Quatre mois après la publication des dossiers Epstein par la justice étatsunienne, de nouveaux témoignages de victimes du criminel sexuel, mort en prison en 2019, sont recueillis chaque semaine. En France, une dizaine de nouvelles victimes présumées se sont manifestées auprès du parquet de Paris, a déclaré le 17 mai la procureure Laure Beccuau sur RTL. Certaines ont pu échapper de justesse au prédateur sexuel, comme Juliette, 43 ans aujourd'hui, une ancienne mannequin française qui a rencontré Jeffrey Epstein il y a plus de 20 ans. Depuis février, deux enquêtes ont été ouvertes dans l'Hexagone sur le dossier Epstein, l'une sur les violences sexuelles, l'autre sur le volet financier. Le criminel sexuel, qui a vécu à Paris de nombreuses années, avait des recruteurs qui repéraient pour son compte des proies potentielles. C'étaient souvent des mannequins, à qui on faisait miroiter de futurs contrats. Quand elle entend le nom de Jeffrey Epstein à la radio en 2019, Juliette est en état de « sidération ». Et pour cause, elle a croisé le chemin de cet homme, aujourd'hui reconnu comme un criminel sexuel, alors qu'elle était mannequin, il y a plus de vingt ans. De cette époque, Juliette a presque tout gardé : son book, ses échanges de mail, ou encore son carnet d'adresses, où sont notamment inscrits à la main les contacts de Jeffrey Epstein, ou encore de Daniel Siad, recruteur de mannequin. Elle apprendra bien plus tard que cet homme est suspecté par le FBI d'avoir été « rabatteur » de jeunes femmes pour le compte du criminel sexuel. Et c'est ce même homme qui l'aborde dans la rue à Paris en 2004 entre deux castings, voyant qu'elle est mannequin, pour lui proposer des opportunités de travail à New York. À l'époque, Juliette s'estime en fin de carrière. Alors après avoir consulté son agence de l'époque, qui lui a assuré que ce David Siad était quelqu'un de reconnu et fiable, elle accepte. Elle reçoit dans la foulée un billet pour New York, et pour instruction de demander un visa touriste : « On me donne l'adresse d'un appartement dans New York, je ne savais pas s'il était lié à une agence ou pas, on ne m'avait pas donné du tout d'information, ni de processus, quelle agence j'allais voir, quel était le planning. Je n'ai pas trop cherché à comprendre, je pars du principe que je suis dans un processus professionnel, donc si on ne me donne pas d'information, c'est certainement qu'il n'y a pas besoin de poser des questions. » Juliette rencontre une première fois brièvement Jeffrey Epstein, qui n'a pas le temps de la recevoir, prend son passeport, et lui donne rendez-vous le lendemain. Entre temps, au téléphone, sa mère, déjà très méfiante, s'inquiète d'un réseau de trafic sexuel, lui dit d'aller récupérer son passeport et de partir. « Je vous préviens, je ne ferai rien » Elle explique qu'elle n'a pas le choix, et que puisqu'il ne s'est rien passé, aucune situation ne lui a fait penser qu'il pouvait y avoir un danger : « J'avais un objectif, c'était de faire le tour des agences et d'avoir un contrat. » Le lendemain, Jeffrey Epstein la reçoit, tente de la mettre à l'aise, lui fait visiter les lieux. Il lui montre une salle de musculation, et Juliette observe que cela ne ressemble pas à un immeuble d'agence de mannequin : des photos en gros plans de parties intimes de femmes recouvrent certains murs : « Je regarde ça avec beaucoup de curiosité en me disant mais qu'est-ce que cette fascination pour des parties intimes de femmes. J'ai trouvé ça un peu déplacé, et ça a commencé à me mettre une petite puce à l'oreille. » Juliette suit Jeffrey Epstein dans un couloir, avec des chambres de part et d'autre. Il entre dans l'une d'elles, s'assied sur le lit et lui fait signe de venir. C'est là qu'elle sent qu'il y a un piège. Elle s'arrête à l'entrée de la chambre et lui dit : « Je vous préviens, je ne ferai rien », pour lui faire savoir qu'elle n'ira pas plus loin. « C'était une chambre, pas un contexte professionnel », raconte-t-elle. Jeffrey Epstein la rassure, lui dit qu'il veut juste s'assurer qu'il peut lui faire rencontrer ses agences partenaires. Elle entre dans la pièce, il lui demande de se mettre en sous-vêtements, ce qui est fréquent dans le métier, mais il lui fait aussi retirer son soutien-gorge, ce qui l'est beaucoup moins. Juliette est mal à l'aise tandis que Jeffrey Epstein tourne autour d'elle, l'examine, lui touche le corps : les hanches, les fesses. Il lui dit qu'elle n'est pas encore « prête », autrement dit qu'elle a des kilos en trop. Il lui explique qu'il lui faudra environ trois mois avant d'être présentée à des agences, et lui propose un accès à son réseau de salles de sport. Mais c'est lorsqu'il lui propose des petits boulots alternatifs pour gagner de l'argent « en attendant d'être prête » qu'elle comprend qu'il