Infos zum Spiel: Thema: Déjà Vu: A Nightmare Comes True!! Jeremy Parish chats with Retronauts contributor Stuart Gipp about the mysterious appeal of Sega's Alex Kidd franchise, then talks to Shadowgate creator Dave Marsh about the history of the game and the inspiration behind its modern-day remake.
Shadowgate was an excellent "MacVenture" game that recently had a revival and a reissue for modern console. Let's take a look back at this game and it's compelling narrative and fantastic soundtrack. Our mailbag question discusses suggestions for RPGs to introduce gamers to the genre. We streamed Shadowgate a few times last year. Later this month, I will be closing down out Patreon. Instead consider donating to our Extra Life charity drive. We are raising money for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. So far in 2019 we have raised $335. We are also on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and Stitcher. You can also download episodes from the Internet Archive.
We're delving deep into the dungeons of Castle Shadowgate for SHADOWGATE 64: TRIALS OF THE FOUR TOWERS, a puzzle/adventure/RPG hybrid that puts the "meh" in medieval! We look into the history of one of the most niche genres in gaming, the MacVenture, and explore a rich fantasy mythology that has had surprising staying power. And don't miss next week, when we cover one of the biggest games of all time, LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME! We'll be giving away a beautiful copy of the soundtrack on vinyl, so don't forget to tune in for your chance to win! In this episode, we take a look at one of the first point-and-click adventure games ever created - the ICOM Simulations developed Deja Vu, the first in the MacVenture line of adventure games (along with Uninvited, Shadowgate, and Deja Vu 2). This episode is focused solely on the first release (Deja Vu), as we tackle the history behind the game, the technologies upon which it was built, and then conduct a thorough talkthrough of the experience. Make sure you don't forget to come listen in! Timestamps: Intro / Background / History: 00:00:00 - 00:37:00 Talkthrough: 00:37:01 - 01:17:32 Final Remarks / Pantheon Ranking / Preview for Next Episode: 01:17:33 - 01:29:11
This week, the Retrovaniacs take a (spoiler filled) look at an NES port of a Macventure title, Uninvited! Was anyone able to complete this graphic point-and-click adventure without looking up some hints? Did any of us finish this game at all? Listen to find out! Spoilers abound here though, so if you somehow are in the middle of this game and don't want to figure out what the tomato monster is -- probably stop at around the 30 minute mark! *** AGAIN PLEASE NOTE, LOTS OF SPOILERS HERE! *** Afterwards, the Jeremys talk way too much about Persona 5, but that won't happen until 53:30, so you should stop there if you don't want some very minor early game spoilers. Want to skip the pre-game updates, start up the show at 5:40! Next up it's episode 50, and that means we take on a classic series starting one of our favorite invertibrates!
Gary Butterfield and Kole Ross perform Boston chiptunes, sleepwalking, game novelizations, and a little bit about the MacVenture series.
Gary Butterfield and Kole Ross die repeatedly in their attempt to talk about the MacVenture games (Deja Vu, Uninvited, and Shadowgate). Hi! Can I ask you a question? Do you like pointing? Do you like clicking? Then you’ll sure love these three games. Before LucasArts, there was the MacVenture series… a group of games that pioneered the graphical point-and-click adventure genre as we know it. This episode is a rapid-fire revue of three of the four games in the series: Deja Vu, Uninvited, and most famously, Shadowgate.
