The Star Wars Vintage Rebellion Podcast - SWTVR - Podcast Team
We're Celebrating this month, looking forward - or is it back? - to Celebration Japan, and the Oriental adventures of Jason and Spoons. Our special interview guest is Zia Rezvi, a Twickenham based collector, and an all round great guy. Rich delves deep into his collecting habits and his love for a galaxy far, far away. Otherwise, in a packed show, the lads sort out Disney's upcoming Star Wars programming, tell all about their growing collections, and debate this month's selections in the Action Playset Face-Off. Andy P has a Top quiz - but who will come up Trumps? And, the team highlights the best new acquisitions from around the collecting world. The Rebel Briefings section brings reports from Redditch, anticipation for Tokyo, and Chris's collectable coins. We look forward to an upcoming Palitoy publication, and note the passing of a Leamington toy shop legend. Licensee this month is short and sweet, as we take a brief look at British company Trebor, and their Chewy treats. All this mixed with the usual stuff and nonsense, look for the podcast in the usual places.
This month's show really is going down the toilet! That is to say, the downstairs loo of our special guest Matt Skywalker-Jones, which he's turned into a bijou display room. Matt tells all to Andy P, and talks about his collecting journey, and his many vintage passions. Elsewhere, the lads ponder Star Tourism, tell all about their latest finds, and battle it out in the Action Playset Face-Off, which sees a Death Star and an Ewok Village up against not one but two Cantina playsets. Jason hosts this month's quiz, and in New Acquisition shout-outs, we hear about 12-back display shippers, Japanese pencil cases, Peruvian board games, Helix and Letraset shenanigans on eBay, and an HCF pencil pot. A packed Rebel Briefings section sees chat about latest happenings in the collecting universe, as we catch up with a new blog on early Kenner displays, hear about the latest charitable offering from the Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society, recall Thomas Troy's Troop Transporter, take a look at a Palitoy book, a signed Survival Kit and a great Greek gun, before looking ahead to Echo Live and Celebration Japan. Licensee this month is Burger King, as the team sink their teeth into a whopper of a promotion across all three original trilogy movies. Plenty of bluff, bluster and banter besides, look for the podcast in all the usual places.
Ho, ho, ho! But that's enough from Jabba. It's that time of year again, when thoughts turn to families, feasting, and festivities. Yes, it's the Vintage Rebellion Christmas Special! Kicking things off in fine style we take a look back at vintage gifts received, the good, the bad, and the ugly. The team then consider casting their own nativity play - Star Wars style, of course. The New Acquisitions section sees Jason back on fine form with a list as long as Santa's, and the other lads also picking up some pre-Christmas goodies. There's a Carol service with the boys singing the praises of their favourite items this year, and a Christmas dinner with the tastiest treats of 2024 from around the collecting world. Spoons is joined by a very special guest for a geographical Quiz, and there's a heartfelt session of gift giving and receiving between the podcast crew, with everyone firmly in the Christmas spirit. In Rebel Briefings we hear Echoes and go Farthest From, get excited about Retro, put action figures where the sun don't shine, talk popular and dilapidated figures, mourn the passing of Greg Hildebrandt and Brian Turner, and get to the bones of Skeleton Crew. With plenty of festive fun and frolics to boot, we wish all our listeners all the very best for the festive season, however you may celebrate it. Look out for the podcast in all the usual places, and tell your friends!
This month sees the team musing over museums, existing and yet to come. With the exciting news that 4 of the worlds biggest Star Wars collections are to be brought together in one place for public viewing, we're delighted to welcome back Gus Lopez and Duncan Jenkins to the podcast, to tell us more in our main interview. There's a canter through new acquisitions, a face-off of Action Playsets, and it's Rich's turn to get quizzical. We look at shout-outs from around the collecting world, with some rare US pieces, a curious LP, movie magazines, a blow moulded Vader, and a Danish Darth. In Rebel Briefings we get up to date with the latest stories including finalising figures with Fawcett, Rockett Fett ramblings, Dealing (or not Dealing), noting the passing of James Earl Jones and Robert Watts, cardback capers from New Zealand, silver fish in the attic, and a missing Amanaman. Licensee this month is Leewards Creative Crafts, and the wonderful worlds of latch hook rugs and stained glass sun catchers. As usual there's plenty of frivolous banter along the way, look out for the podcast in all the usual places, and tell your friends!
We're delighted to welcome Steve Denny as this month's special guest interviewee with Rich. Steve is a legend in collecting circles, one of the old school, in the game right from the start, and he has some great tales to tell. Rich poses an interesting question in this month's intro - what period of collecting would you go back to, but you can't bring anything back - and strictly no cheating! Elsewhere the lads rattle through their latest finds, and puzzle over a cardbacks quiz. There's the last ever Action Vehicle Face-Off (no cheering at the back there) and some great new acquisitions, ranging from an old bed headboard to a chintzy Darth Vader costume from Canada. In Rebel Briefings there's another insight into figure production with Chris Fawcett, and a look at a record breaking Rocket Fett, whether the case is now closed on grey limbed Snowtroopers, a cloning controversy, Palitoy factory photos and comic capers with Star Wars Weekly. Licensee this month is Bunch Books and Paradise Press, as we take a look into poster magazines, Special Collectors Editions, and more. Of course there's plenty of the usual bollux and banter along the way, look out for the podcast in all the usual places.
Time for episode 113, with our hosts all set for their hols they kick off proceedings with tales of what Star Wars are essential suitcase additions. It's holidays all round as this month, Canadian guest Bill Kennedy is on a tour of the UK and Ireland, and popped into Spoons's house for a chat about Star Wars growing up in Canada, the origins of May the North be with you, and all things Die-cast - his dad bent his Y Wing! Listen in disbelief as Rich tells tale of a Latest Acquisition and the other chaps have some fab new pieces too - we can allow Pete a bit of modern with his sideshow Wol Cabbashite. Will Spoons make it a hat trick of Action Figure Face Offs or will Rich pick a new contender? Speaking of Rich, another tough quiz set by Chris Porteous should determine once and for all whether books do really exist in the industrial north. Stay tuned for some beautiful shoutouts spotted in the collecting sphere, and listen out for this month's exciting rebel briefings: Fett, Castaway Ben Kenobis, the SWCA at 30 and cons of all sorts should get your ears-a-twitching. We cap it off with a tip top end to the show - Tip Top Ice Cream that is. The perfect Star Wars licensee for any holiday.
In-between the UEFA Euros, the Cricket World cup, the horse racing, the snail world championships, Crufts, Cat of the Year show - the boys have managed to get together, talk Star Wars and get a show out. Vehicle face off asks the question 'will Richard continue to hand out the award to Spoons', probably yes. Rebel briefings sees a catch up with Chris Fawcett to hear about his Big Pick 3 (no, its not the Nostril Rummaging Championships). And we hi-five Hayjax to find out how many crusty second hand bedsheets Andy Preston owns in the licensee section. All the usual japes and tomfoolery.
