    In this episode, Colin Church discusses the carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) with Anushka Devaser and Gyles Scott-Hayward from WSP. They explain that CBAM is a way to put a fair price on carbon emitted during the production of carbon-intensive goods, with the aim of encouraging cleaner industrial production in non-EU exporting countries and preventing carbon leakage. The EU CBAM covers goods such as steel, aluminium, electricity, iron, cement, fertilizers, and hydrogen. The UK is planning to introduce its own CBAM from 2027 and a consultation is currently running.     Tannaz is an Associate Professor in Energy and Environmental engineering at Teesside University in the UK. She holds the Chartered Engineer status and is a professional member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (CEng MIMMM). She is a fellow of Advance HE (FHEA). Tannaz's research is mainly focused on use of advanced and sustainable material for groundwater clean-up and water treatment. She stduies biochar and pyrolysis, nanotechnology, and non-destructive testing. In 2021, Tannaz was selected as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering by the Women's Engineering Society in the UK. Prior to starting her academic career, Tannaz did a PhD in Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh, a MSc in Geosciences Engineering in IFP School in Paris, and a BSc in Engineering in Iran. Kovaelva studies a PhD in combustor designs and materials for green ammonia and hydrogen fuels. Before starting her PhD, Marina completed her bachelor's in mechanical engineering, conducting her Year in Industry in quality and process improvement of nickel-superalloys at Special Metals - Wiggin. Marina has also participated in research placements in Japan and America as part of the MEXT and Fulbright Scholarship programmes. She is an active participant of IOM3 activities and is currently the SEC committee member for the Newport and Cardiff Materials Society.
