Guest host Alistair Hirst returns to Dolby Creator Talks to speak with the audio team behind "Star Wars Outlaws," one of the most successful games of last year. Developed by Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, the title delivers a rich, cinematic gameplay experience — thanks to its immersive sound design and dynamic score. Recently nominated for a BAFTA in Audio Achievement, the team shares how they built the game's soundscape from the ground up, mixing original Star Wars recordings with new field material to create unique environments, iconic weapons, and vehicles. They also explain how Dolby Atmos® was used to deepen the spatial realism — from starships above to rain on rooftops — and how their creative approach to sound design gave the game its gritty, signature edge.“First and foremost, we landed on three main pillars... The first of them being a cinematic experience... We really wanted to tell a story using audio... The second was making it a true and authentic Star Wars experience... And finally, we coined the phrase we call the scoundrel sound... It's about keeping the grit from the original trilogy, but also updating the sounds to make them sound fresh and new.”—Simon Koudriavtsev, Audio Director, "Star Wars Outlaws"Joining today's conversation from Massive Entertainment: - Simon Koudriavtsev - Audio Director - Jacob Coles - Lead Audio Designer - Martin Weissberg - Principal Audio Designer - Simon Siegfried Klar - Senior Audio DesignerBe sure to check out "Star Wars Outlaws," available now in Dolby Atmos®, on supported platforms. Please subscribe to Dolby Creator Talks wherever you get your podcasts. You can also check out the video for this episode on YouTube.Learn more about the Dolby Creator Lab and check out Dolby.com. The Secret of Monkey Island. fWotD Episode 2620: Tales of Monkey Island Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Sunday, 7 July 2024 is Tales of Monkey Island.Tales of Monkey Island is a 2009 graphic adventure video game developed by Telltale Games under license from LucasArts. It is the fifth game in the Monkey Island series, released nearly a decade after the previous installment, Escape from Monkey Island. Developed for Windows and the Wii console, the game was released in five episodic segments, between July and December 2009. In contrast to Telltale's previous episodic adventure games, whose chapters told discrete stories, each chapter of Tales of Monkey Island is part of an ongoing narrative. The game was digitally distributed through WiiWare and Telltale's own website, and later through Steam and Amazon.com. Ports for OS X, the PlayStation Network, and iOS were released several months after the series ended.Players assume the role of pirate Guybrush Threepwood, who—while attempting to destroy his nemesis, the undead pirate LeChuck—accidentally releases a voodoo pox across the Gulf of Melange. With the assistance of his wife, Elaine Marley–Threepwood, Guybrush seeks out a cure. The game was conceived in late 2008, due to renewed interest in adventure game development within LucasArts. It was developed concurrently with LucasArts' special edition of the 1990 game The Secret of Monkey Island; LucasArts oversaw production of Tales of Monkey Island, and ensured that it matched the remake in certain areas, such as art direction. Production began in early 2009; franchise creator Ron Gilbert was involved in project planning, while development was led by Dave Grossman, who co-designed the first two Monkey Island games. The game's music was composed by Michael Land, and the core cast of The Curse of Monkey Island reprised their voice roles.Tales of Monkey Island received generally positive reviews. Critics praised the game's story, writing, humor, voice acting and characterization; 1UP.com described Guybrush as Telltale's strongest and most expressive character yet. The game's music and graphics were also lauded. Complaints focused primarily on the perceived erratic quality of the game's puzzle design, a weak supporting cast in the early chapters, and the game's control system. Tales of Monkey Island garnered several industry awards, and was Telltale's most commercially successful project until Back to the Future: The Game.A sixth entry in the franchise, Return to Monkey Island by publisher Devolver Digital, Lucasfilm Games and Terrible Toybox, was released on September 19, 2022.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:32 UTC on Sunday, 7 July 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Tales of Monkey Island on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Matthew.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes Tuesday morning saw the announcement of the 96th Academy Award nominees, presented by Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid. Oppenheimer leads the race with 13 nominations, closely followed by Poor Things with 11 nominations. Killers of the Flower Moon received 10 nominations and Martin Scorsese, at 81, became the oldest directing nominee in Oscar history. Barbenheimer's other half, Barbie earned eight nominations, including best picture, but director Greta Gerwig was notably excluded from the director category. Alongside Barbie, Anatomy of a Fall and Past Lives were also best picture nominations from female directors, setting another Oscar record. American Fiction, The Holdovers, Maestro, and The Zone of Interest round out the rest of the best picture noms.' We're slapping a big ol' RUMOR disclaimer on this one, but Ryan Gosling has reportedly met with Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige to discuss potential roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with one of the rumored characters being Nova. While it's still uncertain if official talks are underway, Gosling recently departed from his long-attached Wolfman project with Universal and Blumhouse, raising speculation about a possible Marvel connection.  The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Universal is developing a new installment in the "Jurassic World" franchise. David Koepp, known for adapting the original 1993 "Jurassic Park" and its 1997 sequel, is set to return to the franchise to write the screenplay, with Steven Spielberg executive producing. The film reportedly aims to introduce a fresh storyline, potentially launching a new era for the franchise.  Lucasfilm has unveiled an action-packed trailer for the upcoming third and final season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, set to premiere on Feb. 21 with a three-episode debut and concluding on May 1. The trailer teased the Batch's challenging quest to reunite with Omega, navigating threats from the Empire and seeking unexpected allies. The voice cast includes Dee Bradley Baker, Jimmi Simpson and Wanda Sykes, and titles for all 15 episodes were revealed, which are already fueling fan speculation and anticipation.  The first gameplay trailer for "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" debuted during the Xbox Developer Direct 2024 event on January 18. Wolfenstein series developer MachineGames is set to release the highly anticipated Xbox Series X game in 2024, which features an original story set between the movies "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Last Crusade." The gameplay showcased immersive action, intriguing puzzles, and iconic Nazi-punching, all from an unexpected first-person perspective. Developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and under the executive production of Todd Howard, of Fallout and Elder Scrolls fame, the game will be exclusive to Xbox Series X and PC.

