In this episode of Crazy Wisdom, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Hannah Aline Taylor to explore themes of personal responsibility, freedom, and interdependence through her frameworks like the Village Principles, Distribution Consciousness, and the Empowerment Triangle. Their conversation moves through language and paradox, equanimity, desire and identity, forgiveness, leadership, money and debt, and the ways community and relationship serve as our deepest resources. Hannah shares stories from her life in Nevada City, her perspective on abundance and belonging, and her practice of love and curiosity as tools for living in alignment. You can learn more about her work at loving.university, on her website hannahalinetaylor.com, and in her book The Way of Devotion, available on Amazon.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversationTimestamps00:00 Stewart Alsop welcomes Hannah Aline Taylor, introducing Loving University, Nevada City, and the Village Principles.05:00 They talk about equanimity versus non-duality, emotional mastery, and curating experience through boundaries and high standards.10:00 The focus shifts to desire as “who do I want to be,” identity as abstraction, and relationships beyond monogamy or labels.15:00 Hannah introduces the Empowerment Triangle of anything, everything, nothing, reflecting on reality as it is and the role of perception.20:00 Discussion of Nevada City's healing energy, community respect, curiosity, and differences between East Coast judgment and West Coast freedom.25:00 Responsibility as true freedom, rebellion under tyranny, delicate ecosystems, and leadership inspired by the Dao De Jing.30:00 Love and entropy, conflict without enmity, curiosity as practice, and attention as the prerequisite for experience.35:00 Forgiveness, discernment, moral debts, economic debt, and reframing wealth consciousness through the “princess card.”40:00 Interdependence, community belonging, relationship as the real resource, and stewarding abundance in a disconnected world.45:00 Building, frontiers, wisdom of indigenous stewardship, the Amazon rainforest, and how knowledge without wisdom creates loss.50:00 Closing reflections on wholeness, abundance, scarcity, relationship technology, and prioritizing humanity in transition.Key InsightsHannah Taylor introduces the Village Principles as a framework for living in “distribution consciousness” rather than “acquisition consciousness.” Instead of chasing community, she emphasizes taking responsibility for one's own energy, time, and attention, which naturally draws people into authentic connection.A central theme is personal responsibility as the true meaning of freedom. For Hannah, freedom is inseparable from responsibility—when it's confused with rebellion against control, it remains tied to tyranny. Real freedom comes from holding high standards for one's life, curating experiences, and owning one's role in every situation.Desire is reframed from the shallow “what do I want” into the deeper question of “who do I want to be.” This shift moves attention away from consumer-driven longing toward identity, integrity, and presence, turning desire into a compass for embodied living rather than a cycle of lack.Language, abstraction, and identity are questioned as both necessary tools and limiting frames. Distinction is what fuels connection—without difference, there can be no relationship. Yet when we cling to abstractions like “monogamy” or “polyamory,” we obscure the uniqueness of each relationship in favor of labels.Hannah contrasts the disempowerment triangle of victim, perpetrator, and rescuer with her empowerment triangle of anything, everything, and nothing. This model shows reality as inherently whole—everything arises from nothing, anything is possible, and suffering begins when we believe something is wrong. The conversation ties money, credit, and debt to spiritual and moral frameworks. Hannah reframes debt not as a burden but as evidence of trust and abundance, describing her credit card as a “princess card” that affirms belonging and access. Wealth consciousness, she says, is about recognizing the resources already present.Interdependence emerges as the heart of her teaching. Relationship is the true resource, and abundance is squandered when lived independently. Stories of Nevada City, the Amazon rainforest, and even a friend's Wi-Fi outage illustrate how scarcity reveals the necessity of belonging, curiosity, and shared stewardship of both community and land.

The newly passed Genius Act is being hailed as a game-changer that could cement the U.S. dollar's dominance in the digital age. By requiring stablecoins to be backed 1:1 with U.S. dollars or short-term Treasuries, it promises to strengthen national security, cut wire fees, and pump trillions into America's debt market. But economist Christian Briggs warns of the hidden dangers: shifting monetary power from the Federal Reserve to profit-driven corporations, real-time surveillance of every transaction, and the terrifying possibility of accounts frozen without due process. While it could supercharge U.S. innovation and manufacturing, in the wrong hands it could mirror China's social credit system—where your money is controlled by politics, not freedom.

