We love Mel Brooks. He is responsible for some of the funniest movies of all time. Young Frankenstein is also one of the best adaptations the Mary Shelley classic ever made. So, we were both excited to hear about the sequel to Spaceballs. We rank our favorite movies from Brooks and why Spaceballs once disappointed us.We are also huge fans of Fright Night. While there was a great remake in the early 2010s, you just do not hear enough about it. Despite having one of horror's most iconic lines, it does not get that much love. This week, we have two bits of news; one is concrete; one is its rumored connection to one of the most infamous murders of all time. This year for Pride Month we are discussing The Last Thing Mary Saw. It is a great bit of folk horror that is frightening, atmospheric, and filled with great characters. The mystery is engaging and the performances are top notch. It also treats its queer subject matter with a sensitivity that is not seen enough. The first six months just whooshed by and we have a lot to discuss. We cover a wide range of topics. Why do we sometimes consider no longer reviewing documentaries? The good and bad of AI in film. More folk horror, a slasher, and a reverse exorcism all enter our conversation about 2025's first six months. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. We're checking into Hell Motel, the new horror anthology series from the creators of Slasher, Aaron Martin and Ian Carpenter. Paula Brancati and Jim Watson — both Slasher veterans — talk with host Aaron Sagers about their roles on the new Shudder and AMC+ series that blends true crime obsession with satanic panic and over-the-top kills. In Hell Motel, a group of true crime superfans are invited to the Cold River Motel — the site of an unsolved satanic mass murder. But when the guests get stranded, a fresh murder spree begins, turning their weekend into a deadly reenactment with bloodier results than the original crime. Brancati (as washed-up scream queen Paige) and Watson (as academic Andy) discuss horror fandom, playing flawed characters, their favorite twisted kills, and what makes Hell Motel more than just another slasher. Plus, they reveal behind-the-scenes details from the set and tease the secrets that make this series a brutal, meta must-watch. Watch Hell Motel Tuesdays on Shudder and AMC+ beginning June 17. _______________________________________________________________ The Talking Strange Show with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, as well as experts in all things strange and unexplained. This week on Shudder Sundays, we're taking a twisted walk down the YellowBrickRoad but trust us, there's no Emerald City at the end of this journey. YellowBrickRoad follows a group of researchers investigating the mysterious disappearance of an entire New Hampshire town back in 1940. We break down the eerie atmosphere, psychological horror, and that unforgettable sound design that makes YellowBrickRoad one of indie horror's most underrated trips. So grab your maps (not that they'll help), hit play, and let's get lost together.

Join Jacki and Marissa as they celebrate another favorite Ghouls streaming service: Shudder. This all horror channel has been a JG staple for years, and it brings together the best older horror classics as well as the best in indie and Shudder produced horror. Specifically, they ghouls tackle the 2023 Shudder Original The Sacrifice Game. A surprisingly fun play on home invastion and demon possession films. They also talk Mandy, a 2018 Shudder darling. Marissa gushes over the trippy artistry of the film while Jacki celebrates both the softer side of Nic Cage as well as his unhinged crazy side. And while Jacki criticizes the influencer, capitalism driven cults of consumption that define modern America Marissa sadly misses the point and ironically begs those very same companies for sponsorship (But seriously... In this episode, we sit down with the legendary John Harrison — a creative force in horror and sci-fi — to trace his incredible journey from a love of film and music to becoming one of the most influential names in genre storytelling. We talk about his early days collaborating with the great George A. Romero, composing unforgettable scores for Creepshow and Day of the Dead, and how that partnership helped launch his career. John takes us deep into his work as both a writer and director on Tales from the Darkside, from the TV series to the now cult-favorite Tales from the Darkside: The Movie. We also revisit the underrated early gem Scary Tales, his contributions to Wes Craven's Nightmare Cafe, and his time working on Tales from the Crypt — all showcasing his lasting impact on anthology horror. The conversation takes a turn into sci-fi as John discusses his major role in bringing Frank Herbert's Dune to the screen — both in the acclaimed early 2000s adaptation and as executive producer on the current hit franchise. We also dive into his work on the modern Creepshow series for Shudder, the potential for more stories to come, and his exciting shift into novel writing with his recent books Destiny Gardens, Passing Through Veils, and Residue — the latter of which was adapted into a Netflix series.John reflects on the past, shares his thoughts on the future of the genre, and offers up some truly unforgettable behind-the-scenes stories. If you're a horror fan, this is one conversation you don't want to miss.Follow John Harrison: John Harrison WebsiteJohn Harrison InstagramIf you enjoyed this - Check out my other content here - https://linktr.ee/FirstClassHorrorBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast--4295531/support.

