Have we become desensitized to this kind of violence? Is there anything to be done about it? Pike Howard, owner of Felipe's Taqueria, joins Ian to share how the recent string of violence near his establishment has affected his business and morale.
Armed with a studio full of synthesizers and powerful production software, many electronic musicians will create sonic images of vast, cold, cosmic space. Others will conjure up infectious sequencer rhythms, and attract a high energy crowd with electronic dance music. Still others, following the great European symphonic tradition, will electrify the orchestra, or create ambient electronic soundscapes. A smaller group find inspiration in the environment, incorporating the sounds of nature in their music. But perhaps the most unusual are inspired by the supernatural—the worlds of myth and legend, literature and folklore. They create music for spirits, fairies, sprites and elves, wood and water nymphs, elementals, and other invisible denizens of the magic forest. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, it's a magical journey in supernatural spaces, on a program called "ENCHANTED LANDS." But along with our ability to constantly access information, we can hit a point of input overload, leading to overwhelm and even a dullness of hearing. How can we prove faithful with the availability of constant input via the world wide web? Today I am sharing three ways to grow in our discernment when it comes to all the input from the internet. Too Much Input Can...1. Make it difficult to discern everything2. Desensitized and distract 3. Send us a textHave women become as desensitized as men in modern relationships? Join us on Life Points with Rhonda to explore this provocative question as we trace the evolution of relationship values through different generations. This episode promises to shed light on the generational dynamics at play and offer insights into the changing landscape of romantic relationships.Discover the critical role that emotional intelligence plays in shaping the future of relationships. We also highlight how schools, communities, and mentorship can promote emotional connection and intelligence, providing strategies to nurture deep, meaningful relationships for future generations. Shiur from Rabbi Elimelech Kohn Ztl on פרשת שופטים. Discussed: The Yalkut and Zohar bring a Medrash where Malachaim questioned Hashem why the Torah has more compassion for animal blood than Jewish blood. Hashem's response is alluded to in a Pasuk at the beginning of the Parsha. R' Chatzkel Levenstein encouraged the Bochurim to feel the fear and anguish of their fellow Jews as if the Yeshiva was physically at the battlefields. This lesson of sensitivity is the reason why Eglah Arufa is interposed during the discussion of war to re-sensitize us to the preciousness of one human life even in the midst of battle.
PSA: Although we did talk about a social media lockdown that was supposedly happening Australia, that was spread on the internet , we found in doing additional research on the upload of this very podcast that the information is false. That to say, it did spark some genuinely good conversation, and it was fun to share our thoughts on the idea of what that would be like.In addition to that, we talk about how Austin is terribly desensitized, and we share personal news, as well as more global news! Radical Islamist migrants are winning the war in the UK, where leaders jail their own citizens for trying to save their country, and gaining in other countries, as well! As your Terrorist Therapist®, Carole Lieberman, M.D., I have been warning you for years that terrorists want GLOBAL JIHAD - not just to destroy Israel and Jews. They've been working night and day for over 1,000 years to make their dream of conquering the world a reality… and it is finally coming true in England, France, Germany, Belgium, Africa and many other places. So, can America be far behind? NO! They're already here. As you listen to this podcast, I want you to ask yourself: Are we desensitized to terrorism? Have we capitulated to terrorism? Or are political forces, who want to destroy the West, forcing us to welcome terrorists into our midst?Currently, most shocking is the impact of the invasion of Radical Islamist migrants into England/the UK, where Islamists have gained increasing political power - from London's mayor Sadiq Khan to Prime Minister Keir Starmer. You'll hear how a Taylor Swift birthday party for little girls, attacked by a terrorist, has lit a match to create a civil war-with migrants storming the streets yelling “Allahu Akbar” and attacking random British citizens. Worse, these leaders are putting Brits in jail if they complain and protecting the terrorists instead! Yes, it's surreal. Almost as surreal is what was discovered in Germany: Afghans who claim ‘refugee' status, meaning they'd be in grave danger if they remained in their country of origin, now go on holiday to Afghanistan! You'll also hear how Iran is helping the Kamala campaign. Of course, they don't want Trump to win because he recognizes Iran for the threat to America that they are. In case you don't believe terrorists arean imminent threat, how about the Palestinian who was just arrested in Florida, after threatening to bomb a gas plant? In an effort to bring you some good news, I'll describe the recent court decision by a brave judge who issued a preliminary injunction against UCLA, that would shut down the campus if Pro-Hamas protesters continue to block Jewish students, and the antisemitic Columbia University president, Nemat Minouche Shafik, who finally resigned. But, Columbia U. Apartheid Divest is unabashedly proclaiming their goal is “total eradication of Western Civilization” and threatening to use even more extreme tactics. So, are you still desensitized?

Road signs seem to get read less than a seventh-grade history textbook. Even the most ubiquitous, exact signs like — STOP — are seemingly up for interpretation (everyone is an artist now, or something). Unfortunately, we're not obeying those crafty yard signs that encourage slowing down, either. Signs that give dynamic feedback — thanks to a radar function that feeds a display board — do make an impact, but not enough. Thorough, safer urban design is the way to lower speeds, and thus lower pedestrian and bike fatalities and accidents. The bottom line: we humans aren't good at judging the proper speed at which to drive. Whatever number is listed, we add nine-ish mph. We need an environment (streets) that demand driver caution, care, and presence. Also, data to follow up on last week's Tara Hill Drive conversation. Hint: traffic calming measures work (see links below). We discuss: 00:00 Slow down: duck crossing. 01:38 Becoming desensitized to pedestrian safety? 02:28 Effectiveness of road signage. 07:31 Dynamic, electronic feedback signs. 10:07 Why we need urban design and traffic calming infrastructure. 10:59 Data on speed and fatalities on U.S. roads. 16:59 Case study follow up (from last week): traffic calming in Dublin, Ohio. 23:47 The new studio, soon. 25:57 Wrapping up. Similarly, one can mostly go about his routine while identifying with the eis tzara in Israel, or r"l because he is becoming detached from it. - We must not slip into a mode in which we've acclimated to the eis tzara and our sense of it fades. If we feel ourselves becoming desensitized, we have to take concrete steps to reengage. We must sustain our level of concern as long as the eis tzara is ongoing.

We must never let ourselves become desensitized to this. To any part of this. We must never cease appreciating the sun on our skin and the wind in our hair, and we must never cease being shocked by the fact that there are people whose entire job is to push for more war. We must never lose our sense of wonder at the birds in the air, and we must never lose our sense of horror at the fact that there are people who profit from war and militarism and lobby for more of it at every opportunity. Rachel discusses the shame she felt from being a girl struggling with porn, how being exposed to violent pornography from such a young age caused her to later be desensitized to an abusive relationship, and why she now encourages people to talk about their struggle in order to break from the shame that so often keeps them struggling.Article: Why Fighting Porn Must Include Fighting ShameVideo: How I Realized I Had A Porn Problem: Myuniqe's StoryPodcast: Consider Before Consuming Ep. 52: Katelyn