Drawing from Hadley's military service in Iraq, his spiritual reflections, and his studies on just war theory, the two explore how patriotism, faith, and war collide in the American story. Together they consider the church's entanglement with empire, the writings of Augustine and Aquinas, and how Christians today can faithfully engage politics without compromising spiritual integrity. The conversation traces Hadley's personal journey from neoconservatism to libertarian anti-interventionism, examining the moral weight of war through the lens of both history and Scripture. Topics include the Revolutionary War, America's modern interventions, Christian nationalism, and the enduring call of Christ to love neighbor and enemy alike. Brad Lander has been a fixture in New York's progressive political scene for nearly two decades now, and has earned a reputation as a strong advocate for bike lanes, bike share, driver accountability, and congestion pricing. This year, though, he's become known in a new way. As a candidate in a crowded Democratic mayoral primary, Brad cross-endorsed Zohran Mamdani, who eventually won the race with a margin that shocked the Democratic establishment. And in June, mere days before the primary ended, Brad was escorting a man named out of an immigration hearing when he was arrested by federal agents. Brad joins us to explain how his defense of the Prospect Park West bike lane as a then-new member of the New York City Council became a formative experience in his political career and why the courage and coalition building it takes to stand up for safe streets are also the same tools it takes to fight fascism. One of the big topics at the conference this summer was the use of large language models in the research process, especially in qualitative studies. We expand this discussion by asking: can qualitative research be automated—or augmented? Yes and no. Some of the advantages LLMs bring to the table are hard to ignore. LLMs can act as critical reviewers, as a consistency checker, as a provider of alternative perspectives on unstructured data, or to break path dependencies in the process of data analysis. They can also help find interesting outcomes that qualitative insights could explain. At the same time, the use of LLMs comes with thorny pitfalls. We know they are unreliable and hallucinate. And the output they create is… average at best. So if you use LLMs, make sure you are not using it for automation—do not lose touch with your craft or your data. Whatever tool you use, make sure you remain a virtuous scholar. Episode reading list Noblit, G. W., & Hare, R. D. (1988). Meta-Ethnography: Synthesising Qualitative Studies. Sage. Recker, J. (2021). Episode #391: A key figure at Article 19 for the Asia Pacific region, Lana exposes a dilemma: the tense dynamic between an accelerating tech industry and authoritarian governments' increasing digital control. Lana's background informs her examination of how tech operations affect human rights in countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam, and China.Authorities in oppressive Asian nations are increasingly delegating enforcement of their restrictive policies to private tech firms. In Myanmar, post-2021 coup, new legislation forces telecom and IT companies to comply with the cybersecurity law. Lana clarifies that Myanmar's military isn't just removing content directly; it's using laws to transfer censorship and surveillance responsibilities to the tech sector. This puts companies in an untenable position, forced to obey unconstitutional mandates while operating in a worsening economy, with internet shutdowns and conflict further complicating matters. There is also the inconsistent nature of content moderation. She suggests moderation policies often reflect “public opinion in Western countries and public pressure,” rather than consistent ethics. Moreover, weak or absent data protection laws leave users vulnerable, enabling companies to collect vast amounts of information.Despite these hurdles, Lana stresses civil society's essential role in ensuring digital rights. She advocates for a human rights-first approach, urging companies to conduct thorough impact assessments. “We want the private sector to be more transparent and responsive when things are flagged by civil society, and solve those issues together without a fear of being given to their authorities,” she emphasizes. While a universal policy is impractical, international human rights standards are important. “We should not stop and do nothing as a civil society just because it's complicated,” she stresses, placing accountability on both companies and users to ensure a safe, free online environment.

Ep. 198 (Part 2 of 3) | Polarity management pioneer and author Barry Johnson and adult development expert Beena Sharma are masterful teachers on the subject of polarities and what polarity thinking can bring to the world, benefitting our well-being at every level. Together they explain what polarities are, why they matter, how to apply and leverage them, and the essence of polarity wisdom: pursuing the upsides of opposite poles. Barry is careful to explain that although either/or thinking is the root of our troubles, both/and thinking by itself isn't the answer either. Integrating either/or with both/and thinking and recognizing the interdependence of all things is the road to transformation and, Beena adds, the engine of human development, of human maturity.Barry explains the profound spiritual understanding foundational to polarity wisdom and Beena details how polarities shift according to our developmental stage. In this episode of The Mel K Show, I am thrilled to welcome back my friend Chaz Holloway, author of Free World Theory. His work has challenged so many of us, myself included, to think differently about words, meanings, and the deeper truths behind the systems we live in. My mother and I both loved his book, and I always leave our conversations with more knowledge and perspective than when we began. This time is no different, as Chaz joins me to give an eye-opening presentation on one of the most urgent issues of our time: artificial intelligence. Chaz explains how AI has rapidly moved from science fiction into everyday reality. Jobs are being lost, deepfakes are flooding the internet, and bot armies are influencing public opinion on a massive scale. These are not small adjustments to our daily lives. They are fundamental shifts in how society functions, and most people have barely begun to grasp what they mean. We discuss the dangers of AI being weaponized to create new systems of control, including facial recognition, surveillance, and the potential for social credit scoring modeled after authoritarian regimes. Chaz highlights that many of the very engineers building these systems are now sounding alarms, warning that the consequences may be beyond anyone's ability to stop once certain thresholds are crossed. But this conversation is not just about fear. It is about awareness and preparation. Chaz has a unique gift for breaking down complex concepts into simple truths that anyone can understand. He reminds us that technology is a tool, and like any tool, it can be used for good or for harm. The key is to remain vigilant, informed, and engaged, rather than blindly accepting the narrative of those who profit from control. Here is what you will learn in this episode: How AI is already shaping our lives in ways most people do not recognize The dangers of deepfakes, bot networks, and propaganda powered by algorithms Why surveillance technology poses a threat to freedom in the West How the warnings of AI engineers should guide our vigilance What citizens can do to stay informed and resist systems of control Chaz also connects the rise of AI to larger philosophical and cultural questions. What does it mean to be human in a world where machines can replicate voices, faces, and even decisions? What does freedom look like when technology is integrated into every aspect of daily life? And how can we ensure that new tools serve the people instead of enslaving them? This episode is both a warning and a call to action. We cannot ignore what is unfolding before us. We must educate ourselves, support ethical uses of technology, and push back against those who seek to use AI as a weapon against liberty. Chaz Holloway's insights are timely, urgent, and deeply necessary. If you want to better understand the world we are stepping into, and how to protect yourself and your family from systems of control, this is a conversation you cannot miss. Romans 6:7 — The phrase “don't be a baby” is used in everyday language, but what does that imply? It does not mean that people should put aside their childish ways, but that they are no longer a child so they should act like an adult. In the sermon on Romans 6:7 titled “Freed from the Tyranny of Sin,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones expands on his previous sermon by highlighting the same emphasis that Paul writes about in this passage. Once again, Paul is confirming that the old self has died with Christ and so the Christian has been set free from sin. They are no longer under the reign of sin and should live in accordance to this truth. Those who are in Christ are justified from the guilt of sin. Paul once again proves the assurance of salvation. While mortal bodies may still be tempted with sin, Christ's Holy Spirit dwells within and are no longer under the rule of sin. In the final day when Christ calls the believers home to Heaven, mortal bodies will then be free of all temptation. Dr. Lloyd-Jones encourages God's people to lift their eyes to anticipate that glorious day.

Today we discuss childhood, fitness, and self-defense; the through-line is freedom. First up: Illinois has become the first state in the Union to mandate mental health screening for children in grades 3 – 12, so that conditions from trauma to anxiety can be detected early. How mandatory will these screenings be? How confidential? What is anxiety, and why are children better off learning to experience and solve their own anxiety, than to be coddled at every turn? We argue that anxiety—like pain, and sadness—are signals from your brain and body that should be listened to rather than erased. Also: childhood is a time of exploration, of mixing reality with fantasy, and should not be a time when adults' fantasies are imposed on children. Then: the New York Times cannot abide that anything that RFK Jr. does or says makes sense. Finally: do people have the right to defend themselves inside their own homes? Have we forgotten habeas corpus? Are the foundations of democracy coming apart at the seams? *****Our sponsors:Branch Basics: Get 15% off Branch Basics with the code DARKHORSE at https://branchbasics.com/darkhorse #branchbasicspodJolie: Beautiful showerheads that filter out the garbage without reducing water pressure. So many businesses are stuck in old-school command chains that slow everything down—ideas get filtered, approvals drag on, and by the time action happens, the moment's already passed. It's not that people lack good ideas—it's that the structure doesn't let them breathe. In a world where things shift overnight, the companies that cling to rigid control often find themselves left behind. Sometimes the biggest risk isn't trying something new—it's staying stuck in what once worked but no longer does. Rod Collins, author of Nobody is Smarter than Everybody, is known for helping companies move beyond traditional management. Today, he explores the tension between centralized control and decentralized collaboration—especially in the context of AI development. He warns that top-down systems risk turning AI into a tool of control, while peer-driven models can unlock its full human potential. His message is clear: the future of AI depends on how we choose to organize ourselves. Stay tuned! Quotes: “Innovation, in its first phase, is always disruptive. It's always some form of dissonance, and companies have to allow that.” “The real job of intelligence is uncovering unknowns as rapidly as we can, as early as we can, so that we are able to innovate and move as fast as the world around us.” “It isn't a war between humans and machines; it will be symbiosis.” Resources: Rod Collins | Exploring the Prerational Space, The Paradox of the Innovator: The Visionary vs The Daydreamer Rod Collins Connect with Rod Collins on LinkedIn

Gavin Newsom may be presiding over a failing California — a state crippled by homelessness, crime, high taxes, and mass exodus — but make no mistake, he’s no bumbling fool. Newsom is slick, articulate, and relentlessly ambitious. He fights, he spins, and he sells a utopian progressive vision that crumbles in reality but dazzles on camera. The most dangerous part? He’s tailor-made for the white liberal woman voter — the key demographic Democrats count on to swing elections. Newsom’s blend of Hollywood looks, polished rhetoric, and ruthless political instincts make him a formidable threat in 2028 or sooner. This isn’t just a failed governor — it’s a wolf in a perfectly tailored suit, ready to charm the country into the same ruin he’s brought to California.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Should the bus be free? That's the question everyone following the New York City mayoral race is asking, with Democratic primary winner Zohran Mamdani promising to focus on fast, free buses if he's elected to City Hall. Eliminating bus fares is a big idea, but is it a good one? Like a lot of things in politics, there's no simple answer. That's why we asked Yonah Freemark — a researcher in cities, land use, and transportation at the Urban Institute — to walk us through the pros and cons of making the bus free for everyone. Whatever you think about it, the good news is that everyone is talking about bus riders. That's a win in our book.
