Beytullah Yıldız kardeşimin Aşk-ı Turkuaz organizasyonuyla Mısır'a yaptığımız, 9 gün süren, MTO Azerbaycan temsilcisi Vuqar Azizov kardeşimin bizden aldığı seyahatimizin akışına dair somut bilgilere dayanarak kaleme aldığı seyahatin ilk gününün ikinci bölümünü yayınlıyorum bugün.

Dogs Are Smarter Than People: Writing Life, Marriage and Motivation
Talking about show vs tell at the scene level is a little bit harder than talking about it at the paragraph and scene levels. But it's also a tiny bit easier. When you're looking for telling at this level of the story, what you're looking for is a couple of things: A butt ton of backstory. A butt ton of info dumps A lot of flashback. You can have bits of these things in your stories. Where us authors get into trouble is when we have a lot of it and we have a lot of it in telling language. So, that really happens when we do this: Bud Godzilla looked down on his sweet friend turned zombie. They'd been friends forever, so this hurt. Three page description of how they met – info dump or backstory Or: Bud Godzilla looked down on his sweet friend turned zombie. They'd been friends forever, so this hurt. Three page scene of how they met – flashback. You usually want to limit these places and instead sprinkle in action/dialogue/details throughout to help the readers understand that the characters have history or the world exists before the book begins. There's a balance between telling too much and too little. You want the reader to anticipate that something cool is going to happen or has happened, but you don't want to leave them confused or knowing way too much. You know how sometimes you'll be on the plane and the person will not stop talking for six hours about their boil, their aunts' piano obsessions, their dinner plans while you just want to finish watching the inflight movie? That's what happens with those paragraphs of backstory, flashbacks and info dumping. Everything is paused. The stakes are gone. And when that happens? You risk losing your reader completely. DOG TIP FOR LIFE Pogie says keep your eyes on the prize, my friend, and laugh. COOL WRITING EXERCISE TO MAX OUT YOUR SKILLS This comes from the Writing Cooperative and it's really about how to spot your info dump, which is an exercise. "Once you spot an info-dump, ask yourself the following questions: "How much of this information is it essential for the reader to know right now? Most of the information will not be essential. Be ruthless. Cut it out. "Of the information left — if any — how can I get the protagonist to do something which shows or implies the information? This may involve minor or major rewriting, but you do no-one any good by avoiding it. Rework or add scenes which convey the information through present situations and your protagonist's actions. "If the information is necessary, how can I use it to enhance the emotional effect of the scene? Key in on the emotional impact of the scene and if you must retain information that can't be shown or implied, look for ways to add it in a way that will have an emotional impact. ;But the woman you saw can't have been my mom, Angie. Mom died when I was a kid.'" Her zaman patlamaya hazır bombayı andırıyor. Büyük Balkan Seyahati yazılarımız, Balkanların geçmişten geleceğe uzanan karmaşık hikâyesinin görünür görünmez boyutlarını her yazıda kalemi olgunlaşan MTO'muzun demirbaş talebelerinden Seyfullah Yiğit kardeşimin dinamik kalemi ve gözlem gücüyle ruh dolu bir dille okuyucuyla paylaştı. Bugün bu yazıların sonuna gelmiş durumdayız. Seyahatimizi an be an, gün be gün kaleme alan, kayda geçiren, Balkanlar'a seyahat yapacak kardeşlerimize rehberlik edecek güzel bir kaynak oldu. Ara ara Yusuf Kaplan Hocamız da katkı yapıyor Mihmandar Süleyman'a. Külliyeler bir üniversitedir aynı zamanda. Buralarda hâlâ Kur'an okunur.
Evet, şu an rahatlar çünkü Türkiye'ye güveniyorlar. Hakikaten kaç kişi bize bakıp İslâm'a ısındı?
