75: LOL Friday Short: No Justice In Flint Water Crisis

Left of Lansing

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 3, 2023 5:13

My Left of Lansing "Friday Short" covers a sad ending to the Flint Water Crisis, in which not one public official will face prosecution for their role in one of the greatest man-made disasters the state of Michigan, and the country, has ever experienced.  Former Michigan Republican Gov. Rick Snyder won't have to face any kind of punishment for the crisis he and his administration caused. Meanwhile, as Allen Overton, pastor of Flint's Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church told Bridge Magazine: “Injustice, in this community, has been the norm,” “This just continues to show us that this legal system that we call justice is not really justice at all." Nothing could be more true.  People like Rick Snyder can walk between the raindrops, untouched by the same justice we must follow.  It's a tragic ending to a tragic story he and his people caused.  leftoflansing@gmail.com  leftoflansing.com

My Left of Lansing "Short" this Friday is about Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy's proposal to ban anyone under 25 from voting, unless they fulfil specific requirements, including passing a citizenship test.  Generation Z is not only a politically active voting bloc, especially in Michigan, but it's also a highly progressive voting bloc. Rather than fight for their vote based on their hate-filled policies, Ramaswamy's brilliant idea is taking away their voting rights.  Gina Keller from Distill Social talked about how progressives are doing a better job at connecting and messaging with Gen Z voters, as we witnessed in the 2022 midterm elections. And that scares the right wing, which is why it's trying to silence young voters. --Pat leftoflansing@gmail.com leftoflansing.com

Tread Perilously's examination of ABC's TGIF lineup continues with an episode of Full House called "My Left and Right Foot." When DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy Gibbler make fun of her feet -- which a shoe salesman tells them are slightly larger than average for a girl her age -- Michelle gets extreme anxiety; leading to stress dreams and a radical solution. Meanwhile, Uncle Jesse has to tell Becky that she cannot be part of his trio with Joey and Danny because her voice is terrible. Will he be able to teach her how to harmonize? Sarah Madden joins Erik and Justin for a stroll down dim 1990s memories. Justin freaks out when he realizes Full House is a Dune-sized epic. Erik refuses to use Dave Coulier's catchphrase. Sarah schools Erik on his unkind use of "Yoko" as a verb. He conjures up memories of the short-lived sitcom You Again? while Sarah introduces an unseen terror lurking in Michelle's dream. Justin discusses the relative ease in changing a diaper. The team decides the Tanner mom is from Perfect Stranger's Mypos and died in a comical accident either involving a fat fryer or many goats. They also come to the startling realization that Dave Coulier's head does indeed look like a toe.

Thomas Kelly is another proud member of the We Love Aunt Becky Fan Club. Aunt Becky is kind, smart, and a great mother. Aunt Becky is a beautiful, bodacious babe. And she deserves a hell of a lot more than the callous, petty monster that is Uncle Jesse. It's not like we needed more proof of this, per se, but "My Left and Right Foot" is more than willing to serve it up. It also makes more than a bit of time to examine Michelle's fragile psyche, a delicate glass bauble that shatters with the realization that her feet are fucking disgusting. Really, she's just like Kimmy in that way, and I think we all know how the Tanners feel about Kimmy (they hate her they hate her they hate her). We also discuss the comedian's dress code, tackle some world records, and face some personal demons, all while wondering what it would mean to take your Cat Lady to Shoney's. So don't go anywhere, true believers, because you know what they say: Egg Sell Seashore! Right? Stan Lee? We watched Guardians II this weekend. XOXO