The Vintage Rebellion hits a nelson of episodes, 111. Shake your legs in respect. This month's special guest is Blake Edgerton, who joins Rich to chat about collecting Down Under, and in particular, a wonderful story of an amazing vintage find, from a guy who inherited his father's collection. The intro segment sees the lads discuss the current state of Star Wars, and where they'd like to see the saga develop in the years to come. Moving swiftly on, there's a quick run through the latest purchases, a lively Action Vehicle Face-Off, and Andy P fires 20 questions at the others in this month's quiz. An international New Acquisitions section sees the team looking at American MOCs, German lobby cards, French 3POs, and diecast and vinyl from Japan. In Rebel Briefings, Rich tells all about touring Tatooine, we look back at Echo Live, and hear from Pete about an exciting new job opportunity. There's also news of a new auction venture for Nick Dykes, a shaggy dog story, and a letter from Palitoy. The lads wrap up with a look at a 70s toy shop, exercising Star Wars style, and black blobs on Jason's group. This month's licensee section sees the boys getting in a lather as they take a dive into Omni Cosmetics. Will they clean up, or wash out? Listen to find out! All this and the usual stuff and nonsense, look for the podcast in all the usual places.
The podcast starts in sombre mood this month as after a brief intro about accessories, we remember our friend Craig Spivey, and celebrate the many and varied things that he brought to the world of Star Wars collecting. We're talking Star Wars tourism this month, as the two Andy's look back on their recent holiday to Hoth, Rich looks forward to touring Tatooine, and our special interview guest Matt Booker talks about the many Star Wars locations that you can visit in Britain, and beyond. Matt also brings us up to date on childhood collecting, his Boba Fettish, his shop, and much more. In the intro section the lads talk about their own finds from the Star Wars galaxy, and some wonderful new acquisitions from Russia, Greece, Australia and the USA. Spoons gets quizzical, and Action Vehicle Face-Off comes up with a surprising victor. Rebel Briefings finds us eager for Echo Live, forcing Fawcett on first shots, early birds and seven packs, and more. Licensee this month is Touchline as we answer that burning question of how many coins can fit in a money bag - or is it a purse, module or container? You'll Smile when you find out. Plenty of bluff and banter besides, you can find the podcast in all the usual places:
After the team's discussion on the recent find of Peach Fett and his pre-production mates, our special interview guest this month is Neil Donnelly, who unearthed these fascinating pieces. Neil takes us through the story, answers the lads' questions from last month, and talks about his love for all things Star Wars. Otherwise, with the New Year upon us and the podcast entering its 10th year, the boys ponder on how they might start as new collectors in 2024. What would they focus on, and what to look out for? The Intro section is busy as ever with talk of new acquisitions, a truly vintage quiz from Pete, and fantastic finds ranging from a German action figure display, to hairdryer packaging. The Action Vehicle Face-Off sees two All Terrain vehicles take on a pair of mini rigs. Who comes out victorious? You'll have to listen to find out! In Rebel Briefings, the team looks at stories including a lost Leia, the return of an old friend, drama on the radio, and comic grading capers. Licensee this month comes from Brazil, as we take a deep dive into Glasslite, and try not to mention Vlix too much. All this and the usual stuff and nonsense - catch the podcast now, on your app of choice.
Merry Christmas to all our listeners, and the Star Wars collecting community. Celebrate the festive period with us whilst the lads share their memories of yesteryear and of course their ongoing passions spending hard earned groats on 40 year old cardboard and plastic. Christmas collecting Past, Present and Future is on the menu of this episode with dollops of regular festive treats. Can Jason show his passion for the Rebel Troop Transport or will the Andy's Tie up a win by fighting off Pete's Skiff minirig in the Vintage Vehicle Face off. Richard serves up a delicious three course Rebel Briefings, and theres a corking purchase for Gary Smith in his Palitoy hunt in newest acquisitions. Join us to see out 2023 with some positivity and good old fashioned merriment.
It's that time of year again - the big man's getting ready for the main event, his team of little helpers preparing lots of toys for girls and boys….. No, not Santa! We're talking about the one and only Mr Dave Tree, and the upcoming Farthest From vintage collecting event! Dave's our main interview guest this month, and we take a deep dive into his events, his love for Palitoy, his work with Fantha Tracks, unproduced toys, the 2007 Palitoy Archive exhibit, and so much more. The lads are anticipating that other 'seasonal event' this winter, rounding up the latest and greatest new acquisitions from around the Star Wars galaxy, getting quizzical with Rich, and introducing the great new feature, the Action Vehicles Face-Off! Kicking off a bumper Rebel Briefings section, Rich welcomes Ron Salvatore to discuss the Kenner Sweepstakes promotion. The team go on to chat about events, fakes, books, domes, mini MOCs, a sad passing, and more. Our licensee this month is Acamas, producers of fine (well, maybe not quite so fine) costumes and masks. Did Rich dress up as Princess Leia when he was 9? You'll have to listen to find out! An extra-long show filled with chat, banter and info on all things vintage, you'll find the podcast in all the usual places.
Nerds? Nerds you say, on the Vintage Rebellion Podcast? Surely some mistake! But yes listeners, this month we open our doors to the lovely David Jackson from Nerd Matters, as our main interview guest. Pete chats about buttons, badges, pins and patches from the galaxy far, far away. The lads are in maudlin mood as they discuss what might happen to their collections when they're gone, and then shed a tear for the very last Action Figure Face-Off - who will claim the final victory? Andy Norton takes us back to school with a GCSE inspired quiz, and we hear about some great acquisitions - and re-acquisitions. It's a busy Rebel Briefings as the team asks about Ahsoka, calls out a colourful Facebook group, considers conventions at Echo (past) and Farthest From (future), finds about about Faucourt's French figures folio, and covers TVR competitions. There's a brand new prize on offer, a fantastic light-up figure stand from Mark Sinclair aka Oldie Yoda - listen in for a chance to win. Licensee this month is Stuart Hall - no, not that one - as we take a canter through notebooks, exercise books, sketch books, portfolios and the like. All this and more, with lots of craic and banter along the way, look out for the podcast in all the usual places.
We are back after a bit of a break due to holidays and the such. Plus we had to wait for Jason to get through customs after he was detained trying to smuggle acres of Canadian cardboard in his luggage and down his britches. Our feature this month is The Nelvana Reunion panel featuring John Celestri, Larry Jacobs, and Brian Lemay and they talk about their experiences working on the Holiday Special, Droids, and Ewoks cartoons! The panel took place at ‘May the North be with You' in Toronto on August 5th - Thanks to Chris Porteous. Action figure face-off is nearing its conclusion as Andy Preston defends Dengar, Andy Norton loves Luke Jedi, Jason Smith wonders over Warok and Peter Davis delights over the Death Star Droid. Richard Hutchinson has an impossible job trying to choose the winner. Rebel Briefings is jam packed with wondrous tales of collecting, Richard interviews Tom Scaife & others regarding a Pre-production find in the USA, the mystery of Willrow Hood is finally revealed and so much more Star Wars collecting goodness is discussed. The licencee section finishes it all off looking at Fundimensions and their small but perfectly formed releases.
