Bax and O'Brien Morning Rock 102 - 102.1 WAQY-FM Springfield, Ma!
The Bax & O'Brien Podcast is a must-listen for any long-time fan of the show or those just discovering the comedic genius of Mike Baxendale and John O'Brien. With over 20 years of experience in the radio industry, it's no wonder these guys have a loyal fanbase that spans across the country. The addition of Steve Nagel to the trio only adds to the dynamic and makes for hilarious banter and insightful conversations.
One of the best aspects of The Bax & O'Brien Podcast is their ability to keep things fresh and entertaining. They don't shy away from controversial topics or humor that may offend some, which sets them apart from many other podcasts. It's refreshing to see hosts who are unafraid to speak their minds and offer a unique perspective on current events and pop culture.
Another standout aspect of this podcast is their deep dive into music. Bax's musical podcasts are a treat for fans who appreciate classic rock but also want to discover new sounds. The interviews with musicians from bands like The Sex Pistols, Talking Heads, Metallica, and more provide an inside look at iconic artists and their music. It's a great way to gain a fresh perspective on well-known bands while also introducing listeners to lesser-known gems.
While there aren't many negative aspects to this podcast, one could argue that it may not be suitable for everyone. As mentioned before, their humor can be offensive to some listeners, so it's important for potential listeners to understand that going in. Additionally, some episodes may delve into topics that not all listeners find interesting or relevant.
In conclusion, The Bax & O'Brien Podcast is a fantastic listen for anyone who enjoys good comedy and wants a fresh take on current events and music. With their witty banter, insightful interviews, and willingness to tackle controversial subjects head-on, Bax, O'Brien, and Nagel create an engaging show that keeps fans coming back for more. Whether you're a long-time listener or just discovering their podcast, this trio is sure to keep you entertained and laughing.

Baxie talks Kula Shaker frontman Crispian Mills! For nearly thirty years Crispian and Kula Shaker have been making music that seamlessly blends incredible pop songs with both psychedelia and the spiritual culture of India. The result of which vaulted the band to release one of the fastest selling debut albums in British history! With hits like "Tattva", "Hey Dude", "Gonvinda", and their amazing version of "Hush", their first album "K" was a massive platinum selling record. Today the original lineup of Kule Shaker is back and releasing new music--with two new singles out this summer. It's a classic episode of Baxie's Musical Podcast with guitar legend Carlos Alomar from June of 2023! From 1974 to 2003 Carlos Alomar was the longest serving band member during David Bowie's historic career. He served as one of the key members of Bowie's infamous D.A.M. rhythm section--playing during the most artistically power stretch of his career. But that's not all. Carlos has played on more than 30 different gold or platinum albums with an enormous resume that includes names like James Brown, Chuck Berry, Bruce Springsteen, Duran Duran, Alicia Keyes, Iggy Pop, Luther Vandross, The Pretenders, Simple Minds (featuring his wife Robin Clark), Ben E. King, The Main Ingredient, and the late Tina Turner as well. This is one of the most astonishingly brilliant guests EVER! One of my favorite episodes! Absolutely amazing! Baxie speaks with Neil Gust from Heatmiser and No.2. In 1991 Neil Gust and the late Elliott Smith formed Heatmiser in Portland, Oregon soon after graduating from Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass. Heatmiser would release three albums including the critically acclaimed “Mic City Sons” in 1996. By this point Elliott Smith began her legendary solo career (which included six studio albums and a Grammy nomination for the music of the film Good Will Hunting). Neil Gust went on to form his own band, No.2, which released two exceptional records before leaving music for a very success career in commercial video editing. 20 years later Neil Gust would reform No.2 and release an amazing comeback album—“First Love” in 2022. Earlier this year, Gust released a great compilation of unreleased tracks with Elliott Smith entitled “The Music of Heatmiser”. Absolutely amazing!
