Playlist:Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory - TroubleTennis - Weight Of DesireBiig Piig - 9-5Swimming Paul - MuttJoy Orbison, Joe James - bastardOklou, underscores - harvest skyGAZZI, NIDIA - LágrimaBad Bunny - BOKeTEpablopablo, Ralphie Choo, Carin Leon - Eso Que Tú Llamas AmorMaria José Llergo - Bien de AmoresLa Tania - QUERELESΣtella - Omorfo MouPanda Bear - Ends MeetDestroyer - Hydroplaning Off the Edge of the WorldVera Fauna - Sale el solWilco - ... Heaving ourselves into 2025 like a rebuilt BILLY with half its dowels missing, No Tags returns to its usual schedule. We kick off with a journey to the North Circular, where London's biggest club is under investigation following two drug-related deaths and an alleged stabbing. Following the recent revelations about Drumsheds in Jim Waterson's excellent London Centric newsletter, Tom and Chal ask: why is it so hard to have a realistic conversation about safety in clubs?Next we indulge in one of our favourite anorak pastimes – arguing about arbitrary historical groupings of underground records! We contend that 2013 was the best year for album releases so far this century, with DJ Rashad, Oneohtrix Point Never, Sky Ferreira, Kanye West and Dean Blunt among the strong portfolio of evidence. Finally, an announcement! ‘Tis the season for hibernating in front of the TV and racking up those numbers on Letterboxd, and in that spirit we are proud to present – adapted from an original opinion by DJ and friend-of-the-show Finn McCorry – the first ever No Tags film season! Introducing: Big Beat Cinema. Look out for that next week.In the meantime, if you enjoyed this episode of No Tags, please do rate, review and subscribe on your podcast app of choice, as it does really help. We'd also ask you to consider subscribing to our paid tier, which costs £5 a month and helps us continue planning, recording, editing and transcribing these regular podcasts – or in the case of next week's episode, will go towards renting some seriously ropey turn-of-the-noughties films. LISAS is a DJ emerging from the New York techno scene whose expertise spans a multitude of roles. In this case Wear Many Hats. I met LISAS when MixMag came back to life and I was photographing an event where we crossed paths and knew she looked awfully familiar. It was because I saw LISAS play the night before opening up at Paragon for a Boy Harsher DJ set and friend and guest of the show, Promiseland with Pictureplane in the basement. LISAS has worked behind the scenes live sound for raves and festivals, as a sound engineer in recording studios alongside David Byrne, Floating Points, and Oneohtrix Point Never. Performed in The Rapture. When LISAS transformed into a DJ she already hit the ground running and has opened up for Boys Noize and closed for Justice. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've got a fantastic chat featuring three boundary-pushing musicians that turns into a lovefest: It's Daniel Lopatin, better known as Oneohtrix Point Never, along with David Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke, who were known together as Gastr del Sol. Lopatin has created an incredible body of experimental records over the past 20 or so years. His woozy, sample-heavy early material had him pegged as the inventor of vaporwave, but he never stays in the same musical place very long. He broke through to a different audience with soundtracks for the Safdie brothers' movies Good Time and Uncut Gems, and Lopatin is also heavily responsible for the sound of The Weeknd's records, where he's credited as an executive producer. The tenth Oneohtrix Point Never album, called Again, came out late last year, and once again it found Lopatin utilizing a new set of inspirations, one of which was the post-rock movement of the 1990s, which figures heavily into today's conversation. More on that in a minute, but first check out “Again,” the title track from the latest Oneohtrix Point Never album. Featured on that track was none other than Jim O'Rourke, an experimental musician and producer perhaps best known to the pop-music world for working on Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost Is Born. But O'Rourke's cv is far too vast to dive into here, and the focus of this conversation is his 1990s collaboration with fellow musician David Grubbs in a band called Gastr del Sol. That duo burned bright for a few years, amassing a catalog that's difficult to pin down, ranging as it does from arch orchestral pop to more rangy, experimental songs. They disbanded in 1998, leaving the world on a high note with their poppiest yet perhaps weirdest set of songs, Camofleur. Gastr del Sol's legend has only grown in the meantime, and they finally got around to releasing some new-old material just this year, in the form of a combination live album/rarities set called We Have Dozens of Titles. True to their ethos, it's neither a standard odds and ends package or a greatest hits, but rather combines an excellent live recording—of what turned out to be their final concert—and songs that had been previously orphaned on various compilations. Check out “The Seasons Reverse” here, which is referenced in this chat. Speaking of this chat… Talkhouse conversations are usually more two-way streets than this one, but it turns out that Daniel Lopatin is a huge Gastr del Sol geek, so he ends up asking most of the questions. He's got deep-seated opinions and interesting theories on their music: They chat about getting into music, about specific passages in Gastr songs, about the idea of indie-rock as a genre, and about the time Gastr del Sol was asked to license a song for a tentacle porn movie. Oh, and Daniel calls Gastr del Sol's music trashy. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Daniel Lopatin, Jim O'Rourke, and David Grubbs for chatting. "This Is How I Win."