Star Wars Academy Award winner Roger Christian joins Chris Porteous and Andy 'Spoons' Norton to chat Star Wars set decoration, Alien and the life of Brian. The hosts try to put together a 'Top 5 of Toys we should maybe talk more about '. Do you agree with their choices and suggestions? Spoons shares a revelation recently discovered about an action figure that might make the list. In the four way Action Figure Face-off Andy Preston hops in an AT-AT to defend its Driver, Andy 'Spoons' Norton joins the Death Squad to see if its Commander is worthy, Jason goes with the Commander of the Rebels and Pete hops down to Jabba's Dungeon to get familiar with the most handsome of Action Figures - The Rancor Keeper. There's much more tomfoolery and hijinks japery in a huge Rebel Briefings section, and the licensee section has us focusing on Sigma - a favourite of everyone, but do we own much of it between us? There's also a chance to win one of Paleetoys Death Star Detention Block playsets, for a competition prize. These sets are available now from Paleetoys (Lee Gregory) on Facebook, they're made in the vintage style like the Cantina or Land of the Jawas, and they make a great display base for figures. To have a chance of winning this excellent prize, what we're asking you to do is to go outside and enjoy this lovely weather we're having - and take your camera and your action figures! We want to see action figures photographed in an interesting outdoor environment. It could be urban or rural, it doesn't matter, but what we're looking for is a bit of artistic flair and invention. You could go for humour, movie accuracy, a single figure or a whole battle scene. The winner will be the one photo that we as a team collectively enjoy the most. Send in your entries to us via Facebook Messenger, Instagram, or email, to reach us by Sunday 23rd July. The winner will be announced next month!
With Celebration Europe now a fading memory, the team remain hungry for more Star Wars travels, and this month's interview guest Davin Anderson joins Rich to discuss taking a tour to Tatooine - and the outskirts of Cairo in the 1930s, apparently. There's a bumper New Acquisitions section as the lads tell all about their Celebration scores and other pick-ups, and try to stop Jason discussing every single piece of swag he's collected. Action Figure Face-Off sees Pete try to defend Jason's focus figure - how did he do? Andy P takes the role of quizmaster, boldly going where no host has gone before, and the boys pick out some fantastic finds from across the collecting community to discuss. In Rebel Briefings, there's more con action, a look at grading and recent sales of modern retro figure prototypes, a report on Matt Fox's May The Toys Be With You exhibition in Torquay, and a look at Lee Gregory's Paleetoys playsets - now in production. The team also look at the upcoming Palitoy book from Bob Brechin, possible bogus Basa cardbacks, and a heartwarming tale of two old Polish ladies. This months licensee is a bit Random, as the lads run through the myriad of books and other oddments from US publisher Random House. All this and more, mixed with the customary fun and frivolity - you'll find the podcast in all the usual places.
Join us for a one-off special recorded in front of a live studio audience at Star Wars Celebration on the Holonet Stage! Lots of chat about vintage collecting, a 40th anniversary look back at Jedi, and the legend that is Duncan Jenkins joins us a special guest to discuss his favourite five odd ball items - number one is truly a one-off. Of course there is all the usual fun and banter, a one off action vehicle face off and an audience quiz. If that doesn't tempt you we come in at a less than 90 minutes - was this really TVR? Thanks to Mark Airey from Blue Harvest Toys for providing video of the event. Check out his channel for more celebration coverage! https://www.youtube.com/c/BlueHarvestVintageToys
With Star Wars Celebration around the corner, the Vintage Rebellion Podcast team are as frenzied as ever with their vintage Star Wars enthusiasm, listen to the epic reveals from a vast array of purchases from February's Echo Live event. The main feature this month also comes from Echo Live as we have the recording from the Palitoy talk from legends Geoff Maisey and Bob Brechin. Kathleen Kennedy tasks the lads with pitching for new Star Wars shows based off Vintage toys, will the ideas be as good as recent Disney shows. Let us know if you share the enthusiasm for our amazing ideas. The action figure face off continues: this month sees Spoons focus figure "Han Hoth" take on Andy Preston's "Nikto", Jason's "Prune face" and Peter's "Luke Hoth". Rebel Briefings has further hobby scandal, but we get to learn of a variation in the 12inch figure line. Peru's very own Basa is our Licensee this month as we get to learn about their fascination with yellow underpants. Finally we reveal the winner of our competition to win the custom vintage K-3PO (donated by Clint Garniss). You can also watch that on youtube thanks to Chris Porteous. https://youtu.be/l7a4VQvJl2Q And if that wasn't enough visual content this month, our Echo Live Gimcrack challenge is also available: https://youtu.be/9J0YroGEf4Y More you say? Andy Spoons Norton also kicks off our first monthly Youtube feature with a look at the Diecast Landspeeder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQvrZGETiZE There's also a lot more, so make sure you download from the usual places.
This month's episode is a little late as the festivities from episode 100 went on late into the night, then the next day, week, month etc. The lads finally picked themselves up and soldiered on bravely recounting their Christmas Star Wars 'gifts': the good, the bad, and the ugly. There's also a bumper edition of new acquisitions, covering two months worth of collecting tat. The intro section rounds off with a hard fought Action Figure Face-Off - will Rich let the Wookiee win? - and a knockout quiz from Spoons. The team discusses some fabulous finds from around the collecting community, and Rebel Briefings brings news of delectable displays, French fancies, Taiwan test samples, catching up on conventions, and Toy Shop tour talking. Our main interview guest is Jeremy Maxwell, who tells Rich all about his amazing collection of action figures, Droids and Ewoks runs, autographs, and other great items. The episode rounds off with this month's licensee Domark, and the team's memories of the early days of computer gaming, in which Jason goes a bit Manic. Look forward to all the usual stuff and nonsense throughout!
100 not out! The Vintage Rebellion podcast hits the century in style with a special show looking at the trends and changes in the collecting world since 2014, when we originally launched as the Star Wars Forum UK Podcast. Previous host and all round good guy Mark Daniels was available to join us offering a great contribution to the celebration with his vast knowledge and standing in the hobby. The lads reminisce about the birth of the podcast, and hot topics that we've discussed over the years. We have an interview with uber-collector and friend of the show Ron Salvatore, and Pete gives his own unique rundown on the TOP 100 most frequently sold action figures since the podcast started. As usual expect plenty of banter and fun as we round off 2022 with a bang. Normal service will be resumed for the January show, provided that Rich has survived pneumonia, and Pete and Jason manage their treks back from Bonny Scotland. The whole crew would like to wish all our listeners a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years! We'd like to thank all previous hosts, guest hosts and everyone who has contributed to the podcast, and of course not forgetting our wonderful listeners.