Köhne (Eski) Ürgenç'in medeniyetimizde oynadığı rolü örnekleriyle ayrıntılı
We are so stoked to have our brother Will Hanza of Escaper back on No Simple Road this week! Escaper was formed in 2015 by Will Hanza (guitar, vocals) as a musical collective that pushed creative freedom. Joined in 2017 by Phil Kadet (keys, vocal), the band has become known for fun and fiery sets throughout northeast venues and music festivals. The band has welcomed sit-ins with members of bands such as the Disco Biscuits, Brazilian Girls, Thievery Corporation, Rubblebucket, Dopapod, Cabinet, Turkuaz and more. They have previously shared bills at Brooklyn Bowl with Jon Fishman (Phish), Karl Denson, and many other top performers. After a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, they have been joined by drummer Sam Crespo and bassist Luke Bemand. Crespo and Bemand bring a wealth of experience to the band; Crespo tours with notable future jam act Space Bacon, while Bemand handles the low end for heavy groove trio, lespecial. The band recently released the EP, "Spaceship", which was a collaboration with Telefunken Studios. "Spaceship" is now all streaming and download platforms. We had a blast talking with Will about:playing Phish afterparties and what those crowds bring to the table. If reading a crowd and feeling their vibe is a learned skill or are you just born with it.What creating the new album 'Spaceship' was like. His thoughts on practice and if it is simply building memory in order to be able to let go.Overcoming your own headspace in order to be able to perform. How the "No Shorts On Stage" rule works. What gems he found during isolation.... and so much more!Head over to www.escapermusic.com for tour info, merch, and more!INTRO MUSIC PROVIDED BY - WILL HANZA OF ESCAPER-FREE SHIPPING from Shop Tour Bus Use The PROMO CODE: nosimpleroad-Make Sure to visit our friends at Fire On The Mountain for some amazing food at one of the 3 location in the Portland area or one of the 2 location in the Denver area!-CHECK OUT THE NSR EXCLUSIVE BETA PREVIEW OF www.venuellama.comMUSIC IN THE COMMERCIALS BY AND USED WITH PERMISSION OF:CIRCLES AROUND THE SUNOUTRO MUSIC BY AND USED WITH PERMISSION OF:CHILLDREN OF INDIGONo Simple Road is part of OSIRIS MEDIA.
Musician and producer Dave Brandwein makes his ILRR debut to discuss forming the band Turkuaz with his friend in college and taking the funk band all the way to Red Rocks and Bonnaroo, the fallout of their very public breakup, rising up from the ashes with not one but two excellent new projects, playing a Paul McCartney and Wings set with original Wings member Denny Lane at Jazzfest, his love of Talking Heads and stand up comedy, and much more!
071 - Turkuaz's Dave Brandwein And Adrian BelewIn episode 71 of “Have Guitar Will Travel,” James Patrick Regan talks to guitarist/frontman Dave Brandwein of the band Turkuaz, and guest guitarist Adrian Belew, discussing its beginnings at Berklee School of Music, and the dynamics of being a group with nine members! The conversation turns to gear, including what Adrian has used going all the way back to 1980, as well as the original guitar synthesizers and touring with David Bowie. In this episode, Michael and Clifford interview Dave Brandwein. Dave Brandwein is the frontman, guitarist, and one of the creative forces behind the phenomenal band Turkuaz. www.Turkuazband.com Balancing male-female harmonies, strutting guitars, wild horn arrangements, and interminable grooves, a spirit takes shape on stage nightly for Turkuaz via larger-than-life performances. Among numerous critical plaudits, The New Yorker claimed, “[Turkuaz] delivers horn-filled funk incorporating elements of R&B, psychedelic pop, gospel, Afro-pop, New Wave, classic rock, and just about any genre that gets people dancing.” The Brooklyn-based nonet—Dave Brandwein [guitar, vocals], Taylor Shell [bass], Craig Brodhead [guitar, keys], Michelangelo Carubba [drums], Chris Brouwers [trumpet, keys], Greg Sanderson [tenor sax], Josh Schwartz [baritone sax, vocals], Sammi Garett [vocals], and Shira Elias [vocals]—ignite an explosion of energy punctuated by neon hues, deft musicality, and show-stopping singalongs on their newest EP, Kuadrochrome. Touring incessantly in support of four full-length studio albums, EPs and live releases, they’ve lit up stages everywhere from Bonnaroo, Hulaween, Okeechobee, Electric Forest, and Mountain Jam to Telluride Jazz, High Sierra, and Lock’n, in between gracing stages at legendary spots such as Red Rocks, Terminal 5, and The Fillmore, to name a few. Since emerging in 2011 with their self-titled debut, the group have quietly animated a movement.