Hang onto your slipcases because Blake Howard & Isaac Feldberg will discuss the canonisation of Sean Baker with the special CRITERION COLLECTION releases of ANORA and PRINCE OF THE CITY.AnoraContemporary cinema's foremost chronicler of American dreamers and schemers hustling on the margins of capitalist promise, Sean Baker, reaches new heights of mastery with this audacious anti–Cinderella story—a whirlwind neorealist screwball comedy with an aching heart. In an electric, star-is-born performance, Mikey Madison soars as Anora, an enterprising, ferociously foulmouthed Brooklyn erotic dancer and sex worker whose Prince Not-So-Charming comes along in the form of a Russian oligarch's wild-child son (Mark Eydelshteyn). This is the beginning of a fractured fairy tale—also featuring standout performances from Karren Karagulian, Yura Borisov, and Vache Tovmasyan—that turns the cruel realities of class inside out. Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Anora confirms Baker as one of our preeminent auteurs.DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURESNew 4K digital master, supervised by director Sean Baker and producer Alex Coco, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrackOne 4K UHD disc of the film presented in HDR and two Blu-rays with the film and special featuresTwo audio commentaries: one featuring Baker, Coco, producer Samantha Quan, and cinematographer Drew Daniels, and the other featuring Baker and actors Yura Borisov, Mark Eydelshteyn, Karren Karagulian, Mikey Madison, and Vache TovmasyanNew making-of documentaryNew interviews with Baker and MadisonCannes Film Festival press conferenceQ&A with Madison and actor-stripper Lindsey NormingtonDeleted scenesAudition footageTrailersEnglish subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing and English descriptive audioPLUS: Essays by film critic Dennis Lim and author Kier-La JanisseNew cover by Bianca Parkes and GrandSon, with photography by Max AbadianPrince of BroadwayA raw, disarmingly moving slice of neorealism, this early-career triumph from DIY auteur Sean Baker plunges into the world of West African immigrant Lucky (Prince Adu) and his Armenian Lebanese boss Levon (Karren Karagulian), two unlikely friends who peddle knockoff designer goods in Manhattan's wholesale district. When a long-forgotten ex forces him to take care of a young son he didn't even know he had, Lucky must figure out how to become a father without losing his edge in the counterfeit-merch game. Capturing the chaos of urban life through expressive handheld camera work, remarkably naturalistic performances, and flashes of manic humor, Prince of Broadway is one of Baker's most vivid explorations of the illusory nature of the American dream.DIRECTOR-APPROVED BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURESNew 4K digital restoration, supervised and approved by director Sean Baker and restoration supervisor Alex Coco, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrackTwo audio commentaries: one featuring Baker and the other featuring producer and cowriter Darren Dean, associate producer and actor Victoria Tate, and actor Karren KaragulianNew introduction by BakerArchival interviews with Baker and actor Prince AduTwo documentaries on the making of the filmRestoration demonstration featuring Baker and CocoTrailersEnglish subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearingPLUS: An essay by film critic Robert DanielsNew cover by Drusilla Adeline/Sister Hyde, with additional photography by Ivory WoodsIsaac FeldbergIsaac Feldberg is an entertainment journalist currently based in Chicago, who's been writing professionally for nine years and hopes to stay at it for a few more. What we discovered is a creepy, documentary-style film that blurs the line between fact and fiction, leaving you wondering... "This can't be real... can it?"