There's news from the North this month, as Chris Porteous visits a Canadian con "May the North be with you" and brings us interviews with Kenner luminaries Stephen Geddes and Jim Swearingen, telling their tales about creating and sculpting the toys that are the main reason we're all here. Elsewhere, the World Cup is on, and the lads are talking goals, scores, red cards and trophies - Star Wars stylee. New Acquisitions heralds collectibles from Palitoy to pencils, tee shirts to two-packs, and books to bowling balls, and shout outs to some great finds from around the collecting world. Richard's quiz mashes up the World Cup with worldwide collecting, and he has a tough choice to make in a lively Action Figure Face-Off. A lengthy Rebel Briefings section sees the team chat about current hot topics including a wonderful warehouse find, puzzling prices, Cassian's climax, fantastic four-packs, and a catch up on conventions. There's also the results of the lads' Echo Live Gimcrack challenge, Millennium Falcon mysteries, a Holiday Special retrospective, and a fantastic interview with Justin Hoggard of the Twitter channel Star Wars Fonts - much more interesting than you'd think. This month's licensee section proves that the guys are no mugs, as they delve into drinking vessels from Staffordshire Pottery / Kiln Craft. To hear all this, and the usual shenanigans, look out for the podcast in all the normal places.
This latest chock full episode comes soon on the heels of the Echo Base Live event in Redditch. We have a bunch of interviews, collecting tales and reminisces of another epic Star Wars event. The podcast team had a couple of tables, a load of merchandise to give away (including our VHS tape) and scrumptious amounts of collectibles to sell. Jason sadly comes with some horrendous and tragic personal news and he wanted to continue doing the things he loves so joins us this month. Jason is a beloved part of our podcast and the Star Wars collecting community, so we supported his decision to soldier on in dark times and hope with everyones support we can help him in whatever way we can. The action figure face off sees not the most inspiring of figure choices, but Andy Preston shows gluttonous affection for Klaatu, Andy 'Spoons' Norton waxes lyrical about the Jawa, Jason warms to Weequay and Pete gets excited for Han and his technicolor Trenchcoat. Who will Richard choose as the most passionate defender? Rebel Briefings sees our Echo Base round-up with even more acquisitions, a stumpy Chewie, a look at the slow burn of the Andor series and an unusual union of a Falcon and a star Destroyer. It has to be talked about to be believed. Licencee sees Peter get all excited for StarFire badges, as he's never seen technology like it before. Will Andy Preston's eyes light up without the need for batteries? Tune in on all the usual places for fun and frolics in the collecting world.
What day is it? Its Admiral Ackbar's birthday of course. Pete puts the case forward for when to celebrate our vintage Mon Calamari Admiral's official launch day, then use as an excuse for a party. Bring your fish fingers, crab sticks and Surströmming, if that way inclined. The main interview catches up with Chris Riehle to talk all things The Annual, collecting, focuses and ceramics.. In the Action figure face off, its as competitive as ever as; Preston bigs up Richard's favourite malfunctioning portable bin R5-D4, Spoons doffs his helmet off to Luke in Stormtrooper disguise whilst Jason defends Walrusman and his many death sentences, bringing up a sizeable rear its Pete with the Tie Fighter Pilot. Andy 'Spoons' Norton returns us to the supermarkets with a sweep of all things price related in this months epic quiz, its an eye opener for sure. And you can play along at home. Rebel briefings with Richard Hutchinson focuses in on: more grading high drama, is the No deal format on facebook becoming a little too tested these days, will the truth come out with regards to the Han Solo blaster auction and many more amazing stories. Licencee section sees Pete and Andy talk Craftmaster, reminiscing about the hosts craft achievements back in the day. Will Richard reveal himself as the craftiest member of the podcast team. And many many more hours of vintage stuff. Its another full box of Mr Kiplings fancies for all the family.
Well, it's summer, and the thwack of leather on willow is heard on village greens across England. Or it would be, if it wasn't raining. But, that doesn't dampen the spirits, as the lads select their first XI Star Wars action figures to put on their whites, step up to the crease, and try not to get caught leg before Wicket. Oh, and Rich does his best to explain the rules of cricket for those (like Jason) not in the know. After a brief catch-up on Obi-Wan on t'telly, the team looks ahead to the Andor series, which starts streaming in August. What do we know, and what do we expect? Listen in, and find out. Pete's quiz takes us into the Valley of Death as the lads feel the heat in more ways than one. A quick canter through the lads' latest purchases leads on to the Action Figure Face-Off, where Paploo, Squid Head and R2 Sensorscope do their best to overturn the firm favourite Luke Skywalker. Will our favourite farmboy find favour and come first? Some rare and wonderful new acquisitions are discussed, from across the Star Wars galaxy, before Rebel Briefings looks at putting the ‘con' into conventions, stolen images, troublesome tickets, larging it at London Film & Comic Con, and an exciting e-book launch. We're delighted to be joined this month by special guest Narayan S Naik who tells Rich about his amazing collection, focus collecting Boba Fett, Luke Jedi and Yoda, the Georgia Alliance collecting club, conventions, and much more, in a wide ranging and fascinating discussion. The boys wrap up in party mood, with an in-depth look at this month's licensee Deeko, a British company which made Star Wars paper cups, plates and table ware, and reminisce about birthdays in the 70s and 80s. All this and the usual bluff, bluster and banter! Look for the podcast in all the regular places.