The Star Wars Outlaws release date confusion started just two days into the new year. IGN initially reported that the game would be landing in late 2024 and then Ubisoft responded. The Star Wars Outlaws gameplay trailer has many fans looking forward to the game, but the release date was simply shown to be 2024. This Star Wars Outlaws news has me concerned that the game will be pushed out too early like Jedi Survivor was. So with the Star Wars Outlaws 2024 release window now in question, I would prefer a delay over a rushed release. Star Wars Outlaws is an upcoming action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft under license by Lucasfilm Games. The game takes place during the period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Infos zum Spiel: Thema: Déjà Vu: A Nightmare Comes True!! I got into gaming in the 1990s, but my introduction to gaming was handheld consoles like the Game Gear and Game Boy, not PC games (aside from whatever my schools had in the computer labs), so the golden era of PC point-and-click adventure games completely missed me. Luckily, through the power of technology, I'm able to go back and revisit some of the formative classics that shaped many childhoods. Check out all of our other Stranded Panda Podcasts! www.strandedpanda.com Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Disney announced major shake-ups to its release schedule with far reaching effects to some of the biggest franchises under its belt. Most notably, the Marvel slate has seen a complete overhaul with Phase 5 film Captain America: Brave New World shifting dates from May 3, 2024 to July 26, 2024, which in turn, delays the Thunderbolts to December 20, 2024. Similarly Phase 6 is seeing Blade and The Fantastic Four pushed to February 14, 2025 and May 5, 2025 respectively. Perhaps the biggest impact is both phase-culmination Avenger films being delayed by a full year each, with The Kang Dynasty now eyeing a May 1, 2026 release and Secret Wars set for May 7, 2027. After languishing in development hell, The Flash is finally set to hit theaters later this week and the film's press tour is in full sprint! Star Ezra Miller has been noticeably absent, as the studio has focused on marketing and promoting the film itself, rather than its star, which is unsurprising given Miller's problematic past behavior. While early reviews are positive and there is certainly buzz around the flick, box office projections for its opening are soft at around $70 to $75 million. Director Andy Muscheitti has featured heavily in the film's promotion and while there won't be a script until after the writer's strike ends, he is reportedly the frontrunner for the DCU's Batman reboot: Batman: The Brave and The Bold. The Autobots and Maximals rolled out in fine fashion last weekend, taking the top spot at the box office with a $61 million domestic debut. That was enough to narrowly beat out Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in its second weekend, which saw a strong and impressive $55.4 million hold. The Transformers sequel/prequel from Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. is a recent series best, beating 2018's Bumblebee which opened to $21.6 million and 2017's The Last Knight's $44.6 million debut. According to industry insiders, Nintendo and Illumination are reportedly close to finalizing a deal for the next entry in the Nintendo film franchise: The Legend of Zelda. More Nintendo films were a given in the wake of The Super Mario Bros. Movie's unbridled $1.6 billion success, with many fans clamoring for a Zelda adaptation specifically. Always the shrewd business, Nintendo is apparently aware of the franchise's potential as the insider reports also suggest that obtaining rights will cost Universal “a pretty penny.” Adult Swim has released a new trailer for the upcoming animated series My Adventures with Superman, starring Jack Quaid as Superman. Ahsoka will begin streaming on Disney+ on August 23rd. (We originally reported a rumor that it would be streaming 8/31). Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is currently tracking for a $60+ million dollar domestic box office outing. This lackluster projection comes on the heels of lackluster reviews, a sparse marketing campaign, and a crowded summer blockbuster listing of films. Tom Holland announced that following the emotional weight of his upcoming AppleTV+ series The Crowded Room, that he is taking a year off from acting. Holland recently described the role as leading to "a bit of a meltdown" in his personal life. The first 5 minutes of the upcoming Marvel series Secret Invasion is now available to view online. The first episode of the series begins streaming on June 21st. Lucasfilm Games has released the first cinematic trailer for the upcoming Star Wars game Star Wars Outlaws. A gameplay trailer was also shown and the game was described as the “first open world star wars game” 'Stan Lee,' an original documentary on the life and impact of Marvel comics creator Stan Lee arrives on Disney+ this week on June 16th.
