Do you ever enjoy a good argument? In the scriptures, there are a surprising number of folks who argue with God. This week we'll consider several of the people in the Bible who argued with God, and try to see what motivated them to argue with the Lord and the result of that argument. Receive Fear, insecurity, arrogance, and unbelief are just some of the reasons why people argue with God in the Bible. Maybe you've argued—or are arguing—with God over similar feelings? As we look at the Bible accounts of Moses, Peter, and Ananias, and times they questioned/argued with God, let's also reflect on the powerful portrait we get of our God for their experiences. God is patient and doesn't simply override our human resistance, but often works through it toward ends that we could never have anticipated. How can you trust God even when you don't understand or agree with your circumstances? Reflect Why was Moses arguing with God in Exodus 3–4? How did God respond? Why did Peter argue with Jesus in Matthew 16:22? In Luke 22:31–34, why did Peter argue with Jesus? What caused Ananias to argue with God in Acts 9:13–14? How did Peter justify arguing with God in Acts 10:14? Respond (Use this prayer to start a conversation with God) “Dear God, thank You for being so patient with me! Help me not to argue with You when I don't understand or agree with what You're doing in my life. Help me to trust that You have the best plan for my life.” Discover more about the topics in this episode with these recommended resources Mentioned in this episode: Our Daily Bread Ministries App Listen: The Times of the Judges | Week 1 The Times of the Judges | Week 2 Read: Why Should I Trust God? The Book of Judges shows how the Israelites repeatedly fell into cycles of turning away from God during uncertain times, facing consequences, crying out for help, being rescued, and then repeating the same mistakes. Like them, we tend to reach for familiar solutions when life feels overwhelming, even when we know they're harmful. Breaking these cycles requires the courage to pause, examine our history honestly, and ask hard questions about our patterns. God walks with us through this difficult process of growth and transformation, providing the strength we need to choose differently.
Doug and Ryan talk Samson and chicken parm - among other topics as we wrap up our Spring season!
What happens after your biggest breakthrough? Gideon defeated 135,000 enemies with just 300 men, but his real test came next. Are you living for the next big moment or finding meaning in today's small ones? Sometimes the most important question isn't what God will do next, but how we'll respond to what He's already done.
When we experience significant failure, our natural response is to protect ourselves by living defensively and avoiding risk. The story of Gideon shows us how failure can cause us to lose our anchor and retreat. God calls Gideon a mighty warrior even as he finds him in hiding, reminding us that one failure doesn't define our identity or capabilities. The desire for certainty before taking action is understandable, but if we always wait for guarantees, we rarely do what we need to do. Moving forward requires choosing trust over certainty and remembering that we were created to live fully, not just in survival mode.
Doug likes ollies and olli-pop, and Ryan Thinks Manoah's wife's name is Zorah for 75% of the podcast until Doug corrects him.
In Judges, we see gifted, but flawed leaders living through cycles of compromise, rescue, and rebellion. When Israel drifts away from God, we witness the consequences of only using strength and influence without tempering it with surrender and integrity. Even though it seems like chaos, God continues to work through imperfect people. As we look at Judges, we will see why character matters more than giftedness.

Do you ever get tired of reading the Old Testament because you're pretty sure you know the story? God gives laws and his people break them, over and over again. But what if the story was about more than that? What if the OT is about more than that. Well, in this study on Discover the Word, Dr. Michelle Knight joins the group to take a closer look at the "poster book" for disobedience--the book of Judges. Explore with the group how The background of Judges is not just about obedience, but about God revealing himself. If we make this story about doing good or doing badly, we miss the fact that God was seeking his people out (like he does us), time and time again. WAYS TO LISTEN & SUBSCRIBE:
