classical music to DJing, and how trying new things means you have to accept the possibility of failure. Possesom Paul and Igor Dobrovolskiy (26:42) on co-directing the new, first-of-its-kind ballet “Pisuwin,” the Wolastoq stories and themes that inspired it, and how they got the Juno-winning artist Jeremy Dutcher to compose the ballet's music. Jill Barber (42:02) on feeling like she lost momentum in her career during the pandemic, how creating a home for another person is often overlooked and underappreciated, and why on her new album, "Homemaker" she wanted to explore being a (you guessed it) homemaker.

"Hey, you! Come and gather round!"  That's one of the lyrics from “Things Are Gonna Change,” Lealani's collaboration with Kid Koala on his new album, Creatures of the Late Afternoon.  It's a song about coming together, about engaging with one another, sharing a common pursuit, and pushing toward something new and exciting.  For both Kid Koala and Lealani, their work as artists—musical, visual, and otherwise—is always about gathering around: humans joining together, in shared experiences, creating something new.  For decades, Kid Koala's ethos has been all about togetherness. When he first burst onto the scene back in the '90s, he was bringing people together on the dance floor. His astonishing skills as a turntablist could instantly spark dance parties, as he joyfully spun funk, ska, jazz, and spoken word records into something new altogether.  In addition to that, Kid Koala's albums have always incorporated more to engage with, beyond the music: visual art, a hand-cranked cardboard turntable, a chess set, a graphic novel. His projects are often wildly ambitious—the Space Cadet Headphone Concert, an interactive Turntable Orchestra, a theatrical puppetry presentation. His latest album is a double LP that also happens to fold out into a playable board game.  Among his many featured collaborators on Creatures of the Late Afternoon is Lealani, a young art-pop firebrand who's very different from Kid Koala, yet a kindred spirit in many ways. Each one is a creative polymath and DIY dynamo.  He lives in Montreal; she's from Los Angeles, and there are decades between them, but artistically, they complement each other perfectly. And as we hear in this episode of Hidden Track, it turns out that these two one-of-a-kind artists can trace all kinds of surprising connections to one another.  They have many adventures together coming up, including a big summer 2023 tour. However, their first-ever jaunt out on the road together saw them play Calgary's Block Heater festival back in February.  The duo took time between their soundcheck and headlining show at Block Heater to come join us in CKUA's Calgary studios for a marvelous conversation. Between the ambient sounds of downtown Saturday night traffic, a band sound checking down the hall, and the wildly wide-ranging discussion, it almost felt like being inside a Kid Koala album. This is "Kid Koala x Lealani | Gather Round."  Producer: Scott Zielsdorf | Host: Grant Stovel | Graphics: Shaun Friesen | Music: Doug Hoyer