It's time to Celebrate! But before the lads look back to Anaheim and forward to London, there's a round-up of Obi-Wan Kenobi on t'telly - is it any good? What did we like? What wasn't so great? And with that, it's time for a deep dive into Star Wars Celebrations. Jason and Chris tell all about highlights and hi-jinks in Anaheim, we look back at the announcements, the panels, the guests, and the Collecting Track, as well as interviews with other intrepid Brits who made the long trek to California. Rounding up the regular features, the boys delve into their recent purchases, delight in the Action Figure Face-Off, debate Richard's dodgy quiz questions, and discover some exciting new acquisitions from the wonderful World Wide Web. Rebel Briefings sees the lads discuss how Star Wars is helping one little boy recover from the horrors of conflict, look at the upcoming Retro Collection figures from the Obi-Wan series, and uncover more treasures in the latest PropStore extravaganza. No interview this month, as the lads look forward to Celebrating once again in London next year with the worldwide Star Wars community. What's there to look forward to? We'll give you a full rundown. The show wraps up with a licensee section on Marks & Spencer. Didn't they only produce one vintage item? Surely Pete and Preston can't talk for more than 5 minutes on this one ... can they? Catch up with all your favourite TVR fun and frivolity in all the usual podcast places. https://youtu.be/VXw73uCixZM
The lads kick off by digging up some old fossils, as a tale of archaeological artefacts leads to a discussion on treasures lost and found. A debate on Revenge items making it to store shelves is followed by latest acquisitions, with an update on last month's Kneesaa challenge. Has Rich succumbed to all things furry? You'll have to listen and find out! Action Figure Face-off sees a General, a Dignitary, a Princess and a Bounty Hunter fight it out, with Jason surprising himself – and us – with his contribution. The lads discuss recent finds from around the Star Wars galaxy, and Pete's quiz brings all to their knees(aa). In Rebel Briefings there's talk of exhibitions, auctions, and conventions past and present. Rich interviews this month's special guest, US collector David Quinn, talking podcasts, prototypes and production, Celebrations, and the Empire State Collectors Club. The show wraps up in fruity fashion with the boys taking a deep dive into yoghurt, as they explore Dairy Time's Jedi range, and ponder the sad lack of gooseberries today. All this and the usual fun and frivolities – look for the podcast in all the usual places.
A five hour feast of vintage Star Wars collecting chowder. Join the lads in their quest to collect and talk about more stuff than their man caves can physically contain. Will the repair to the rift in Jason's collecting room hold out? Tune in. Joining the usual hosts this month is chief wizard of all things social media and sound editing, Chris Porteous. We recorded on a Sunday so we nabbed him and made him talk. Our main interview is with Bill Kimberlin who is known for his amazing VFX work on Return of the Jedi and possibly the best ever film outside of Star Wars: Star Trek III - The Search for Spock. Reviews of Echo Base Live enhance the lads pick ups this month, but does Richard finally add something to his collection? A scandal in the community has the jaws wagging and heated discussion breaks out when a sacred law of collecting is broken. The licensee this episode is Adam Joseph Industries, resulting in the hosts setting themselves a collecting challenge. Dial in and find out exactly what it is, and will Richard be joining in? Plus all the usual fun, frolics and vintage juiciness.
Episode 92 - Brian's Star Wars Toys - The Vintage Rebellion Podcast Top o' the mornin' to ye! That jolly little leprechaun Richard introduces a show recorded on St Patrick's Day, with special guest Brian Hickey hailing from the Emerald Isle. The lads come up with their best blarney as they take a look at the Irish Star Wars connection. There's TV talk, as we look back at the finale of The Book of Boba Fett, where Jason's predictions came scarily true, and then forward to Obi-Wan, with a dive into the latest news and of course that trailer. The lads run down a bumper list of latest acquisitions and give shout outs to some wonderful finds from around the collecting world, followed by a lively Action Figure Face-Off, and a quiz led by Pete, but with a strong Canadian flavour. Rebel Briefings sees the boys hear an amazing Kiwi tale from Mark Catley, look ahead to a collection of conventions, go scouting for toys, discover a body in the River Thames, and ponder the sale of a grail. Our main interview guest Brian Hickey is a photographer with an amazing eye for action shots of action figures, and a talent for recreating movie scenes in miniature. We talk about childhood, collecting, projects, and future plans. The show rounds off not with a bang, but a bag, as the lads look at Frankel & Roth school bags and pencil cases. From Jason's con bag to Spoons' satchel, it's a quick belt through bags and backpacks of all kinds. All this and the usual stuff and nonsense, look out for the podcast in all the usual places. Our technical Jedi, Mr Chris Porteous has also put this altogether on the moving pictures website: https://youtu.be/plhQz6Wis2c
The Vintage Rebellion Returns. Or is it the Return of the Vintage Rebellion, or maybe even the Revenge of... okay, okay you get the point. We blame Richard and possibly Jason for the lack of January release. Its a long story, but considering our length in show you don't need to hear it. Its Episode 91! Our very specialist of guests this month is Star Wars Podcasting Royalty, Sir Jimmy Mac from Rebel Force Radio. Pete has a good old fashioned chat about collecting, podcasting and anything else Star Wars related. With Christmas but a fading memory, the lads rekindle some of the festive spirit with a recap of the best (and worst) Star Wars gifts they've received, and look forward hopefully to their dream purchases in 2022. The New Acquisitions section leads on quickly into a discussion on the Book of Boba Fett - did we think it's a hit or a miss? Action Figure Face-Off features 3 flyboys and a Princess. Who will come out on top? Listen to find out. After a cracking quiz from Andy Spoons, the team goes on to discuss this month's round up of fantastic finds from around the community. In Rebel Briefings the lads look at an unusual moment in Empire, a sad tale of a loss in the post, and a recap of the Special Editions which are now 25 years old. And to close out the show, the licensee section features Star Wars jewellery by Weingeroff, and sold by Factors, one of the earliest licensed products. All this and the usual nonsense and senility, look out for the podcast in all the usual places.
It's Chriiiiistmaaassssss! And the team is in festive mood for a bumper seasonal edition, complete with a special guest host. Who is it? You'll be running to find out….. A discussion on Christmas gifts past and present leads on to new acquisitions, and for once all of the lads have something to share, as well as shout-outs to some amazing finds from around t'internet. Action Figure Face-Off has a twist this month, with a snow-filled seasonal flavour, straight from Hoth. In Rebel Briefings we hear about the return of a long-awaited Christmas collecting event, with interviews and frivolity, as well as a round-up of upcoming book releases and some amazing custom playsets. Special Guest this month is Mighty Mike Haines, discussing his recent find of prototype Micro Collection goodies, and his memories of growing up and collecting in that galaxy far, far away. And in keeping with the seasonal theme, Pete leads the lads in a light hearted run through the 12 days of Christmas, Star Wars action figure stylee, some links obvious, others a tad more tenuous! All the usual bluster and banter, download the podcast in the usual places. The whole TVR team wish all our listeners a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, thank you for listening and supporting the podcast through 2021, and we'll look forward to seeing you in ‘22.
