Confira os destaques do Jornal da Manhã desta sexta-feira (13): O presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva anunciou um pacote de medidas para conter o impacto da guerra no Irã sobre o preço do diesel e a inflação. Entre as ações estão um decreto que zera as alíquotas de PIS/Cofins sobre o combustível, o que pode reduzir o valor em R$ 0,32 por litro, e uma medida provisória que prevê subvenção no mesmo valor a produtores e importadores. O governo também determinou a tributação da exportação de petróleo para ampliar o refino interno e exigiu que postos de combustíveis informem de forma clara aos consumidores a redução de impostos e preços. Os Estados Unidos emitiram uma licença temporária de 30 dias que permite a países comprarem petróleo russo e derivados que atualmente estão retidos no mar. Segundo o secretário do Tesouro, Scott Bessent, a medida busca ajudar a estabilizar os mercados globais de energia diante da volatilidade causada pela guerra contra o Irã. O anúncio ocorreu poucas horas depois de o preço do petróleo ultrapassar a marca de US$ 100 por barril, atingindo o maior nível em quase quatro anos. O Brasil registrou 140 casos confirmados de Mpox desde o início de 2026, segundo dados atualizados pelo Ministério da Saúde. Até o momento, não houve registro de mortes pela doença no período. Além dos casos confirmados, o país contabiliza 539 casos suspeitos e 9 considerados prováveis, mantendo o monitoramento da situação pelas autoridades de saúde. O novo líder supremo do Irã, Mojtaba Khamenei, afirmou que o país deve continuar utilizando o bloqueio do Estreito de Ormuz como instrumento de pressão geopolítica. A declaração foi divulgada por meio de uma mensagem lida na TV estatal iraniana, poucos dias após ele assumir o posto ocupado por seu pai, Ali Khamenei. No comunicado, o novo líder também aconselhou países vizinhos a fecharem bases militares dos Estados Unidos na região, afirmando que essas instalações continuarão sendo alvo de ataques iranianos. O Ministério Público do Paraná sofreu uma nova derrota no desdobramento judicial do Caso Evandro após recorrer ao Supremo Tribunal Federal contra uma decisão do Superior Tribunal de Justiça. O ministro Gilmar Mendes manteve a revisão criminal que anulou os processos relacionados ao desaparecimento e morte do menino Evandro Ramos Caetano. The Chatham Islands, that rely heavily on diesel to power the island, are bracing for an energy shock. While some of the island is now powered by the Point Durham wind farm that opened in November, petrol is also shipped to the island about 800kms from the mainland. The price of Brent Crude is fluctuating off the back of war in the Middle East, as around 650 residents on the Chatham's brace for pain at the pump. Chatham Islands Enterprise Trust chief executive, Bob Penter spoke to Lisa Owen.

Off the top of the podcast this week, the voice of February Trucker of the Month Adam Mackey, headquartered in Mustang, Oklahoma, about his "Aftersolo" Youtube channel where's been documenting his journey through owner-operated trucking since 2022. Named after his dog, Solo, whom he'd sadly lost around that time, Aftersolo features plenty in the way of DIY care he's put into the Freightliner Columbia and Utility flatbed that carry the Mosermackey Trucking business forward. The channel is a remarkable repository for various and sundry of the owner-operator's maintenance and modification projects on the Columbia, likewise all manner of other topics around the business. First things first, though. It's been a week, to say the least, in the world oil markets. If you've been paying attention to OverdriveOnline.com you'll note an update that diesel prices passed $4/gal. early last week in Nashville where Overdrive Radio host Todd Dills is headquartered, fast on the heels of U.S. and Isreali strikes on Iran: https://overdriveonline.com/15818628 Today (Monday, March 9) Dills reports predictions of a "runaway market" in that story a week ago appear correct. "We've passed five dollars for a gallon of diesel here" in Nashville, Dills says, "well above six out on the West Coast of course and elsewhere." If you're in a leased operation or working with shippers where you benefit from fuel-surcharge rate adjustments, here's hope those are updating quickly to cover rapidly increasing costs. If you're working with brokers, don't be shy about educating them in your negotiations, such as they may need it, about cost-offset needs in the rate. For many independents like Adam Mackey, it's surely been a week full of that, and it's a real shame the diesel run-up has come when it has, given the gains in freight-market strength in the last several months.