faut fuir : hôtesse dans une compagnie aérienne privée, accompagnatrice en soirée. Juliette fait le lien avec des histoires sordides qu'elle a pu entendre dans le passé dans le milieu du mannequinat. Elle sait que certains usent de leurs pouvoirs pour abuser de jeunes femmes. Alors elle se rhabille, dit à Jeffrey Epstein qu'elle va réfléchir, et lui demande de récupérer son passeport. « Je pense qu'il a senti que je n'allais pas me laisser faire, ou que j'avais compris son fonctionnement », explique-t-elle aujourd'hui. Prise de conscience après l'incarcération du criminel sexuel Elle reste quelques temps à New York, passe d'autres castings, mais comprend vite que Jeffrey Epstein l'a mise sur liste noire auprès de toutes les agences : « Encore aujourd'hui, je ne sais pas comment, en étant allé aussi loin dans le processus, ça n'est pas allé plus loin, c'est de la folie. Je me rappelle que, ne sachant pas qui il était, je n'en parlais pas beaucoup, parce que j'avais honte. Honte d'une part, si c'était une opportunité de mannequinat, d'être partie, et d'un autre côté, si c'était un réseau pédo-criminel, honte d'avoir cru que ça pouvait être autre chose. » Après des années à se repasser la scène dans la tête, Juliette ne comprend qu'en 2019, lors de l'incarcération du criminel sexuel, ce à quoi elle a échappé. Car Jeffrey Epstein a été condamné pour sollicitation de prostitution et incitation de mineurs à la prostitution à 18 mois de prison, mais il n'en fera que 13, après une réduction de peine pour « bonne conduite ». Puis il est arrêté par le FBI en juillet 2019, et retrouvé mort un mois plus tard dans sa cellule. Aujourd'hui, l'ancienne mannequin constate que le criminel sexuel l'a fait passer par des « paliers de soumission » pour voir jusqu'où elle était prête à aller pour trouver un travail. Elle a déposé son témoignage à la police judiciaire en 2019, peu de temps après l'éclatement de l'affaire. Et son nom figure dans les Epstein Files, les quelques trois millions d'archives du prédateur sexuel publiées par le ministère de la Justice américain, le 30 janvier 2026. Her colleagues are choosing to leave reality for virtual worlds, leaving her increasingly alone in the echoing halls. Technology in this world is both a savior and a wedge. Gamers control "remote-in" robots to repair the building's exterior, earning points in a high-stakes simulation that blurs the line between work and play. Some residents, like Phyllis, have abandoned their failing biological bodies entirely. They transfer their brains into specialized containers to pilot sleek, doll-like robotic frames that feel no pain. The tension lies in the divide between the "root world" and the virtual one. While Tomika struggles with mud and maintenance, others spend their days in a VR paradise where they can eat without calories and live in pristine digital farmhouses. This tech offers a release from the trauma of the storms, but it also creates a society of "reality-challenged" individuals who are slowly forgetting how to exist in the physical world. You have to wonder what you would choose if the world outside was a constant hurricane. Would you stay in the drafty halls with Tomika, fighting to keep the geothermal plant running? Or would you take the "canal link" and the stasis bed to live a perfect, simulated life? The story explores that thin line where survival ends and checking out begins.TechPhase-change cooling system uses a liquid that freezes and melts at room temperature to store cold at night and absorb heat during the day for stable indoor conditions without loud machinery. Enzyme welding technology uses biological catalysts and crystallizing foam to bond and reinforce structural surfaces. Vibration sensors detect hairline fractures and weak spots in the building's outer walls. Crystallizing foam is a repair material that blooms outward, liquefies grime, and hardens to strengthen damaged surfaces. When Lenise Bent entered the L.A. audio engineering scene in the late ‘70s, she didn't mind that it was primarily a male dominated industry. Through a chance meeting with Leon Russell at his home studio, she was swept away with the studio atmosphere, the sound, and it was her curiosity about the recording console and gear that captured her spirit and sent her down the path of becoming a recording engineer. She was determined to work with the best equipment, the best studios, and the best musicians. And she did. She's credited on some of the best sounding albums that were ever recorded, including Steely Dan's “Aja”, Supertramp's “Breakfast In America”, Marc Jordan's “Mannequin”, Blondie's “Autoamerican”, and “Tusk” by Fleetwood Mac, just to name a few. Here to discuss her incredible journey as a pioneering audio engineer is none other than Lenise Bent.
