As a parent, a trip to the beach on a hot, summer day can be exactly what the family needs to complete the perfect vacation. However, as a diligent father, you always have to be aware of possible dangers – even on a remote, sandy beach reminiscent of a pristine paradise getaway. Crashing waves, strong undertows; did we apply enough sunscreen? Why is that one scene from ‘Jaws' continually running through my mind… I know, I'm paranoid, but again that's the job of a parent, right? Most likely, a scenario, that isn't a fear of mine or on my radar, is the possibility that a Cold War-era nuclear bomb is sitting, quietly on the bottom of the ocean floor just off the coast of the beach we're enjoying. That would be something right out of a science-fiction movie, right? Surely that would never and could never happen; I mean our government would deactivate or remove entirely a weapon of that magnitude that would put the entire eastern-seaboard of the United States at risk. Well Missing Chapter listeners…. Think again. It's not the plot to some Hollywood film and it's not fiction. Learn about the amazing, and terrifying, true story of the live nuclear warhead sitting just off the coast of the U.S. and, more importantly, find out where it's located before you plan your next family trip. Welcome back to the Zen(ish) Mommy Podcast! Now that the world has opened back up, maybe you have been bitten by the travel bug once again. As moms, the task of travel planning often falls to us. There are so many benefits to outsourcing your travel plans to experts, or, perhaps even becoming the expert yourself! Today's guest, Henley Vazquez, has created an entire company around the idea that moms are the travel planners in the household, and she wants you to turn that passion into a money-making hustle! Fora is a company enabling anyone to turn their interest in travel planning into revenue through flexible and fun work. Henley's hope is to make family travel more accessible, and more enjoyable! Join us today to hear from Henley, and how you can also begin to make money from your travel-planning expertise.Key Points From This Episode:An introduction to today's guest, Henley Vazquez, with Fora. The pent-up demand for travel following the restrictions during the pandemic.Henley's background and childhood, which surprisingly involved very little travel. Her career history leading up to starting Fora, including starting a boutique travel agency.Where Booking.com falls short as a tool for us to use.How the pandemic has changed the landscape of travel. An example of how a travel agent will help you to get better value for your money while the hotel pays the agent. Why approaching an agent trumps renting a vacation property from the owner. The ‘vibe' element that you can only get from a person who has been to a location.Horror stories from Henley's travel stories with kids and the amazing support service providers have given her.Leading with compassion for other parents while you are traveling. Why it is so important to have diverse voices in the family travel space. How people can work part-time in the travel agency space. Why working as a travel agent comes down to working in sales. The benefit of working in travel in comparison to real estate. Her favorite part of the job: seeing people who have always wanted to have an experience finally getting to have it.Why the memories are so much more valuable than other experiences you could have. How Fora goes about connecting you to the person with the right expertise for your needs. Why so many of her team members are her own former clients. What she loves the most about her business: her team!Henley's tip for women who want to slow down: create boundaries for yourself.Tweetables:“Booking.com is not going to help you when borders close, or when that hotel doesn't want to give you a refund. There's no religion in Booking.com and that's what makes it a company that investors love, but it's what makes us as humans not like it, because they're not there to help you.” — Henley Vazquez [0:06:02]“You have to be opinionated because that is what's going to turn you into a salesperson. It really is a sales role.” — Henley Vazquez [0:25:47]“It doesn't always have to be a 17 person safari for it to be an epic trip. Just watching those moments of seeing people finally being able to do what they've been waiting to do, it's really wonderful.” —Henley Vazquez [0:30:36]Links Mentioned in Today's Episode:Fora TravelFora Travel on Instagram Henley Vazquez on LinkedInHenley Vazquez on Instagram The Zen Support the show

Jay wants to Road Trip the Alcan Highway.Things you need on driving the alcon highway by Hannah Lukaszewicz1. SPARE TIRE Driving down the Alcan Highway there is no shortage of potholes that are sure to at your tire (or some may swallow your car whole). We suggest traveling with a full-size spare tire. It could easily be several hundred miles from the next town with an auto body shop.2. GAS CAN There are stretches along the Alcan Highway where there are no gas stations for 200+ miles. Make sure to have a full gas can for emergencies. We bought this 5-gallon gas can on Amazon and it fits perfectly in the middle of our spare tire. 3. ALASKA MILEPOST Alaskans refer to the Milepost book as “the bible to Alaska”. This book has a ton of Alaska information and Alaska maps. It gives a mile by mile description of every highway including accommodation, camping, gas, restaurants, attractions, viewpoints, etc.4. POWER INVERTER Not all electronics can be charged off your car's 12-volt outlet/cigarette lighter port. Having a power inverter is a must especially for charging computers and camera batteries.5. BATTERY STARTER CAR JUMPER If your car dies at home you more than likely will call a friend to come to jump you…well that isn't an option on the Alcan Highway. You'll want a battery starter that doesn't rely on another car.6. TIRE JACK Most cars come with a tire jack, but before you start your drive to Alaska make sure yours is still there. Next, make sure it isn't all rusty and actually works to raise your car high enough to change a tire.7. SATELLITE PHONE If you are driving to Alaska alone or have a loved one that is and you want some peace of mind you might want to consider getting a satellite phone. Satellite phones have been cheaper over the years and wouldn't be a bad idea to have.8. MULTIPLE USB CAR CHARGER Drive days are long and passengers in the car are most likely going to be on some sort of electronic. Make sure to pick up a multi-port USB car charger so your multiple things can charge at once.9. ROAD ATLAS MAP A good map is a must. Don't plan on having data on a majority of the Alcan Highway except in cities. We love our Rand McNally road atlas, it has great detailed maps and points out campgrounds which are great for finding a place to pull over for the night.10. MUSIC Make sure you have Sirus XM radio or a long playlist. No joke there were days where there wasn't a single radio station available. Our 2006 Honda Odyssey wasn't set up for Sirus XM so we had to buy this XM car kit. Or listen to Collage Travel Radio. 11. SNACKS I still remember the day I asked a shop owner where the nearest fast food place was and he told me 10 hours that way (pointing to Alaska) or 4 hours that way (where I just came from)…So yeah make sure you have plenty of snacks in the car. There are sit-down restaurants along the way but if you are like us and you want the drive to Alaska to be over then sitting down for an hour meal isn't an option.12. WATER It's always good to have a few gallons of water just in case your car breaks down. Very few of the designated campsites had water pumps and the ones that we did use we used for cooking & dishes but didn't drink them.13. TOILET PAPER/BABY WIPES If there are no gas stations for 200+ miles that also means no bathrooms…so it's best to have a roll of toilet paper or baby wipes in the car. There are plenty of areas to pull over and do what you go to do but DON'T litter. Make sure to bring your tissue with you and throw it away at the next available garbage can.

In today's solo episode, I share what I saw on my family vacation at Walt Disney World. One child got spanked, one got kicked and one had water tossed onto their face. We need to rethink what discipline is as a society and more importantly, we need to re-learn emotion regulation skills. It is ok to have a moment when you lose control and yell, but physical aggression, verbal abuse, and emotional abuse should never be an option against a child or any human. I think parents need lots of tools and support, so technically these parents might not know how to replace their behavior and how to deal with their own big emotions. Let's chat about this, shall we? Join me at 9 pm ET on Monday, October 3rd for my first YouTube Live event where I will discuss what ACEs are and why I think we should avoid spanking.
