Cover your webcams and watch out for tasers because we're talking Jon Abrams' Exploited (2022). C/W: sexual assault. This indie film features male nudity in two minutes, boys in singlets and Leah FUCKING Pipes running around in lingerie. It's also got about 12 storylines, uneven acting and far too many twists in the surprisingly dark last act. Basically: she's a messy bitch that tries to tackle too much, but Exploited is so explicitly queer, pro-sex and unabashedly wild that we had to cover it. It won't be for everyone, but if you're willing to take the ride, we hope you enjoy the batshit insanity.Questions? Comments? Snark? This week editor-in-chief of Daily Grindhouse, Jon Abrams joins us to talk about a movie we feel deserves more love during the October spooky season, the 2018 slasher Hell Fest. Also joining us this week is the writer of this film as well as the scribe of Leatherface & Hulu's YA show Light As A Feather, Seth M Sherman.
Do you love Keanu Reeves? How about humility? If you answered yes to either, then you’ll love this week’s episode! When special guest Jon Abrams challenges hosts Vanessa and Elijah to find a horror film to pair with underrated martial arts gem Man of Tai Chi, they must first admit to having overlooked Keanu Reeves for far too long. After an appropriate amount of time spent admitting their past failures, they make their case for Cheap Thrills as the perfect companion. Both films feature desperate men going down a dark path for the promise of easy money, but is that enough to convince Jon that it’s a perfect double-feature? Join the gang as they discuss why Keanu can sell absurdity so well, the dangers of not meditating enough, and ultimately, the thesis of this very podcast. The official movie snack pick of Man of Tai Chi and Cheap Thrills is a ghost pepper you eat in a food challenge and a glass of water. (Optional: Chicken wings with edible gold leaf). This episode was brought to you by the horrors of late-stage capitalism. Ahoy, Checkers! With all the hype about a potential new planet discovery named “Planet 9”, we thought it would be good to get a reality check from our favourite resident astronomer Dr. Stuart Robbins, host of one of our fave podcasts, Exposing PseudoAstromony. Next, Cristina got excited when she heard a rumour about lettuce being somehow worse than bacon, then realized it’s always best to investigate claims that sound too good to be true. Finally, Adam takes on a segment suggested by former TRC host and all-around good guy Jon Abrams, who asks, “are cats really scared of cucumbers?”
Former TRC host Jon Abrams returns to examine whether everyone in the Middle Ages drank liquor because water was so dirty and polluted. Next Adam tells us the truth about lie detection. Or does he? Lastly Cristina pits the blue-blacks against the white-golds with a look at the viral picture which set off 'dressgate.'
With Darren away at a conference, former TRC host Jon Abrams steps in to take over the hosting duties for episode 309 of The Reality Check, and leads things off with a segment where he discusses a number of World War 1 myths. Next, Elan leads a game of Science Fact or Science Fiction: Great Outdoors Edition. Adam closes things out by looking into the origin of toasting glasses comes from people trying to avoid getting poisoned.
With both Darren and Adam away, former host Jon Abrams steps up in style! First Elan takes a look at the book 'The China Study.' Next Jon asks whether someone decapitated by a guillotine might see their own body. Lastly Pat looks at the difference between asteroids, comets, meteoroids, meteors and meteorites.
With Darren away getting hipper, former TRC host Jon Abrams fills in to ensure that your weekly dose of skepticism is delivered. Jon starts off the show with a segment on the interesting history of the Fahrenheit temperature scale. Next Adam looks into whether cats actually care about their owners. Pat closes things off by covering whether aloe vera is an effective treatment for burns.
The gang is joined by former TRC host Jon Abrams for a doozy of an episode. Darren leads things off by discussing a recent paper on motivated numeracy. Adam then looks into if cat purring heals bones. Jon closes things out by challenging Adam's claim from a previous episode that when you eat Chinese food you will get hungry again in an hour. Elan and Pat do their best to contribute. Enjoy!

Polish author Olga Tokarczuk—when not busy receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature—wrote in her 1998 novel House of Day, House of Night: “Your memory creates postcard images, but it doesn't really comprehend the world at all. That's why a landscape is so affected by the mood of the person looking at it. In it a person sees his own inner, transitory moments. Wherever he looks, he sees nothing but himself.” Wellllll, jeez Louise. Doc, meet Olga.