On episode 18 of "Hot Takes" season 2, we brought on some vaporwave up-and-comers to join us on the show: Sonavision Deluxe and Komit! Sona and Komit, the wizards behind the breakout independent electronic release "Creation", took over "Hot Takes" with the bois for a couple of hours' worth of production techniques, secret inspirational sauce, and ranting and raving about good and bad art alike with the live audience in chat. Having received critical acclaim due to their recent release and work with acts like Windows96, we felt it necessary to pick Sona and Komit's brains, owing to the quality of their sometimes psychedelic, always maximalist digital synthwork. In this latest episode, we get to rant and rave about the redeeming qualities of such musical acts as Oneohtrix Point Never, Rush, Siouxsie Sioux, Van Halen, Windows96, and more. We get to deep dive into Sona and Komit's favorite video game OSTs, with Sona and Shiro sharing a moment over the "Octopath Traveler" soundtrack. Ambient maestro Gigi Masin describes living in Venice and always being surrounded by water as making you like a sailor. His seminal 1986 LP Wind was almost entirely lost in a flood in this city, but over the years, his music has continued to find new fans, Gigi's been sampled by everyone from Bjork to Post Malone and counts Oneohtrix Point Never, Devendra Bahanart and Caroline Polachek as supporters. A philosphical, deeply empathic human in conversation, he talks to Paul about transforming grief into celebration, and how he did this through paying tribute to his late wife on his new album Vahinè. And when someone whose nearly 70 years old looks and sounds barely 50 - then its worth listening as they're obviously doing something right. For this week's Record Club, Jake and Ryley have a blast breaking down legendary modern electronic mastermind Daniel Lopatin's 2015 masterpiece as Oneohtrix Point Never, the abrasive and heavily conceptual Garden of Delete. Join us as we unpack the strange and affecting concept and ideas behind this remarkably unique tentpole of 2010s electronica, and how it threads the needle between the industrial rock of the 90s and modern sonic sensibilities, while still being refreshingly unfashionable in its own exciting ways. Better check your heart rate, because we're not just watching this film, we're EXPERIENCING it. This 2019 movie directed by Josh and Bennie Safdie not only delivers anxiety-ridden thrills, but also what we're calling the great redemption arc of Two Dudes, Brews & Reviews history with Adam Sandler's performance here. From the same man that brought you films like Jack and Jill and That's My Boy brings us a performance that probably deserved at the very least an Oscar nomination. Now he's promised to bring us one of the worst movies of all time for being snubbed. Fuck you Academy! Let us not forget other great performance by LaKeith Stanfield, Idina Menzel, Julia Fox, and Judd Hirsch. I mean, Sandler makes sports bets, hangs out with Kevin Garnett, fights The Weeknd, and it's all supported by a great soundtrack by Oneohtrix Point Never - what more could you want???
Welsh artist Kelly Lee Owens has a special grasp on techno. She can make it sound wild and naturalistic, like wind blowing through a dense forest, or make it feel cold and sleek, like a gleaming slab of chrome. Either way, though, it's always full of emotion, thanks to the intricate textures and distinctive tones of her voice. You might even say she takes a singer-songwriter approach to techno, but that doesn't mean her music isn't suited for the dance floor. Her most recent album, LP.8, marks a step away from the dance floor, however, and into a place a little more dark, more unpredictable. It's also some of her most gorgeous work, centering around "Anadlu," an eight-minute cut that feels perfectly pitched between ambient and techno, with heavy, lumbering drums but an otherwise lightweight, almost wispy feel. Owens' RA Podcast occupies this zone almost perfectly. Beginning with 11th century music from Hildegard von Bingen, it ties all sorts of traditions together, from Pan Sonic to Throbbing Gristle to Marco Shuttle to Oneohtrix Point Never & Rosalía. It floats, it accelerates, it loops and doubles back in on itself, an hour of gripping electronics from one of techno's most distinctive voices. Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/841

"Hot Takes" episode 19 showcases illustrious ambient and experimental vaporwave producer Golden Living Room! Joel was itching to come on the show, and we were flattered to feature such a renowned artist from the early heydays of Dream Catalogue, known also for collaborating with the prolific artist Telepath テレパシー能力者 and performing at both ElectroniCON festivals. This latest episode flew right by and had a lot of memorable moments, including a handful of special attendees, like Shiro's dad and a Golden Living Room superfan that tuned in during the early morning hours in their country. There may or may not have been some insight into what it's like to play guitar during a praise and worship service. Shiro definitely bored Skelly to tears as he and Joel gleefully ranked the Final Fantasy games and discussed other JRPG's. A shared moment of appreciation for seminal Oneohtrix Point Never album "R Plus Seven" between all three boys may have transpired, and a lengthy discussion about death and near death experiences possibly was had. But you'll never know if we made all this up or if it really happened until you hit the play button on the latest episode of vaporwave talk show "Hot Takes"! "Hot Takes" is a safe space for all opinions! Join the conversation at https://linktr.ee/hottakesvapor

We were joined by the one and only boocanan to talk about three of the best artists of the last ten years at three unique moments in their careers: James Blake's eponymous debut album, Age Of by Oneohtrix Point Never, and CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST by Tyler, The Creator. Next time, Regs and I are gonna talk about some jazz music!! I've just been on a jazz kick and we're indulging with two artists we love: Bitches Brew by Miles Davis and Journey to the One by Pharaoh Sanders! Jason & Jenn are joined by Dylan Garsee this week to put a keg of Bud on ice and head on down to Ma's basement!