ADAM DEITCH B-DAY EXTRAVAGANZA! Episode 032 of *The Upful LIFE Podcast* is proud to welcome the one & only ADAM DEITCH to the show! It's an honor & privilege for this esteemed gentleman to slide through for a proper powwow. To celebrate his 4/26 b-day, we dig into a pair of fresh records: Lettuce's new LP Resonate (5/8), & his own forthcoming solo electronic EP The Age of Imperfection, AND check-in with his fam. Literally! His wonderful parents BOBBY & DENISE DEITCH hop on the phone to discuss all things Deitch. Bobby Deitch Band new album dropping 5/15, so we get the scoop on that, plus loving parental reflections on Adam & his boys. Ep.032 finishes strong with the great RYAN ZOIDIS (sax - Lettuce, AD4, BrkSci Live Band). Zoid has collab'd with Adam Deitch for nearly a quarter century, he's a world-class musician & vibrant conversationalist. This episode is a family affair. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADAM! #DeitchBeatsDontQuit - ISOLATION STATION v.4 ADAM DEITCH intro - 6:00 BOBBY & DENISE DEITCH intro - 41:00 RYAN ZOIDIS intro - 1:17:30 Adam Deitch needs no introduction. He's steadily among the more celebrated drummers in the game for over two decades, laying the foundation for modern funk music. He pushes the art skyward, prolific in hip-hop, electronic, and jazz. He's been the iconic engine powering Lettuce ever since the future-funk cosmonauts first took flight, back in the mid-1990's at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Their collective trajectory has been astonishing, as has his own journey in music. In addition to slaying with LETT, Deitch has collaborated with everybody from John Scofield to Pretty Lights to Redman & beyond. The GRAMMY-nominated artist is dropping new music left & right, even on quarantine. Deitch stays perpetually in motion, getting busy with his electro-soul duo Break Science, plus his own soul-jazz group Adam Deitch Quartet (featuring Ep.024 guest Wil Blades, and Lettuce's Ryan Zoidis (interviewed later in this program) & Eric Benny Bloom (Ep.017). Transmitting from Denver, CO., Adam brings us into the Resonate recording and mixing sessions with super-producer Russ Elevado, as well as the band's writing and studio processes. Deitch discusses how LETT creative vibes coalesce, a general modus operandi for the current squadron, and highlights Elevado's dutiful influence. The drummer teases some possible dream collabs, with insightful backstories of how & why they might just happen. Adam gets into the "Funkin from Home" project, then pivots into his own production concepts, ideas, and compositions with regard to new electronic EP The Age of Imperfection. The dude waxes philosophic about sampling traditions, newer trends in the culture, then shows love to some young gunners pioneering the wave in that lo-fi hip-hop space. He tickles the fans with some clues about a new Nigel Hall solo album in the works. Maybe more Break Science acoustic? Towards the end, AD reveals his thoughts on the myriad of emotional elements ever-present in his rhythms & compositions. Universal language inherent in so much that he studies & loves. Always humble, forever a student, yet effortlessly the teacher. Fantastic, fulfilling, & deeply informative Adam Deitch interview! Here's to another ring around the sun, shogun! Bobby & Denise Deitch were kind enough to make time for the podcast from their home/studio in Nyack, NY, just outside the city. Topics include: how the duo is sheltering-at-home, forthcoming album from Bobby Deitch Band titled Work With Whatcha Got, due May 15. Bobby Deitch breaks down his band, process, collaborators, song ideas, themes and intentions in rolling out this new record, which features Michealangelo Carubba & Shira Elias from Turkuaz (both guests on this show in the past), in addition to living legend George Porter Jr., Lettuce's Nigel Hall, among other special guests. Denise frequently chimes in with some funny tidbits on their shared creative energy and how the couple carefully builds a song from scratch. Naturally, I asked Adam's parents for some reflections on their son, his bands, their brotherhood, and his ever-prolific output. Get the latest on Bobby & Denise Deitch music HERE ENTER THE ZOID VOID: The final conversation is a profound exchange with my dear friend RYAN ZOIDIS, whom I reached super late on 4/20 night at his home in Portland, ME.. Zoidis is another LETT co-founder, & part of Adam Deitch Quartet, Break Science Live Band, Soulive's Shady Horns, critically-acclaimed Rustic Overtones, & Royal Hammer (Portland roots-reggae crew). Zoid gets personal how the relationship with his young daughter has evolved and transformed during quarantine. How the virtuoso saxman has improved as both musician & teacher. We revisit Russ Elevado's Voodoo touch, how the venerable producer magically elevated the LETT sessions with poignant palette cleansing of the highest order. Zoidis pulls the curtain back on a couple of favorite Resonate joints, floats dreamy ideas for a psychedelic improv/instrumental LETT release, and how the band's recent jaunt through Europe brought the squad even closer, vibrations onstage and off. Zoid kicks knowledge & drops science on natural wines, & introduces his new 'natty-wine' distribution company Benny & Zoid Selections, with bandmate Eric Benny Bloom. Meanwhile, what's up with a rumored wild collab project with Tycoon & Jesus Coomes!? We wrap up this sesh with a string of enlightening topics, beginning with Ryan's beautiful recollections & ruminations on his relationship with the Deitch family. Zoid offers parting thoughts on Still Bill, and seminal dancehall DJ Toyan's timeless classic LP How the West Was Won. Large Up Ryan Zoidis! One of my favorite dudes on earth, hands down. The EP will be released May 29th and available wherever you listen to music, is inspired by her time in New York and in many ways represents a career path she had always intended. In light of the current situation at hand, this podcast has transitioned to focus on what we are living through, both collectively and in quarantine. These are our stories. In addition, we also hear from a beloved member of the music community DJ Richie G, plus the long awaited return of J.A. To lift spirits, the pod wraps up with a magical personal reflection from the host. RIP Ellis Marsalis, Bill Withers, John Prine ISOLATION STATION v.2 DJ Richie G intro at 6:00 Leading things off is DJ Richie G, a Lettuce superfan and longtime member of the jam/funk music community. He's also a multi-genre DJ in his spare time. Richie Grossman has already contracted, battled and recovered from the corona virus, so we check in with him to hear his story, the gory details and inspiring recovery. JAMES CASEY intro starts at 30mins Then we touch base with JAMES CASEY of TREY ANASTASIO BAND, who checks-in from Hawaii, where he's been quarantined for several weeks. I've known James for about a decade now and have been a big fan of his for even longer, so it was an absolute joy to get a chance to interview him, though we both wished it were under different circumstances. James was among the first people in my network warning and informing people about the oncoming pandemic, as far back as mid-February. He lets us know just why he was alarmed before most of us, and how he's dealing with the current reality. Part of that has to do with severe asthma, which stems from a near-death experience, an astonishing tale from James! Of course, he speaks about his joining TAB and his tremendous trajectory with that ensemble. why he admires and envies Trey, and a little bit about his own music, too. Thanks to James Casey! SHIRA ELIAS intro at 57min SHIRA ELIAS of TURKUAZ, who was a fantastic interview on Episode 013 of this podcast, jumps on the phone from the desert in Arizona. Shira tells the story of relocating her whole life from NYC to Los Angeles while the virus was taking hold in the US. She takes us through journeying cross-country, then retreating to the desert for some peace and space. We get the scoop on her forthcoming EP/project Shira Elias' Goods & Services, and the debut single “Burnin'” that drops Friday 4/10. Shira reflects on Turkuaz “None's A Ton” concert film, and why this downtime, though difficult, has been good for her in a number of ways. The Upful LIFE Podcast ADORES Shira Elias! THE Return of J.A. - intro at 1hr 17min FINALLY. Jason Abrams has come BACK to The Upful LIFE Podcast. What a heart-filling chat with my boy back in Philly. A music-culture encyclopedia/philosopher, pro wrasslin' authority, Delaware Valley noted Phishtorian, J.A. is the most loyal and hilarious friend anyone could ever be blessed enough to have. After over a year since his last appearance, Jason comes back to the show to discuss what's goin' on right now in Philly, The Phish from VT: Island Tour revisited & Sigma Oasis, plus the music business and pro-wrasslin's future in