British post-punk superstars Wire always seem to be ahead of their time, no matter what time they exist in. Returning guest Garry Messick (American Doom Podcast) brings us their twelfth studio album, 2011's mysteriously diverse, surprisingly melodic 'Red Barked Tree'. 34 years into their career at the time of its release, Colin Newman, Graham Lewis and Robert Grey STILL manage to make quite a racket, and it's a beautiful racket indeed... After Midnight - Wire (Live at The Roxy, London 1977); (Theme from) American Doom - Jonathan Wilkins; Mannequin, Ahead, Outdoor Miner, Please Take, Now Was, Adapt, Two Minutes - Wire; Take Off - Githead; Clay, Bad Worn Thing - Wire; My Wife and My Dead Wife - Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians; Moreover, A Flat Ten - Wire; Subterranean Homesick Blues - Bob Dylan; Smash, Down To This, Please Take, Red Barked Trees - Wire; (Theme from) American Doom - Jonathan Wilkins; Red Barked Trees (Live Paris, France 2011) - Wire
Todays's episode, unlocked from the Patreon vaults, features the inimitable Scanner. Robin Rimbaud is an electronic musician who works under the alias Scanner, owing to his use of cell phones and police scanners in live performance. He is also a member of the band Githead with Wire's Colin Newman and Malka Spigel, and Max Franken from Minimal Compact. He has composed a vast number of electronic works, particularly for dance organisations around the world, and he is a much-loved lecturer and advocate for humanitarian and socialist rights. He is also very funny. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Scanner... If you can, please support the Electronically Yours podcast via my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/electronicallyours
Baxie talks to Malka Spigel! Malka was not only the bass player for the innovative Israeli post-punk band Minimal Compact, she is also the longtime musical collaborator with her husband, Colin Newman from Wire (who was my guest during last week's episode). Malka talks about working with her husband on such projects as Githead and Immersion. She also talks about her amazing new release "Gliding and Hiding" and the story behind it. It's really interesting conversation with a remarkably talented artist. Available on Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud, Spotify, and on the Rock102 website.
Wire's Colin Newman gives Kyle Meredith a ring to take him through the details of 1979's 154 for its 40th anniversary, as well as 1989's IBTABA. They also take some time to talk about the importance of Immersion and Githead, his two bands outside of Wire, and what's been happening in those camps. And to top it all off, Newman says that they're working on the new Wire record right now for a 2020 release. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

On today's episode I talk to musicians Colin Newman and Malka Spigel. Married since 1986, Colin and Malka are a post-punk power couple. Colin is a member of the seminal post-punk band Wire, whose early albums Pink Flag, Chairs Missing and 154 were the blueprints for decades of music. And Colin continues to be a vibrant creative voice with his solo albums, and his work with his wife Malka in Githead and Immersion. Before her collaborations with Colin, Malka was a member of the influential European rock band Minimal Compact, who released numerous albums in the 1980s on Crammed Discs. Immersion's latest album Sleepless was just released, and it is wonderful! This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, follow me on Twitter.
