She was named a "Mover & Shaker" by Library Journal in 2007, awarded the 2016 ALA Equality Award, and presented with the 2017 ALA Achievement in Library Diversity Research Award by the Office for Diversity and Literacy Outreach Services. The Give Black Podcast-a-Thon was originally recorded during a 12-hour event streamed live on Aug. 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Give Black benefitted USC’s One Creed, One Carolina campaign, which supports initiatives that elevate and encourage Black students, faculty and staff. Her research and teaching interests include human information behavior, mis/disinformation, critical cultural information studies, and diversity and social justice in librarianship. She was the 2019 ALISE Excellence in Teaching Award recipient, and she has also received the American Library Association’s 2016 Equality Award and the 2017 Achievement in Library Diversity Research Award presented by ALA’s Office for Diversity, Literacy & Outreach. Cooke has edited and authored several books, including Information Services to Diverse Populations and Fake News and Alternative Facts: Information Literacy in a Post-truth Era. We were there for both days of the conference and we're bringing you three special editions of the Tech for Good Live podcast with a whole host of fantastic guests. On episode one, joining podcast regular Greg Ashton, Digital Strategist at digital agency, Reason Digital and host Rebecca Rae-Evans, consultant at the design agency Sigma, are Gry Hasselbalch and Nicole A. Cooke. Gry is co-founder of DataEthics.eu. For over a decade, she has worked with the industry, policymakers, NGOs, and end users in the cross field of tech, ethics, human rights, and society. She is also appointed member of the European Commission’s high level group on AI and ethics developing ethics and policy guidelines for AI in Europe. Nicole is an associate professor at the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds an M.Ed. in adult education from Pennsylvania State University and an MLS and a Ph.D. in communication, information and library studies from Rutgers University. Fancy.
