John Orlando from the PVDCast and Gerald Glassford from the Pop Culture Cosmos climb back into the ring for this special look at pro wrestling history with one of the most famous (or infamous) organizations ever in World Championship Wrestling. Check in as the guys go over the bright spots and low spots, the highs and lows, and the good and bad from the memories of what at one time was the #2 wrestling company behind WWE, and for 83 weeks, even surpassing the corporate giant in the ratings battle of the Monday Night Wars. They go over the most memorable matches and events from WCW as they evolved (and devolved) from their beginnings, taking over the NWA and Jim Crockett Promotions to their demise and subsequent swallowing up by Vince McMahon in the early 2000s. It's a classic pro wrestling look at one of the most memorable times ever for hardcore wrestling fans, as John Orlando and Gerald Glassford take a look back at WCW on a special State of Pro Wrestling on the PCC Multiverse!Gear up with your favorite Pop Culture Cosmos shirts and gifts in our TeePublic store at https://www.teepublic.com/user/pop-culture-cosmos.Questions for us? On this episode of 83 Weeks, Eric Bischoff and Conrad Thompson pull back the curtain on some of wrestling's hottest business topics and biggest misconceptions. Eric explains why he believes Ted Turner is one of the biggest reasons WWE is still thriving today, and how the Monday Night Wars forever changed the industry. He also dives into the reality of talent contracts, discussing why a WWE deal never guaranteed The New Day lifetime job security and why, sometimes, audiences simply move on from an act. The guys welcome gimmick attorney, Michael Dockins to the show. Mike breaks down the often misunderstood 90-day non-compete clause, revealing how it actually works behind the scenes, while Mike and Eric analyzes the new "delightfully vague" language appearing in modern talent agreements. Plus, Bischoff gives his take on the myth of "no-cut contracts" and why guaranteed deals aren't always what fans think they are. Business takes center stage as Eric praises TKO Group Holdings's partnership with ESPN, calling it a brilliant marketing move for the future of wrestling media. He also reflects on the financial disasters of World Championship Wrestling house shows, revealing just how much money the company burned during its peak years. And in one of the wildest conversations yet, Eric explores how OpenAI and artificial intelligence could help shape future wrestling storylines before 83 Weeks actually uses ChatGPT to fantasy book the main event of SummerSlam!       ROCKET MONEY - Cancel your unwanted subscriptions and reach your financial goals faster with Rocket Money. Getting access to WCW content is a bit difficult at the moment, so in the meantime, we're headed back to the movies! During the buildup to Halloween Havoc 1996 - which we'll hopefully get to soon - Hulk Hogan was busy playing aging children's martial arts show star Dave Dragon in "3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain." It was even featured on Nitro at one point - albeit in a way I suspect the filmmakers would rather it had not. As for the actual film... When a paramilitary / ninja group takes over a theme park that coincidentally happens to be the site of youngest brother Tum Tum's birthday party (attended by precisely zero of his friends), the 3 Ninjas - Rocky, Colt, and Tum Tum - fight back, accompanied by new friend Amanda, a special effects whiz (somehow, special effects prop building includes hacking, so I expect to see that on Adam Savage's "Tested" channel any day now). Can the 3 Ninjas save the park guests? Can Dave Dragon, stage show star, become a real hero and stop getting knocked out easily every other scene? Has anyone writing the hacking scenes in this movie even seen a computer before? Plus: Copying Die Hard's homework, some extremely confusing villain plans, Jim Varney - Ernest himself - manages to play a scary villain for a few minutes before it starts going as expected, and a rich dude gets humiliated for nothing more than being a rich dude. For all this and more...let's go to the movies!Music by Michael Gary Brewer at https://www.instantmusicnow.com/Follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/LetsGo2theRing/

On this LIVE edition of 83 Weeks, Eric Bischoff and Conrad Thompson turn back the clock to one of the most pivotal nights in wrestling history the 25th anniversary of the final episode of WCW Monday Nitro.  Joining the show is author Guy Evans, who brings deep research and insight into the financial realities and corporate decisions that led to WCW's demise. Eric and Guy break down why Eric's own deal to purchase WCW ultimately fell apart, and how the business side of wrestling sealed the company's fate.   But that's just the beginning.   Eric shares his take on how he would have booked the final Nitro, revealing creative ideas and missed opportunities from that historic night. He also reflects on the crossover appeal of the nWo, including why Dennis Rodman's involvement was such a major highlight, and drops a surprising take on why Shawn Michaels would have never fit into the faction. Plus, Eric dives into some fun "what if" scenarios, including how Ted DiBiase Jr. could have added a fascinating wrinkle to the Rhodes vs. Orton WrestleMania storyline. And if you've ever wondered what Eric considers the true "Big Four" of WCW pay-per-views, he's laying it out definitively. This week's podcast is a conversation with my former Atlanta neighbor, Steve Chamberlain, a former media executive whose career has intersected with some of the biggest brands and celebrities in entertainment history. I originally wanted to talk to Steve because of his experience leading the go-to-market plan of The Beatles Anthology, one of the most commercially successful recording projects of all-time. It was to be the follow-up episode to last week's interview with Peter Doggett, author of 'You Never Give Me Your Money: The Beatles After the Break Up'.And while Steve and I discussed this at length, I found his experience as an executive vice president at Turner Broadcasting in the 1980s even more interesting. Working directly for Ted Turner, Steve's responsibilities included everything from home video to cable syndication and World Championship Wrestling. He shares a great story about utilizing 1-900 telephone numbers to monetize wrestlers' smack talk. It's a fun insight into the early days of a pre-Internet media “start-up.”Steve oversaw the 50th Anniversary celebrations for both Gone With the Wind and Casablanca, then—after Turner— went on to captain the release of Frank Sinatra's Duets, which eventually led to his work with the Fab Four.Check it out here or wherever you get your podcast love.✍️ Please rate and review Reasonably Happy HERE (DO IT!) ✍️

