Bax and O'Brien Morning Rock 102 - 102.1 WAQY-FM Springfield, Ma!
The Bax & O'Brien Podcast is a must-listen for any long-time fan of the show or those just discovering the comedic genius of Mike Baxendale and John O'Brien. With over 20 years of experience in the radio industry, it's no wonder these guys have a loyal fanbase that spans across the country. The addition of Steve Nagel to the trio only adds to the dynamic and makes for hilarious banter and insightful conversations.
One of the best aspects of The Bax & O'Brien Podcast is their ability to keep things fresh and entertaining. They don't shy away from controversial topics or humor that may offend some, which sets them apart from many other podcasts. It's refreshing to see hosts who are unafraid to speak their minds and offer a unique perspective on current events and pop culture.
Another standout aspect of this podcast is their deep dive into music. Bax's musical podcasts are a treat for fans who appreciate classic rock but also want to discover new sounds. The interviews with musicians from bands like The Sex Pistols, Talking Heads, Metallica, and more provide an inside look at iconic artists and their music. It's a great way to gain a fresh perspective on well-known bands while also introducing listeners to lesser-known gems.
While there aren't many negative aspects to this podcast, one could argue that it may not be suitable for everyone. As mentioned before, their humor can be offensive to some listeners, so it's important for potential listeners to understand that going in. Additionally, some episodes may delve into topics that not all listeners find interesting or relevant.
In conclusion, The Bax & O'Brien Podcast is a fantastic listen for anyone who enjoys good comedy and wants a fresh take on current events and music. With their witty banter, insightful interviews, and willingness to tackle controversial subjects head-on, Bax, O'Brien, and Nagel create an engaging show that keeps fans coming back for more. Whether you're a long-time listener or just discovering their podcast, this trio is sure to keep you entertained and laughing.

Baxie talks with Steely Dan biographer Brian Sweet. His book “Steely Dan: Reeling in the Years” is about to be released on paperback this August. The book is the definitive story about how Donald Fagan and Walter Becker became two of the most unlikely Rock Stars in history. Brian follows the story that took them from being reclusive song writers at Bard College, to reluctantly performing on stage, to refusing to play live so that they could focus all of their attention on writing and producing some of the most flawless albums ever recorded. Such an amazing story! Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and on the Rock102 app! Brought to you by Metro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Chicopee!

Baxie talks to author/filmmaker David Leaf. For more the last 47 years David has been the trusted friend and biographer for Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. In his latest book “SMiLE: The Rise, Fall, and Resurrection of Brian Wilson” recounts the story of pop music's greatest lost album and how it came back to life. This is the single greatest story in the history of pop music. And David Leaf, who also made the brilliant documentary “Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson and the Story of SMiLE” (2004), has done an incredible job of diving even deeper into the story. It's an amazing conversation! Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and on the Rock102 app! Brought to you by Metro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Chicopee.

Baxie speaks with Steve Barton from Translator! While most people will remember the band from their 1982 hit “Everywhere That I'm Not” the story behind Steve's career is absolutely incredible! Steve has just released a new collection of singles that he's released 25 years called "Juggling Lightening: The Singles Collection". Meanwhile, Liberation Hall records has just released a previously unavailable live recording from Translator's final show before breaking up in 1986! The name of that new album is called, "Beyond Today: Live at The Farm, San Francisco 1986". And oh yeah, Steve is also working on his ninth solo album which is expected to come out later this year! But that's not the half of it! The story behind Steve's career is nothing short of amazing! Listen on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, and on the Rock102 app! Baxie welcomes back Barry Andrews from Shriekback! Barry has just released Shriekback's 18th album, “Monument!”. Barry not only talks about the album, but he also talks about starting the band in mid-80's with the late Dave Allen (former bass player with the Gang of Four) who died last month at the age of 69. Barry (the former keyboard player and original member of my favorite band-XTC) talks about the idea of aging, touring, playing solo, and about his very specific thoughts about releasing his music! One of the most notorious bands of all time—Paul talks about upcoming live album “Live at the Leather Fly” and about their new documentary “Butthole Surfers: The Hole Truth and Nothing Butt” which premiered this year at SXSW! He talks about the band, signing with Capital Records, and about playing live! On top of that we also get into his incredible resume of production work for bands like U2, Sublime, Weezer, Jane's Addiction, and the Meat Puppets. Baxie welcomes back Mark Burgess from The Chameleons! The Chameleons have just released their 2nd EP over the last ten months (“Where Are You” and Tomorrow Remember Yesterday”). These two new releases represent their first batch of new music since 2001. A new full-length album is due later this year. The Chameleons are one of the great yet most overlooked bands of all time. If you know The Chameleons, then you know what I'm talking about out. If you don't know them—you need to. They were a band that could have (and should have) been in the same conversation with the likes of The Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen, and The Cure. Instead, they chose a different path. You can hear more about that in my interview with Mark Burgess from May of 2024. This time we talk about reforming the band, recording new music, and the power of their live performances over the years. The Chameleons are coming to Big Night Live in Boston on April 30th. Just a magnificent band. And I don't throw that word around lightly. Listen on Apple Podcasts, YouTube, Spotify, and on all Rock102 digital platforms! Brought to you by Metro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram
