If that sounds kind of out there, well, so is he, in the best way possible. We talked with him about why this country is divided into Houstons and New York Cities, why Boston does not exist, and how he came to write a love song to Robert Moses. Justice and the Allegory of the Philosophic King. Guest Author: Professor James Romm. Plato spent his final decades in Athens, completing The Republic. He categorized governance, placing tyranny at the bottom as a system driven by base appetites. He argued that a true king must be a philosopher to perceive the absolute "form of justice." Using the Allegory of the Cave, he described the philosopher's duty to lead those still in the shadows. The work concludes with the Myth of Er, a vision of reincarnation and the soul's journey. Souls drink from the River of Heedlessness, with the wise retaining subconscious memories of the perfect universe. 7
Urgent does not always mean important. And reacting all day is not the same as leading. In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, Paul Alex breaks down the tyranny of the urgent and why strategic prioritization is required if you want your business to actually grow. Let's be real… If your whole day is spent answering messages… Fixing minor issues… Handling tiny emergencies… And reacting to everyone else's problems… You are not steering the ship. You are just putting out fires. In this episode, you'll learn: Why loud problems are rarely the most profitable problems How urgent tasks steal focus from strategic growth Why visionary hours must be protected at all costs How prioritizing big moves creates cleaner systems, stronger execution, and real scale The truth is simple: Busy does not mean productive. Fixing small issues can feel good. Answering every message can feel responsible. Solving tiny fires can feel like leadership. But if the lead generation system is broken… The team needs better operators… The sales process is weak… Or the company has no long-term strategy… Then the urgent tasks are distracting you from the important work. High-level leaders do not let other people's emergencies control their calendar. They block out the noise. They protect deep work. They focus on strategy first. They build systems that make the daily fires disappear. Because strategy always beats reactivity. Stop majoring in minor things. Protect your visionary hours. Prioritize the big moves. And keep leveling up. Your Network is your NETWORTH! What should happen to drivers who kill or injure someone with their car? Does a focus on punishment for "reckless" or "dangerous" drivers let everyone else off the hook and never force them to look at the larger harms of a transportation system based around personal car ownership? Those are the questions asked by Ian Loader, a professor of criminology at the University of Oxford, who argues that the law's focus on "motonormative punishment" is just another way of masking the larger problems caused by a car-dominant society. In a new study, Professor Loader proposes a vastly different way of thinking about criminal punishment organized around five harm reduction principles. Plus, is it really wrong for news outlets to write headlines like "Pedestrian Hit By Car," or is there more to it than advocates are willing to admit? ***Join The War on Cars on Patreon and listen to exclusive ad-free versions of regular episodes, Patreon-only bonus content, Discord access, invitations to live events, merch discounts and free stickers!*** SHOW NOTES: Read Professor Ian Loader's study, "Beyond Motonormative Punishment: On Road Safety as Environmental Regulation." Hour 3 of the Marc Cox Morning Show is wall to wall and firing on all cylinders. Marc opens with Illinois Governor Pritzker's sweeping social media age verification law and exposes the left's glaring hypocrisy — ID for Instagram but not for voting. A federal judge blocks Trump administration subpoenas protecting Minnesota officials neck deep in a massive taxpayer fraud scandal, while Democratic Socialists surge to plus 17 favorability among Democrats and the left launches a fresh assault on the Electoral College. Fox and Friends First co-anchor Todd Piro calls in fresh off air to deliver the heartbreaking latest on the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping and Savannah Guthrie's emotional on-air reaction. Then it's 2A Tuesday with Mark Walters of Armed American Radio breaking down the Supreme Court's landmark nine to zero Hamani ruling, a Fifth Circuit victory for silencer owners, and why the left is already telegraphing their plan to destroy the Bruin precedent the moment they retake power. Kim St. Onge closes the hour with a chilling story of Brazilian parents jailed for homeschooling without DEI — and a stark warning that Christian families in America are already in the crosshairs. This is the Marc Cox Morning Show — and Hour 3 just delivered. "You're in despair. You just don't know you're in despair." — Peter RollinsOn this episode of Podsongs, John Kunkel of The New Division takes the guest-host chair to interview Northern Irish writer, philosopher and theologian Peter Rollins as inspiration for a brand new song. John opens up on his influences — Depeche Mode, New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen, Duran Duran — before the conversation turns to Rollins' work: questioning certainty, exposing the contradictions we live by, and finding freedom from the relentless "tyranny of happiness," with Los Angeles cast as a spiritual "Mecca" selling wholeness to anyone who can afford it. Along the way Rollins unpacks desire, sacrifice, work and alienation, ideology, AI and the unconscious, the films that shaped him, and the parables behind his "pyrotheology" — and the talk becomes the seed of "Idols," a song about the things we all end up worshipping, good and bad.New single "Idols" by The New Division — out 26 June. The state of New York doesn't lock people in cages to keep the public safe; they do it to violently enforce their monopoly on power. If you are an actual violent criminal, the judicial system will actively look for ways to put you back on the street. But if you are a peaceful software engineer who decides to exercise your inherent right to self-defense by building a piece of metal in your own home, they will raid your house and bury you. This week, we hand about of a different flow for the podcast as TFTP co-founder Jason Bassler sat down with Dexter Taylor to discuss his draconian 10-year prison sentence for the completely victimless act of being self-sufficient. Jason managed to secure a 45-minute call with Dexter directly from inside his upstate New York prison cell. Because Dexter is currently held captive by the state's prison-industrial complex, the audio carries the unmistakable, dystopian interruptions of a Securus jail phone line. It is a bit rough around the edges, but his message cuts through the static and is absolutely essential listening. During the conversation, Dexter systematically dismantles the corporate media's propaganda campaign against so-called "ghost guns" and exposes the establishment's terrifying pivot toward criminalizing the literal tools of creation. They discuss his active appellate battle against a state court system that has openly admitted it does not care about the Second Amendment. Dexter also details the profound mental discipline it takes to survive a political persecution without letting the system break your spirit. He offers a harsh reality check to anyone in the liberty movement who thinks they can simply outrun authoritarianism by fleeing to a different zip code. Tyranny is a maximalist endeavor, and Dexter's unyielding defiance is a blueprint for how peaceful people must stand their ground against an overreaching state. The political class wants his name forgotten and his life ruined to set an example, which is exactly why we refuse to stop talking about him. I interview Canadian political scientist Daniel A. Bell (University of Hong Kong) about his latest book Why Ancient Chinese Political Thought Matters and how Chinese political theory broadens a West-centric Anglophone canon. Bell explains major pre-unification traditions—Confucianism (graded love, harmony, ritual, soft power, political meritocracy), Legalism (state-strengthening through uniform, ruthless law and fear), Mohism (populist focus on material welfare and opposition to state-funded ritual/music), and Taoism (skepticism of social engineering and preference for limited state action)—and notes their modern revival after 20th-century anti-traditionalism and the Cultural Revolution. We discuss timeless debates on corruption, family law, culture funding, just war, and idealism vs. realism (including Xunzi vs. Legalists), Bell's argument in The China Model for legitimate variation beyond "one person, one vote," sources of legitimacy in China, Xi's role versus structural pressures, and the need for more people-to-people engagement to reduce demonization and improve US–China understanding.(02:43) West Centric Theory(04:29) Writing The Book(05:59) Schools Of Thought(06:49) Confucians Explained(08:35) Legalists And Power(10:07) Mohists And Populism(10:56) Taoism And Withdrawal(11:56) Ancient Debates Today(15:08) Idealism Versus Realism(18:49) Confucianism Endures(23:02) Traditions In The 1900s(29:29) Lessons For Western Leaders(30:18) Ritual Music And Order(31:40) Just War And Intervention(32:55) Harmony Not Conformity(33:56) Confucian Harmony Not Sameness(35:44) Just War and Tyranny(37:04) Questioning One Person One Vote(39:17) Why Meritocracy Fits China(43:03) Cultural Fit and Export Failures(46:42) Western Thinkers in China(48:03) Censorship and Reform Prospects(49:38) Xi Versus Structural Forces(52:54) Legitimacy Performance and Trust(56:03) Taiwan Prosperity and AI Optimism(58:30) More Participation Not Elections(59:46) Meritocracy Weak Spots and DialogueRead Daniel A. You do not need to know every step. You need to find the person who does. In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, Paul Alex breaks down the tyranny of “how” and why obsessing over every detail can keep smart entrepreneurs stuck. Let's be real… If every big idea stops because you personally do not know how to execute it… You are not thinking like a CEO. You are thinking like a technician. And that mindset will slow down every vision you have. In this episode, you'll learn: Why trying to learn every skill yourself becomes a trap How asking “how” can create unnecessary delays Why asking “who” is the faster path to execution How hiring experts helps you bypass the learning curve and scale faster The truth is simple: Your job is not to master every tool. Your job is not to do every task. Your job is not to pave every inch of the road yourself. Your job is to point to the destination. Find the right people. Empower the right operators. And keep the company moving forward. Most founders waste months trying to learn skills they could have hired for in days. High-level entrepreneurs solve problems differently. They do not ask, “How do I do this?” They ask, “Who already knows how?” That is leverage. That is leadership. That is how you move faster than the competition. Drop the “how.” Find the “who.” Build the team. And keep leveling up. Your Network is your NETWORTH! In this hard-hitting segment, the host sounds the alarm on what they describe as a totalitarian shift sweeping through Western nations like Australia and the UK. Pointing directly to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's latest device-level online safety proposals, the host breaks down how "saving the children" is being used as a deceptive Trojan horse to force data-tracking digital IDs onto everyday adults. The host aggressively calls out mainstream media outlets like Fox News for glossing over the real-world impact of these policies, which mirror authoritarian Chinese tracking systems. They also issue a major warning to American voters, detailing how similar legislation is gaining bipartisan traction in the U.S. Senate—and how local grassroots pushback is the only line of defense left to protect basic internet privacy! In this episode, Alex speaks with Matt Zwolinski about whether markets are coercive, and why the answer is more complicated than either “markets are voluntary” or “capitalism is coercion.” They discuss Robert Hale's classic argument, the limits of standard libertarian responses, and why a better liberal defence of markets has to take real-world coercion seriously without treating all coercion as morally equal. What does it take to make a street safer for everyone? In the US, it typically requires a combination of tragedy, grassroots organizing, and political leadership. Even when these ingredients come together, success is never guaranteed, as so many projects become battles about more than just bike lanes. Changing Lanes, a new documentary from director Ben Wolf, covers the fight to make McGuinness Boulevard in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, safer following the tragic death of a beloved teacher at the hands of a hit-and-run driver. Featuring interviews with such notable figures as Janette Sadik-Khan and former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, Changing Lanes moves beyond bike lanes to tell a story that's very much made for this political and cultural moment. Wolf joins us along with advocates Bronwyn Breitner and Kevin LaCherra, as well as New York State Assemblymember Emily Gallagher, to talk about how they fought to make McGuinness safe and the broader lessons they learned along the way. ***Join The War on Cars on Patreon and listen to ad-free versions of regular episodes, Patreon-only bonus content, invitations to live events, merch discounts and free stickers!*** SHOW NOTES: Stream Changing Lanes on Amazon or Kanopy. The tragic murder of Henry Nowak has become the ultimate case study in the collapse of Western institutional trust: the recognition of a two-tier system of justice that fails to protect the citizen, yet works with ruthless efficiency to manage the narrative of those who are non-Western being perpetual victims while the former are cast as villains.Joined by @DiscoOrpheus and Stelios Panagiotou, we break down the mechanics of the "Anarcho-Tyranny" currently governing the UK and its implications for the broader West. Likewise, what would revolting against such a system look like, and whether the reactions to Henry Nowak will make for any change.------Stelios Panagiotouhttps://x.com/Panagiotou90StDisco Orepheushttps://x.com/DiscoOrpheusLev Polyakov (Host & Editor / Animator)https://twitter.com/Levpohttps://levpo.substack.com/http://youtube.com/levpolyakov--Consider Supporting BTR by:Becoming a Parton: https://www.patreon.com/breaktherules
Tyranny reigns against we the people because our government has weaponized its power against us.
We are no doubt navigating an incredible age of disruption. Technology, algorithms, politics, and societal pressures have changed the way we both think and work. But how do we break free from a system that was created to manipulate independent thought? In his latest book, The Tyranny of False Choices: A Guide To Authentic Decision-Making, author Rey Ramsey provides a timely and practical guide for modern leaders to better manage through tumultuous times. Using methods to support critical thinking, moral compass navigation, and resilience, Rey provides a roadmap to reclaiming courage and personal agency required in leadership in these times.rnrnRey Ramsey is President and CEO of the Nathan Cummings Foundation and a social justice entrepreneur who brings more than three decades of C-suite experience in the non-profit, public, and private sectors. Previously, Rey has served as Oregon's Director of Housing and Community Services, President and COO of Enterprise Community Partners, and Chairman of Habitat for Humanity International-to name a few.rnrnJoin us at the City Club as Cleveland Foundation's Lillian Kuri sits down with Rey Ramsey for a candid conversation about leadership in these times, and what it takes to reclaim independent thought in a world designed to manipulate it.

Avoid the tyranny of orthodoxy, the F-words, goal setting and real life application.
Over the last 50 years or so, the divide between winners and losers in the United States has been deepening, says author and philosopher Michael Sandel. In the era of globalization, inequalities in income and wealth have widened and changed attitudes around success. “Those who landed on top have come to believe that their success was their own doing–a measure of merit. By implication, those who struggle and are left behind, must deserve their fate too,” says Sandel. He says this meritocratic thinking has poisoned our politics and eroded civil life. He tells playwright Anna Deavere Smith how to restore a vision of the common good. Sandel is a Harvard professor and author of The Tyranny of Merit. Smith, a Pulitzer Prize-nominated performer, reads an original work about the complexities of merit.
Coming from Vienna, Austria, Nancy shares a real-time glimpse into ministry travel, daily discipleship, and the ongoing work of allowing Christ to be formed within. Reflecting on The Tyranny of the Urgent, she explores the difference between outward activity and inward composure, revealing how Jesus lived a life that was full, purposeful, and demanding, yet never frantic. Nancy challenges listeners to cultivate a deeper inward stillness with the Father, refusing to be governed by urgency, pressure, or performance. This episode is an invitation to embrace the hidden practice of abiding, learning to remain responsive to the Father in the small things so that His life may be developed within for whatever lies ahead. Thanks for Listening! Nancy McCready Ministries is committed to building cultures of personal and corporate discipleship so that believers can walk in maturity and their destiny with the Father. Russian language has a rich vocabulary for describing life under tyranny. Like the plain-clothed ICE officers snatching people off the streets? In Russian, they would be called "siloviki." Former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem's requirement that she personally approve of contracts over $100,000? That's a phenomenon that Russians would call "manual control." Government workers being required to perform a military parade for the president's birthday? They would be called "budget people" in Russian. Brooke speaks with Maria Kuznetsova and Dan Storyev, the authors of the upcoming book How to Survive Authoritarianism: A Russian Phrasebook for Everyday Life in America, about how Russian words and phrases can help Americans understand what's happening in their country today. The book comes out in September. On the Media is supported by listeners like you. Support OTM by donating today (https://pledge.wnyc.org/support/otm). See the USA in your... Toyota? That's what US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy and his family have done with their reality-style online series, The Great American Road Trip. The way Secretary Duffy explains it, the show is a celebration of the country's 250th birthday. Duffy has told interviewers that "To love America is to see America," so he's packed up the family SUV and hit the road. This being the Trump administration, the trip isn't just an exercise in patriotism but a giant conflict of interest packaged as a reality TV show. That's hardly surprising given Duffy's history with reality TV—Sean Duffy met his wife Rachel Campos-Duffy while shooting MTV's Road Rules in the late 1990s—but it is concerning given that the series is sponsored by nearly a dozen companies that have business before USDOT. Reporter Henry Burke—a senior researcher at the Revolving Door Project—breaks down the many questionable and outright shady details behind Sean Duffy's trip across the country, from the opaque non-profit organizing it to the many transportation-related companies footing the bill. Michael Savage interviews retired Army Lt. Col. Robert Maginnis about China, Taiwan, Iran, and his book The New AI Cold War: Liberty vs. Tyranny in the Age of Machine Empires. McGinnis says the Trump–Xi summit produced pomp but few substantive outcomes, possibly favoring Xi. He argues AI was central given the executives traveling with Trump. They discuss Taiwan as strategically vital due to geography, allied credibility, and semiconductor dominance, and unpack Xi's "Thucydides trap" warning. Turning to Iran, Maginnis frames a "fork" between tolerating Tehran's nuclear progress or seizing and dismantling dispersed facilities, a difficult ground operation with uncertain intelligence. The conversation closes on AI's sweeping military and societal impact, China's open model strategy, and potential theological implications.