The boys open with a brief retrospective on the trailer of The Book of Boba Fett. With a plethora of vintage morsels, was it enough to entice or repel? The Action Figure face-off features two of our favourite furry friends. No, not Jason Smith and Andy Preston, but Logray and Romba. But can the more passionate defences for the AT-AT Commander and Yoda send those fuzzballs packing. Who wins? Only Richard can decide. Following a Squid game inspired quiz from Jason Smith, Rebel Briefings with Richard Hutchinson is jam packed with stories. Ranging from the latest baggie drama, prices, Star Wars online content, through to a tribute to recently deceased Gerald Home. But kicking the section off, Andrew 'Spoons' Norton catches up with Darren Chucas to talk the Biking Scout. Did Spoons really see a member of the Empire's woodland forces cycling along the Mumbles Road? Darren explains all, and how he is cycling ten circuits of the Death Star in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thebikingscout Replacing an interview this month, the team decided to sit down, choose a smoothly warming beverage and talk about the State of the Hobby:- Where we are, where we want to be and where we might end up. A much warranted visit to Jared Cope's Star Wars tracker gives us a look at the value of putting together a loose collection in 2021 and a look back at price fluctuations from 2013 to present day. Its a belter. Time is very much the essence in the Licensee section where Bradley Time watches, clocks and the odd ruler get the once over from the team. Its a blistering bumper chunkster of Vintage Star Wars Collecting. https://youtu.be/p3W_m_Vdu_A
The hosts are pondering a question of ethics - how should pursuing our hobby influence our public behaviour? Moving swiftly on, there are a plethora of new acquisitions from the team this month, and some great shout-outs from around the world wide web, including an excellent new collection room, and an unexpected Canadian discovery. Action Figure Face-Off features two Droids, a Gunner, and a smooth talking Smuggler. Who will emerge victorious? The lads discuss all the latest goings-on in the collecting world including a retrospective of the recent collecting event Echo Base Live, and interviews with the traders, punters, organisers and special guests. Jason and Spoons have paid a visit to Milton Keynes for the grand opening of Jason Joiner's National Film and Sci-Fi Museum, and Rich catches up with Ron Salvatore to delve into Micro Collection minutiae. The licensee section sees the boys revealing their childhood reading habits and favourite literature, and moving on to look at British publisher Sphere, who released the paperback novels and tie-ins for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. The books themselves, and the associated store displays and related materials, are all featured. The feature interview this month is with Star Wars artist, collector, and costumer Marsha Parkins, talking about her influences, her artwork for Topps and other publishers, attending events, and her love for that galaxy far, far away. All this and the regular banter and bluster, look out for the podcast in the normal places.
The lads are in a nostalgic mood this month with a look back at Celebration Europe 3, which was 5 years ago this month. Panels, exhibits, costumes, celebs, swag and socials are all reminisced. Some great new acquisitions are discussed, from the team and elsewhere, and there's a feisty Action Figure Face-Off - can anyone beat The Fett? In Rebel Briefings the team discusses the sale of the podcast's spiritual home the Star Wars Forum U.K., celebrates the launch of the Variant Villain website, notes the sad deterioration in the health of Star Wars author JW Rinzler, and looks forward to the first big U.K. collecting event post-Covid, Echo Live. For the Licensee section the boys take a trip to the land down under, and look at the Toltoys releases in Australia and New Zealand, making some surprising discoveries along the way. This month's main interview guest is our very own Richard Hutchinson who unbelievably up til now has never had a feature interview. The lads discuss flat caps, whippets, R5-D4, Celebrations, the Expanded Universe and how not to get beaten up in the frozen North. All this with the regular banter and bluster, look out for the podcast in the normal places.
Rich has spotted a photo on Facebook, taken in a Far East factory, where a team of workers are busy assembling Star Wars figures. The lads discuss what insights this might have for our hobby, and whether it might affect our thinking about Star Wars toys. There's a boisterous Action Figure Face-Off, and the team discuss some brilliant acquisitions from the past month, around the world of vintage collecting, including a great tale of a prototype action figure case which sat un-noticed in a collection for years. Andy Spoons comes up trumps with a great quiz that has the guys really exercising the old brain cells. In a busy Rebel Briefings section, the lads catch up on recent events in the collecting world including new Droids figures in Hasbro's Vintage Collection, new PBP and Meccano books, a wealth of great Star Wars TV shows to watch and await, and looking forward to Dave Tree's Farthest From collecting event in December. Pete and Andy are joined by collector, fan, and Bespin Prime owner Robin Bocra to chat about her experiences growing up in the galaxy far, far away, collecting down the years, Facebook fun, and her amazing collection of toys, oddball items and props. There's another far flung licensee section this month, all the way from Argentina, as the lads discuss Top Toys range of Jedi action figures, and the loose, carded and prototype collectibles that are out there to be found. All this along with all the usual shenanigans, look out for the podcast in the normal places. And of course, on Youtube, with pictures and vids... (thanks to the mercurial Chris Porteous) https://youtu.be/EIYvHn9Hjzc

With the 2020 European Championship in full swing the lads have gone football crazy this month (that's soccer, if you're in the States), discussing which Star Wars action figures would make it into the TVR fantasy football squad. The New Acquisitions section brings a plethora of goodies from Messrs Norton, Preston and Smith, with Rich and Pete sadly bereft. In Action Figure Face-Off the battle is between a General, a Commander, a Pilot and a Pirate - with perhaps a surprising outcome. After a quiz in which quizmaster Richard makes up the answers on the fly - but is always right - the lads give shout outs to a great assortment of items including a childhood collection rediscovered after 35 years. The chat moves on to Rebel Briefings, to discuss Bespin Prime showcases, dodgy bootlegs, Rebelscum changing hands, another Prop Store bonanza and speculation over re-naming Slave One. With no interview this month, the licensee section definitely has the X-Factor, as the team delves into the buttons, badges, patches, t-shirts and a myriad of other product issued by early licensee Factors. All this with the usual mix of fun and frivolity as well, look for the podcast in the normal places.
