The University of South Carolina’s Student Government presents 1801 Live, an event and podcast series highlighting UofSC alumni and student organizations, hosted by current Student Body Vice President Hannah White. 1801 Live takes its name from the founding year of the university and aims to spark a collaborative conversation between alumni and current student leaders, as we discuss relevant and controversial topics surrounding our campus.

Give Black, part 18: Dr. Michelle L. Bryan From 2006-2015, Dr. Michelle L. Bryan was a member of the Educational Foundations and Inquiry faculty in the Department of Educational Studies in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina where she previously taught introductory and advanced qualitative research methods courses, as well as Foundations of Education courses that specifically explored the role of race and racism in educational settings. Most recently, she served as the chair of the Department of Advanced Studies and Innovation at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. In July of 2017, Michelle re-joined the University of South Carolina's College of Education and currently serves as the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Give Black, part 10: Chelsie Kryst and Dr. William Tate Chelsie Kryst graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from the Honors College at the University of South Carolina and earned both her law degree and MBA from Wake Forest University. She was crowned Miss USA in May 2019, and was the third woman from North Carolina to win the competition. Dr. William “Bill” Tate is the first Black provost of the University of South Carolina. He came to South Carolina from Washington University in St. Louis, where he served as the dean of the graduate school and vice provost for graduate education. She is the first Black woman to graduate from the university. Today, Dr. Treadwell is a professor and the director of Community Voices at Morehouse School of Medicine.