From Vince McMahon's corporate suplexes and Eric Bischoff's nWo invasion to Stone Cold Steve Austin's beer-soaked rebellion, the conversation delivers a perfectly executed takedown of the storylines, egos, and cultural body slams that turned wrestling into prime-time must-see television. The bell then rings for round two as the discussion pivots—without missing a beat—from steel chairs to therapy sessions. HBO's The Sopranos receives a masterclass analysis of its groundbreaking narrative, the morally ambiguous family business, and the way Tony Soprano turned the mob drama into prestige television's original hit job. Expect sharp insights on character arcs sharper than a wiseguy's knife, thematic depth deeper than the Hudson, and the series' enduring legacy as the show that whacked network television's formulaic playbook.Clever, contextual, and endlessly entertaining, this episode proves that whether the action unfolds inside a squared circle or a New Jersey living room, the real prize is capturing an era's imagination—one Monday night at a time.Tune in to Entertain This! wherever podcasts are streamed. On this special REMIX episode of What Happened When, Tony Schiavone and Conrad Thompson sit down together to watch WWF Monday Night RAW from April 27, 1998—and for Tony, it's a first-time viewing of one of the most infamous moments of the Monday Night War. The focus? D-Generation X and their audacious, real-world invasion of World Championship Wrestling. As the episode unfolds, Tony reacts in real time to seeing Triple H, X-Pac, and the New Age Outlaws roll up to WCW's doorstep, cameras rolling, lines blurring between storyline and reality. From the perspective of a man who was insideWCW when it happened, Tony offers candid, unfiltered insight into what the locker room likely thought, how management viewed the stunt, and why this moment symbolized WWF's growing confidence in 1998. Conrad guides the conversation with context—breaking down where WWF stood creatively, why this episode of Monday Night Raw felt so dangerous and unpredictable, and how DX's fourth-wall-breaking antics represented a turning point in the war for wrestling fans' attention. Expect laughs, disbelief, and plenty of "I can't believe they did that" moments as Tony processes the invasion not as a rival executive, but as a fan watching history unfold. The duo also discusses how this single segment changed perceptions, raised the stakes, and helped redefine what competition looked like in professional wrestling. It's a rare, behind-the-curtain look at the DX invasion—told by the voice of WCW himself—on an episode that proves just how wild, bold, and real the Monday Night Wars had become. WWF IN YOUR HOUSE: BURIED ALIVE REWIND!WWF In Your House: Buried Alive was the 11th In Your House pay-per-view offering from the revolutionary force in sports entertainment, and it took place on October 20, 1996 at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1996, the World Wrestling Federation was trying some new things, especially with the nWo angle in World Championship Wrestling beginning to take off in popularity. This Buried Alive Match was one of those things, and simply put, the winner would have to bury his opponent alive. We take a deep dive, no pun intended, into the pay-per-view, where many parts were moving: Jim Ross was a heel, the show opened with a heel vs. heel match, Owen Hart/British Bulldog and the Smoking Gunns having another terrible ending to their second straight pay-per-view match, Marc Mero blew out his knee, Goldust threatened to stick his tongue down everyone's throats, Sid being super over at this time, the entrance gate, and just how much "buried alive" is buried alive? We also throw in some tidbits on the 1993 Phillies, so press play!

But what about a game that isn't bad, but isn't good? It's just kinda, there? That's how I'd describe WCW Mayhem. The glory days of WCW were long gone by the time Mayhem dropped. THQ was taking their Revenge engine and turning it into WWF WrestleMania 2000, and EA picked up the bony remains of World Championship Wrestling to make a new wrestling game. The end result was Mayhem, a competent wrestling game with little replay value and a barebones career mode.I'm rolling solo this week, and while I still had fun playing WCW Mayhem, it made for a tricky review because there just isn't a lot of meat on the bone. But between the engine, ranting about Hulk Hogan, comparing it to other games from that era, and reminiscing about WCW as a whole, I managed to pry a 3-star match out of our game this week. And before we hit the ring, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think the big jumps in console generations are a thing of the past? What's my favourite WCW match? And where do I stand on the Pikmin series?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Professional wrestling legend Hulk Hogan (real name: Terry Bollea) passed away on Thursday, July 24 in Clearwater, Florida. He was 71 years old. Hulk Hogan was and remains one of the most important figures in American and global popular culture. Hulk Hogan/Terry Bollea also leaves behind a very complicated legacy. Brian R. Solomon is a leading professional wrestling journalist, historian, and author. He is the host of the popular Shut up and Wrestle podcast. His new book is Irresistible Force: The Life and Times of Gorilla Monsoon. Solomon reflects on why the death of Hulk Hogan has caused so much emotional pain and tumult for those of us who came of age in the 1980s and directly experienced the rise of the global cultural phenomenon that was the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) and Hulkamania. Solomon details why Hulk Hogan and the WWF's meteoric rise, his decades-long career (including reinventing himself as the leader of the New World Order faction in World Championship Wrestling), and marriage of personality and cultural moment will never be repeated again in professional wrestling, and likely sports more broadly.  Solomon and Chauncey discuss their love of professional wrestling and why Hulk Hogan was so central to it – and also try to process how Terry Bollea's foul behavior and values such as his racism, hostility to labor unions, and public alliance with Donald Trump and the MAGA movement complicates that relationship and nostalgia.