A fully vaccinated panel discuss what constitutes Vintage these days: Jason "Mr Palitoy" Smith is certainly known as a fossil, Andy Preston - ancient, Andy "Spoons" Norton - a relic, Peter Davis - a golden oldie and Richard - northern. TV's celebrity chef Dean Edwards joins Jason and Andy to talk collecting, conventions, miscards, Toy Toni's, mealtimes Star Wars style, and more. In Action Figure Face-Off this month its Nien Nunb vs Stormtrooper vs Teebo vs Chief Chirpa. Its the fiercest battle yet and Peter has to like an Ewok! Richard's Rebel Briefings sees fake BASA stickers, USA convention dates announced, visitations and so much more. The licensee section looks at ADDIS and Peter uncovers some rather riotous history. And there's plenty of other stuff, especially the acquisiton of a rare flannel. This episode can be found on YouTube https://youtu.be/7ANQWfhtR_U thanks to Chris Porteous
An almighty 4 hours of Vintage Star Wars for Episode 83 and although a little later than normal we thought what better way to release on May 4th*. Our feature interview is with Dan Burgess, who can be found on Generation Skywalker TALKING MODERN MOSTLY! (the traitor), but is also a barmy vintage collector and has adorned the Vintage Rebellion on many occasions in the past. The Vintage Rebellion Swap Shop takes off with the Marvel ROTJ number 1 with badges getting traded up for - a Canadian ROTJ Nikto MOC... who has something to trade for that? Spoons tries to one up everyone with his quiz based on Top Trumps. The Vintage Rebellion's Jason Smith aka Mr Palitoy has been working with Wayne Totty and Mark Thornicroft on an Echo printed Palitoy Cardback Guide based on his Palitoy cardback website. Andy Preston has also supplied a lot of the pictures for it and we get to find out where to get it (pre-order now live). https://www.facebook.com/groups/679883255411947/permalink/4171126062954298/ Pete talked with Steve Taylor at the Toy Planet who recently had an enormous graded and non graded vintage collection in at the store and hear about how the market of retro/vintage goods is growing. https://thetoyplanet.co.uk The licensee section is about Ben Cooper masks and costumes. Worth catching up with the youtube version of the show, lovingly put together by Chris Porteous, which showcases some cracking memories of fancy dress / dressing up / cosplay by some of the lads (Richard would get beaten up for it). In Richard's Rebel Briefing the lads also pay tribute to John Kellerman who became one with the force recently. The visual edition is here: https://youtu.be/ZFdPXELSP2Y * technically we were late and we used the May 4th to cash in on our guilt
Andy and Chris talk to Eric Walker, author, musician, broadcaster and star of the Ewok movies, Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor. He shares tales of life on the set, working with Warwick Davis and George Lucas, and how he’s still connected to the galaxy far, far away. Yes.. you read that correctly. Its Chris Porteous. He's finally been let out! This month its Bib Fortuna v AT-ST Driver v R2-D2 Solid Dome v Snaggletooth. Revelations about our red jump-suited cantina denizen has the boys in a quandary. Can Andy Spoons Norton win again this month, and what is Jason doing with that poor R2 unit!? Richard's Riotous Rebel Briefings has the group musing over some new Star Wars Disney+ vintage releases, the return of Echo Live, some moody lighting, Jason pays tribute to a fellow collector and who would we like to see a Cameo from? Licensee has us remembering Topps and all their trading cards, Pete is astounded that the lads are not quite as frenzied over bubble gum as he was back in the day! Aside from interviewing this month, Chris Porteous has again delivered a Youtube visual feast for us: https://youtu.be/g9BvB2tEKQY
A little bit later than scheduled this month. We are blaming February, it ended early. But finally Episode 81 is here. Our main interview is with Palitoy legend Bob Brechin, not only the Chief of Design during the Star Wars era but also fundamental in creating much of the toys we loved as kids. Join Andy Spoons as he dives deep into those golden years. Pete and Jason occasionally ask the odd question. Our new feature this month has the lads putting forward their reasons for the Best Action Figure. Up for consideration this time are C3PO, EV9D9, Admiral Ackbar and 8D8. Richard must decide from the most passionate pleas for a winner. The Vintage Rebellion Swap Shop moves forward. Jason kicked it all off by offering up a Vintage Bib Fortuna Pen Topper. The Swap came in and we now have a UK Marvel Return of the Jedi issue 1 WITH BADGE. Would you like this item? Then send us your offers. Rebel Briefings with Richard sees some eBay scandal, Brexit postage issues (yes.. how original), Muppets (no, not the hosts) and other fun stuff. Licensee focuses on Waddingtons, which believe it or not is another Passion of the Preston. Sadly due to a house move the youtube version will be a little different during March, but we still thank Chris Porteous for putting this beast together in audio format. Kick the pet Gnu from in front of the wireless and sit back for some Star Wars Vintage Collecting shenanigans.
Happy New Year everyone, we hope all listeners (and stalkers) are well and still collecting vintage Star Wars items during these Apocalyptic times. All the hosts are still alive however Jason has collected so much stuff that a hole in his collecting room wall has opened up as the 1980s has created a time vortex and is starting to reclaim certain parts of his collection. Our guest this month is Dutch collector Marc Kuin. Marc discussed the early days of collecting Star Wars in the Netherlands and his struggles trying to locate any items in the wild. We also cover his love of Stormtroopers and unexpected path to die-cast vehicles and hunting. We launch Vintage Rebellion Swap Shop. Vintage Rebellion Swap Shop is a new monthly feature where during 2021 (from January to December) we will attempt to raise a lot of money for CLIC Sargent. Using the notion of the Swap. Jason has kindly offered a Bib Fortuna Vintage Pen Topper to kick us off. All we ask is you offer us something a tiny bit better (vintage Star Wars preferably, but if you want to offer a brand new car, then thats cool too). Then, in December we will sell off our final swapped item and give all funds to CLIC Sargent. Contact us via facebook or social media with your offer. If we get a load of offers, we'll discuss next month and decide. Could be fun and raise money for a great cause. How far can we go? Richards Rebel Briefings are actually fairly brief but packed in very nicely. There are a couple of cracking Palitoy bulk finds, a Uzay mystery, a book funding success and something a little cheesy so expect Andy Preston to jump on that. Licensee section is about our love for all things Japanese with a look at Takara, we find that Mr Andy Spoons is more than just a fan of Godzilla, but an avid collector of the range. We reminisce about Japanese cartoons on kids TV back in the day. And theres other stuff such as our collecting targets for the year. Don't forget to check out the youtube version, put together by our Video Wizard Chris Porteous https://youtu.be/bTSTxOZJTTA
During recording of episode 79 we heard the news that Jeremy Bulloch had passed, adding to the recent passing of David Prowse. Andy Preston pays tribute to two legends of the Star Wars Universe. Check this out on YouTube: https://youtu.be/rcgLOyHaoxA Our main interview this month is with Craig Miller. Director of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm 1977 - 1980. He created and oversaw the Official Star Wars Fan Club as well as having edited and written virtually all of the first two years of Bantha Tracks. He has a number of terrific stories, and maybe the longest Rapid Fire in history. He was a charming guest and we made him late for his lunch. And on the YouTube version you can watch him on video - Its technology at its finest here at The Vintage Rebellion HQ! Rebel Briefings are anything but brief as Richard catches up and rugby tackles to the ground Mark Baker and Mark Andrews to talk COOs as if they are a bunch of pigeons re-enacting Pigeon Street. Also we discuss the Toy Museum starting up in Milton Keynes. Licensee section is an epic two parter. We look at stuff released in Christmas Past, then in Christmas Present we travel back to the 70s/80s to each choose stuff from several years of the Sears Catalogue and re-evaluate what we chose in Christmas Future eyes. Spoons tackles a skid problem with his PJs.. hmm. And lastly,... amongst the epic tales of what Jason and Preston bought this month we review our collecting stories of 2020, Preston has a massive reveal and we try to add a bit of Tinsel to proceedings. There's also a couple of bonus items on youtube with our three favourite purchases of the year in video form. https://youtu.be/zjShgXA8s2E 00:00:00 - Intro00:03:49 - Host Newest Acquisitions00:18:18 - 2020 Review & “Break the Bank” Purchases01:03:07 - The Quiz01:22:41 - NA Shoutouts01:30:59 - Rebel Briefings01:32:03 - Variant Hunters: Mark Andrews & Mark Baker0:2:22:20 - Remembering David Prowse & Jeremy Bulloch02:27:28 - National Film & Sci-Fi Museum02:31:50 - A Book about Kenner02:34:31 - The Craig Miller Interview04:24:33 - Vintage Star Wars Christmas Items04:51:44 - The Sears Christmas Catalogue Challenge05:18:41 - Outro & Feedback
Ever thought of making your own playset for vintage Star Wars action figures because 'those that should' back in the day didn't cater for all of our vintage cardboard enthusiasm? Thats exactly what young Lee Gregory thought and decided to do something about it. Hear his unique Manchester-based experience as he rights those wrongs. The lads debate further "Vintage 2.0":- most people have collected everything figure wise, it appears we are turning slightly to the continuation of the line and wanting new-old-new stuff In Rebel Briefings Richard recalls a story where vintage is found behind a hole in a wall, we look at the prices realised at Astons final auction and another Propstore auction unearths a few oddities. The Licensee section this month talks AIRFIX, that loveable brand of kits we all remember accidentally glueing to grandma when we were kids, Andy Preston and Mr. Spoons share some great memories. So, sit back.. put on the kettle whilst Jason recalls his list of purchases and tune into another belter of an episode.