a post-COVID entertainment industry climate. Great personal story from J.A to close out his long-awaited re-emergence. I sat down with Juliana Todeschi to talk about PR strategies in 2020: Content Marketing, Aesthetic, Building Relationships, and Music Marketing outside of the Music Industry. The Kudrachrone EP marks a rebirth of sorts for Turkuaz, taking the band back to a more soulful R&B sound more similar to the Stereochrome EP. In fact, they’ve also shelved the colorful outfits of the last several album cycles in favor of just four colors for their on stage presence; white, black, tan and grey. Dave Brandwein has always been really great about joining us on the podcast to explain what is going on with Turkuaz, but this time we also invited Dani, his wife, and the band’s creative director on to help explain this new chapter. Turkuaz recently released Afterlife Vol. 2, a collection of songs that didn't make their last album, Life in the City or the first EP Afterlife Vol. 1 and it features tracks that continue to see the band evolve and experiment. "Better Get Ready" as an example stretches the boundries of funk into what can only be described as a rock sound. We're impressed that they are bold enough to take chances and try new things. Thats brave. So we caught up with Dave "Blue" Brandwein to talk about the second volume of Afterlife to see what the band has going on, and what their plans are for the future. Our conversation started when I suggested to Dave that this final Afterlife EP puts a nice two year bow on all the band has been working on. To find out more visit turkuazband.com. Episode 013 of *The Upful Life Podcast* welcomes very special guest Shira Elias of Turkuaz ! We caught up with the vixen vocalist on a SF tour stop in early February. Despite being the "newest member" of the band, Shira was among the first in the KUAZ clan that I connected with off the stage, and we'd been eyeing a proper long form powwow ever since I first interviewed her for L4LM a couple years back. "The Question" by TURKUAZ 2.02.19 Fillmore SF (13min mark) SHIRA INTERVIEW BEGINS AT 17MINS Shira explains just how she ended up singing with Turkuaz, one of the hottest bands on the scene; detailing her path from British Columbia to the Big Apple, from the theater world of Broadway dreams onto the stage with Brooklyn's finest funksters. The very-personable singer heaps hella praise upon her amazing bandmates, and pulls back the curtain a little bit on how the 'KUAZ keeps kicking so much ass, night by night. She tells a heartwarming story about an early The Nth Power performance, how she was spiritually moved that morning, and why that was the very moment when Shira realized she was right where she's supposed to be. I asked Shira no-holds-barred to share some of her personal and professional experiences with regard to being female in the male-dominated music industry. Thanks to her willingness to be a veritable open book & go deep, we cover the past, present and future of Shira, Turkuaz, and more with a dynamic personality, vibrant vocalist, and wonderful human being. Thank you Shira Elias! Episode 013 special thanks & LARGE UP to Funk It Blog and the incredible Randy Bayers! One of the most essential assets to the scene, a true historian and collector. Peep game HERE. In keeping with the divine feminine vibe of the past couple of episodes, I included in Episode 013 a brief conversation with my own mother, Irma Feld Getz, aka "Irmzie". She was visiting the Bay Area from Philly in mid-January, just as *The Upful LIFE Podcast* was getting it's groove. My mom will be attending her 11th NOLA Jazz Fest this spring, is a lifelong music fanatic, and has hoped that I might interview her for some time. And for a while now, I've wanted to introduce her to the podcast audience. In this short segment, Irmzie describes how and why music culture is in our shared DNA, offers a little Philly music history, and some proper Jazz Fest chatter. Welcome to the podcast world, Mom! The Rock'N Vino podcast sits down with BottleRock Co-Founder and Partner of BottleRock Presents Dave Graham about this year's line-up. Find out about what's new, what's happening, and what to expect from the year's festival as long as a breakdown from Coco and Mike on this year's line-up. NAPA — BottleRock Napa Valley producers today unveiled the lineup for the seventh incarnation of their annual wine country festival, held at the Napa Valley Expo between