Today there are currently fewer global citizens living in open and free democratic systems than in 1989, a sobering fact underlining the rapid global expansion of authoritarian regimes around tthe world. According to Moisés Naím, the world has made itself safer for tyrannical leaders to install themselves, often using the "three Ps" of populism, polarisation and post-truth, putting both fragile and established democracies at risk of extinction. In Naím's latest book, "The Revenge of Power: How Autocrats Are Reinventing Politics for the 21st Century," it is argued that these environmental factors of propaganda and polarization are compounded by harsh economic circumstances, including inflation and inequality, placing greater pressure on democracies and raising public discontent with the state, paving the way forward for authoritarian opportunists. In this podcast conversation with host Robert Amsterdam, Naím discusses and contrasts his experiences in Venezuela with the tragedy of January 6th in Washington DC, and points to the utmost importance of having a well informed citizenry and what can be done to regulate disinformation while exploring what other options should be explored to better protect the world's remaining democracies from tyranny.

The Twelfth Step reminds us “to practice these principles in all our affairs.” In NA, we see living examples of this suggestion all around us. The more experienced members, who seem to have an aura of peace surrounding them, demonstrate the rewards of applying this bit of wisdom in their lives. To receive the rewards of the Twelfth Step, it is vital that we practice the spiritual principles of recovery even when no one is looking. If we talk about recovery at meetings but continue to live as we did in active addiction, our fellow members may suspect that we are doing nothing more than quoting bumper stickers. What we pass on to newer members comes more from how we live than what we say. If we advise someone to “turn it over” without having experienced the miracle of the Third Step, chances are the message will fail to reach the ears of the newcomer for whom it’s intended. On the other hand, if we “walk what we talk” and share our genuine experience in recovery, the message will surely be evident to all. ––––=–––– Just for today: I will practice the principles of recovery, even when I’m the only one who knows.
Our motives are often a surprise to us. In our early days of recovery, they were almost always a surprise! We’ve learned to check our motives through prayer, meditation, the steps, and talking to our sponsor or other addicts. When we find ourselves with an especially strong urge to do or have something, it’s particularly important to check our motives to find out what we really want. In early recovery, many of us throw ourselves into service with great fervor before we have started the regular practice of motive-checking. It takes awhile before we become aware of the real reasons for our zeal. We may want to impress others, show off our talents, or be recognized and important. Now, these desires may not be harmful in another setting, expressed through another outlet. In NA service, however, they can do serious damage. When we decide to serve NA, we make a decision to help addicts find and maintain recovery. We have to carefully check our motives in service, remembering that it’s much easier to frighten away using addicts than to convince them to stay. When we show them game-playing, manipulation, or pomposity, we present an unattractive picture of recovery. However, the unselfish desire to serve others creates an atmosphere that is attractive to the addict who still suffers. ––––=–––– Just for today: I will check my motives for the true spirit of service.
Check out my latest episode!Basic Text, p. 84 ––––=–––– Recognizing complacency in our recovery is like seeing smoke in a room. The “smoke” thickens when our meeting attendance drops, contact with newcomers decreases, or relations with our sponsor aren’t maintained. With continued complacency, we won’t be able to see through the smoke to find our way out. Only our immediate response will prevent an inferno. We must learn to recognize the smoke of complacency. In NA, we have all the help we need to do that. We need to spend time with other recovering addicts because they may detect our complacency before we do. Newcomers will remind us of how painful active addiction can be. Our sponsor will help us remain focused, and recovery literature kept in easy reach can be used to extinguish the small flare-ups that happen from time to time. Regular participation in our recovery will surely enable us to see that wisp of smoke long before it becomes a major inferno. ––––=–––– Just for today: I will participate in the full range of my recovery. My commitment to NA is just as strong today as it was in the beginning of my recovery.

TSM falls in day two against Tribe, which allows Tribe to get to the finals for a big match up against Rogue. Rogue falls 2-0 to Tribe but is still 3 points ahead of TSM for first. Tribe is still in the race though and weekend 4 will be the final showdown for teams to secure that worlds spot. On this milestone episode of Time For Rolling esports, we get to celebrate our 50th episode and Halloween. A lot of scary things happened during weekend number two of split two that the guys sit down to discuss. In EU, SK is taken down in day one by G2. SK needs just a few more points to lock in the EU worlds spot. Saltypotatoes also had a strong performance this weekend, making it to the finals against G2. G2 takes that series and is only four points behind SK. Worlds is not far from the reach of G2 either. In NA, Cloud9 is able to get a win in day one against Nova esports. They have been struggling to get to the finals since the end of split one. TSM, unfortunately had to play without VONC due to getting his wisdom teeth removed. They paid the price by dropping 2-1 against Hammers. Hammers makes it all the way to the finals against Rogue who had a pretty good weekend with Sibs subbing in. They fall 2-1 to Hammers, but receive enough points to edge past TSM and C9 for first place. A lot happened during weekend 2 and the race for worlds is getting more and more intense each weekend.Coach BLG3RNTTwitter- @blg3rnt_vgFind Time for Rolling online:- on Twitter: @timeforrolling- on iTunes: itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/time-…ing/id1208249251- on Google Play Music: play.google.com/music/m/Ic2wbj6mc…=Time_for_Rolling- on Discord: discord.me/abcFind Time For Rolling eSports online:- on Twitter: @TFR_eSports- Hosts: @Endless55vg & @CrudeSlothvgFind GingerAndABeard online: - Twitter: @gingerandabeard-Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/gingerandabeard-youtube-https://www.youtube.com/c/gingerandabeard See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On this episode 047 of Time For Rolling eSports, the guys sit down to discuss this weeks upcoming start of Vainglory8 split two. This split is where we will see the teams who deserve a Worlds spot emerge. We are about to have 4 weeks of madness. In EU, SK gaming is sitting pretty on top. They are coming off of a long week in Las Vegas for the Mobile Masters tournament, so we will see if they got enough practice on 2.9. In NA, we see TSM winning 7 games in a row in Vegas. That was their hometown, you know they weren't about to lose any games there. But they will need to keep their win streak going in order to reach a Worlds spot. On the 046 episode of Time For Rolling eSports, the guys recap the last weekend of split one. Our current teams sitting in first place have been decided. In EU, SK gaming wins once again to have a total of 24 points. FNATIC is well behind with only 8 points. We will have to see a flawless split 2 so they can make a strong case at a Worlds spot. In NA, we finally see TSM reclaiming their top spot. They take down the past weeks champion, Cloud9 in the semis. Rogue is able to come back for being down 1-0 not once, but twice this week. They will reach the finals once again, but fall short 2-0 against TSM. Cloud9 is at the top of the point standings, but Rogue and TSM are not far behind.