Still very much alive, our intrepid band of collectors remove their masks, give their microphones and surrounding areas a bally good rub down with disinfectant and soldier on like any stern British podcaster would expect to do in a crisis. Hoorah for the Queen. We remember those days of bobbing for apples in others saliva as we try to regurgitate Halloweens of the past. Richard talks of the final Astons Auctions in Dudley with some incredible bulk lots, we hear about several new books in the community, an amazing poster Auction and Jason becomes very Scottish. The Licensee section is another of Andy Preston's passions: HC Ford and Sons, stationary for the discerning school child of the 80s.
All 5 hosts make dramatic returns for yet another episode of the longest Star Wars Vintage Collecting podcast in the modern era. Chris Porteous again tries to make us look visually appealing with the Youtube visual version. https://youtu.be/Wusol8iacF4 Scott Bradley is our guest and main interviewee, he joins Richard to talk about the complicated relationship between Kenner, Irwin, Parker and Regal as he discusses the Canadian distribution system. The lads discuss the shadiest behaviour in recent times and in a story that makes war and peace seem like a Christmas cracker joke in Rebel Briefings. And the licensee topic has a Swedish flavour as we lick the crumbs from the smorgasbord to talk posters etc with Scandecour. [if you can count all the ABBA references, you may be able to win a prize] All packed into a tight 3hr55min of vintage fiskbullar. 0:00:00 - Intro 0:01:26 - Remembering Ron Cobb & Alan Tomkins 0:08:22 - Host's Newest Acquisitions 0:28:06 - The Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer - Vintage Influences & Bob Fett 0:39:46 - The Quiz 0:53:42 - NA Shoutouts 1:06:52 - Rebel Briefings 1:07:35 - Power Droid at it Again! 2:00:08 - A New Proof - One Last Time! 2:02:00 - Aston's Auctioneers - Going out with a Bang! 2:06:09 - Space Toys Advert 2:07:14 - Scott Bradley Interview 3:10:11 - Licence to Thrill - Scandecor & Scanlite 3:45:09 - Rapid Fire with Scott Bradley 3:49:41 - Feedback & Outro
Three quarters of the way to a hundred episodes. And to celebrate this we have managed to get Mr JW Rinzler on the cast in order to plug his new book, All Up, talking about rockets, Lucasfilm and discover a certain character in a Disney film was named after him. Buy this book now! The hosts again are a five, and we've decided to keep hold of the two Andys and cardboard king Mr Jason Smith. Richard leads them through a host of stories ranging from destroying your childhood right through to that warm feeling you get when you complete a run. In the Licencee section Pete again talks Marvel comics, but this time its from across the pond with the American releases. So, sit back, pour a large glass of Vimto, open a packet of Bourbon Creams and prepare your ears for 3 and a half hours of luxury warbling. What's better than 4 podcast hosts? No, silly... it's not free cheesy Wotsits for life, its of course having 5 hosts for this month. And because of that we've gone over 4 hours of scrumptious warbling for your earlugs. Who said you weren't lucky to have us. The podcast celebrates 100k downloads thanks to an email from Podbean which is about a year out of date as we are currently over 115k downloads. We pay tribute to James Martin as he sadly passed away in July after many years of fighting off cancer. A knowledgeable collector who we can proudly say was a good friend. R.I.P James. Phil Bangert is our interviewee this month, and Richard catches up with him for a chat about his Star Wars collecting and a little chat about his love of all things football, despite being an American. Maybe Richard 'Arsenal' Hutchinson can learn a thing or two.Jason's list of newest acquisitions is longer this month, so we've cut that down to just the first 1000 items. Andy Preston and Andy Spoons share their love of Marvel Weekly UK with Peter in the licensee section and you don't want to miss some of the clowning in the correspondence pages. Rebel briefings has Richard getting righteously indignant about the latest repro drama, wondering how many small towns in Newcastle he can buy with the proceeds of a Rocket Firing Fett purchase and looks forward to more words in books from J.W.Rinzler. Check out the youtube version by the maestro Chris Porteous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8SnXFuuajA&feature=youtu.be
In amongst fighting off mice and general wildlife - trying to eat the collectibles stored in his garage - young Star Wars fan Stuart Skinner, from nearby France, takes part in this months interview. Talking SIGMA, being mistaken for Romba the Ewok and all those days of being on this here podcast for decades. Jason Smith has a new microphone, but can he stay awake long enough in his office/sauna to finish his list of acquisitions whilst Andy Preston returns as we discuss Empire Strikes Back having a birthday. Sadly we are all old enough to remember it coming out in 1980, although Cinema had yet to reach Richard in the frozen north. During Rebel Briefings an argument breaks out over some oddities featured in a Palitoy display at a recent Auction. Richard pays tribute to Charles Lippencott. Licensee Butterly Originals gently stirs the memories of our hosts as we remember the days of school hijinks with stationery items being used for violence. Hot off the heels from Episode 71, comes Episode 72! Amazing isn't it. Check out the 4D version from our Vintage Space Wizard Chris Porteous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxG3EmJhRF8Andy Norton decides to have a go at a quiz this month to test the chops of recent 'Farthest From - Online' champions Richard Hutchinson and Andy Preston. It's an attempt at ITV's The Chase. With Mr. Preston being the Chaser. Can Jason, Peter & Richard beat him down? The main interview is with Irish writer Michael Carroll, who runs the online blog 'Rusty Staples', which we touched upon in our Panini Licensee section a few months back. Rusty Staples covers every single mention and influence of Star Wars in British Comic 2000AD.