May 24 and 26—Memorial Day weekend. This year's lineup features a new twist with the festival featuring dual headlining sets each night. Friday includes alt-rockers Imagine Dragons and rapper Logic. Saturday has Neil Young and Promise of the Real, along with R&B superstar Pharrell Williams. Rootsy rock band Mumford & Sons and guitar virtuoso Santana will close out the festival on Sunday, May 26. The lineup again features more than 80 artists over the three days. "We've expanded the capability of the second stage," BottleRock CEO Dave Graham said. "We wanted to be able to attract some major acts to play the second stage at the same time the main stage was playing, and that's exactly what we did this year." The bill is rounded out by a slate of eclectic artists, including Sylvan Esso, OneRepublic, Flogging Molly, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Cypress Hill, Tash Sultana, Lord Huron, Big Boi, Bishop Briggs, Jeff Goldbum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra and others. Graham said the addition of Young is particularly meaningful this year. "Neil Young has not performed in the Bay Area, publicly, since the last Bridge School Benefit Concert back in 2016," he said. "What an honor for us to have a legend like him up on our stage." BottleRock will again feature it's culinary stage pairing celebrity chefs with musicians, actors and Bay Area luminaries cooking up unique dishes for festivalgoers, along with the festival's focus on the region's best food and wine. The culinary stage lineup will be announced in April. "This year, BottleRock is also a part of the prize offerings for [TV show] Top Chef, so the winner will get an appearance on the Culinary Stage this year," Graham said. Last year, more than 120,000 camp out to see performances by Bruno Mars, The Killers, Muse and others. Tickets go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the festival's website. Dave Brandwein of Turkuaz sits down with Funkatopia's Mr. Christopher to discuss the new album Life In the City
Pilot episode of The Upful LIFE Podcast, hosted/curated by B.Getz, a music-culture reporter and historian. We're lucky to have our first guest TURKUAZ drummer MICHELANGELO CARUBBA for a long-form sitdown, which took place during High Sierra in NorCal back in early July. (The early part of the interview takes place while a band is playing nearby, please excuse the background blues; we eventually relocated to a quasi-suitable quarters for the majority of the convo.). Mikey talks ‘Kuazology, their live album 040717, Denny Laine and playing with heroes, his lifelong connection to Tower of Power drummer David Garibaldi. After the music nuggets, Mikey takes a turn for the serious, heartfelt, and inspiring, no-holds-barred recounting the circumstances that led to his sobriety, We spend time detailing his budding relationship with a Vermont-based singer/songwriter. Turkuaz is slated to drop Live in the City, a brand new studio LP, on September 28th. The episode's second half features a spirited segment with J.A., one of the host's lifelong friends going back three decades. J.A. and B.Getz first met in the press box at a KISS show on the Hot in the Shade Tour in 1989. Turns out they both went to Bret Harte Elementary School in Cherry Hill, NJ, and have been best buddies ever since. J.A. is an authority on everything from glam metal to pro wrasslin', as well as Springsteen and The Rolling Stones. Jason is a noted Delaware Valley Phishtorian, so for this first segment, the old friends get on the phone to chop it up about the state of the union and all things The Phish from VT. ~bg~ The Upful LIFE Podcast is available on iTunes! Though the record won’t be out until September 28th, I did have a chance to sample it, and have to tell, you it might be their best to date. You can tell that the band, fronted by Dave Brandwein has really coming together and matured on this record. As you’ll soon hear, this record was more collaborative then past efforts, and sonically you can tell that this band is hitting their studio stride. Long known for awesome live performances, I suspect Turkuaz will take another giant leap forward with their brand of funk, R&B, rock, and psychedelia. We chatted with Dave Brandwein about recording the new record, the song writing process and some other cool things. You should definitely check out turkuazband.com for tour dates, to pre-order Life in the City and much more. Seth and Rob give