This is the concluding part of a TWO PART episode. On 2nd May 1924, Patrick Mahon was arrested after Police found a brown Gladstone bag in the left luggage kiosk of Waterloo Station containing a woman's bloodstained clothes and a ten inch cook's knife. But with Emily missing, very little evidence and her body destroyed, although her death looked accidental, the Police now had to prove that this was a murder. A podcast looking at different sides to the forensic pathologist Bernard Spilsbury, a brilliant pathologist but maybe lacking in humanity as he was entranced by his image. We look at two cases showing different aspects of his work, The murder of Emily Kaye at the Crumbles in Eastbourne where he did an excellent job that was praised by the Public Prosecutions Office, which was most unusual. There was a similar case where a chicken farmer at Crowborough is accused of pre-meditated murder and the court case becomes centred on arguments between two pathologists which may have resulted in an unfair trial, and although Spilsbury may have won the case, his reputation started to slip afterwards. Both cases involve a man killing and cutting up his lover so I would have thought sympathy would not be with the guilty men but with the women that they killed. We also see some aspects of the rise and fall of Bernard Spilsbury, I know the effect he had on the public as my grandmother gave me his book when I was a young lad and I enjoyed reading it.As a podcaster, I record each episode in one take so apologies fr any background noise such as chickens or dogs or my coughing.

Today, on Inside the Minds Eye, a conversation with Jennifer Ann Butler: writer, doodler, creative, and spiritual savant. Butler has spent most of her life struggling with depression. Last October, she began the arduous process of weaning herself off of anti-depressants. After her medications had been discontinued completely, she began to experience emotions that had left her, for lack of a better word, confused. Intense feelings of happiness, sadness, and all-around existential angst. Jen re-formatted her life to allow for holistic means it self-care. Excercises, healthy eating, and a regiment of transparent honesty in the face of complex emotional states. Mindfulness. She began to redirect her thoughts towards positive affirmations while maintaining honest and open communication. She used her writing, and her voice, to share these feelings with a network of people experiencing similar afflictions of the mind. During this journey, she managed to funnel her energy into a book titled, "Imperfect" (How I Utilized the Energy of Depression to Write a Book). The book is finished and is currently being crowd funded for self-publication. Here is the link if you wanna throw some love towards realizing a life-long dream: http://www.gofundme.com/imperfectbook If you donate 25 dollars towards publication, Jen will sign a fresh copy of the book and send it directly to you.