a quick introduction to set the table for a collaborative interview with Mike Wilson of Voodoo Visionary and Nick MacDaniels of Big Something. Voodoo will be performing at the Big Something-hosted-and-curated Big What Festival the weekend after this episode is released. This conversation begins on common ground with a discussion of DJ Logic and Turkuaz as each band has collaborated with each of these artists. The quartet segues neatly into a discussion about selecting and working with producers and then Nick sheds light on the learning curve that goes along with throwing one's own festival and the importance of creating something special with a friendly atmosphere. Nick also opens up about losing his best friend, and one of the chief creative forces behind Big Something, Paul Interdonato....when things get a little heavy Mike steps up and talks about some of Voodoo's biggest non-musician influences. Each of them also speak about the support (and lack thereof) as well as some of their frustrations with local media in each of their markets. The musicians also share a "gig nightmare" story each, and they discuss some of their most recent material (including Nick elaborating on specific songs from their 2018 release The Otherside). Nick also reveals which verse of the brilliant "Sundown Nomad" was written by Mister, who will perform with Big Something at The Big What (Nick also waxes on some of his favorite collaborations over the years). Then we are all treated to solo versions of Big Something songs "UFO's Are Real" and "The Cave" from the 2017 release Tumbleweed delivered by the ever-gracious MacDaniels. Seth and Rob then wrap up the show with some musical world thoughts of their own, including reports about recent shows each has seen (Phish, Patti Griffin, Amanda Shires and others) and Rob's appearance on the Alpharetta version of the Osiris Phish Couch Report. wTnS is Produced by Rob Turner and Engineered by Josh Thane of Wonder Dog Sounds Studio. www.joshthaneproductions.com www.wonderdogsounds.com All social media management, promotion and website maintenance/building done by Harris Sullivan. wTnS is a proud partner of the Osiris Podcast Network. Eric and Mark of Madaila joined guest host Bob Colquhoun on 'Rocket Shop', Big Heavy World's local Vermont music radio hour on 105.9FM The Radiator. They were here to talk music and their big gathering on Saturday September 2, Madaila on Main. They will be closing down Main Street in Burlington to headline a large lineup of bands including Turkuaz, Caroline Rose, Wild Adriatic, Rough Francis, Swale, Harsh Armadillo, and DJ Phantom.
Describing Turkuaz as a pure funk band doesn’t do the musicians in this band enough justice, they play it all. Favorites on the Jamband Festival scene, these guys know how to bring the party wherever they go. I had a chance to sit down with Dave Brandwein the front man for the group just before they left for Bonnaroo…….. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Turkuaz, a colorful 9-piece power funk band from Brooklyn, shares how the band originally formed, chose their name and grew their fan base. Singers Sammi and Shira read through a list of the band's rules of the road - which they break all the time, and we also get a chance to hear from Thor Harris, the original author of the viral list: "How to Tour in a Band or Whatever." Stephen gets to practice a fascinating vocal tip. Thank you to our sponsor Izotope for making our show possible. Special thanks to Stephanie Deluca Photo credit: Dani Brandwein

In this episode I talk with Nikki Talley, a singer/songwriter that has spent the last four years living in a van with her husband Jason Sharp. Most musicians say they live in a van or bus, but Nikki and Jason gave up a good job and their house to become full time musical vagabonds--a dream many have, but few would ever attempt. We talk about their decision to go to the Telluride Songwriting Contest and why placing second might have been better than placing first. Nikki also talks about having 500 songs written and how the idea of success changes as we get older. We listen to four songs: "Travelin On" 25:28 "Rainy Day" 51:11 "Railroad Boy" 1:05:11 "Go Out On The Water" 1:21:08 This episode is brought to you by The Big What. A NC music festival hosted by Big Something that takes place July 21-23 near Mebane, NC. Featured headliners include: Turkuaz, Spiritual Rez, Dr. Bacon, The Werks, and Pigeons Playing Pingpong.
